I booked a reservation months ago. They had all his health records. A few days before I had to check my dog in I got an email saying he needed a rabies vaccine 48 hours before I dropped him off. He was scheduled a vaccine after the date and I couldn't get an appointment before with such short notice. They then told me I wouldn't be able to bring him. First time customer got 50% off, which is fantastic. However, they don't walk your dogs, only let them go to bathroom in certain play area, and claim will clean up if any waste seen in their rooms. My miniature schnauzer got a cough during his stay, and my vet at Vca told me that he might caught by other sick dogs. The staff was okay friendly and not very efficient, shows no passions. Place is beautiful, even have room with tv, which I have no idea what's that for. Compared to pooch hotel, I recommend VCA boarding at Brookline more. read more

My dog is over one-year-old. A very intelligent poddle who was house trained by 4 months. I went to the pooch hotel and they would not let me see the exact site that they would allow my dog to be during daycare. All they would do is show me a video. When they showed me the video I asked where do the dogs relieve themselves. I was told that they all relieve themselves right in the same room that they play with their employees, where their toys are and where or near where they eat. There is a drain where the urine would stream down like dirt and water to a sewar drain. ALL IN THE SAME ROOM the dogs played and in front of the staff the dogs would pee and poop and then the staff would mop up after they pooped and peed in front of all the other dogs. Before I cheked my dog in for day care I said to the staff wouldn't this be a bad idea and give the dogs a reason to poop and pee in places other than where they are suppose like the owners home? The employee from pooch hotel told me we've never had a complaint that this would or has happened. I let my dog stay there for a few days for maybe five hours each day Since I left my dog stay there for a few days my dog is peeing and pooping all over my house and looking at me as if this was normal since he was doing it for the last few days at the pooch hotel. Weeks later I am still having this problem! I emailed Pooch Hotel about this situation with NO response. I can guess that they've received other complaints. Now I have to attempt to retrain my dog to be housebroken. I warn anyone that wants to leave their dog off to stay at the pooch hotel for even a few hours to think twice because it will cost them a lot more time effort and sweat to reteach their dog again to house train the pet. read more

I'm saddened by all the bad reviews here. Pooch Hotel took great care of my Pitbull, Remington when I was away one weekend in October. I'm really picky when it comes to who takes care of my dogs. I only left one of my babies and he's the pickiest one of them all. They understood he couldn't be around other dogs and gave him special alone time. The only thing I wish that pooch hotel had done was upload more pictures to their social media pages. I didn't get a room with web cams and I missed him like crazy! I'll definitely be back with Rem and my other two crazy babies when I get married in the fall! The staff is also amazing!!! A+++ read more

Our dog had a fun time with other dogs. Unfortunately, our dog returned with a highly soiled bed. Our dog also developed a urinary tract infection after staying there. It seems as though she didn't urinate when at the hotel. I'm concerned that the staff didn't notice this and take care of it and allowed this to happen. The dog smelled absolutely terrible when she returned. They didn't say anything about this to us. I would probably avoid this place. read more

My dog is excited to play with his "buddies" when we get there. When I pick him up he's tired and always happy. Love that he had so much fun he just wants to sleep when he gets home. It just can't be anymore convenient for me. Great hours, 7am - 7pm, anytime for dropoff and pickups. I try to give a day or two notice, but there are times when that's impossible, and I call last minute to bring him in. PH has always been accommodating. They have a webcam to check in and see how he's doing. Staff are friendly and remember his name and they genuinely seem happy to be there. I'm at the end of my 10 pack of doggy daycare and ready to purchase another one without hesitation. read more

