Well we finally decided to give this place a go after living next to it for years. Don't let the cigarette smell, mildew, and dirty restaurant fool you. This place is a solid 10/10 would never eat here again. Everything came from a can. Nothing tasted fresh. Fried Jalapeños were balls of mush breaded in some batter that tasted as if the fry oil hadn't been changed in years. Pico on the entrees came out looking like it had been sitting on a table for days. This has to be one of the worst Mexican places in the state. Stopped in here after my trip to Gino's for some drinks and man those margaritas were amazing. This place is super small but has great food and great drinks. The bar tender was super nice and made some mean margaritas, only had a couple as they were strong! Would come back for some more of those! read more

Small local place, needs updating and a good scrub down BUT...the food was great!! Busy place if you eat in, not very big so it's loud. They have outdoor seating but soon that won't be an option. I'd eat there again. Hubby got chimichanga with shredded chicken and I got fajitas and everything was flavorful and fresh. read more

Do not eat here! Absolutely some of the worst Mexican food I've ever had, haven't been here in 10 years or so but we were in the mood for Mexican and a good margarita. For starters the red cup salsa wasn't bad, the white cup was obviously pace/Tostitos. The margarita didn't whatsoever taste like any margarita I've ever had, way too sweet. That should have been the first red flags but we continued to order enchiladas anyways. They were absolutely atrocious, honestly think it was mozzarella cheese melted on top or some other tasteless white cheese. Beans tasted as if it was out of a can, rice was tasteless and seemed to be more than likely microwaved. read more

It was one of my favorite places until they got new staff Jabba the Hutt started working there and they're telling me that you have to tip when you get takeout which I always did tip when they gave me good service and ever since they lost their awesome waitresses that used to do their job right and would always answer the phone and take care of customers now they have bartenders getting drunk and not doing their job. read more

Worst food ever and service was horrible! I asked our waitress for water and she ignored me. Ordered a frozen margarita and it was a "frothy" margarita with hardly any margarita in it at all. All the food has mozzarella cheese on it and it was just gross. I left over 3/4 of the gross food in my plate and the waitress never asked if it was ok. Floors, walls and kitchen were disgusting! This unassuming little building set far from the winding curves of Jefferson avenue is a real find. I've gotten to where I can't stand faux Mexican foods (like the horror show that is El Charro), but I usually don't have time to drive to Mexican Town to get the real deal. Now, I don't have to. The tortilla chips are thick and crunchy and fresh, and the salsa and guacamole are also high-quality. As I've seen other diners mention, the freshness of the ingredients makes all the difference. Part of me wishes I had tried more of the menu in my two trips here, but one item - the perch tacos - is so good I couldn't NOT order it the second time. Unlike the greasy, soft-crust fish chunks you normally see in fish tacos, these were substantial pieces of very fresh fish, with a crunchy exterior that didn't taste the least bit greasy. I really could have munched on the fish by itself, but all the other ingredients were so flawlessly prepared I wanted to enjoy the full experience. The fact that it was so incredibly good both times speaks volumes about the skills of the chef and the attention to detail and quality of the management. read more

