Our cats, Izzy and Shai, have their routine appointments at Boyd's and we've always been very pleased with the care provided to them. Boyd's has a calm and comforting atmosphere with a spacious waiting area and a friendly front desk staff. Appointments run on time!! Yay!! No long waits with cats in carriers wanting OUT. NOW! Their exam rooms are *always* immaculately clean...the veterinarians handle these two squirmy boys gently while undertaking thorough exams, giving them vaccinations and making helpful suggestions to keep our ornery critters healthy. The only place nearby I could find that would board my diabetic cat while I was away on a trip. They did a good job. The staff seemed to know all about my cat, who is a bit of a character, when I went in to pick him up -- so it was obvious they had spent some time getting to know him. They also did a routine test which revealed a problem that I was unaware of. All in all a very positive experience. read more

I would need to agree with Audrey D in my experience was not comfortable and seemed more about me asking questions and the lady vet avoiding or dismissing me. I am extremely disappointed with this office. My family has been bringing my mom's dog here for over 7 years, so we are not new patients. We took her in on Saturday for an X-ray, blood work, and a general checkup. We were told that same day that she has fluid in her heart and lungs and that this is a critical condition. The doctor said that by Monday or Tuesday the test results would be back and that they would call me immediately so she could start medication right away. It is now days later, and despite calling every single day, I get the same response from the front desk: "The doctor will call you soon." No call. No update. No urgency. I paid $999.00 for this visit (not including medication, if they ever call me to pick it up), yet my mom's dog could literally die while we are waiting. The lack of communication and concern is unacceptable. This experience has been incredibly upsetting, and this will be the last time we bring her to this office. read more

We have been seeing Dr. John Wesson for a few years now. We have 2 Pembroke Welsh Corgis who are generally healthy. When they come in for their physical John takes the time to talk with you, explain anything you have questions about. Most importantly, I have never felt like he was doing more than is needed. We are trying to improve out dogs dental health (they have had some teeth removed). He gave me a website that lists products reccomended by what is effectively the "Doggie ADA". He could have easily said here are some products I can sell you but, he didn't and never has. We do get their presecriptions (Flea and Tick) through him but his prices are fair. The real kicker was this past weekend. One of our dogs ate something that caused EXTREME diahrea. I have never seen anything like it. We were out of town. I called 5 local vets and non could see us. I called Dr. Wessons office and they said he was in a procedure but would call us when he got out. He called promptly and left a message. I called him right back. After talking with him about what was going on he didn't seem too concerned. He gave us some things to watch out for that would indicate the dog needed to be rushed to a vet. He suggested some treatments for the dog as well. We followed his instructions and the dog is fine. What were we charged for this? $0. Think about this, what would your human Dr. charge you for a phone consult. We are ust raging fans of the service/care that Dr. John Wesson and his tream provide. Went in for a rabies booster and left having paid $179.36 for the shot and two pills. Dr. Boyd's charged $25.36 for 2 pills. The pills cost 18 cents per pill but Dr. Boyd's adds a hidden $25 "dispensing fee." The "dispensing fee" was on top of the visit fee. 30 of the same pills retail at $4.20 on Chewy. Spoke on the phone with Liz, the manager, and she confirmed that Dr. Boyd's charges $25 for pills worth 36 cents. And then she hung up on me. read more

My dog has plenty of health problems and we have been to numerous vets for her, but Dr. Boyd's is 100% the best. My cat Ginger was a difficult pet, sickly but feisty, but Dr. Boyd's staff took her under their wing and gave her great care. They helped me to deal with her hyperthyroidism and anxiety, and they never let her down. I boarded her there regularly and remember a kind employee telling me that "Ginger really is a sweetheart when you get to know her." I always felt like she was in the best hands when she stayed at Dr. Boyd's. When Ginger's health declined steeply at the end of her life, Drs. Murray and Wesson (and Steph and Courtney) helped me with the difficult end-of-life choices that Ginger needed. They were dedicated to helping us both. I'd recommend Dr. Boyd's for anyone who wants kind, individual care for their family members with fur. read more

I dropped my dog off for a brief stay while I went out to dinner with family. I told the staff that they would need to feed my dog and give my dog her insulin. I provided a pre-measured portion of her food and a pre-measured syringe of her insulin. My dog is insulin-dependent and receives two shots per day. When I picked her up, I was charged $50 for her daycare and administering her insulin. When I got her home and unpacked her stuff, I noticed her syringe was still full where I placed it in her bag. My dog was never given her insulin at Dr. Boyd's. This made me question if she had to spend the night, would they have neglected to administer her insulin? They could have caused serious health damage to my dog. I called the next morning to complain and the manager only offered a refund for them not administering her insulin ($10). I expected a full $50 refund and felt that this was the least they should do. I have been a longtime client of Dr. Boyd's, and for my dog to be treated this way is just appalling and disheartening. (I had to give a star rating, because zero was not an option) read more

