A couple pieces of bread left
Liz F.

We had a great family dinner at Pompilios last night. Our server was nice and patient with our kids. We started with risotto balls, which were delicious, fried perfection (in addition to the white bread with garlic butter, which our kids gobbled up!). Our boys had the side of meatballs, each ordering two but only getting through one because they were so big. I had the chicken parmigiana and it was excellent. It had a lot of mushrooms I wasn't expecting (I am sure it was on the menu but I didn't look). I love mushrooms so that was fine with me. My husband had chicken Alfredo and it was also excellent; the chicken was a little crispy but still moist and flavorful.

We had just finished a Newport Gangster walking tour and were a block away and it was time for Lunch. We entered by a side door, which is the main door, and the bartender greeted us as we came in. Friendly and directed us to the hostess station, oddly, further inside. Once seated, turns out the bartender would be the one waiting on us. She was great! Friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, took our drink order, then came back fairly quickly with our drinks. We were ready to order and she took the order without writing any of it down. I know I'd have a problem with that. But she didn't miss a beat!! She stopped back at our table to check on us and my wife had a question about her drink. The young lady admitted not knowing the answer but said she would check with her manager. A bit later, she came back and had gotten an answer to our question. So, she followed through on her word! The food came out, nice and hot....and Very Large portions. I had the Meatball hoagie, and it consisted of three VERY large meatballs, a decent helping of tasty sauce and way too many French fries for one person!! I cut it in half and took the rest home (along with some fries). It was just as good reheated the next evening for dinner. One of our friends had the Colonel Pomp's cod , a huge fish sandwich, with fries. He said it was really good. My wife ordered the toasted ravioli dipper. It was an appetizer, but was enough to eat most of it, but still have a few to take home. Our other friend got the gluten free rigatoni. Again, large portion. And she said it was really good. Really seemed to enjoy it. If you're in the area for lunch, this is a great place for food and drinks. Definitely recommend it!!

Amazing. Haven't been here in years, just because we live pretty far away. But - still as amazing. And they offered GF pasta, which is super important to me. Went for lunch. Small crowd, but by the time we left, it was full.

The building was very beautiful & historic (inside and out). Staff were very friendly and, since we were first-time visitors, were very patient, helpful, and friendly! They even had their delicious sauces jarred and available for purchase at a very reasonable price as well!

We ended up finding street parking right outside the business. We were greeted immediately upon walking in and seated promptly. Our server was working a big party next to us but was attentive to our tables needs. Our food arrived, lobster Ravioli and penned with vodka sauce, both were sub-par and not what we expected after being recommended to try this place. The noodles did not taste fresh, vodka sauce wasn't flavorful/tastie and my meal seemed tobhave suce and cheese on it and then microwaved. The seafood Ravioli sauce was not tasty and again, the pasta tasted old. We ordered a cease salad and requested to share it and they brought us 2 plates with it already split for us. Lighting was dim. Can't remember if there was a TV since we sat all the way down in the back. Staff was friendly and constantly checked in on us. They close at 9pm but we're still taking customers at 8:30pm.

Having lived in Cincinnati and eaten at Pompilios, while passing through we stopped for a late lunch on a Saturday. There was a party on the outdoor patio but the restaurant was not busy. The lunch menu is very limited. We ordered meatball hoagies. The size of the meal was large. The hoagie consisted of 4 large meatballs, cheese, and sauce on a toasted bun. They could have been more generous with the sauce. The french fries that accompanied the sandwich were outstanding. We couldn't finish our meal due to the size, even though we were hungry. It was an OK meal, it could have been better. Latter that evening I didn't feel well, my stomach was very upset. I can't 100% say it was due to lunch but that was my feeling. I went to bed early and skipped dinner. Unfortunately, I don't have a desire to return anytime soon.

This is quickly becoming my favorite Italian restaurant in the Cincinnati area. Located right across the river in Covington, you can find this legit Italian restaurant tucked away among the historic East row Victorian homes. Not to mention, this is the Italian restaurant where the movie Rain Man was filmed. If you make your way into the bar area, you can see some old posters and paraphernalia. The food is great! If you're looking for a non-commercialized version of Italian food that feels like it has its roots literally in Italy, this is it. Bread is provided, but if you are hungry, upgrade to the garlic bread. Get a side of meatballs to chomp down on while you wait for your food--it's worth it!! Make sure you ask for a box, because you will definitely leave with leftovers!

