When I realized there was a Little Ukraine village in NYC, I had to drag my boyfriend along for some pierogi! Although we obviously ended up coming to a Polish place rather than Ukrainian, I loved getting to show him some of the food I grew up eating sometimes as someone who is part Ukrainian. It was pretty slow as we got here late on a Saturday night and it seemed to be mostly locals, which we both love. It gave Polish diner vibes and had a great menu! This food is hearty in all the right ways!! Best eaten on a cold snowy or rainy night when you can find reprieve within. Sitting in this restaurant made me feel like I was sitting within the Nighthawk painting. Outside it was cold and blue, but inside it was warm and golden. I had Pierogis, pan fried (1/2 order of potato, 1/2 order of special) and a stuffed cabbage with mushroom gravy. All washed down with the like Polish Pilsner, Zywiec (a nice accompaniment to balance the heavy food). I came home from visiting Poland and wanted a taste of my travels at home. Since I didn't want a big plate of food I had a cup of borscht (which was not like any of the soup I had in Poland but still enjoyable, although I wasn't a fan of the big red beans in it). The bread on the side was ordinary sliced sandwich bread and nothing special, I'd have preferred a small slice of challah with it (which they offer for an additional charge). Mushroom sauce served beside a 1/2 order of dumplings satisfied my craving. My friend has a bowl of matzo ball soup and was delighted! As I was leaving I saw some eating a plate with little dumplings, sauerkraut some other food with mushroom sauce which is what I must try next time...and there will be a next time. Never had Polish food before and this seems to be the spot to try authentic dishes as approved by an actual Polish person. We started off with the combination platter which had their well known dishes such as pierogis, stuffed cabbage, kielbasy and bigos. Next was breaded pork chop which not too oily at all, potato pancakes and last was cheese blintzes. Everything was very homely and of course had cabbage in most of the dishes. I definitely enjoyed most of it and would go back to try other dishes. As for the service, even though they were not that busy we kinda had to chase down our waitress to order food and get the check. Did not really enjoy this experience at all. The guy who took care of us didn't seem that friendly or sanitary. He literally sneezed in his hands and continued taking our order, which felt kind of gross. He wasn't very aware of allergies and gave us something that contained what I couldn't eat. The food was poorly presented and didn't taste anything special. Also we asked if their piergois were deep fried or pan fried and told pan fried but when they came out, they were very much deep fried. I will not be coming back next time I'm in New York. read more