I will NEVER be bringing my dog Kasey back here. If you love your pet and want them to be safe and cared for then please be aware of leaving your dog here. I put my dog here for 5 nights and a grooming on the last day. When I picked her up on Saturday the nasty woman behind the counter "wanted to warn me first before bringing my dog out that there was something wrong with her eye." She made it seem like it was nothing because their Vet Tech had took a look and then proceeded to blame my dog for having bad eyes as the possible cause. She said they didn't even notice it until the groomer saw it she was being groomed that morning. When they brought her out her right eye was red and oozing with puss due to an obvious infection. I was too upset to fight with them at the time and I just wanted to get Kasey to the ER. The ER ophthalmologist said that she had a large slice in her right eyelid and it was badly infected. They obviously do not pay attention to the dogs or ensure they are healthy while staying there or someone would have noticed her relieve the injury and the puss oozing from the infection. Not only did they not notice or inform me when it occurred but then they blamed my dog for having bad eyes. I'm sorry but needing drops in the left eye due to cataract surgery does not cause a slice to the right eye lid. They took no responsibility and never apologized for my injured dog. I will never be bringing Kasey back here. read more

I'm truly saddened to have had such a horrible experience this time around because I really do love this place/the employees (and so does my pup). However, after a week long stay my dog acquired HORRIBLE kennel cough (and a $250 vet bill). If you're going to run a doggie daycare facility, each employee should be trained on kennel cough symptoms, and any other common dog illnesses for that matter. My dogs cough was so horrible that my vet said his symptoms were near pneumonia! The employees had to have seen a change in my dog in the time he was there, or at least could have had the decency to call my emergency contact to get him home and to a vet. All the Pooch Hotel could offer was a free weekend stay in the presidential suite, but honestly, I don't think I'll be back if they can't make sure their dogs are up to date on shots. read more

They gave us a link to watch our dog online during playtime. When we logged on, he was left alone in the playroom without any other dogs or any supervision. He looked lonely and sad. We have boarded our dog on many occasions. We have never had a problem before. We always get a happy/tired dog on his return. This one leans to the not-so-great side. Pros: Immediate answer to the phone when calling. Availability of being able to board our pup on short notice. Good checking of vet records. Everyone was incredibly polite and I had no issue contacting anyone or using the webcam to watch them all hang out in the play areas. Cons: That scared look your dog gives you when he had a terrible weekend and is thanking everything that you are finally there to get him. The SMELL!! It reeked of urine in the building. He reeked of urine. EVERYTHING we brought home from there reeked or urine. He got an immediate bath before I would let him near our couch or bed (Not the ideal welcome home from being away, also we bathed him shortly before going). Clearly his bed (and him too I think) had been sprayed with something to temporarily cover the scent. Didn't really work. Clearly the bed hadn't been directly urinated on, but the smell permeated everything. I'll be looking elsewhere for our dog in the future. read more

We just had our first stay at the Pooch Hotel in Newton. I knew that boarding my dogs was not going to be the most fun for my two large dogs who are pretty spoiled at this point in their lives. After visiting a few other kennels, and touring Pooch Hotel my boyfriend and I decided to board our dogs for 3 nights/4 days at Pooch Hotel. We thought that the standard room choice (with the clear doors and enough space for two dog beds) was a better option than the small crates some of the other kennels in the area use for their dogs. I used the link a few times over the course of the weekend to watch my dogs and once I actually saw them in the play room together. Since I requested that my dogs do not play with other dogs (only each other) I understood that the times of the day that they were in the room would vary. When I called after my dogs had been there for about a day the woman on the phone recognized who my dogs were and let me know that they were doing fine and that she would send me photos of the dogs the next day. I never received any photos... I assumed that my dogs were fine for the remainder of the weekend and when I picked them up was told a price that was about $100 higher than the amount I was quoted. The woman who was checking me out said that I elected for individual play (apparently this is the option where someone goes into the empty room with your dogs and plays with them). The one time I did see my dogs, there was no person in thebroom with them. I did not ask for individual play with a person, and the woman was nice enough to remove the excess charge to bring it back to the price that I was quoted. Then an employee brought my dogs out, with their two dog beds in tow, and let me know that I should feed them dinner when I get home because they had only been grazing on food all weekend. One of my dogs was fine - just a little skinny. My other dog had the whole front of her nose ripped off - you know, what happens when a dog has its faced pressed against a wire crate or kennel (also, attributed this to the fact that my dog missed me). This I found strange because I was under the impression that my dogs would be staying in one of their rooms with the clear front entry ways that had no wire crating. When the employee handed me the dog beds she let me know that one of them needed to be washed since one of my dogs had an accident. This is what troubles me to most - my dogs are very house-trained. It didn't seem like either of my dogs at all but in the interest of wanting to get home, we proceeded to the car. Once in the car I notice that my dog with the scratch on her nose, also has a large mucous ball in her eye. I have been a dog owner for years - so this sort of thing doesn't have me jumping to conclusions but at this point in the weekend I was starting to think less and less of the Pooch Hotel - or really, what happened all weekend that my dog felt stressed enough to scratch her nose open and have an accident on her dog bed - and how long did you leave a soiled dog bed in my dog's kennel for? So far, the dogs are fine overall - so I am happy with that. My dog's nose is healing and her eyes appear to be fine as well, although both dogs are a little skinny. I don't know why it is so hard to find a reliable, responsible, and reasonably priced kennel in the Boston area but it really is. Would I use the Pooch Hotel again? Maybe - but I would definitely be uneasy. read more

