We popped in to High Country this afternoon and left happy campers. Tucked off the highway, you'll find this awesome deli and healthy foods store. Friendly staff, clean and efficient. They have a wealth of sandwich options to choose from. We went with a turkey and chicken breast sandwich paired with 2 small bags of chips and a dill pickle. Delicious! Their seating area to the side is bright and inviting, This is our new spot to eat while on the way to Yosemite. While ordering, they had the phone ringing which goes to show that locals love this spot. Will return! read more

I came here with two friends after leaving Yosemite. Perhaps we came on an off day, but the staff we interacted were rude and made use feel very unwelcome. We came here because they have vegetarian options and looked like a fairly quick option. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a while. We bought three sandwiches, two drinks, and a dessert from the cafe and the staff were rude and didn't let us eat at the tables in the cafe. Even though we had bought multiple items and just wanted to eat our sandwiches quickly before getting the staff member at the cafe was so rude we ended up taking our food outside and eating in our car in 103 degree heat. I got the roasted sandwich without cheese and with bacon. The sandwich itself was tasty and the chicken was moist. However, the cost was nearly $8 for half a sandwich, which was very small. Ambiance: the cafe area looked clean and was completely empty. It would have been fine and serviceable. Customer Service: 1 star. We arrived shortly before 3 p.m. and staff rushed us. I asked for three minute to read the menu and the cashier at the cafe said they were closing in two minutes. It was the most unwelcome I've felt at a restaurant in a very long time. There was no one else there, we had already bought multiple things from the cafe and spent over $50 all together and had to eat our sandwiches in the parking lot in 103 F heat. I've been to other establishments and unknowingly shown up near closing time, but usually that can be communicated politely. I regret spending any money here and supporting this business. Taste: 3 stars for the taste, texture and flavor of the chicken sandwich. 2 stars for the farmers market wrap. 3.5 stars for the carrot zucchini cake. Value: 2 stars. We've reviewed this cafe before, and we're STILL thrilled with it! The food is amazing and the options are interesting, and a little unusual! The cafe is immaculate, and there's plenty of seating. A huge menu means you're sure to find a favorite! For a cafe, the service is pretty good. The kitchen will go out of their way to make sure you get the lunch you want, the way you want it. Around lunch time the place can get packed, so, if you're going, aim a little before, or a little after noon! We go often, and highly recommend it! read more

What a great find! On our way out of Yosemite we stopped for lunch and we bought enough quiche for dinner as well. The sandwiches were amazing, full of lots of yummy ingredients. The chocolate fudge brownie so good too. I nibbled on it all the way home in the RV. read more

Eaten here a couple times, and I've come to the conclusion that it's just okay. Very healthy food, but the texture and flavor just isn't there on most things. On this occasion I had the chicken chili and Carrot Cake. I usually don't feel that chicken should be the main protein in chili and sorry I'm still not convinced. It lacked texture and the piece of bread included wasn't quite it for me too. The carrot cake was better although maybe slightly over baked as it was a touch dry but not too bad. Service is always fine if not a bit unfriendly as it is a counter order affair this doesn't effect much, and the outside seating area is among the poppies right now which is pretty, even if right on the road. I'm being a little hard on the place it's really not bad, but in pursuit of being ultimately healthy it really hurts the flavor and texture of the food, you can't even get a Diet Coke or something if you want it with your meal. It's slim pickings in Mariposa so consider this little place just keep in mind it's going to be more healthy than delicious. read more

My daughter and I had an absolutely fantastic lunch here. They have a great menu with a variety of healthy options. I tried the Usona and she had the El Capitan, both were prepared fresh and were so good! The store itself is well stocked and I loved the apothecary section as well as the natural soaps that you can refill. Before I talk about this place, I highly recommend the El Portal route into Yosemite if you're trying to find reduced traffic heading in, which passes by this place. The pay station also has a shorter drive into the valley. Of course, if it's your first time ever in Yosemite, you may prefer the route that enters through Tunnel View, although going through El Portal only takes about another 20mins to drive back into Tunnel View. Anyways, this was the perfect pit stop for our road trip. Honestly I didn't make reservations to get into Yosemite this time, so was stuck going in after 4pm. I timed getting here on time but was still early so made the best choice ever to stop here. It's basic but has everything you need as a pit stop - groceries, cafe with fresh juices, AC, indoor seating and clean bathroom. This is going in my bookmarks! read more

While staying in MidPines for two days and not being the type of people to grill/cook/fire up anything outside or on our own, my husband and I found ourselves eating twice at the High Country Cafe during our short time in the area. An order at the counter and then go around the corner and grab yourself a table type of place, we returned because we liked Theresa, the lady working behind the counter taking our order, and also that the menu was pretty clean, healthy, with lots of vegetarian options. Each time we were there, our meals were made fresh. Sprouts, squash soup, burritos....all made fresh. Some breakfast stuff, some lunch stuff, we found there was always something we would eat. Nothing fancy, just real healthy food. The cafe is inside the grocery store, which was small and nice too. They have restrooms that were clean. The staff is very friendly and efficient, seeing that they are dealing with tourists like us in the area that appear to be like dear in headlights. There was never a crazy line like many of the other spots in town that seem touristy and packed. Seating is mostly inside. They have two tables outside near the main road that are available as well. We feel like the High Country Cafe is a small oasis in Mariposa and we were glad we found it. read more

My group of 5 flew in the door in a panic, as we weren't sure that the café would stay open for us for lunch at 2:40 PM (Cafe closes at 3). Not only did they happily take our order, but they got all five of our sandwiches out in about 20 minutes. They were the perfect refuel after a long day of hiking in Yosemite. With Burger King just down the road, I'm glad we chose this option that left us feeling nourished and energized. We stopped here while visiting Yosemite and found this great little spot. Originally we stopped here for lunch but was surprised to see the that the market here had a variety of fresh produce as well as other goods. The sandwiches were delicious, I got a Bootjack but all looked great and it was hard to choose. It was nice to have such tasty and fresh food on the road where fast food is the norm. Love it! You can't go wrong with one of the quiches, but my favorite is the Southwest Chicken Salad. I also dig the sandwiches a lot, like the Fish Camp and Bootjack. Lovely ambience in the eating area, and the store stocks all sorts of great stuff. A real nice hangout and a local favorite, but very accessible to tourists. read more

For vegans and vegetarians, this place would be super good. But for someone that likes meat, it don't taste that great. But everything is fresh! Got a quiche and a sandwich. They have a super nice dining room set up. It would be nice to meet up here to lounge around a bit before going up to Yosemite or a lake. They do have a market if you forget anything! Defintiely a bunch of local stuff and things you wouldn't see anywhere! My order took forger though, over 20 minutes. No idea why, they weren't that busy and my friends got their food pretty fast.
