We started with the mozzarella sticks which were good and came with salsa. For mains we had two carne asada burritos, a reuben sandwich, the garlic bread burger, and a salad. All of the food was just okay. If you get the burrito, dont ask for salsa in it because it will turn the burrito cold. The curly fries and crinkle fries that comes with the meal are very good. I will say, they are generous with the condiments. I asked for a side of bleu cheese and they give a good sized portion. The best part of this place is the beer! they gave ice frozen ice mug and the beer portion was huge! Haha. A nice place to visit if you're starving, but dont expect the absolute best quality. Happy Burger Diner would have been a happier experience but what was meant to be a quick stop on our way into Yosemite turned into over an hour wait after being told the wait would only be 20min. service was capable and friendly, the food while well proportioned, was on the greasy side and was lacking in flavor. the blue cheese dressing helped. the burger was good with the dressing, the French dip was a lot better when I added pickles and the blue cheese dressing but slightly bland on its own. The jalapeno poppers were pretty dry and firm like they were over fried. The shoestring fries were tasty like McDonald's fries. Vibrant and authentic atmosphere with the discography and rock n roll memorabilia on the walls. The silver lining was a free scoop on my birthday, the strawberry cheesecake was generously portioned and delicious. Lots of outdoor seating. Hamburger: had great Smokey flavor, sourdough was toasted well with butter, the patty was a decent size. Customer service: it was a little chaotic, they were positively slammed and things happen. A ticket was lost or something and they were trying to figure it out. It was all figured out. Time of our order was 37 minutes. I've never timed before, but was curious when friend said they waited forever. Just out of curiosity! We needed the break from the car and were in need of food. Very very disappointed in this place! Have been stopping here for years to and from Yosemite Valley. This place is really going downhill. I don't know who's managing these young ppl who work there, but oh my gosh they need to step it up! We went literally yesterday for dinner. First the salad bar was gross, hadn't been touched in hours...no lettuce, most of the vegetables were gone if not mushy or soggy. Gross! I'll pass on the salad. I ordered fruit to go with my burger. She gave me a small bowl of fruit, that had "turned". It was mushy and unideble. The onion rings were just ok, but over cooked. Then the burger game. This place is incredible! Just an unassuming diner but we had the best burger we have had in years, there at this place where we expected not much! The fries are also astounding as they fry in beef tallow- delish! I had a side salad which I was able to make myself at the well stocked and very fresh salad bar. Overall this is a great spot to eat and we would come again! We were on the way up to Yosemite and the spot we were gonna try was closed since it was Monday. Happy Birger Diner has an outdoor patio with umbrellas out front (sorry forgot to take a photo) that we enjoyed with our two dogs. You go inside to order (cash preferred, but credit cards accepted) and they will bring the food out to you. My mom and o shared a BLT and garlic fries...the BLT was delicious and they loaded it with bacon! The fries were way over salted, so we didn't eat much of those. Overall it's a really chill place. From offering a10% discount to seniors 55+ and veterans, to every dish being cooked from scratch--they advise you that your food will take between 20-30 minutes to be served--but it is so worth the wait!! They use excellent quality ingredients--I had a Denver omelet and it had real fresh cut cubes of ham and green and red peppers, onions and two cheese. Absolutely delicious! The roasted potatoes were crispy and fresh and the sourdough toast was exceptional. Even the coffee was excellent. Finally, the service was awesome and the staff were super attentive and friendly. I ordered some fries along with mine which we shared because the portion was so big. They were excellent, great seasoning and steak fries to boat. The staff was absolutely wonderful. Very helpful with the menu and explaining different things. You felt welcome no matter how busy the place was. And on Tuesday afternoon, it was very busy. We waited about a half an hour, which was absolutely fine. We weren't in a hurry. The only thing I wish I had done was check to see if they had a shake on their menu which would've been outstanding. A coworker of mine who lives in the foothills suggested I try this place while in town for a work meeting. I finally made it here on my last day--as my last stop out of town before returning home. I ended up ordering the ortega burger on a wheat bun, ditching the jalapeno sauce (I'm a wuss), and adding pickles and mayo to the sandwich. (sorry-can't get a burger without pickles). I also ordered the shoestring fries, and at the last minute, added the fried green beans--all to go. It took a short minute to get my food, because it is all made fresh to order. If you are in a rush--you can call ahead and have your order ready to go. I didn't mind the wait. Everything was packaged in a way that was easy for me to eat in my car on the way home. The fries were crispy and very salty. I love salty french fries--so they were perfect. If you watch your salt, you definitely want to say something when you order to reduce how much they add to your order. The fried green beans were delicious--with a super crispy batter that tasted like onions--maybe they use the same batter for their onion rings? They were a bit greasy, but the paper bag helped absorb the excess. As for the burger, it was thick, juicy, flavorful, and maybe the best burger I've had all year.