We just had our second puppy Leaf spayed by Dr. Wesson and we can't be happier. He is so caring and compassionate and takes an abundance of caution to make sure Leaf didn't suffer any pain. He took the time to explain every step of the way and the schedule of medications for her recovery. My wife was thoroughly impressed with the level of support and the detailed updates from start to finish. Dr. Wesson also provided a follow-up call Sunday morning just to check on Leaf. I also was pleasantly surprised to find some of the charges were taken off the estimate due to having the Wellness Plan. Very thorough, compassionate, trustworthy and supportive sums it up regarding the staff at Dr. Boyd's. An absolute model of excellence. We love Dr. Boyd's. The Vets and staff are amazing. My only complaint is that we recently made a reservation to board our two dogs, and we were never told a deposit could later be requested. Our reservation was made two-months ago for May 13th through May 21st, and we just received a message that they needed a deposit from us for the Memorial Day weekend. We called and explained that we are a military family and traveling to California which is costly, and our pets are not staying during the Memorial Day weekend. The staff kindly apologized and stated they just received the dates of what they consider the Memorial Day holiday, May 21st through June 4th, and we would have to pay a full deposit since our pets were staying one day during this time frame or our reservation would be canceled. However, since they stated they made an error in not informing us, they would instead only require a deposit for the 21st. This did not make sense, because anything before the 21st was not part of the dates they just created. I then spoke to a GM, who was incredibly rude. This came as a huge surprise, because all of our visits and talks with staff have always been great. The GM threatened to cancel our reservation if we did not pay, in which I stated we were not refusing to pay. I was just trying to understand why, after we created our reservation, that we were now getting a call asking for a deposit. She stated that the staff should have advised us that a future deposit could be requested, even if a week before a holiday. She continued to argue with me that the dates were not made up, they just did not have them at that location yet and staff made an error in not informing us when we made the reservation two months ago. I explained this did not appear to be a good business practice; seeking a deposit more than a month later because one date landed on their recently created Memorial Holiday dates. Again, she coldly stated if I did not pay, then she would cancel our reservation. I do not understand how a customer cannot question a business practice after staff admitted to making an error, and have a GM coldly threaten to cancel a reservation. When I asked to speak to her supervisor, she plainly told me no one was above her, that was it. Pay or get cancelled, end of conversation. read more

