Hubby & I walked in really not knowing anything about Polish food but by the time we left we felt like we had visited our Polish friends The place is an OG deli with a few tables on the side and the smell of a home kitchen. The service was wonderful and welcoming. First the Polish lady behind the counter explained all the hot Polish food prepared in the hot counter, took our order, and cleaned a table for us to sit and eat. The young man that charged our order was the sweetest and served everyone with a smile. I wanted to taste Pierogis as I always heard about them so I ordered a variety of them with sour cream. They reminded me of steamed Chinese Dumplings but with different fillings...beef, cheese, mushroom & sauerkraut, cheese & potato. My favorite was the potato & cheese. I finally feel that I've been here enough to be confident in giving 5 stars. 5 stars isn't something you just throw around, but the food here is excellent. The chicken cutlet is always popular during the lunch crowd, but they have a stuffed pork that is to die for, and their platters really show that they put care into every dish they make. I've even tried the jersey classic Taylor Ham, Egg & Cheese breakfast sandwich from them, and in some indescribable way, that even feels like it has a Polish take on it! They even have a little section of hard-to-find Polish sweets for you to grab for after your meal. If you choose to sit and eat, they have a few booths, and a record player with a ton of old vinyl you can throw on, which adds even more to the down-home feel. So much fun. Next up I'm going to get some kielbasa and pierogi to go, and cook it up at home. This place is absolutely worth going out of your way for! read more

This place just screams "mom & pop". I called around 2:30, and they said they closed at 3, but I could pick up my order at 3:30 or 4 if needed. Find me a chain that will let you in after closing. They cook everything in back, and when they were checking on ingredients, I heard some Polish back and forth. Love it. The good: Beef goulash has excellent flavor. Potatoes were crispy, a very nice complement. Ample portion, plenty of delicious sauce. The roulade came in a wonderful, slightly spicy sauce. The potato pancake is divine. I'm glad I ordered two dishes so that I could have potatoes two ways and realize how great both ways are. I tried a blueberry dessert cake and it was also very nice. Prices are very reasonable - I had a very full meal for $10 less than most other Boonton restaurants. The not so good: The roulade was a little weird - they said there was bacon inside, but I didn't see or taste it. It wasn't bad, but it was... interesting. A weak 4 stars, maybe. Certainly not complaining. I tried to pick out some pierogis to take home and I only saw a couple of giant bags of them in a freezer. It wasn't clear if I could take one or not, but I didn't see any smaller portions and they were cleaning up at 3:30, so I didn't want to bother them. Shame on me for being so late. When I walked in, the old Victrola was playing a vinyl album of the Beatles from 1965, so I immediately fell in love with that. Went there for lunch and the food was steaming hot, just the way I like! This time I had the chicken cutlet, which was huge, tender, juicy in the inside and crispy on the outside. I also had 3 different perogies and the fried potatoes. I asked her to put some mushroom gravy on the cutlet and it was delicious. For dessert, I shared a homemade donut with the husband. Been driving by for years; an errand in Boonton allowed me to stop and pick up some lunch to-go. Ample parking outside...walked in and it's like a cozy little corner place. Signs boast of homemade Polish food, so that's what I thought of. Very nice lady at the counter literally showed me all the specials in the display counter. I'm pretty simple so I stuck with a chicken cutlet and some pierogis...but the pork cutlet stuffed w/ Ham & cheese looked really good. They offered 3 different kind of pierogis, I stuck with the potato & cheese. Since my wife's family is Polish/Slovak I've had a lot of pirogies in my time. These were homemade and awesome. I was also surprised at large portion of chicken cutlet I got when I made it to my destination. A lot of food. Bonus in the Roadhouse is the turntable that plays LPs (vinyl!)...along with the stack of records. I'll have to take a look when I'm not in a rush. Was looking for a place to meet my nephew on his way to NY... it was an easy on/off of rt 287 and the reviews were good so we figured we would try it. I had a cheese blintz with cherry sauce and sour cream that was just as good as I remember my grandmother making. Light and perfectly cooked! I bought a lot of things to send with my nephew. Chicken cutlet sandwich which he loved, a crispy yummy potato pancake, stuffed cabbage and two kinds of pierogis. My dad loved it all and he was born in Poland and is a very picky eater. My family is Polish. I forced them to find this shop with me, and we got some pierogi and latke to take out; my parents, right off the boat, praised the beef pierogi as BETTER than Mummi's; I don't know if that's an insult or an amazing achievement, but we were blown away. All Polish delis are weird and quirky; let me get that out of the way. So the turntable and vinyl collection, the organ, the odd framed photos for sale- all par for the course. There are tables for dining in, a small grocery selection, and a family running the place that is adorable. My