In spite of the positive reviews I found and the good experience my dog Rocky had with their daycare prior to his boarding, this place ended up being a nightmare. After being there for the weekend we spent our first evening back at the doggie ER due to multiple bite wounds on his ears and face along with obvious back pain. This place did not tell us anything bad had happened to him, and when we asked them about it they all seem to be unaware as to what it could be in spite of having cameras everywhere and bathing him this morning. They are still "investigating". I understand dogs get into scuffles, things happen. I do NOT understand the Pooch Hotel choosing to not inform us of this incident and no one having any knowledge of it. The injuries were such that there was definitely bleeding, likely for more than one day. And the pain was such that they could not have given him a bath without noticing his whining and whining. Needless to say our furbaby will never set foot in any of their establishments again. Rocky's now on pain meds for his back and should be healed in a few weeks. A $350 ER bill was NOT what I expected after a $250 boarding bill. read more

We left our 2 babies there a few years ago while on our honeymoon for a week. First off when we arrived when scheduled (6am) the girl at the counter was either sleeping or lost in space but we waited outside for 5-8 min for her to unlock the door. Secondly, we reserved one of the 2 suites in the main room because A) we trust nobody and B) it has cameras we can watch in the room 24/7 to ease our concerns. Anyhow, when we get there her dog was not only in our private room, but it was filthy and messy... Great way to check in. She said we could leave our pups with her and she'd clean up and move her dog. We refused and waited while she moved her dog and quickly cleaned up. Horrid first impression especially when paying just under ONE THOUSAND dollars for a week. For that astronomical amount of money this place should be uber professional and like the Ritz, not a casual awkwardly managed environment. Probably the first and last time we use their services. In addition, most of the people who work there are kids. read more

I have visited and toured the Pooh Hotel twice since I was looking for a place my dog might stay when I cannot take her on vacation. Both times, the employees were rude, ignorant, and disrespectful. The place is loud and smells terrible, and the play rooms are small. I never actually let my dog stay here, but I would not even recommend wasting your time visiting it. Especially after the little frenchie Boggs was mauled to death at a different Pooch Hotel, and the poor and insensitive handing of the situation by the company, I will never let my dog stay at any Pooch Hotel. read more

My dog Duke has been a friend of the Pooch Hotel for 5 years now - since I adopted him. He "visits" his friends Mike, Shelby and many others occasionally when I travel for business. I can't express how much it means to get a 'Pupdate' with my smiling pup while I'm in the midst of a crazy day. It makes my day and I show it to all my co-workers! After reading all the great reviews how could you not be pleased with pooch hotel? I'm very disappointed. My dog is a very easy dog to care for and has been to several boarders and with us being new to the area I had high exceptions for this place. Such a disappointment that they can't follow simple instructions to care for my dog when that's what I'm paying them to do. Dog wasn't given any of her treats that were instructed for her to get, came home with over half of the food I left and when we got home from picking her up she had another dogs collar on. I've been a customer of Pooch Hotel for the last 3 years. I was pleased at first but I had an issue with my most recent visit and I won't got back. I always liked Pooch Hotel because of their flexible hours - I travel by plane often and need to drop/off pick-up after regular business hours. I used to be able to do this for a standard daily rate but they changed their pricing structure to charge for late pick-up. In my most recent visit I found this out after I picked me dog up! No one bothered to inform me when I dropped my dog off, nor documenting it anywhere like their website. I didn't find this out until I picked up the dog, and apparently it was an hour after what they said was "late pick-up" and was charged an extra day! If I knew this I wouldn't have rushed over at 10pm at night to get my dog! When I complained they said it was because of their recent merger with Paradise 4 Paws and they couldn't offer me any discount despite the fact that I wasn't aware of this change. In addition, they're not affiliated with Petco anymore so you can't get loyalty points. What also put me off, is that when I went to pick up my dog the person on site took a long time to find her. She too didn't mention anything about a late fee. It made me nervous that she was left alone with the whole kennel and didn't know what was going on! I don't know if there's new management with the merger, but I'm really disappointed in the change and pricing plan and going to find an alternative boarding place. read more