Was craving Italian and dound this place nearby. Had the pappardelle pasta with the bolognese meat sauce. The butter that came with the bread was good. Service was good.

Ask the Community - Pompilios

Is it kid friendly for dinner? 2 and 5 year old?

I would say so. It's not fancy...I didn't notice if they have a kid menu because we had no small kids with us.

I have an egg allergy. Does your pasta contain eggs and/or does some of your pastas share equipment with egg pastas?

Most likely

Our server was amazing and even gave us some other recommendations while we are in town! We started with the meatballs and devoured them. My husband commented how much the sauce reminded him of his Sicilian grandmother's sauce growing up. Hubby ordered the Sunday Sauce while I immediately knew I wanted the Limone! I now have a new favorite and immediately started searching for options closer to home once our trip ended. The balance of the lemon and ricotta with the spaghetti is absolutely divine! The restaurant has a great ambiance, the pasta was al dent and all the staff I interacted with were so helpful. It's a bit louder in here, but that kind of added to the vibe. First I started with the Barbera Blend which was delicious! G.D. Vajra was the name. Next I ordered the gem lettuce salad, I asked for dressing on the side, but dressing was on the salad when it came. I decided I would send it back if it was heavy dressed which it was not! I loved the cheese and walnuts. The Cesar dressing was lighter and not too thick and heavy. I was torn between the Grecian and the Limon but settled on the Limon. It was delish! If I had another day I'd come back for the Grecian. It was a little creamier than expected, but that was just it. I was expecting a thinner lemon sauce, it was a little thicker. I added red pepper flakes. Overall, I'd recommend this restaurant for the staff, ambiance and price point. You do need to have two dishes to get full, but I still feel the food pretty exceptional .

We were celebrating a college grad with a group of 8, never had an empty water or wine glass and explained the menu front to back! Love their oil packed tuna, their bistecca fiorentina and the pappardelle al cinghiale!! Unfortunately, we had no room for dessert so we're going to have to go back again to eat more. Haha Oh and we actually tried their Blue Oven bread for the first time and it was incredible. What a fabulous restaurant! So lucky to have it here in Cincinnati! They make you feel at home with a warm intimate atmosphere, top tier service & food so good you're sure to come back time & time again. My Server, Deron, was so friendly & helpful. His professionalism & expertise shined all throughout the evening! Our reservation was at 7:30 and we arrived around 7:25. When we got there I noticed the table near the chef's counter was still occupied, but we weren't too concerned since the party already had their to-go bags on the table. About 15 minutes passed and they ended up ordering dessert (slowly), so it became clear they weren't leaving anytime soon. The manager offered us a different table and apologized, but Lola had been really looking forward to the chef's seating since that's specifically what we reserved. In the end we waited about an hour, which was frustrating, especially since the other party could clearly see we were waiting. Overall it was an awkward situation to be in. That said, the staff handled the situation very kindly. The manager offered Lola a tour of the kitchen and the chance to meet the chef. My daughter was a little nervous and wanted me to go with her, but it seemed like the invitation was meant just for her and they didn't want adults in the kitchen (I get it!). The manager noticed she was scared and took her hand and walked her through the kitchen which made my daughter feel at ease. It was a thoughtful gesture and they were incredibly apologetic the whole time. Again, it was just an awkward situation overall. Plus we were starving. The food, however, was fantastic. The pasta was made from scratch and tasted incredibly fresh. The eggplant parmigiana was excellent, and I especially loved the "Via-misu." Despite the long wait, the staff was so kind and apologetic that it actually made us want to come back and try the experience again.

Our table had the short rib pappardelle and the lasagne. Generally agreed that there was a little too much bechamel with the lasagne, but the short rib pappardelle was fantastic. We had the prosciutto service, focaccia and the arancini for starters, and all were excellent. The Caesar salad was a little watery - like the lettuce was washed but not really dried. Our server (I think Beth) was perfect. Attentive, well versed in the menu, and quickly resolved a minor issue with the check very helpfully. The rest of the team was great too. If it was just for service, it would be 5 stars for sure. I look forward to returning!
