Carrot cake, pretty decent, little dry.

Eaten here a couple times, and I've come to the conclusion that it's just okay. Very healthy food, but the texture and flavor just isn't there on most things. On this occasion I had the chicken chili and Carrot Cake. I usually don't feel that chicken should be the main protein in chili and sorry I'm still not convinced. It lacked texture and the piece of bread included wasn't quite it for me too. The carrot cake was better although maybe slightly over baked as it was a touch dry but not too bad. Service is always fine if not a bit unfriendly as it is a counter order affair this doesn't effect much, and the outside seating area is among the poppies right now which is pretty, even if right on the road. I'm being a little hard on the place it's really not bad, but in pursuit of being ultimately healthy it really hurts the flavor and texture of the food, you can't even get a Diet Coke or something if you want it with your meal. It's slim pickings in Mariposa so consider this little place just keep in mind it's going to be more healthy than delicious.

Cute little grocery store with a cafe attached. Prices are surprisingly reasonable. My husband and i both got sandwiches for lunch-we got the Mariposan. It was decent thought not well stuffed and came with chips. The sandwiches were all $10-$15 each.

What a great find on our drive home from Yosemite! Located in a lovely little grocery store, this sunny cafe has an amazing menu of sandwiches, salads, and soups at reasonable prices. Wow, did it feel good to have so many healthy options after a couple days on the road. Of course, that doesn't mean I ignored the homemade chocolate chip cookies

2/04/25 Getting lunch! The worker was very kind and happy to give recommendations. Their most, popular, Totokon, that he said was plenty to share. It won! He said it would be ready shortly and I went in to get it shortly later. It's a little grocery store & restaurant. Short wait in line. Told worker my name and it was handed over. Lunchtime! Sandwich split. LARGE! My half was Really DELICIOUS! Fresh & Flavorful! Great side sauce too! Mother said her half was GREAT with nice flavor! Good service & GREAT lunch! Highly recommended!

Great selection, fresh cooked food, excellent service. Had a chicken, bacon, avocado sandwich served with a smile (thanks Joy!)

High Country Café is Mariposa's answer to "What if lunch made me feel amazing instead of slightly guilty?" It's the home of the sprout-stuffed pita sandwich, where everything tastes fresh, clean, and like it was pre-approved by your digestive system. Tucked right next to a health food store, you can grab a sandwich, a kombucha, and a bag of candied ginger in one smooth move -- the holy trinity of snacks for anyone about to hit the trails in Yosemite or just pretend they're going. It's quick, wholesome, and perfect for grabbing on the go before your big hike. No fryer smell, no nap-required food coma -- just real fuel that won't fight you halfway up the switchbacks. Whether you're chasing waterfalls or just chasing balance, High Country is your pre-adventure pit stop. Sprouts, pita, peace. Go forth and hike gloriously.

Half drunk carrot juice (forgot to take a pic!)

Before I talk about this place, I highly recommend the El Portal route into Yosemite if you're trying to find reduced traffic heading in, which passes by this place. The pay station also has a shorter drive into the valley. Of course, if it's your first time ever in Yosemite, you may prefer the route that enters through Tunnel View, although going through El Portal only takes about another 20mins to drive back into Tunnel View. Anyways, this was the perfect pit stop for our road trip. Honestly I didn't make reservations to get into Yosemite this time, so was stuck going in after 4pm. I timed getting here on time but was still early so made the best choice ever to stop here. It's basic but has everything you need as a pit stop - groceries, cafe with fresh juices, AC, indoor seating and clean bathroom. This is going in my bookmarks!

This is just a few of the amazing products I get here.

High Country Health Food Store is the best in the west. Amazing organic produce. Unique meats- they have liverwurst that's organic. Display everything high-end with care. The people here take time care and attention to details. They are very kind and helpful. When they bag your groceries, they don't just throw it in the bag. The buyer here includes unique products that you just don't find at other stores. Highly recommend this wonderful store. The premade tuna sandwich is the best in the deli. So good. Amazing. They even have a very nice seating area to eat with a nice view of the mountains.

    El Capitan

My daughter and I had an absolutely fantastic lunch here. They have a great menu with a variety of healthy options. I tried the Usona and she had the El Capitan, both were prepared fresh and were so good! The store itself is well stocked and I loved the apothecary section as well as the natural soaps that you can refill. I will certainly be back for some more shopping and to try another one of their fabulous sandwiches.

Amazing sandwiches! Fresh produce. Delicious. Gluten and dairy free options. Very nice people! Great selection of food.

This might be the best sandwich I've ever had. There's a seating area, but it's definitely the deli inside a health food grocery store.

We tried the breakfast, apple, lamb, and butter chicken pies plus a sausage roll. All were delicious, balanced, and obviously rich but never greasy or heavy. The crust is perfectly flaky and buttery, not too flaky and not too buttery and is the perfect thickness and texture for accentuating the fillings inside. But what makes these standout is the fillings. They're an explosion of perfectly balanced flavors, and you can really tell that they were made with care. We talked to the owner and he says he sources his ingredients locally which we really appreciate, he says the beef is from a ranch near Bishop and he also gets bones to boil the beef stock to make the gravies. We tried pretty much every flavor they had, every single flavor was superb but personally here's how I rank the pies: 1) Lamb - Lamb is often tough or gamey, but this lamb was neither. Each chunk was moist and tender and perfectly seasoned. The gravy it was in was phenomenal. If you like lamb or are even just okay on lamb this is a must try. 2) Steak - Besides just meat, the inside of the steak was more like a shepherd's pie. There was peas and potatoes, and the meat was perfect. 3) Ground Beef and cheese - The beef had a really nice deep flavor, you can taste it's high quality ground beef. 4) Butter chicken - This is a hot take because I think he said butter chicken is one of their most popular flavors, and I can see why. The chicken is perfectly cooked and the flavor is great. 5) Lentil - Okay this one was actually really good, I'm just a meat eater so of course it's going to be bottom of my list but if you're just going to get two I think this pairs well with the lamb. The sausage roll was also really good, the sausage was not some cheap sausage there was real meaty flavor to it. If you have the room in your stomach I would definitely add on a sausage roll. Unfortunately they were out of apple pie and the potato top when we were there, but I definitely want to try that next time.

The espresso machine was out, which wasn't a huge deal since drip coffee was available, but the coffee itself was honestly pretty bad. It also didn't help that we were told the flavored syrup drinks were basically the same as their espresso specialty drinks, but it tasted like water down drip coffee. I ordered the French toast plate and my partner got the biscuits and gravy. The bacon seemed undercooked, the pancakes were dry, the biscuits and gravy were burnt, and the gravy itself was runny. Overall, for a meal that ended up being over $50 with tip, we were really disappointed with the quality.