We have been a customer of this Pooch Hotel location for 3 years. There have been several bumps in the past but generally we were very satisfied with both the day care and bordering services. We are especially grateful for the video monitoring system and until recently, never gave any thought to how the dogs were cared for during most hours when the video link is not available. First to note, the GM of this facility Tara, has recently left. When ever a GM changes at a pet care facility, beware... that is our experience from the last 25+ years and Pooch at Newtonville is living up to our past experiences around periods of management change. Second, make sure the facility is not overbooked during high periods of high use -- overbooking leads to observed neglect, cramping of the dogs in quarters with no apparent rationale for how they are grouped and of course long periods when mess is not cleaned up -- all observable on video. Failure to return phone calls (especially when we were oversees and did not have phone access many days) is inexcusable (we use a local number with forwarding for local vendors to call when we are away). Most of all the management denies, blames others (the dogs!!), and can not articulate among any of them the same story about what indeed was happening when the video link was down during daytime hours, why the dogs were separated as they were, etc.... Pooch has a great facility and a very good reputation but our dogs are like our children, too many excuses and arrogant attitude make us very suspicious of just how well our dogs are being cared for. read more

We have a Boston Terrier who has more energy than we could sometimes handle. My mother in law was very ill in May and we needed to get him out for a while as his energy agitated her. He had been to the Hotel several times before and we loved everything about his experiences there. The place is immaculate and the staff is very friendly and during the last time he was there, were very understanding of our situation at home. The best thing is that when he comes home, he is exhausted! We get a quiet day or two out of him after even a one day stay. We brought him down to stay on my MIL's 100th birthday party as the house was going to be crowded. We had planned to pick him up after everyone left, but we were pooped out ourselves! They were more than happy to keep him overnight and when we picked him up, he was a happy little man. He seems to love being able to play with all size dogs and the staff has been funny when telling us about his exploits during his various stays, and you can tell they get a kick out of him. I am here alone with him right now and looking for a break and plan to drop him off for daycare a couple of days this week. They are very careful of health issues and I have called our vet to fax his health records before I can bring him in. As far as we are concerned, Pooch hotel is top notch in every way possible! read more

The pooch hotel is great! Our Bernese (Duncan) waits by the door in the morning, hoping that he will get to spend a day at the pooch hotel. Duncan has been going to the pooch hotel since we got him at 2 months old. The people at the pooch hotel have always cared for him with kindness and enthusiasm. Duncan definitely gets to play a lot at the pooch hotel because he falls right asleep when he gets home from a day of playing there. We are especially grateful to the friendly people who work at the pooch hotel; they genuinely seem to enjoy all kinds of dogs. It's nice to get the sense that the people there really like your dog- no matter how rambunctious. read more

We took our two dogs to the Pooch Hotel because we had a bit of an emergency and needed to board them for a few hours. The first impression was good - spacious and clean lobby area with very friendly staff. Unfortunately, when we returned to pick them up a few hours later, and got a complete tour, the impression was quite different. Yes, the cleanliness was still there, all over, but it was a kind of clinical cleanliness at the expense, rather than the service of the dogs. This was not one of the "play periods," so the dogs were locked up in glass-doored cells that were completely bare. There was a terrible din, as many of dogs were clearly not happy with their situations and barking uproariously. Our two seemed traumatized by the situation - one was huddled in a corner, so shut down that he didn't notice when we came inside to get them. The other was trembling and anxious. We were also distressed to learn that the dogs were kept totally indoors at all times. The play areas were large enough, but still we felt that the whole thing must be claustrophobic, at least for dogs like ours, who are used to being taken outside several times a day. The whole environment, clean as it is, seems barren and forbidding, designed for minimizing corporate expenses rather than the comfort and well-being of dogs. We will not submit our dogs to this experience again. read more

Pooch Hotel has new management which has changed the fee structure. We picked our dog up after one night of boarding and were charged $140 due to newly implemented early check-in and check-out fees. Over the past several months the staff have not given us accurate information about the fee changes and the new management does not appear to be transparent in notifying customers of the additional fees. Raising rates by 150% was quite a surprise to us and we hope this feedback will prompt changes. We are so disappointed in Pooch Hotel. read more

We had an awful experience with our dog on her first visit for boarding. We received no communication during her stay, despite being repeatedly told by staff that we would get email updates. When we asked about it at pick up, the staff offered no explanation as to why we had never gotten updates (and just confirmed that they did in fact have the correct email address on file). When we went to pick her up, she had lost significant weight (likely from not eating, but again, we didn't get any feedback from staff regarding how her stay went, only an empty food container), and were told that our dog who has never once had an accident in the house had soiled her bed. She's continued to have diarrhea at home. At pick-up, the staff seemed frazzled and overwhelmed by the number of dogs on site. We will absolutely not be using the Pooch Hotel again. Highly disappointed in the services they delivered in comparison to what they promised. Worth noting that our dog has boarded without issue at other places. read more

