As a pet owner, we are finicky people. However, Stephan has gone about and beyond in taking care of my "baby" I highly recommend MoCo Pet Sitters of Gaithersburg. It has taken me about a month to be able to write this review so that I can try to be as objective…read moreas possible, and to dissipate the anger I felt upon my return home. The good news is -- my dog was still alive when we returned from a cruise. Stephan provided in-home care in our home the greater Palm Springs area while we were away. Because our dog appeared to be okay, we give 2 stars ("it could have been better") instead of 1 ("Not good"). (Frankly, I'm being generous). That's the good news. The bad news is: * Our home was pristine when we left. It was dirty when we returned home. Filthy, really. Off-white rug was strewn with lawn debris and a visible track of foot traffic and dirt appeared where it had never been before between the sofa and the back door. The kitchen, where cooking had occurred, had not been wiped up, dishes in the sink. The sofa was disheveled and 'lived-in' with an odor that required steam cleaning to remove. Our ordinarily pristine home was in general disarray in every room, and the house emitted a mysterious, but pungent smell. There appeared to have been no attempt whatsoever to clean up his own mess or to straighten the house in anticipation of our return. * We came home a couple of hours earlier than expected to find not only a home we had to re-clean in order to resume normal life, but multiple windows and doors open and the A/C on (presumably to air out the mysterious stench). * The cost for this service, requiring up-front payment, was nearly double what others charge in the area, but we (perhaps stupidly) believed the many 5-star ratings. We did not receive 5-star service. * The pre-prepared and measured food for our dog's daily meals was only partially consumed. * Our housekeeper came by at her scheduled time (by accident, forgetting we had cancelled her visit during our trip), but was not able to enter since no one answered the door, despite the petsitter telling us that he 'never left the house' or our dog alone. * Our dog, who is normally very friendly and approachable, appeared skittish in photographs during our trip -- tail down, ears back, avoiding rather than approaching and playful. I noted it during one text exchange with the petsitter and was told that 'this dog is NOT scared.' I beg to differ. I know my dog. * The patio plants, which we agreed would be watered daily (desert), were bone dry and wilted when we arrived, requiring immediate attention, although the hose was stretched across the lawn, presumably from some earlier use while we were gone. * In addition, the petsitter had many demands for his own comfort and convenience, which were 100% provided. The same courtesy was not returned to us, even though we discussed very clear expectations for both our dog and our home prior to our departure. * Our planned departure for a cruise was delayed for about an hour because the petsitter locked himself out of his car in the street, requiring a plan to avoid having his car towed. We allowed him to park in our garage vs. the guest parking lot. Rather than making our departure and trip less stressful, we found ourselves being more stressed because of the petsitter's own challenges, both before and during the trip and especially after. We had several conversations and a couple of site visits prior to the trip to introduce Stephan to our dog and to clarify the assignment(s). I wrote a detailed list of Q&A to guide any questions that might have arisen, including providing multiple vets and emergency contacts. I had reservations about some of my observations pre-departure, but we had already paid a non-refundable deposit of $500 and we were out of time to arrange anyone else. At a cost of $1500 per week for housesitting/pet sitting, I expected far better and more and got substantially worse and less than what we had discussed and reasonably expected. I'm just glad our dog was generally okay. Hence, 2 stars instead of 1. I wish I could report a 5-star experience and recommend this company and sitter to others. Unfortunately, I cannot.

I highly recommend Perfect Pair Animal Care…read more We plan our vacations around Erika's availability because we are so happy with the care she provides for our animals. We have four dogs with significant fear-related behavior issues and two cats. On her first visit Erika sent us a picture of our most fearful dog happily cuddled up on her lap. It was truly remarkable. On our last trip one of the cats developed a health issue and Erika took him to the vet twice, gave him the necessary medicine (no-easy feat) and kept us up-to-date throughout. Erika is well-educated and experienced in handling the emotional and physical needs of animals; she has great judgement; and she's completely dependable. Since finding Erika I've actually been able to relax on vacations knowing that my cats and dogs are safe, relaxed, and well-cared for. I work with behaviorally-challenged dogs and cats for a living and have had the opportunity to recommend Erika to many of my clients and colleagues. Everyone who has used her has reported back with great experiences. Perfect Pair is the gold standard in pet care.

