We have gone to Pompano Grill a few times and we've had mixed experiences. But after our dinner at Pompano Grill last week went from bad to worse, we recommend against eating there. They are inattentive, rude, borderline fraudulent, and they attempt to be intimidating. As we sat down, our server launched into a long pitch about how the chef will not cook a steak more than medium, and how he - would - cook it blue if that was what we wanted. This was a lengthy sales pitch. I specifically asked if the chef was willing to serve a steak that was cool and red (my definition of blue), and our server confirmed this. So based on that, I ordered steak. Unfortunately, when the steak arrived, not only was it overcooked, but it was poorly cooked in that it had a ring of about half an inch of totally brown meat, then another quarter inch of light pink, and then starkly transitioned to bright red. This is what happens when you put an ice cold steak into a hot pan. The steak was definitely not blue, and more like medium rare or medium, given how much brown and pink it had. I asked our server if this is what the restaurant calls blue, more for future reference - since it was late in the evening and I didn't feel like wasting food, I wasn't going to send it back and ask the kitchen to remake it. The server went back and had a lengthy conversation with someone in the kitchen, and then the manager came out and at first said that I should have ordered it blue. When I said that I had asked for blue, he said, "Okay well that's how we do our blue steaks." I was a bit annoyed by the dishonest sales pitch that our server had made before we ordered, so I might have visibly rolled my eyes. But I wanted to just make the best of it and eat in peace. Unfortunately, the chef had other ideas. He came up to our table, stood in what he probably intended to be an intimidating pose, and asked - very aggressively - "Is there a problem with the steak?" I said it was cooked rather more than my preference, which was disappointing given the lengthy sales pitch about how this restaurant supposedly did not overcook steaks. The chef launched into a lecture about how "rare is a temperature" and "the health department has rules" and "you can't get a steak blue while still getting it to the minimum temperature unless you sous vide it or reverse sear, and that takes too much effort." So basically, the chef admitted that this restaurant, which boasts "a passion for craftsmanship and creativity" and supposedly serves Mishima Reserve American Wagyu, puts less effort into a steak than I do when I cook one at home. Clearly, the chef's intention was to intimidate and humiliate, as well as pull the power move of "I will serve you poorly cooked steak and how dare you not like it." It was about this time our waiter (who had been insisting this whole time that "We would consider that [brown steak with a thin red stripe in the center] rare"), came over to ask if we wanted to order more wine (which we had been considering). After this treatment, though, my husband told him politely that we would not be ordering any more. A woman who had been sitting with the chef, who we took to be the owner or manager, uttered an audible "Wow," as if it were somehow unusual after a breakdown of relations such as this not to order more. My husband said "'Wow,' what?" in a mild tone? She gave no response. Kitchen mishaps happen, and sometimes steak ends up overcooked. That's not the end of the world. It's better if a restaurant fixes it, but if they're not going to fix it, they should at least accept that a customer might be dissatisfied, rather than lecture and berate a customer for having the temerity to have an adverse opinion. In the end, nothing was done either to satisfy us, nor to compensate us for the poor meal (which was quite expensive when tallied up), nor to assure us this would not happen again. I would advise avoiding this restaurant. read more

I was in the mood for pasta and got the spaghetti carbonara which was very good, but I tried my friend's steak and it was excellent. I believe it was a domestic wagyu. Great wedge salad, and they have brussel sprouts - huge portion and so tasty. The prices seemed very reasonable for a high end restaurant. The service was incredible. This place couldn't have much more than 12 tables, so you'll need a reservation. read more

First of all, do not listen to any negative reviews. You'll thank me later. One of the best meals we've ever had, and my husband is a wanna-be food critic (love you honey!) Between the 4 of us, we had escargo, seared ahi, surf and turf, shrimp with confetti rice and chimichurri, fresh made pasta and meatballs and the Triple Tail chef's special, as well as the Gelato Espresso dessert. One of my favorite meals in the Cocoa Beach area. This location in a strip mall is cozy and intimate, with only a dozen or so tables. I chose the chef's creation of the grouper. It came with coconut rice, mango salsa and a curry sauce. It was excellent. Great textures, colors, and taste. Husband had the regular menu grouper where he could choose sides. He loved it. We decided to get the chocolate dessert which was three layers of chocolate with a nice crispy hazelnut layer. It was so good. Service was excellent. Our group travels a lot for business and leisure, and would easily put this restaurant's food up against any other restaurant we've visited. You will need reservations as this is a small place with limited tables (to the "one-star" complainer), but that just allows them to focus on their patrons. read more

