Following the cavity filling, I had a negative experience with my dental cleaning and had no plans to return. She was very rough but bo longer works there. I ended up cancelling my follow up but spoke to my friend and she recommended changing to Jay. Jay is the best dental cleaning I have had. They do not accept DHMO or DMO and they don't confirm your insurance until you check out. There was no intake or let us update your info/ insurance when I walked in which I thought was weird. That is the first thing that I've been asked to do but I unfortunately assumed that I was all good. Typically I have had all medical confirm beforehand so I'm at least aware of the cost. I had to pay $280 for a dental cleaning appointment. When I asked the check out about last year, she said I paid out of pocket as well which was fine. However I paid in full each time and randomly have a $4 charge on my receipt for a starting period of September. I had no appointment in September but I don't know why I was retro charged when I checked out each time. The line item also provides no detail. I would have cancelled the appointment if I had known so I'll be cancelling my future appointments for the year. To me that cost is too much so I won't be returning. I'll be reimbursing myself through HSA for the cost. The front desk, specifically the Caucasian front desk employees, should ask people their name and appointment time. That's front desk etiquette to me and eliminates any assumptions based off skin color, race, or gender. I'm not sure why that's hard but it was giving - I grew up in "whites only" and have not changed. They do offer invisalign but I ended up going somewhere else for a lower payment plan. They only offered 4 payments and I had other financial commitments so I wasn't willing to pay. Cons are the price, paying for parking and communication based on the above.

This is after them asking me to come in earlier than my scheduled appointment. There was so much pressure with upselling me that I felt like I was at the mechanic, not a dental office. For my 6 month appointment, I asked for pre approval for teeth whitening that my insurance covers. They sent the authorization over with an "unspecified" code so the insurance wouldn't approve it instead of a tooth whitening code. I canceled my appointment and took my business elsewhere. A staff member sat with me and went over my options, with pricing listed out for how much I'd be responsible for paying vs. how much insurance would pay. I chose the cheaper option. I paid what they told me my portion was. The doctor who does the wisdom teeth extraction is a third party doctor, and while the procedure was quick and easy, the after care instructions were not clearly written. I was told NOT to contact North Decatur Dentistry with questions or issues, and to instead call the doctor who performed the extraction. But the paperwork had no phone number for that doctor. Sometime later I received a bill in the mail for over double what I initially paid. When I inquired with NDD, they told me they misinterpreted my insurance coverage and that's what I owe. It was a very frustrating experience, and I don't recommend it.

I never felt surprised by a bill because everything was explained upfront. Unfortunately, my recent experience after the office moved to Chamblee was very different. I visited on a weekend in January for a deep cleaning and a painful tooth. I was told that my insurance could not be verified on the weekend and that I would need to pay upfront, but that any insurance-covered amount would be refunded after verification. I decided not to proceed with the deep cleaning, but I did see the doctor, received medication for an infection, and paid $141. The front desk informed me that I would receive a refund once my insurance was verified. I followed up two weeks later and was told they were still waiting for verification. It is now June, and I have still not received a refund or a clear explanation of the delay. I understand that insurance issues can take time, but nearly six months without resolution or communication is disappointing. I have a background in clinical operations so certain things stick out to me that may not matter to some. When I called to schedule my initial appointment the receptionist Kiara was very pleasant and highly efficient at her job. She sent me the new patient forms right away and upon arrival, all I had to do was provide my insurance and ID. I literally waited 5 minutes to be called to the back. My hygienist Kim, was amazing! She was attentive, personable, professional and kind. She did a great job of explaining everything to me as it was happening. I also think its very clever how they have televisions placed in the ceiling...I've never seen that before. The technology they used was so cutting-edge, I hate that I been missing out on them all this time but if things continue at this rate, they certainly have a lifer. The dentist seemed rushed and didn't take the time to explain my treatment options clearly. Additionally, I was overcharged for a service that my insurance was supposed to cover, and getting a refund has been a hassle. I expected better professionalism and care, but unfortunately, I won't be returning. I hope they improve their customer service and communication in the future.