Honestly, Not worth it. We dropped out dogs off on Friday afternoon and picked up Sunday morning. For 2 dogs we payed over $1000. They preach that they have "no hidden fees" but random things just started to rack up. They insisted that our dogs needed a full exam even tho we told them that they had both just had exams not too long ago. They insisted and added another charge. The vaccine prices were outrageous, we never saw one of our dogs on the cameras, the cameras were extremely low quality. Not to mention when we finally didn't pick up we waited a good 25 minutes just for them to bring our dogs to us. The staff were very friendly and helpful nonetheless. Overall I personally feel like for over $1000 nothing was super special or outstanding. We're appreciative that our dogs were definitely cared for but most likely will not be back. Update: It's been a few hours now since we got the dogs back. One dog is completely out of it and the other is way more vocal than when she was dropped off... He is highly intelligent, detailed and explains things very well... including all treatment options. When we first got our dog, we went to another vet and immediately felt like we were charged (and overcharged) for getting and keeping our dog healthy. It felt unfair to guilt us into expensive shampoos, ointments, and ear cleaners. None of this has happened with Dr.Wesson. He is NOT like the other vets we had encountered. He is sooooo wonderful and has NEVER suggested we spend money on something that wasn't absolutely necessary. I can not agree more with the reviews here and the difficulty it is in separating the incredible care offered by Dr. Wesson and the ridiculous lack of business management/hidden fees charged by the facility for boarding. I find it unfathomable that virtually every review about boarding mentions the total lack of transparency and hidden costs, yet this practice continues to this day. Do they not feel that a overhaul is in order or do they like having customers feel that they are getting nickel-and-dimed to death? If you do have a pricing dispute, there is actually zero attempt to see your point or make concessions. They advertise themselves as a 24-hour care facility, but how is that possible when the staff leaves at 7:00 pm and doesn't return until 7:00 am?! That a 12-hour care facility, people, not 24! I am heartbroken and upset with the Quality of service and lack of respect I received today from the manager. From what we were told our dog has happy tail syndrome which is when he slams his tail hard against an area and it burst out with blood. We have received a call on Wednesday that he needs to be picked up due to his happy tail syndrome which we also received a call on Friday the week prior regarding this matter. The problem I'm having is why is my dog being put in a cage at daycare? And the size of the cage is quite heartbreaking! Why is he being caged? Why are we taking him to daycare to put him in a cage? Doggy Daycare should be fun and a happy place. My dog shouldn't have constant tail injuries from being put in a cage! We were informed by employees that he's crated for hours. When I called the resort to inform the manager I wasn't happy and that they should inform people that they are putting their dogs in crates she stated it's their choice to do so.. Absolutely it is not. We have a right to know when and how long he's being crated or even why he's being crated. Everyday we ask how he was and we receive the same answer he was great. The manager Leslie i believe wasn't even allowing me to finish my thoughts before stating "well this isnt the right establishment for king" ummm now you tell me after spending so much money now you tell me this!!! Now that I have informed you of my major concerns?? She stated have a nice day and hanging the phone up on me.. Mid sentence to my thoughts. Now this establishment states they care and we should trust them! With that type of unprofessional treatment with me over the phone I can only imagine what else they have done. Like other reviewers, I have only good things to say about Dr. Wesson. He is wonderful and almost makes up for all of the problems you have to deal with here. He is a caring, skilled veterinarian. This review pertains primarily to boarding, pricing practices, and management/poor customer service. I have boarded my two small dogs at Dr. Boyd's several times for short business trips. They typically had connecting rooms. One of them was medically fragile and would require "Safe Care" which basically means isolation from other dogs for her own immune protection. First, although the business advertises itself as "24 Hour Care," it is not. It closes at 7:00 p.m. and the staff leave and do not return until 7:00 a.m. the next morning. They have some form of alarms/monitoring, but there is not a person there for 12 hours overnight. When this business first opened, they used to have someone physically present overnight and you could pick up your pet anytime, but they stopped this during Covid and never restarted even after all restrictions stopped. I think that it is misleading to have a big sign out front saying "24 Hour Care" when, in fact, no one is in the building for 12 hours overnight. Second, the pricing can get complicated and it is not transparent. When you check in for boarding, the staff will create a written estimate with each line item of the boarding expenses (for example, one dog, 10% discount for 2nd dog, medications? is Safe Care needed? any extra services? etc.) They used to give you a copy of the estimate. But the last time I went (September 2023), the staff refused to provide a copy of the estimate. I was told that they have a new policy that they are no longer allowed to give a copy. At the same time they require that the estimate be signed by the customer. Outrageous. Then at check out, the final price would never match the estimate because of mistakes by staff calculating the various line items. Third, they use two completely different clock systems for boarding. Basic boarding is timed on a personal 24 hour clock so your 24-hour "day" starts when you check your pet in, and if you go over there is an hourly rate up to 5 hours over after which you get charged for another whole day. That's fine. The problem is with the lack of coordination with the Safe Care clock which runs on a calendar day (presumably adopted from the day care billing system and never tailored to boarding). So the last time I boarded my dogs, I arrived home from my trip at 10 p.m. and could not pick up my dogs because the business was closed. I went in the next morning at opening -- 7 a.m. -- to pick them up. The desk staff attempted to charge me for "Safe Care" for that calendar day even though they had just arrived and had provided no services that day. This was not the first time that I had run into this issue. In the past, each time it happened, I complained to the desk staff and/or management and I was never charged for Safe Care on the pick-up day. On this particular occasion, the staff were withholding my dogs over this $55.75 billing issue, so I told them to charge whatever they thought was appropriate, and if I disagreed on the charge for the last day, I would discuss it with management and/or submit a dispute with my credit card company. They did not charge the Safe Care for that day and brought my dogs out. Which brings me to management. Instead of correcting the conflicting boarding clocks, or having any communication with me, management (Liz? Lesli?) did not respond to my complaints in any legitimate or constructive way. Instead, she instructed staff to refuse to accept future boarding reservations, which I did not learn until this week when I called to make a reservation for an upcoming business trip. I started bringing my 97lbs Pitbull mix Lex to Dr.Boyds around 2 years ago (an over due review). He's a "gentle giant" who is particular about who his friends are, thankfully the staff at Dr. Boys have been able to create a different play group or 1 on 1 play for him if his buddies aren't in daycare when he is. I believe they call it a playtime cycle. Lex doesn't like mounters or dogs who get in his face, he corrects others with a loud and unpleasant bark (which some dogs would not react well to). My dog is not a "regular" daycare dog but from the times he's come to daycare he's made wonderful relationships with each of the staff members, to the point in which he is greeted as if he was a regular. Dr. Wesson has treated my dog for environmental allergies and we've had great results! From my personal review, i would definitely recommend dog owners to visit this facility. read more

