A 3.5 would be a more accurate rating for the food but I'm rounding up. I got the california burrito with carne asada. Right off the bat, I found the tortilla to be too thick which masked all the flavors of the filling. Once you get past the first few bites it gets better though. The meat was nicely seasoned which I liked but not as tender as I hoped. I also think putting actual fries inside the burrito as advertised instead of chunks of potato would have elevated the burrito. It was an overall decent burrito but I have definitely had better. The salsas were also a bit watery but definitely made it better; I liked the green one more. Tried the horchata here as well and it was nice and cinnamon-y but not overpowering. The food wasn't too expensive considering its location! The lady who took our order was really sweet. Our orders came out within 5-10 minutes. The location is obviously a plus as it's a super quick walk to Mission Beach. Makes this a great spot for grab and go food for the beach. Delicious burritos walking distance from the beach! We ordered the oxacana burrito and california burrito. The main difference is that the oxacana burrito has a quesadilla layer with oxacana cheese. I had a very good breakfast burrito from this small La Perlita Mexican Eatery in the heart of Mission Beach, San Diego. The burrito consisted of scrambled eggs, ham, cheese, and house potatoes wrapped in a flour tortilla. Although not that very large, the was very good in flavor, and came with a good amount of ham and well scrambled eggs. The potatoes were good and the cheese well melted into the burrito. The flour tortillas was of good quality, and the red hot sauce I had with the burrito was good. The young lady at the counter was friendly. Wasn't great. Super burrito was very average for 20$. Had to get halfway through my burrito to get to the meat they skimped out on and only to find out they gave me the wrong meat. Very disappointing. Not a one because the lady was sweet. Other than that I wouldn't go to this place when you have so many better options next door. Go go go! One of the best hole-in-the-walls in San Diego. The sister restaurant to the popular La Perla establishments, La Pertila is much more informal. There is a small dining area but the idea is quick grab & go meals. A shame it took me so many trips to SD to finally try, especially when our place is literally 100 steps away. But ya girl did it. And she's one happy mf. Hubby and I rarely get our own meals because we have small tummies and frugal, but everything in the menu sounded SO GOOD we failed to reach a consensus and got our own plates. I chose the #2 Combination Dinner: Chile Relleno & Enchilada served with Mexican Rice and Beans ($12.99) and a Pineapple Jarrito ($2.50) to wash it all down. Wow. This definitely could have fed both of us twice over. The poblano pepper was so good, so much ooey-gooey cheese and tasteful tomato sauce snuggled right by the chicken enchilada so you can take a bite of both items at the same time for an explosion of flavor and happiness. Phew, that was a lot to say. I loved how the enchilada was made with a corn tortilla vs flour. La Perlita you're doing it right. Husband ordered a Carnita Quesadilla (flour tortilla, cheese, slow-cooked pork and sauce, $9.50) and holy cannoli was this bad boy huge. Three ginormous pieces, juicy, flavorful meat blended with cheese cheese cheese! I loved it! And so did he. Much appreciation for the extra sauces provided because we're hot sauce junkies who need a kick with nearly every meal. Service was excellent! The woman who took our order (I presume owner) was adorably sweet and informative, as well as patient while I argued with my husband what to order. Wow. I don't know if it's only in my head or what, but Mexican food is just so much better in San Diego; and this place is no exception. It's a small space that can accommodate maybe 10 people inside, so more of a grab and go situation. The menu is fairly standard aside from the Oaxacalifornia burrito. I've never seen this before and I am so happy I tried it. It's a carne asada California burrito with guac and pico de gallo. Ok YUM!!! We stayed at mission beach for a week and came back to this place twice - two days in a row! Quality Mexican food while also easy on the wallet! I recommend everything we tried. First day- my S/O and I shared two tacos (pastor and carnitas) and a chicken California burrito and my brother got the carne asada burrito. Second day - I got a bean and cheese burrito and my S/O and brother both got the carne asada. All of it was delicious! I can't speak for the rest of the menu but based off of what we got I don't think you could go wrong with any order. But the real star of the show was the sauce.
