I know everybody loves a good redemption story and so this time I've got one for you. If you've seen my last PR review, you know it wasn't too favorable. However to be fair, I think it was an understandable decision on PR's part to pre-cook a bunch of pizzas to quickly serve a large lunch crowd. Again, it was understandable, but maybe not the best decision. This time PR was back, and because it wasn't a free pizza party, they were serving up several of their pastas, which I had heard were better than their pizza. Well, my coworker was right...the pasta was much better than the pizza. I went with the truffle mac and cheese that came with a small piece of bread and a soda for $5. Keep in mind, that $5 deal was simply because my employer subsidized the rest of the cost. The pasta was cooked nice and al dente and the ground mushroom sauce was creamy and delicious. I appreciated that they served it with some additional S&P, and I liked the added parmesan on the dish as well. Unfortunately though, the "truffle" was only from added truffle oil that was really lacking in this dish. The mac was tasty but it was really missing that truffle flavor. Although the pre-cooked pizza was a big miss for me, the mac and cheese helped PR redeem themselves. Thanks PR! Overall 3.5 stars! read more

This food truck came to my work a couple weeks ago and honestly I wasn't a fan. I ordered a marinara pasta vegan style with a salad and it was meh. The salad wasn't anything special. The pasta ended up being overcooked which sucked. No one likes over cooked pasta. Also the sauce didn't exactly coat the pasta. It basically was pasta swimming in sauce but when you picked up a piece of pasta there was no sauce on it. The only thing going for this place is that it comes right outside the graduate housing at UCSD. Were it not for its convenience, I think I would give this place a 1/5. I was curious about the food since it is parked right outside where I live, and ended up getting their "popular" lobster mac and cheese. They have a 50 cent card charge which made my purchase $14 in total. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. First of all, the food just looks unappealing. It looks like dorm food that I had thought I escaped from as an undergraduate, and the bread is so laughably small that I can't believe I paid so much for. In terms of taste, the pasta itself is mediocre and the sauce made me kind of itchy afterwards, which makes me doubt the quality of their ingredients. The service was nice, so no complaints there, but the only way I would get this place again was if it was free. Realistically, I would rate this as a $3 dish, but man, it is really not that good. The convenience is the only thing going for this food truck. If you are too lazy to cook and you are okay with overpaying for mediocre food, then go here. read more

Tried this place out during Food Truck Fridays in Balboa Park. I got the lobster mac and cheese and honestly I was not impressed. There seemed to be barely any lobster and the "cheese" sauce reminded me of an alfredo-esque sauce, which is fine because I like alfredo, but I was expecting Lobster Mac and Cheese which was not really present in the dish I got. Italian food truck. The long red truck has been coming to my workplace for a while now but I decided to give it try today. Pomodoro Rosso offers a range of options like Paninis, salads, and pizza. I noticed their special of the day was an Italian sausage sandwich. The sausage was imported from Chicago. It was pretty good, but it would have been nice to have a small side of something like chips or an Italian pepper mix. In any case, it was tasty. I'm happy they included the one cherry pepper because the sausage needed something extra like mustard or that pepper. - They might need to think about getting their menu on a sandwich board or something. The quote that was presented to us was the amount we ended up paying, no hidden fees or surprises. Matteo was professional, punctual & friendly with our residents, and followed necessary safety measures during COVID. They offered a variety of pasta options and came with bread & a side salad. So we started doing this food truck thing at work. And I, being a yelpaholic, immediately circled the ones worth trying. This was the only one that had a definite "YES" written next to it. I totally understand the other good reviews. And the only reason I took off a star? The used rigatoni in the lobster mac n cheese and I prefer other shapes (YES- YES- I KNOW- PASTA SNOB- but with lobster, break out the cavatappi). But- IT'S FREAKING GOOD. Best lobster mac n cheese I've had in San Diego. It's got well