I had worst experience at this place. I'm so upset that I have no words to describe it! First of all, I had my dog stayed for a couple days in their "Presidential suite" which includes a 24/7 webcam service. We dropped her off at 7am, 24 hrs later I still didn't receive any emails or links to view my dog. So I called and a very rude man answered the phone while talking to his co-worker. With his "I don't really care" attitude I asked for the link and sure enough he did not send it to me. I called couple hours later and a girl named Laura gave me the link finally. Well, let's talk about their grooming service. NIGHTMARES!!! I have been taking my dog out to grooming since she was a puppy, she's now 7 and she's never been cut once. In fact, she always get praised by all the groomers on how great she behaves during grooming. When we picked her up here at Pooch, she has a big and deep cut by her inner thigh not to mention how bad my dog looks after their grooming. The girl said "I'm sorry but your dog was moving during grooming. We put some cream on her already. You can call my general manager to make a complaint." We asked for creams to apply on her at home and she once again said we already applied some cream on her. WHAT!!! Really?! This is the service my dog and I deserve for paying $75 per night at your hotel??? read more

The Pooch Hotel is not perfect but not great either. It has the potential to be great but quite a few things seem to be lacking. The facility seems pretty nice considering its all indoors. My complaint is mostly w/ the staff- when you go there most of the time there is no one at the front desk. I have often stood there for 10 mins or more. This doesnt seem particularly secure. Also when you pay for certain rooms they used to give you a link for the web cams at the facility. This was so you could watch your dog having fun. Mostly this just caused me anxiety as I saw that many times dogs were unsupervised in the play area and also my dog was not in the play area much of the time. Again some of the employees seem great some not so much. I have taken my dog there but just for a few hours... Since the camera incidents( there were two). read more

A little about my dog & me: we are that creepy attached "does that woman seriously think that dog is her kid?" kind of mom & pup duo. I've had Roscoe for almost 7 years and I never had to board him until I moved to Boston. The first time I did, it was at his vet and it was a dreary scene. Metal wire kennels, crates & blankets for beds, loud, confusing, and enclosed area. Roscoe was really weird when I came back at first. So I was really nervous to take him here, but it was the SAME PRICE and they had plexi glass doors (which may seem like no big deal, but Roscoe rubbed his nose raw on the metal wire). We dropped him off and they let me take him back to his "room." It was loud, but he had a full dog bed, his toys, and his food in the room with him (which is great because he's a grazer and will not eat if other dogs are around). They emailed me updates daily and sent me the link to the webcam in the play room so I could see him for myself. We got there around 11:15 PM to pick him up and someone was there and got us in & out quickly. A few weeks later, I had to drop him off for another weekend and he RAN to the door of the play room and was SO HAPPY to be there. That told me all I needed to know- he wasn't scared or upset that we were leaving him. He was stoked that he got to play with the other pups again. I also like that it's all inside as I am, again, a crazy helicopter mom and was afraid of him slipping his leash. The staff were all helpful explaining the processes and fees and keeping me informed. I am so excited to have found this place and will not be boarding my dog elsewhere as long as we live in Boston. read more