The wife and I and one of her friends r tried the pompano grill for supper the other night. It's tiny little place with a strange but alluring vibe. Seats about 40. Has a very small menu so I assume what they do they do well. Prices were a little high but not crazy. Service was attentive, I orders the triple tail and the wife ordered short ribs, and her friend ordered lobster ravioli with scallops. All three of our entrees were delicious and cooked perfectly, and the sides were fresh, but the sauces they used were not so good, they were bland and didn't really add to the dishes, I'm guessing they want the ingredients to shine and not the sauces, but just too bland for my taste. A hidden gem! A small intimate setting provided delicious meals from the wine down to the dessert, not one thing was disappointing. You could tell this place is run by a true chef that cares about what they are serving. The service was exceptional felt 5star worthy. We had dinner here at Pompano Grill for the first time, even though we've lived here full-time for five years. We were not disappointed; every bite was absolutely delicious. Service was very good, and the table next to us was very effusive in their praise. They commented that they come here frequently. A couple of notes: it was very expensive. We definitely should have asked what the market price was for a few things, particularly the filet. I know some people subscribe to the idea that if you have to ask what it cost, you can't afford it. We can afford it, but we would've liked to have known what we were paying. Shame on us. We would definitely come here again, but I think we'd be more thoughtful about how we ordered. My husband asked for melted butter for his fish, we ordered bread as an appetizer, and I ordered "R1" sauce for my steak. The steak was so delicious and perfectly prepared. There was no reason to order sauce with an extra charge. The bread was good, but no better than bread you normally would get for free before most restaurants meals. And melted butter is just melted butter. It seemed odd to me that we received a charge for that. We ordered carrot cake for dessert but to go, because quite honestly we were absolutely stuffed. Because the carrot cake wasn't on the menu we didn't know what that cost was and that was another unpleasant surprise. It was very good carrot cake, but it was very expensive carrot cake, and I don't think it was any more special than a lot of places. I hate being that person with a mixed review but it was a somewhat mixed experience. That said, we'll be back and enjoy our 5 star meal with fewer surprises. read more