We took our cat in for her senior exam last year and after the results, our doctor discussed her coming in either in December or January of this year. We got an estimate for the scope of work in early December, which was $425. I called in early January, after the holidays, and the first available appointment that could meet our schedule was in February, and nobody told us that our cat needed to be medicated so they could get a good blood pressure reading. We had to reschedule and brought her in yesterday. The doctor was thorough and we chatted, and then I left and went to pay the bill. The bill was $756 and when I questioned it, the person checking me out just shrugged her shoulders. I got home, looked at the receipt with the breakdown and the estimate and things were added without our knowledge or consent. I then emailed them that I wanted our records after the blood work results were in as we were switching vets. Beware! **Update** I spoke with them and we agreed to a partial refund of what we suggested. The process was still very friendly and mutually respectful and I have updated this back to 4 stars. Just make sure you are read the estimate and make sure they stick to it or at least update you on why it needs to change. We are very upset we needed to switch vets as our cats loved/love it there but sadly it is out of principle.

I was recommended Old Towne Pet Resort by a coworker, and I will now be recommending them too!…read more I called to make a 2-week dog boarding reservation 30-days in advance for the peak Christmas season, and they miraculously had availability at one of their three locations (Bethesda). The gentleman on the phone was so helpful and informative and made it easy. When it came time to drop my dog off the staff were so friendly and kind, and they were extremely attentive and took detailed notes of all the items I brought with my dog and any of her quirks (e.g., severe allergies, doesn't play well with others, etc.). The space was so clean and large. I felt very reassured dropping her off as I went on vacation. When I came back to get her, the staff was helpful and, again, extremely kind and talked about her time there with details that were definitely unique to my dog. She was happy, healthy, clean, and well groomed. All of her toys and leash items were accounted for and they even ran a toy out to my car that they had forgotten in her kennel. Bottom line: 5/5 do recommend!

Two years after boarding my dog at Olde Towne Pet Resort, I am still dealing with health issues…read morecaused during her stay. I am not one to complain, especially in a public forum, but the lack of care my animal received was egregious. During her stay, my dog experienced an ear infection so severe that she developed acute dermatitis from scratching. The sore or 'hot spot' on her cheek was unmissable when we picked her up, but The staff tried to pass it off as if everything was normal. The groomer who prepared her for pickup had the gall to pretend he didn't notice a massive weeping sore on her face. For her condition to have reached this point, she would have needed to scratch constantly for days and not be noticed by the staff that were supposed to be spending 'cuddle time' with her daily. As anyone who has ever had a pet with an ear infection can attest, the behavior is far from subtle. Any remotely observant and competent person would catch it. Worse, I reviewed the update photos that were sent throughout her stay, and red spot on her cheek is visible in every shot and getting progressively worse. This means that the staff overseeing playtime let an animal run around with blood on her face for days without investigating. This is utterly unacceptable. My dog also came home with constant bouts of diarrhea that we assumed this might have been a bug she picked up in boarding, but it turned out to be colitis. Our veterinarian confirmed that this was most likely stress-induced. It has made me wonder what trauma my dog experienced while being boarded that would cause her to develop a permanent bowel condition. Her colitis has caused her enormous suffering and I am still trying to manage the condition years later. As others have reported here, the staff did not feed my animal the way they were directed, and returned what was supposed to be an empty bag of dog food to us half-full. So to recap, they underfed my dog in addition to neglecting an ear infection and resultant severe, pus-weeping skin infection, then tried to pass my pet off to me as if nothing happened. Whatever they did or neglected to do for her led to a chronic bowel condition that has rendered her partially incontinent. I was appalled by the dishonesty I experienced from the staff, but decided at the time to let it go, and simply swore never to give Olde Towne my business again. I figured my dog would bounce back, but she didn't. Reflecting that she has never been the same and that she experienced pain and neglect at the hands of the people I entrusted her with, I feel the need to let other pet owners know what they might be in for if they board their animals here.