We NEVER leave our doggie family member with anyone. Yes, we've become one of "those" people, and we didn't even like dogs before him! So, when we needed to go out of town for a couple of days and had to leave our little boy behind we searched for a safe place that would love our beloved pooch. My daughter watched him on her iphone the entire time we were away and it gave her such comfort to know he was being looked after and well taken care of. At one point she could see that he was not comfortable as he was sleeping on the floor and would not go onto the bed. She called the staff who immediately put a bed on the floor and placed his blanket on top. He was comfortable after that and my daughter was able to watch the entire time. If you love your pooch you will love the Pooch Hotel. read more

The three stars are for some of the consistent policies of PH: no need to make a reservation during the week, good balance of play and rest for your dog, owner convenience. But my dog was stuck in a cage and kept away from the playgroup, which, by the way, I was paying $40 for. Anyone can stick their dog in a crate at home. Why would you pay that much to have your dog stuck in a cage at PH. I dropped my nonneutered dog off in the morning at PH and specifically questioned the person on duty about whether he would be in the playgroup. Yes, was the answer, but if there is excessive "humping" he will receive timeouts, and then returned to the group. When I picked my dog up in the afternoon, he had been in a pen most of the afternoon. I was told an entirely different policy: nonneutered males only get to play with people care assistants on their break and never with other dogs. In other words, nonneutered males are kept in cages all day unless you request ( and probably pay for a little human playtime.) A completely different policy from the one I was told in the morning. My dog won't be going back to such as dishonest place. read more

Pooch Hotel has consistently over the last year and a half taken great care of Dakota! He can get a little hyper at times and they are comfortable putting him in time out. I enjoy the webcam access and the spa services available during his stay. Prices went up recently so we bring him a little less, but I still think they're worth it! read more

Pooch Hotel Newton is a great solution for doggie day care. The company has mastered the Science of providing a healthy, clean, stimulating environment for dogs. And the staff excels at the Art of taking care of dogs. The staff demonstrate every day that they truly "love dogs". My two little rescue dogs were shy at first but now wag their tails every morning when we show up. The staff is welcoming and helpful. I feel very comfortable leaving my dogs here. I am impressed with how Petco runs their stores, and their oversight for Pooch shines through. Pooch is a great place for dogs -- and humans! read more

Do not leave your dog here !!! If you love your pet . First time customer horrible first impression. Dropped my dog off Friday evening at 5:00 PM person came over and ripped the dog out of my hands brought the dog upstairs in an elevator. I turned around and asked where is my dog? I would like to say goodbye to my dog. Then I proceeded to ask about setting up the camera so I could watch the dog while I was on vacation my response was you have to go outside because the Wi-Fi is no good and access it in your car. I went outside tried to access it it would not work. I went back inside said it's not working the person behind the counter who look like she was on crack said I'm going to quit this job I can't stand it any longer. Unfortunately we had to we ourYorkie with them. All week the camera did not work correctly we did not get to see our dog as promised we called no one returned our phone calls until five days later I got a text saying she is not eating what should we do? When we did get the camera to work we saw they put her bed up on another bed so she did not have access to it. I have warned friends at work who have a looked in to leaving their dog here told them don't they don't care they put a tiny 5 pound dog with big dogs did not see if she was OK never call back then they decided to give me a refund of $150My bill was 700 do not leave your dog with these people.Also they would not let me see where the dog would be sleeping I asked if I could come And see where she would be sleeping they told me know very shady this was our first experience boarding a dog first time customer and this is how we been treated just horrible. read more

Pooch Hotel is a great place. I have left our dog there in both the least expensive and most expensive rooms and he was happy in both. It is spotless and doesn't smell. Max is happy when he arrives and also happy when he leaves (meaning he doesn't seem angry or sullen when I pick him up, he is in a good mood.) The staff is very caring. read more

I was in town for the weekend to participate in the Runner's World Heartbreak Hill Half Marathon Festival and didn't want to leave my dog cooped up in a hotel room while I ran. The Pooch Hotel was just 2.5 miles from the start which was important to me because after my 10k race I had just one hour to pick up my dog and bring her back for the dog run. Even more important was 24 hour service! This meant they had NO PROBLEM with me dropping my dog off before my races on Saturday and Sunday between 0500 and 0600 (before their daycare hours at 0700). I paid a little more than I'm used to but the 24/7 service made it worth it for me. I took a short tour of the place and everything looked very clean and animals were being monitored by staff in all open play areas. The first day I dropped my dog off she barked and pulled at her leash as I walked out. I really felt bad but the second day she walked right in and didn't seem to even pay attention to my leaving which lets me know she enjoys her time there! When I picked her up the staff was very nice and told me which dogs she played with/what she did. The only down side I can think of is that there is no outdoor play area. If there were a Pooch Hotel near me I'd use it all the time! read more