Everything started great our server informed us of the specials after dropping menu and after reviewing menu we decided to order a special that was similar to something on menu ($35). We got two apps and two specials, server tried to upsell us adding a salad (respect the hustle) we declined. As the bill came around we expected around $220-$250, our specials came out to $125 each with no information from the server, our $250 turned into a $400 dinner. It fell scammy and wrong. I'm unable to eat cream sauces, so my choices were a bit limited. Nice wine & beer list. No ciders or hard liquor. Very clean, nice food presentation. Portions on the "special" were diminutive, but, we are not Huge meat eaters so a 4oz filet was fine, I do think that 4 pieces of asparagus would have been a more appropriate portion, but everything was cooked well and tasted very good. Our server, Austin was incredibly friendly and outgoing, patient and informative. From their current menu we enjoyed the immensely tender short ribs and mashers and the creamy shrimp pasta which hit all of the flavor notes. For our picky young daughter chef kindly prepared fresh pasta with butter, which she loved. Ambience was aesthetic - clean and modern with walls of plants and custom neon signs. While staying at a nearby resort for the next few days, my friend and I wanted to treat ourselves to a great local seafood dinner. After reading reviews of several area options (and laughing at some of them because of their ridiculous reasons for poor reviews), we landed on P/G simply because we needed to try the Lobster Deviled Eggs. I'm an avid Open Table user so was happy they use Open Table for reservations. I recommend making reservations because the restaurant is small; which is a positive point, not a negative point. Upon entry you are instantly greeted and welcomed by a smiling host/server. Our server was Justin and he was instantly likeable and engaging. (although if any negative points are brought up, we're supposed to say he was Steve, but I don't think they employ a Steve - ha!) The wine list is extensive and they do not serve liquor. So we settled on a glass of wine each. My friend wanted "Juice with a buzz in a glass" and Justin said, "I got you" and came back with a Moscato. I wasn't a fan, but she loved it. The reason for our choosing the restaurant - The Lobster Deviled Egg did not disappoint. Do not expect your mom's deviled eggs, this is classy and elevated - you will be surprised at its elegance. We chose the Filet Mignon and the Grouper with Macadamia Crust ; both were cooked to perfection. To end the evening we selected the Creme Brulee and the Key Lime Pie. Both spectacular in flavor and presentation. There was a large group present but our server was aware enough to know to put our orders in before theirs so as not to delay our meals. That was extremely considerate of him.. Overall, we had a great evening full of laughs, good food and excellent wine (except the Moscato :) ) ... just wasn't for me. I visit a friend who lives in town about 4 times a year so I get to try a lot of restaurants in cocoa beach! This place was excellent! The ambiance and decor are beautiful and so stylish. We had a few starters. The fried Brie was delicious! The nuts and berries with the jam were delicious. We also had the scallops, they were cooked perfectly! I had the fillet with cacio e pepe butter. It came with asparagus and potatoes. The steak was so well seasoned and had a beautiful crust. It was a smidge over cooked but it was so tender and juicy that I didn't mind! The butter was so good and added extra flavor to everything. My friend had the fish creation. She ordered it with the Parmesan crust with came with orzo, tomatoes, and pesto. This was one of the most delicious fish dishes I've ever had. The fish itself was so juicy and fell apart. All the sauces and elements together were amazing. I heard a lot about this place over on cocoa beach, it's a small little restaurant. It's super cute, you need reservations. The food was good but I was a little surprised by the amount they charge and I have no problem paying for quality. Sides are usually not included in the entree meals. We got the filet mignon (which was more well than medium well and was charred), fish burger, bread (yes you pay for the bread), and two Caesar salads. The Riesling I tried was delicious though. Had an awesome time celebrating a friends birthday here! It was my first time in Cocoa Beach and we came here put first night. I highly recommend this spot if you have a chance to go. We got the Cacio e Pepe butter and bread to start, it was delicious. We finished every last bite of it. We then all ordered many entrees! Their quality and taste of the food was outstanding. There was soo much flavor and everything was well seasoned. We sat outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. There isn't music playing, soo prepare for a quiet evening. However if your friends are as crazy as mine, your evening won't be soo quiet. There is ample parking. I do recommend making a reservation in advance if you have a large group of people. First the food--I had the Diamond scallops over pumpkin ravioli with pomegranate and walnuts in a Rosemary sage brown butter with a balsamic reduction. The flavors meshed so well together. It was one of the best seafood meals that I've had in Florida on both coasts. My friend had the grouper over an orzo tomato spinach plate and she loved it. Like kids play "house", it feels like a place playing "restaurant". Ambiance is tween girl's bedroom meets beach kitsch. Service somewhere between bored and abrupt. The person I'm guessing is owner/chef hung out in a room near the kitchen on her phone and made an appearance to drop off apps. Fine dining prices for this area ($300+ before tip for 4 entrees, an entree salad, 2 apps, 2 glasses of wine) though the only people who will mistake this place as fine dining don't do fine dining. Requested the fish not be overcooked but unfortunately they were all so dry most of us only managed to get through about half of them. Big pieces of fish and prawns though we didn't find out prices (MP on menu and not mentioned by server) til the bill came. Not for me but YMMV. read more

Update: I had rated this restaurant 5 stars before. We went yesterday to celebrate my wife's birthday and we were all very disappointed. To begin, the menu had significantly changed. 3 of my favorite items were not in the menu anymore (Fish burger and carbonara pasta and the Slater's Taters). The Caesar salad tasted different. My wife and I shared a special called Pompano over risotto (bland taste overall), and my daughter and son shared the filet mignon (sweet sauce). They added a sharing fee of $20. Well, as I wrote before, very disappointed. We spent over close to $300 (including the tip). The only good things that I can say about Pompano Grill after our experience would be the waiter, who was very friendly with my grandson and provided good service overall, cleanliness and the Millionaire Bacon. It's hard to see that changes made a place that sadly we won't visit again. read more

The garlic fries with lemon butter were good $8, but halfway they got overpowering and could not finish them. The risotto $55 was just ok, un-exciting.