Dad couldn't wait to go back the next day and try everything else. If you love quirky places with good food at cheap prices you'll fall in love with the Road House Deli on Myrtle Avenue in Boonton! Talk about a hole in the wall place! There is wonderful Polish food made fresh, just like in Mama's kitchen if she was a good and interested cook. There's a table full of individually wrapped Polish pastries and they sell coffee, tea and food to go. Along the side wall are four tiny vintage booths so you can eat here in comfort. Today was my first time and the potato pancakes were large and tasty, the pirogies were excellent and the owner put extra onions on top just like in Poland. We also had the meatballs with rice stuffing and gravy and real Kielbasa. Warren, a frequent lunch customer (Several times a week) was so enthusiastic. He eats one lunch in the Road House Deli and takes home a second for his dinner. Warren said to try the creamy horseradish dressing on the potato pancakes. He also says he comes every Tueaday for the special spinach casserole which says is excellent. I'm recommending the Road House Deli for good home style cooking, low prices and talk about local color. There is a must be at least 60 year old phonograph and hundreds of LP albums. You choose what you want to hear, put the record on the phonograph and get the music you want without having to pay a jukebox fee. Now how cool is that? read more

This was definitely an excellent decision to stop at this spot! The minute we walked in - we were greeted by the sweet staff who helped us select our amazing lunches. We were able to get lunch AND dinner (since it also take out) for two along with some desserts for around $30! I'm pretty sure she cooks the meat for the goulash alllll dayyyy because it is incredibly tender. And the pierogies? I had to force myself to stop eating them. Yikes! Polish Perfection - Authentic - like we were in Old Town Krakow once we stepped through the door. We immediately noticed the care the proprietor & family/staff took with the food preparation. They also exhibited a high level of pride and enthusiasm when describing the available food items - perogy, gulash, kielbasa, cabbage stew..... We tried to sample all items - so good!!!! I am in love with this little Polish deli that is a breeze to swing by and quickly park in front of as you travel down Rte. 202, located right in the parking lot by Boonton Lanes. The homemade Polish recipes seem to be family favorites and the signature soups are outstanding. Subtle hints of dill accompany a rich Tomato soup (that my girls and I die for), the cabbage-and-kielbasa soup is light and satisfying, while the chicken noodle soup is the best of its kind. The chef is a kind Polish woman who runs her own shop along with her three cool kids..they seem to be filmmakers, photographers, musicians, and one is a pilot...a real Renaissance family. Can you tell I go there a lot and talk a bit too much? Hidden among the Polish groceries, Deli "to-go" foods, bakery treats, and threadbare decor is the true Time Capsule of hipster cred: an old vinyl record player. I turned my girls onto the Beatles there, and their music collection is quite eclectic and nostalgic (The Kinks, The Clash, The Bee Gees? Mom and kids have differing musical tastes...) Granted I haven't eaten a whole lot of pierogies from many places, but when I tried a plate of them from Road House Deli, I was blown away. Not only were they delicious, but they had the perfect texture and every bite was pure ecstasy. I ordered some of every kind they had, since I usually just get potato and cheese everywhere else. So in addition to that, I tried the beef (excellent), sauerkraut and mushroom (something new and different for me, but just as good), and even blueberry (never even knew there was such a thing, but it was fantastic). So this was the perfect sampler for any pierogi lover. I was in heaven. The service was also top notch, and the staff is always friendly and willing to make any sort of thing - in any combination - you might have an appetite for. Feel free to mix and match and customize your meals. Great! Anyway, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Another thing of note, the place has some very interesting decor. Vintage record player and old albums can be seen next to the booths, and classic photographs line the walls. Feels just like home! Well not my home, but anyway ... First off, the people who work at the Road House Deli in Booton, NJ are extremely nice. When you walk in, they say "Hello." When you ask a question about the food, they give you honest and straightforward answers. It helps when you are ordering food that is not "the norm" for a deli. Which, of course, brings me to the food. The Road House has your normal deli fare (sandwiches and such), but also is known (at least by me!) for it's delicious Polish food. I've had breakfast sandwiches there made with egg, cheese and smoked sausage. OMG! It was SO Good! I consider myself an "Egg and Cheese on a Roll Aficionado," and when I tell you this was unique and tasty, it is an understatement. Eggs cooked just right, and a girlled, smoked sausage perched on top it's cheesy self. Also, it was big enough to share, even though I could have scarffed the whole thing myself!! I've also sampled their stuffed cabbage, which is stellar, and their potato pancakes, which are crispy and tasty. They have keilbasa, mac-n-cheese, various pierogis, as well as other tasty dishes.