Convenient location and open great hours. It lacks and outdoor playspace for the daycare/boarding, but the hours are awesome. Daycare open until 7 pm and pickup for boarding is 24/7 which is nice if you want your dog after a long trip. My dog Mochi goes there once every couple weeks when the cleaners come and it's very easy to drop off and pick up. read more

The Pooch Hotel is our go-to place for our energetic wheaten terrier. She always comes come happy and TIRED! I love dropping her off and seeing her enthusiasm - she knows the door to drag me to that leads to the play area and she greets everyone there like an old friend. The folks working there are always accommodating when we need them to be flexible on pickup/drop off times. We've taken her elsewhere, but nothing has ever compared with the complete package we get here - reasonable prices, excellent care, clean, and consistent! read more

After reading some of these negative reviews I was hesitant to leave my pup Addy at Pooch but I was in a jam and it was only a couple of nights. Good thing because Pooch was awesome! My dog had never been in a doggie daycare situation before, my normal sitter will have just 4 dogs at one time. The staff was awesome, so understanding and said they'd feel her out with the other dogs. When I left her there she was nervous, but when they walked her back I could tell that she was already feeling more comfortable with the staff. When I picked her up, she was the happiest girl, not only to see me, but because I could tell she had a great time. The staff said she loved doggie daycare, she really thrived with the other dogs and had a blast. I peeked a few times at her on the doggie cam which was a big hit with my family! She slept so well the night we returned home. I'm so happy to have found another options for her to stay. It's hard to find good places these days, but Pooch was great! read more

The only thing that truly matters to me if I board my dog is his safety and comfort. I trust this place very much so and would bring my dog back whenever I need to board him again. I was a bit upset that was charged 5 hours overage from noon (i arrived at 4:03) and that sucks but they still took good care of him. I a bit upset about these negative reviews! Of course kennels aren't going to smell amazing! The reason I brought my pup here was because it was the most pleasant smelling of all of them. And the staff are great. Laura (i think) is who really sold me on the place with her kindness. Also, how can you expect every staff working in a kennel to be chipper and absolutely loving the job 100% of the time when they're cleaning poop and pee all day hearing constant barking! Come on people. My dog is SO social now from all the puppy play time, and very happy. He's a new rescue and had difficulty understanding how to be a dog (lol) and now he presents as totally acclimated to the dog world. This place is great. Boom. read more

I would rather sleep in the car with my dog than kennel him, ever! But last Saturday night we had an emergency that required us putting Tattoo at the Pooch Hotel. I called them about 8:30 PM asking for help, and Mike called me back in less than ten minutes. Using google maps we got there easily in about 13 minutes (although I think they should have a sign at the corner), and things were terrific. Our yellow lab was at ease in the space, the receptionists made him feel at home, and he was happy with the doggie cookies at the counter. There were 3 humans there at 9:15 on a Saturday night, each one seeming to love their job and care about the dogs. The whole place is spacious and clean, and the kennel with the plexiglass front made Tattoo feel at ease. We picked him up the next morning while he was in the play space and saw that all the dogs were relaxed, having fun, and were well tended, and our dog was having a great time. I was so relieved, and would put him there again in a heartbeat (although it is a little pricey). Thanks, guys! read more

I was not happy with the two times I brought my Boston Terrier to the Pooch Hotel. First, unlike the other reviews I read, the place didn't smell, and neither did my dog at the end of the day. The webcam is spotty and doesn't work most of the time. They told me after the first day, that it was a fluke. One the second day, they told me it works sometimes for some people. They also mentioned that they've been with the same service for 5 years. So, they keep blaming it on me and my devices, and wouldn't own up to the problem. That all left me with a feeling of distrust. Although the people are very friendly dog people, they seem cranky and not happy with management. Not a good sign. This is the priciest doggy daycare in town, but their service doesn't match up. They kennel the dog from 11-1 and then again after 3pm until you pick them up. So, my dog spends more time in a glass cage, rather than playing with the other dogs. The last daycare I went to, he came home exhausted. At this one, he isn't tired at all, and comes home peppy and very thirsty. I won't go back. If you love your dog like he's your baby, you won't be happy here. I gave them a second chance, but I won't o back a third time. I'm very disappointed. read more