I love me a local owned NYC restaurant that has been preparing home cooked meals for decades in a very consistent way. Polish perogies, white borscht and blintzes are a staple here. The white borscht was tasty and reminded me of a chowder minus the clams because of the thinkness and smokiness from the kielbasa. And a half sliced hard boiled egg in the bottle of the cup. The perogies were tasty with their generous cheese, potato and spinach fillings and the potato pancakes were on point. I could taste the shredded onion too. It was a lovely evening as my husband and I sat down for an outdoor meal -- I ordered the kompot which was delicious! He had the red borscht, garlic bread, and pierogi. I had the stuff cabbage which came with a huge portion of sauerkraut and potato salad. I also had the tomato sauce as a topping for the stuffed cabbage but it wasn't necessary as the cabbage was so flavorful on its own. Little Poland is an absolute gem in the East Village. When you enter, it's like you're being welcomed in to somebody's home. It's frequently busy, so there might be a small wait to get a table, but believe me, it's worth it! Frequent business is just a testament to how good a restaurant is, in my opinion. The last two times I've been here, I've gotten the mushroom barley soup, which is the ultimate Eastern European comfort food. It's the perfect thing to eat on a cold day. Each soup is served with bread, and I'd absolutely recommend getting their challah on the side. Two thick-cut, soft, doughy slices of challah are the perfect compliment to their already amazing soup. Their pierogis are also absolutely to die for! With a little bit of sour cream on top- YUM! They have several different variations of pierogis too, so there's something for everyone. I've also had their kompot, which is like Polish fruit punch, sans all the artificial colors and flavors. It was the perfect mix of fruit flavors, and has actual chunks of fruit inside. I'd also highly recommend their homemade apple cake- they give you a huge portion, so I would recommend sharing it if you order it. As I mentioned before, since they do get busy, I'd recommend going at an off-hour. Last time I went, they were mildly short-staffed, but thankfully my party and I weren't in a rush. Not too long of a line to wait on a Saturday night, unlike passing by neighboring Ukrainian restaurants. We got Hungarian style potato pancake, which is such crispy goodness over savory beef goulash. Cute little diner serving Polish food. Came on one of those cold NY winter nights and I HAD to get the soul. Got the red borscht and mushroom barley. Red vkrs hot definitely had more of a punch in terms of flavor but the mushroom barley was very comforting. Soup was a little on the lukewarm side, my preference would've been hotter but regardless they were good. Also got the combination platter which came with pierogis that you can choose fried or boiled and a single flavor or a combo of flavors. Combination platter allows you to taste a little of everything and the portions were huge. Server was nice did not feel rushed and people were even doing work with their laptops. Awesome little joint in the east village. Swung by to catch up with a friend and enjoyed the meal greatly. She got apple pumpkin pancakes (a seasonal item) she thoroughly enjoyed, while I got a kielbasy sandwich with fries. Enjoy Little Poland, one of the few remaining old school bastions of classic Eastern European food in the East Village. They offer a range of delicious dishes. A favorite of mine I typically get there, something rare if not unavailable in other restaurants in Manhattan, is their fantastic White Borscht, a traditional rye-based soup, not to be confused with red borscht that's made with beets, green borscht made with sorrels, or cabbage borscht. Little Poland's White Borscht comes freshly made, with thin slice bits of Kielbasy (sausage) and sliced hard-boiled eggs, and accompanied by bread and butter. (I usually choose pumpernickel.) I find this soup's smoky flavor makes a really satisfying dish. In the past, I've also gone for Little Poland's stuffed cabbage, but again their White Borscht is my go-to. read more

Fried kielbasa was just crispy fried enough with snap to the skin...even better with polish mustard. Meatloaf with mashed potatoes..meatloaf had a kielbasa flavor to it and with the mashed potatoes covered in mushroom gravy it was super delicious. Schnitzel with saurcraut topped with a Sunnyside up egg was kicked up a notch with the polish mustard mixed with couple of sprinkles of black pepper and Tabasco. The beets were delicious as well. Cucumber salad had just enough dill to bring out flavor in the cucumbers Mushroom gravy was so good and had the right seasoning and texture. The service was good and attentive. Employees are awful. Dont go to this restaurant unless tou wwnt to be treated like trash. This used to be a welcoming place. New staff are horrible. I was told if im alone i could only dit st the counter. My sister showed up and we were plsved by the front door freezing. We wanted to switch to another booth snd were told we cant!! The so called manager Natasha is part of the problem creating a hostile unwelcoming environment. Portions have shrunk while prices rise. Not worth the stress. No one wants to eat at a place where the staff is so unhappy and rude to thier guests. read more

I came here for lunch after church around 1:30 with 3 others. Upon looking at the menu today, I knew an entree would be too much. One of my table mates and I split a mixed 8pc pierogi. I also ordered a cup of their lentil soup. In hindsight, while very good, I didn't need to order because another dining campaign shared his cheese blintz and gave me half of his potato pancake. The potato pancake was crispy. The perogies (cheese, spinach, potato) were all flavorful. On our recent Thanksgiving trip to NY my husband came down with a bad cold. We were stuck in our hotel room craving some warm comfort food. This is going to sound weird but we were dying for some Cream of Wheat (a.k.a. Farina). I searched online and found Little Poland. OMG, it was so delicious! I don't know what they do to it to make it so good -- probably made on the stove the old fashioned way with whole milk. It was so creamy, rich and yummy. We ordered 3 servings because we weren't sure if they would be small or large. Each container turned out to be quite generous so we saved the 3rd one for the next day. We also shared an order of cheese blintzes. They were also super delicious. They came with applesauce and sour cream. If I lived in NY I would eat at this restaurant all the time. I wish we had more time on this trip to try some of the other menu items. They have a lot of interesting looking options. We will definitely be back multiple times on a future visit. read more