My dog goes to Pooch at least once a week for daycare and anytime we go away. She loves going and gets very excited when you even say the word Pooch near her. I don't know what happened to those people who have made such negative reviews. We looked at many, many boarding facilities before deciding on Pooch and they were all glorified (barely) garages. In contrast, Pooch is immaculately clean, ALWAYS has a staff member there (I thought this would be a given, but turns out most places leave the dogs alone over night!!), and allows the dogs both plenty of time to interact with one another, as well as alone time in their pen. Other places I looked at used metal crates or chain link fencing to create pens. Pooch uses clear doors/actual walls between dogs which go all the way up and are open to the ceiling - much less claustrophobic, if you ask me. BTW, I wonder if the person who wrote about Pooch employees not interacting enough with her dog knew about the extra services of personal walks or turn down service where a staff member will go in and play with your dog before bedtime. All you have to do is ask, and any request will be fulfilled. For the most part, the staff is amazing. They know my dog by sight and name every time. The off hours staff is not quite as great, unfortunately. Phone calls take a bit to get returned and messages (like please make sure my dog has a bath or gets her nails cut today) can get lost in the shuffle. But my concerns are always addressed quickly and satisfactorily with the superb manager. My one suggestion would be to have someone manning the phones at all times, even during feeding times, check ins/outs, etc. I wouldn't think it would be that hard to either have an operator or have a staff member carry a cordless phone at all times. Even given this tiny issue, I highly recommend Pooch to all fellow crazy dog owners who love their furry kid(s). read more

I had my dog stay there for half day daycare as well as boarded him for 3 days (2 nights). The staff was great - so helpful and understanding, plus - they were able to get to know my dog and his personality, which clearly makes me feel better that they spent time with him. It was just a relief to walk into a place like the Pooch Hotel and feel relaxed in the calm environment. You can peek into the play rooms and grooming areas as well as what the rooms look like. I've only boarded my dog one time before, and the stress of leaving him place where he was kenneled was very sad (even though it was a best of boston recommendation). Though it was sad to leave the pup at the Pooch Hotel, it was great to know he was being taken care of so well. I will def. take my pup back to the Pooch Hotel for day care and boarding! read more

I take my dog Amara to Pooch hotel quite a bit. The employees know her by name, and are always friendly to her when she comes in. They are very accommodating and have allowed me to pick her up a bit late when life gets crazy. One time, Amara got dirty (apparently rolled in some other dogs pee or something), and they gave her a bath, and fluffed her to perfection, at no cost! The only thing that is a little disappointing is that they claim they have spa services, but when I wanted to sign amara up for their spa services, they told me they have no groomer there anymore. I'd like to see them get a groomer again, that would be fantastic! read more

Love this place! My dog Sully always has a great time. They have camera's so I can watch him while I'm at work (hopefully my boss doesn't read this). He gets really excited as soon as we get about 2 minutes away and he know's he's going to day care. The entire staff is great. They all know exactly what they're doing, take the time to know every dog individually, and they're just really friendly. Plus the location is right off the Pike so it's really easy to get to on the way to work and on the way home from work. I would recommend this place 10/10 times. read more

I am very hesitant about leaving our very old dog anywhere when we go on vacation, especially an extended week. Our dog was happy and healthy as we viewed him on the webcam. Every day he takes two medications for pain and arthritis and I was concerned that may be forgotten. I did not need to worry. We have only met staff who truly care for the animals. Another big advantage: our flight was delayed and even at midnight we could pick up Max to take home!! I would highly recommend considering Pooch Hotel for your dog's next vacation. read more