This place was fantastic. I am one of those crazy people who is obsessed with my dog, and I always am worried sick when I have to board him, but I will take him to the Pooch Hotel for the rest of his life. I left him at the Pooch Hotel in Newton over the Christmas holiday, and they were so good to him, and me! They were always very pleasant when I called to check on him, and they always knew exactly who he was and what he had been up to that day. When a blizzard delayed my return from out of state by two whole days, they gladly held onto my little guy for me with no hassle. They were able to tell me about his eating habits and the friends he made. He had soiled the blanket I sent with him after they had already washed it once, and they offered to wash it again for me even though I was there to pick him up and could easily wash it at home! Toby came home very tired from his group playtime and surprisingly clean (anyone who has ever owned a corgi when there is mud and snow outside understands how impossible that is)! Every employee I interacted with was incredibly friendly and enthusiastic about their job. I had a good feeling about the place when I dropped Toby off, and I feel even better after picking him up. I really like that there is someone there 24hrs a day just in case something happens. read more

I like other people on yelp saw the low star recent reviews but had a great experience before boarding my dog so figured I'd try Pooch Hotel one last time on a last moment emergency. (I did not know I needed boarding until the night before) I called late (after 7pm) expecting to catch the voicemail and then getting a call back at 7am the next day, a woman answered and set me all up for my stay, even re described what his daily routine would be for me, the next afternoon I came in and met Collen along with Haley who helped me so much, they had already received my vet records via fax and I did not have to do a thing! When I later on could not sign on to the webcams Collen fixed the issue and sent it back to me within 20 minutes and apologized for the inconvenience, along with the new passcode she sent an adorable picture of my dog "waiting for mom to peak in" while he laid on the adorable bed they set up in his room. The staff at the desk when I picked up told me all his adventures while boarding. I will come back again and again for the wonderful service I always receive. read more

I have grave concerns about this business. I needed day care for a foster dog in rescue due to neglect and abuse. I was promised that she would get individual playtime because she still has fear aggression with other dogs. The first day, she came home desperately thirsty. I chalked it up to stress. On the second day I had figured out how to work the webcams. I kept an eye on them and never saw her in the playrooms so I asked if she had been given playtime when I picked her up. The response from the young woman at the desk made it clear that she was fibbing. First she said "Yes, about 20 minutes ago," and then added that there had been a morning session only after further questioning. And when I mentioned that I had seen other dogs standing alone in the play area, she said they charge extra to have a human interact with the dog! The rescue organization would have paid for this if they had told us, but it is beyond the point. Apparently Pooch Hotel's idea of day care is to leave the dog in its "suite" all day with one or two trips to a playroom for peeing and pooping. Unacceptable. And then they brought the dog to me. She was soaked in urine. I will never take a dog there again. So frustrating! This is a great concept for a business, and they turned it into dog jail. read more

I have mixed feelings about the Pooch Hotel, having never boarded my dog here. I went in for a tour about a week ago, looking for a place to bring my lab, and was initially very impressed. The staff at the front desk was knowledgeable and cheery, the building was clean, and the areas for the dogs were very nice. However, when I looked in on the "play area," I saw a large bald man and a blond girl in with the dogs. The blond girl walked out, and as soon as she left, the man took out his phone and walked to a corner of the room, thoroughly ignoring the dogs. When one of them barked, he yelled at the dog and stomped his feet, as if he was mad at the dog for barking! He seemed very angry, and even kicked (and I mean KICKED) a dog in the side. I saw this within maybe ten minutes, and was told that the dogs spend over 5 hours in play every day. I can't speak to the other employees, but if this is the attitude they all have towards their dogs, I most certainly would not bring my pets here, and I was disappointed that this one worker ruined what seemed like a nice facility. read more

Love the Pooch Hotel!! We've been bringing our dog Xander since he was a puppy nearly 2 years ago which coincided with when they first opened, perfect timing! The staff are friendly and visibly great with the dogs. They get to know your pets too which is comforting to know they pay attention and care. The space is vast compared to the other dog day care facilities in the area which is really important - we bring our dog there so he can run around instead of being stuck alone at home. Buying day care passes in bulk is a great deal and make their quality daycare on par price-wise with the competition - more for less! It's also a nice perk that the dogs are boarded in larger spaced areas versus typical cages - my dog loved his crate as a puppy so he would be comfortable but just a nice enhancement to consider. And the fact they have webcams is a simple yet fantastic technology push ahead of most other daycares - a win all around! Highly recommended! read more