I stopped in for supper tonight. I ordered an item from the specials menu - Carne Bola Guisada. Man, that was an excellent selection! Plus, the portion was large, so now I have another meal waiting for me in the fridge. From their menu: Carne Bola Guisada - Steak tips sautéed with green pepper, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes in a robust sauce; served in a bread bowl topped with melted cheese; served with rice and beans. $13.25, and worth every penny. Disappointed is an understatement, disgusted is more like it. I've been coming here over 20 years, I'm not sure what happened the last couple... I had a bad experience last time I was here but figured I would give it one more shot. I was appalled the minute I walked in. The place was FILTHY! I literally had to sweep used napkins from under my seat and clean off my own chair. I watched a couple walk out. The margaritas are water now... We were asked if we wanted more chips and we said yes... Then the waitress returned to let us know they were out. Out of tortilla chips at a Mexican restaurant?! Pancho Cisco's, with its small dining room, smaller bar, and festive outdoor seating, is a local treasure; a favorite among boaters and families. I'd give it a 5 if not that it needs to be updated! This place used to be my go to Mexican on the eastside. Unfortunately, my recent trip there a few days ago is still leaving me with a sick feeling in my stomach. I ordered nachos and my friend ordered the seafood chimichanga. The place was filthy. Looking up, the ceiling tiles were filled with dirt as were the walls. The floor look like a food fight Had just taken place. Something was biting at my feet and I looked down to see black flies bite me.....but, they paled in comparison to the fruit flies buzzing around while I was trying to eat....Yuk. You don't need a reservation for Poncho & Cisco, but you may need one for the toilet at home. And believe me, you don't want to use the dirty bathroom here, so drive fast. "Montezuma's Revenge" would be a better fitting title for the restaurant. I've been here a few times before with some family. It's not the place I would choose to go, but I usually get through it. I say this because the food is bland and there are plenty of better options out there, like Taco Bell or Del Taco coming to mind. Paco's is an excellent choice if it's not a Sunday actually, and a highly recommended pick. I'm not the type to have gastric distress and have been known to eat less than ideal things with no regret. I never really knew why people joked about having issues after eating Mexican food. Now I get where all of those jokes come from. This place gives Mexican food a bad name. As most other Mexican restaurants, you get chips and salsa here too. The salsa has an off smoked pepper taste to it, while neither the regular nor the mild have a hint of kick to it. This stuff can't be store bought, because it would actually be good if it was. It's edible, but not enjoyable. I ordered queso fundito as an alternative appetizer. What came out was dried chorizo on top of queso blanco. Nothing mixed together, and 4 tortillas to scoop it up. It was edible, but the chorizo actually made it a bit worse than it could have been if it was just melted cheese. The drinks are something to be desired. I ordered pop which comes in a tiny glass full of ice. I needed 3-4 refills in the 45 minutes I was there. My wife got the strawberry margarita, which we both agreed had no hint of alcohol. It was good, but better suited for the kids. For the main course, I ordered a couple bean and cheese burritos without onions. What a mistake. While I have never had lingering effects before, this turned out to be a long night and a longer morning regretting what I ordered. The burritos come out smothered in cheese and full of beans, sour cream, tomatoes, and a smattering of ranchero sauce. The side was more beans and lightly flavored rice. Nothing to write home about. The beans are that bland stuff you get at some places with the baked film on top. They're dry, require salt, and are probably the reason for me losing sleep last night. In fact, my stomach started hurting before we even left the restaurant. It's volatile. I didn't finish my meal and brought the rest home, but it's going to the compost. The only positive to this place is that the service is good. This is probably because there is way too much staff for such a tiny establishment. It's a shame though that no one has ever properly cleaned the bathroom, which looks (and smells) like it hasn't been cleaned in years. If you do end up going here, don't get anything bean based. Truth be told, I haven't had these issues before, so I blame this experience on the beans. Everyone else I know who has been here likes the place, but I recommend trying something else out, especially if you have to work the next morning. read more

