So this will be two reviews and each is 5 My wife and I stopped here during our stay in Mariposa on a trip to Yosemite. Our first morning we had breakfast at the Ahwahnee hotel where satisfaction was not to be found. Our coffee was mediocre and the food was on par with hometown buffet. The following morning, in need of java to lift our spirits, we stumbled in to Pony Espresso. We were greeted by two wonderful, inviting people who roast the best dang beans in town. My wife and I ordered the regular ol' "serve yourself" coffee and it was absolutely delicious. Exactly what I was needing. This is definitely a place we plan to visit when back in Mariposa...oh and Yosemite...we'll visit Yosemite also. This review is for "the Bagels are Coming" Literally, THE BEST BAGEL I EVER AAAAAATE! My wife and I got ours at the Pony Espresso. Cheddar/jalapeno. So good. I bought a frittata with it and made a breakfast sandwich out of it. No matter what way you choose to eat it, you can't go wrong with these deliciously chewy creations. Oh...and they will over night them to you home. Send me a batch to temecula. Mariposa might be one of the most uncomfortable cities in the United States. You have a desert, quite literally, next to the oasis of Yosemite. Yet, the dryness makes your ears peel, and the sun beams down like fire breathing down your neck. Coffee doesn't help when you are dehydrated and hot, but going to a coffee shop is generally on my bucket list when heading to new cities. Even if the beans served are not from roasters that are considered cream-of-the-crop. Service wasn't the best here, but I likely would not be the most hospitable and warm barista in 100 degree weather, with the A/C not blowing strong enough to combat the gross temperatures. The iced latte was okay, and the iced coffee erred on the diluted end of the spectrum. As a whole, the coffee quality is so-so. read more

We love this small coffee shop. The owner and staff are just wonderful and drinks are made with care. You won't find corporate overly processed and bland drinks here. What you will find is coffee roasted on site in small batches, drinks that are expertly made with skill rather than the push of a button, and great friends and conversation. We live an hour away, but make regular attempts to find reasons to come to Mariposa so we can come here. *There is also a community bike workshop in the back that anyone can use to fix or tune their bikes. read more

Came to Yosemite for the first time this past weekend. Of course the first thing a coffee addict would do is to jump on Yelp and search for the best, most highly reviewed place that's at a nearby location. Let's jump right into it. Ordered a double espresso, espresso, and carrot cake. The carrot cake...... I don't even like carrot cake, but damn, this one was good. It was dense, real dense. It was sweet, but anything but overbearingly sweet. I felt like I was somewhat eating an apple pie. I'm a fan. The coffees were good. And of course, a coffee addict must buy a bag or two from a foreign place to bring back home. I got a pound of their Tunnel View dark (same coffee I was drinking) and that was there darkest roast. BTW, they roast their beans in house and bag em up. I just opened the bag and holy moly I've never seen so much oil on beans before. SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES!!! read more

We stopped here while staying at AutoCamp (short drive away) and visiting Yosemite. We stopped in for coffee on our way into the park. The real show stopper was the raspberry scone! I was in town for business, and I decided to stop in here for a quick coffee and breakfast. I was greeted warmly, and the ladies were very patient while I decided what I wanted. The bacon and cheese frittata was exactly what I was looking for, and super tasty! The Mexican mocha was amazing, with just the right amount of spice. I'm a coffee snob but this is a really great coffee shop. People are friendly and have some recommendations for restaurants in town. I've tried several types of their coffee over the past couple of days and thought each was expertly roasted. It's a super cute shop, and their mango Greek yoghurt parfait was pretty yummy. There were a couple students studying in the seating further in and sort of partitioned from the counter. I was a little disappointed in the iced coffee because it tasted burnt (I was a barista for 3 years). Because it is a coffee shop that's why I scored it with a 3. I've also experienced much friendlier staff in the other establishments in the area. Perhaps I came off as being in a rush, but it was a little off putting. read more

Can't describe how wonderful this cozy coffee shop is, I never knew just what it was that I loved so much about it untill I can't coming back, and it's the OWNERS and their employees, they truely have a way of makin you feel like family! And the coffee! OMG! Chi tea all the way!!! And the FOOD, most coffee shops are like here's your 20 day old baggle, not this place they cook breakfast and lunch fresh everyday! Are you on a diet? This is my story: I was biking around Mariposa, CA on the Memorial Day weekend when I stopped for breakfast. Upon returning to my bike, I discovered that my rear tire was completely flat. Well, as a hardened city-slicker from LA who is skilled at dodging heavy traffic, I was totally ill-equiped to deal with such a situation. How was I to know to be prepared for "goat horns"? I had no spare, tire pump or even a patch kit in this unfamiliar rural gold town. I was in a real fix. So. after a brief prayer, "HELP!", I started asking around for a bike shop. "Nothing like that in Mariposa," I was told, "but you might try this place or that place." So off I went towards the first location. After pushing my bike for a half mile, I was told, "Nope! It's da other way." Then, up from behind me came a friendly voice. "What's your problem?" I turned and tried to muster all of the positiveness that I could, ""Ahhh..., I got a flat tire and looking for a place to fix it." "Bring it over to my coffee shop and I'll fix it up right away." he cheerfully responded. And that he (Bill} did at no cost to me. Thereafter, I kept muttering to myself, "If that wasn't a God-thing, I don't know what is." So, if your up in that area about 60 miles west of the Park, stop by and say hi for me. As a local, I'm in here on a regular basis; it gets frickin' hot outside in the summer, and chilly in the winter, and they always have something to take the edge off. The staff has always been friendly and fun, they know my order as soon as I walk in the door, and everything is made fresh - nothing overly processed and bland. They take awesome care to make sure their ingredients are responsibly harvested, and their coffee is made small batch on site. They have home-made foods brought in, and a whole selection of it. Love them so much. I was born and raised in Mariposa and every Friday, for all 4 years of high school, we went to pony. Deb is amazing and even after moving to Fresno 3 and a half years ago, she still remembers my usual order and it's always fantastic. Bill and Amy are always great as well, always welcoming and friendly. Every time I come home to visit my family, it is a must stop! This place had an unfortunate demise when it's original location burnt to the ground. But it has risen from the ashes and is serving up it's awesome coffees once again! The new location also brings a new drink: Chocolate Stout Latte. They take stout brewed by a local craft brewer, render it down to a syrup and add that as a flavor to a latte--and it's simply awesome. Probably the best coffee I've ever had. read more

I am VERY picky about my coffee and customer service! This place took great care of both. The coffee here is much better any other place in Mariposa and is just as good as my go to place in Petaluma! You can tell they love what they do by the flavor of the coffee beans they roast there! As far as the customer service.......It is second to none! Amy, Debbie, Megan and Wild Bill are friendly real people, big bonus in a small town, where's it's nice not to just be a name on a ticket. There house coffee bar is a walk up, serve yourself then pay when you get in line, another plus if your craving a hot cup of java!. An excellent stop on the way to and from Yosemite on Highway 140. Their espresso is dynamite, both strong and smooth. Also, Pony Expresso makes a really good "cold coffee". read more