My dog returned from a day of daycare 4/27/17 completely covered in urine - the front of all 4 paws, and his entire underbelly. Manager "Laura F." (she won't attach her name to her work, which gives you some idea of the sense of pride she has in her work) was hard-pressed to apologize, though finally did at my insistence. Still, she, and the person I'd spoken to at the desk the day before, refused to take responsibility. First they claimed that my dog must have walked through tall urine-soaked grass when I took him home, and when that didn't work, they claimed that he must have peed himself without their noticing. I did manage to get her to agree on the phone that both of these scenarios were completely ridiculous. I have photos, and this is not a dog who "peed himself." I asked the manager to explain (1) what kind of a day my dog had (and where) that he would be laying in urine, and (2) what kind of staff doesn't notice when a dog is covered in urine. No response. I was offered a free dog wash next time I go, but I will never set foot in this establishment again. I was also told that "it's a daycare and dogs can go home dirty," and if I wanted him clean, I should have opted in for the extra fee of a bath on the contract. Irate, I explained that DIRT and URINE are two different things, and asked if they would have been ok with sending a dog home with EXCREMENT all over him. No response, and again an offer to give him a free bath "next time he's there" along with a statement that she "didn't know what else she could do" for me. Dog parents beware - this is not a place to be trusted with your precious canines. Pooch Hotel used to be owned by Petco, but a little internet research showed they are now owned by Paradise 4 Paws. After two email requests to find out whom "Laura F." reports to at Paradise 4 Paws, I finally received an email address, with a note that that's whom I could contact "with this issue going forward." Shortly thereafter, I received messages from (lo and behold) the assistant general manager at Pooch Hotel Newton (the highest ranking person at this location) though up until this point, I had not been informed that there was anyone higher up than "Laura F." to speak with. I am looking forward to letting the assistant general manager, and corporate, know of this horrible experience in the hopes that procedures will change, and that no dog will ever be soaked in urine again. In the meantime, I have filed complaints with BBB and MSPCA, and am telling every dog parent I know about my pup's experience there. read more

Our dog usually boards with her dog walker so this was her first time having an overnight with strangers and she seemed to enjoy! We were nervous parents but the staff didn't mind our multiple calls to check on her eating habits and helped ease our anxieties. We board our dog there when we travel. I think the dog feels like a celebrity when she walks in, because everyone greets her by name -- like Norm in Cheers -- and seems genuinely happy to see her. I speak sincerely and from my heart: this place is sheer dog hell! No one who cares about their dogs would or could leave them here for even an hour! We have two (senior) collies and since my dog walker had an emergency and I had an errand to run, I decided to try the Pooch Hotel (which is literally down the street from where I live.) The reception area is large and quite grand and the people seemed very nice. I didn't have the time to look about until later and was appalled by what I saw. My two big darlings were shut up in what looked like a prison. The din was unbearable, and the dogs in the pens were setting up a holler to bring the roof down. One dog beside the pen my boys in was in a state of high anxiety--shivering and quaking. It broke my heart. My boys were dazed--they were sacked out on the floor like they had been condemned for life. One of my boys is really old and he couldn't get up off the slippery floor and when I helped him the assistant thought it was "funny"! The floors are all ultra bare and slick--made for quick clean up. It's a parking place for your dog. I wouldn't treat my car so badly. They never get to go out--there's a play area where they are all gathered together and this too is a completely bare and naked pen where they are all miserably herded about for a few minutes. This place is owned by PetCo and is a money making machine designed to take your dog off your hands for a buck. If you want to get rid of your dog--take it to a shelter, but please do not go to the Pooch Hotel even for an hour. It's a dog torture center. By the way: they have these "fancy" suites--glass front pens with close circuit cameras where dogs have a bed to lie on. But from the design of it you can see it's more to get a laugh out of the owners than to care about the dog's needs. So--the choice here is treat your dog like a felon or for a little more money--a zoo animal. Yikes!!! Somebody call the ASPCA! read more

In spite of the positive reviews I found and the good experience my dog Rocky had with their daycare prior to his boarding, this place ended up being a nightmare. After being there for the weekend we spent our first evening back at the doggie ER due to multiple bite wounds on his ears and face along with obvious back pain. This place did not tell us anything bad had happened to him, and when we asked them about it they all seem to be unaware as to what it could be in spite of having cameras everywhere and bathing him this morning. They are still "investigating". I understand dogs get into scuffles, things happen. I do NOT understand the Pooch Hotel choosing to not inform us of this incident and no one having any knowledge of it. The injuries were such that there was definitely bleeding, likely for more than one day. And the pain was such that they could not have given him a bath without noticing his whining and whining. Needless to say our furbaby will never set foot in any of their establishments again. Rocky's now on pain meds for his back and should be healed in a few weeks. A $350 ER bill was NOT what I expected after a $250 boarding bill. read more
