Hidden gem!!!!! I can't say enough good things about the Pooch. Support local businesses!!! It's a small operation but the staff is super friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and they know how to handle all types of dogs. Tony is the one I would communicate with, and he is the absolute BEST. Would communicate via text and always bend over backwards to accommodate my crazy schedule and infinite service requests (I lived in Austin and would try to book appts last minute every time I'd drive to Houston). They ask specific questions to really ensure you are getting quality service, while putting your dogs at ease during the process. I even asked one time if they had medicated [my dog] Gary because he HATED getting brushed or anyone touching his paws, but they just know how to calm them down. He has a flat coated retriever long, fluffy unruly coat which mattes easily so required some time and extra attention. Every time I picked him up after a full service - nails, bath, cut, gland extraction, etc - he was smiling ear to ear like he was just so happy to be there... My dog, a furry 1yr old Sheepadoodle went to this shop three times. What was alarming the last time was the over sensitivity in one ear, he was in pain after the service. Two days after when I looked inside I found a wet and rotting piece of cotton inside the ear. Photos attached. Another alarming issue were the trimmer cuts in his belly which I had to use disinfecting solution for. I expressed my concern and they were responsive, but got away from any responsibility arguing that if an ear infection were to suddenly appear it would be rather a pre-existing condition and not a cotton that stayed there for just a couple of days. When I picked him up the last time I asked why he was so shy they said that he did not like the dryer and the trimmer and showed "signs of aggression", which is a huge red flag because it is totally incongruent with his mellow behavior, either when I do it and when other groomers have done it. Another bothersome issue is how long they take to groom the dogs, I would drop him a 10am and get the message to pick him up at 6pm or so, even though they close at 5pm. After seeing all these red flags I concluded that he was just mishandled and traumatized. In general I had been satisfied with the result but nothing truly differentiating. PetSmart and other local groomers do just as good, and Pooch in the City is also quite expensive so I always struggled to find the value in it. This shop is just overrated and overpriced. read more

Support your local businesses because it is totally worth it! Before finding Pooch, I've always gone to Petsmart or Petco to get my dog's nails trimmed and occasionally hair cut. However, my experiences with them are always oscillating; some days their services are great, others it's mediocre. As I continued to take my dog to either Petsmart and Petco for nail clippings, I noticed my dog would be limping slightly the next day. I was so concerned that I had taken him to the vet to get his front legs checked in case there were joint problems (spent $300+ to find out there wasn't). An acquaintance of mine told me about Pooch. I stopped by for my dog's nail clipping just to see if their service was any good. The price was the same as Petsmart and Petco, so I thought, why not? Turns out, it was the best decision for my dog. The store is small but very welcoming and homey. The dogs boarding there seemed so happy and even game to greet me. The lady who was working at the time was very polite and greeted me immediately. The process was quick and I was out the door in 10 min. The next day, I noticed that my dog wasn't limping at all. NONE! It was then I knew that the workers at Petco and Petsmart were most likely too harsh in handling my dog's feet whereas Pooch was careful and gentle. I was impressed! So I decided to come back to get my dog a hair cut just to see how it goes. The price was, again, the same was Petsmart and Petco, so why not? I loved how another lady who worked there at this time asked me specific questions of how I wanted the hair to be cut. Questions that extended beyond the usual "How much off? An inch or two?". She asked about things like shaping of the face and the ears and the hair length of the tail. I told her I would like it if she reduced the mustache and beard and also cleared the hair away from the eyes. She delivered every request I made. It just shows how much Pooch's employees actually cares for the dogs that come in. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING YOUR SOGS HERE! SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES! I really hope this place withstands the challenges from Covid-19. The gentle care they give to the dogs is something that I want my dog to continue to experience forever when he gets his nails cut or hair trimmed. read more

I've been bringing my six year old schnauzer here for over a year and I can't say enough good things about these guys! My dog hates baths, but it's clear to tell that he hates them a little less if it means he gets to hang out with his favorite people at Pooch in the City all day. They even let him hang out in the yard/playroom/around the shop if I'm running late to keep him from being locked in the kennel all day. They do a wonderful job grooming my kiddo, his haircuts always exceed expectations and he's always happy when I pick him up. What's awesome is that We got the full groom for $60 and everything came out PERFECT plus they can keep updated on my dog through the day while he was there ! I have been taking my Labradoodles to Pooch in the City for several years. The original owner retired recently and I was worried how the new crew would do- in a word, BETTER!!!! They don't even come close to the kind of service Pooch in the city provided. They are the best.