Went there on a Tuesday evening with my family (there was 8 of us). Mind you when we arrived there were approx 3 tables with customers who had already been served their food. (not a busy time) The server took our drink order first. I asked for water for the table in addition to the drinks that were ordered. A good 5-10 minutes we were given the ordered drinks, no water. I asked again, if she would bring us water. Everyone ordered a dinner, some soup, etc.. My sister and mother ordered chicken and shrimp fajitas. My daughter ordered a chimichanga with the sour cream and guac on the side. I reminded the server for the 3rd time that we were still waiting for water. Dinner arrived to our table, my mother and sister had steak fajitas placed in front of them, my daughter and the sour cream and guac on her food not on the side and we were missing the jalapeno cornbread that was ordered. The server apologized, and then blamed the "cook". She then asked my daughter if they could just scrape off the toppings she didn't want or did they really have to recook it all. (with a very sour attitude). We declined the entire order at that point and my daughter just shared my dinner. Although my sister and mother now had to wait for theirs to be remade. By the time the fajitas and cornbread was served to our table, the rest of us had already finished our food. When the bill came, I asked the server if a discount was going to be given for the multiple errors with our order and the fact the we were not able to eat together. She huffed and puffed and said what you want like a fried ice cream or something. (No! We didn't want an ice cream) I declined that and suggested she bring her manager to our table so that we could speak with him. She said he was the only cook cook and wouldn't be free to speak with us. She also mentioned that he was in a bad mood and would just yell at her anyways. She then offered to take off the cost 2 soups that we had ordered. We accepted. That evening my son attempted to finish his leftovers. In mid-bite he had to spit out the food because there was something HARD in the chicken. (I looked at it, it may have been a piece of bone) . I called the next day to speak with the manager. Never received a return call. I called again today and he is not in, I was told they gave him the message though. Needless to say - SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME. Salsa was not homemade (clearly bought in bulk, similar to a grocery store quality) chips were stale. Service was terrible and the manager is not available to speak to when you have a concern. The older blonde woman waitress with a flashy light up headband on walked past our table and another table not even saying anything not making eye contact. a young man waiter who had most of the tables in the dining room including two large groups finally came over to take our order and apologized, apparently she was supposed to be our server. another table who was there before us, walked out! I have been coming here for a number of years. I usually get a take out, but today I dined in. I was craving tacos. I couldnt remember if I liked their tacos since I normally get the falautas. They offered chicken or beef. I had 1 chicken and 2 beef. I wish I would have just had chicken. The chips seemed stale. The salsa did not taste like it was made fresh, I think they use jarred stuff. This is a no no for me. The pop was also bad. Was not "real" coke. Kind of flat and syrupy. My kids shared a grilled cheese which was only half a sandwich and partially burned. The bathroom is completely yucky. Cob webs under the toilet. One of those hand towel machines that has a big piece of fabric on rollers. I can't tell you the last time I saw one of those. Gross outdated bathroom. The dinning room has not been updated since opening back in the 80s or 90s. I will only come here when desperate since it is close to my house . I hope they stop being cheap and figure out how to compete with neighboring restaurants. read more

Being new to Harrison Township, I asked one of my buddies where the good places to eat are. He said, "If you want Mexican food, you have to go to Poncho & Cisco's." It was a Friday night and the family didn't feel like going out, so I decided to test the mettle of Poncho's and order carry-out. It was incredible. I ordered the large nachos (LOADED with cheese and items), which were actually too much to eat in a sitting. The best thing about the nachos - the meat wasn't greasy, and actually had flavor! My wife ordered a taco-combo dish and ate everything (which is a rarity for my wife and sad thing for me, because I'm usually offered what's left). The salsa wasn't something I'd write home about (it was more liquid than chunky), and the chips were a little too crunchy for my liking (I prefer lighter, crisper chips), but even my kids were impressed - including my picky 5-year old. They have an outdoor eating area that seems to fill up nicely when the weather is great, and the locals swarm there. read more

Poncho & Cisco is is always my go to choice when in the area. Unlike most "Authentic" Mexican restaurant's, their menu is made with FRESH ingredients. You won't have microwaved food delivered to your table. There are many bars and fish specialty restaurant's in the area with higher priced menu's, this is always a great alternative to the normal everyday bar & grill and getting a great meal for the pricepoint. It is a bit tucked away and difficult to find, if you don't know what you're looking for. But it's worth firing up the GPS to find, if you aren't from the area. The staff takes time to go over any questions on the menu. They are very friendly and took out time to share information with me on other Mexican restaurant's in the area with a non bias opinion, which I can appreciate. As for the atmosphere, I feel it is pretty close to the feel of Mexico. You're not going to find a GIANT extravagant restaurant on the streets of mexico. You'll find cute little mom & pop shops with little to no frill and emphasis on the food and menu. Bottom line, It's DELISH! read more

Margarita was okay and I thought the price was a bit high for one person, (beef borritos, w/beans and rice, two margaritas $20) Beef borritos made with ground beef. Had dinner here a few weeks back. Food was very tasty. Service was good. Nothing to complain about as far as the restaurant was concerned. Give it a shot! Or don't, who am I to tell you what to do with your life. My only complaint is about the woman seated at the table next to us. I over heard her say her name was Karrie R. Super annoying nasally voice. Just kept talking about how she was a reviewer on Yelp. Really annoying person in general. You all know the type. The ones who think that their opinions should be told to everybody and that they should carry weight with people. Real self important girl. Girl you look at and right away can see the smug arrogance of a Yelp reviewer. Just an all around terrible person. So again, good food, good service. Give it a shot, or don't.