cooked (not dried out) lobster chunks, and no killing everything with truffle oil or tomatoes or weird fancy flavors. Just good lobster mac n cheese. The garlic bread was actually great too. Nice and cheesy and full of garlic the way it should be. If I saw this food truck in my hood- and needed food, I'd stop again. I've been wanting to try this food truck since it comes to my apartment complex almost every month. The food is not bad, but not amazing. This truck made a debut at my work. Went down with coworkers. I got the lobster Mac and cheese. What I got was more of an Alfredo pasta with parmesan cheese and missing the main ingredient. There was no lobster on the lobster Mac. For 14 dollars I would have expected some lobster, with that being said it did have good flavor for an Alfredo pasta, however. Just on that fact that a lobster Mac had no lobster I wanted to give 1 Star. What did surprise me was the pizza sizes for a personal pie at 10 dollars you are definitely getting a bargain. I had this place at Alesmith brewing, and loved it. I ordered the chicken parmigiana sandwich and it was extremely good. What sets this truck apart from others is their menu variety and they bake their own fresh bread. Their prices range from $8-$14. But you get a lot of food. This truck was parked at the Bates Food truck Festival this Saturday. I ordered the Vodka Cream pasta. It was so delicious! It had a fresh tasting sauce w/ nice and soft rigatoni noodles. I had the privilege of trying this tasty cuisine at the Curbside Bites event hosted in Civita park. Mind you, it wasn't my first choice. I was halfway through a disappointing Philly cheesestake sandwich - from one of the trucks that will remain nameless - and I couldn't stop thinking about how much I wanted some tasty pasta. I admit, I was totally sceptical about going with the authentic italian first but after the sandwich was a total crash and burn I had to listen to my heart. I crossed my fingers and ordered the Truffle Mac n Cheese. I was in creamy pasta heaven. It was everything I dreamed of and more. I was looking for something to make my tastebuds come back to life. This was the dish. After every bite I just wanted to take another and another. It had lots of sauce but it did not over power the pasta. I definitely could have finished the whole plate in one sitting but, with some difficulty, I packed away the rest to enjoy for lunch later (I work at night). It was delicious and I would fill up on pasta any day from Pomodoro Rosso. Food truck cane out today in front of my job. I actually preordered since I only have a 30 minute lunch break. I ordered the vodka sauce pastas ($11) with added meatballs ($3) for added meat and you only get two medium size.. :/ the vodka sauce was good and the pasta was cooked good. The meatballs lacked in any taste, I did dip in the pasta sauce to get a better taste. The garnish looked old but I'm not eating it so I just took it off. It was a pretty good size, I was really full and had plenty left over. Didn't eat the bread but overall it was good. It was $14 for my plate. This food truck came to our complex and I was looking forward to not having to cook. I should have cooked. Lol. $22 for THE smallest portions. I ordered the Caesar salad and the lobster mac and cheese. The salad had some sort of caesar dressing AND olive oil on top. Gross. It also came with chicken on it (it didnt state that on the menu) and my husband said it tasted weird so he picked it off. I had the lobster mac and cheese. Please call it what it is which is penne noodles with runny alfredo sauce and cheese. There was not ONE bit of lobster in there and for $14 that's ridiculous. The food on this truck is bomb! I had the chicken parmigiana sandwich, tiramisu, and the chocolate roll and I was in heaven! The sandwich is a very generous size, and comes with a refreshing side salad. The chicken was moist and it was saucy and cheesy...my mouth is watering just remembering it yum. The tiramisu is as good as what I tried in Rome, and the chocolate roll is basically a Nutella cookie.....you seriously can't go wrong with dessert there! Out of curiosity, we tried this food truck on a night I was hankering for a lot of carbs. The food selection appeared to be limited and pricey. We tried the lobster mac, which was good. It had generous portions of lobster and was not too saucy. We also tried the pepperoni pizza as our safe option. This turnes out to be a big mistake. The "pepperoni" on the pizza was gray and cut lengthwise (what?!). The tomato sauce and cheese was bare. The pizza tasted worse than a frozen pizza. For the price, it was a big disappointment.