I am thoroughly pleased with my experience here. The entire staff is EXCEPTIONAL. My dog had a stick stuck in the roof of his mouth and he needed to be sedated to have it removed. I was given a SAME day appointment for a great price. It was cheaper than every other clinic. Dr. Wesson along with every technician treated my dog with great love and care. Dr. Wesson took his time to explain the procedure and recovery for me. They even threw in a complimentary Pawdicure (nail trim :). I could also see the daycare facility which is clean and monitored by a staff member at all times both in person and on camera. I look forward to bringing him here for daycare. Been coming here for a few years for vet care and previously for boarding. The prices have significantly increased since COVID and we've stopped boarding but continued with vet visits. The staff are all very nice and helpful and scheduling is easy. Dr Wesson is our usual doc and he's super nice, caring, takes time to walk us through everything and listen to/address our concerns. We met the new vet recently and he's very nice as well and seems knowledgeable, but didn't feel like he did a proper nose to tail exam for our annual visit, esp considering the price. I would recommend Boyds (Dr Wesson specifically), but caution against their pricing. If the vet recommends any medications or shots, ask how much before saying yes. Chances are you'll be able to get the same medication for half the cost elsewhere. read more

I've been so pleased with my experience at Dr. Boyd's. My dog Rosie goes there for daycare about once a week and I have boarded her there multiple times. Everyone there is so kind and knowledgeable and Rosie wags her tail and is so excited to jump out of the car when we arrive. Dr. Wesson is her primary vet and is the perfect balance of kind, knowledgeable and gentle. I came to Dr. Wesson for a second opinion after a dozen or more "highly-trained" vets at Friendship Hospital for Animals in DC refused to acknowledge that my cat had a GI disease and kept telling me for nearly a year that everything that was wrong with her was "normal." Dr. Wesson thoroughly reviewed her records before our appointment and within minutes of hearing me tell her story performed an ultrasound and diagnosed her with advanced IBD (among a laundry list of other concerning issues that presumably came about due to the IBD going untreated for so long). He quickly came up with a treatment plan for her and his team rehydrated/fed/medicated her in the office in the intervening days while we waited for her prescriptions to be compounded at an outside facility. Unfortunately, we didn't even get to start the home treatment plan--by the time we met Dr. Wesson, my poor kitty's condition was already dire. He and his team (along with the emergency facility next door) did whatever they could, but it was too late to stop her rapid decline and she unfortunately didn't make it. Dr. Wesson and his team were immensely caring and compassionate and while my kitty was sick they did everything to make her comfortable being in this new and unfamiliar place--one of the technicians, "Uncle Dan," even sang to her while she was being prepped for the ultrasound! I was duly impressed by how everyone treated us, and in particular by Dr. Wesson's thoroughness. He brought me into the ultrasound room and walked me through everything he was seeing in real time so I could be fully informed, rather than delivering a complicated jargon-filled summary after the fact like some vets have done in the past. After she passed, I needed to stop by again to return the prescription food she never got to eat, and Dr. Wesson came to speak to me about what happened. He was clearly upset about the whole situation and was right there with me in my sadness and frustration about the care she had received before coming to him. He took a great deal of time out of his day to talk with me and help me process what happened, demonstrating great kindness and compassion. I have only known him briefly, but in that time he has shown a notably higher standard of care than the fancy hospital we came from, and he's also shown me that he truly cares for his patients. Dr Boyds was very unprofessional with their service to our puppy. Their immediate response to our dog being a 5 month old puppy was to tell us to medicate him for anxiety. They refused to even touch him since he was "borderline aggressive" and doing behaviors never seen before. Instead of trying to work with our puppy, telling us it would have been better to start his grooming before 6 months (which he was still 5 months old), they sent him home and told us to medicate him before coming back. We took him to a different groomer, a week later, NO MEDICATION and they said he loved the entire process and the new groomer cut him amazing! Bad vibe at Dr. Boyds and we will never go back because the dog definitely did not feel comfortable going there and neither did we. read more

I am a father to a beautiful 15 year ild daughter And father to beautiful handsome 14month old pitbull. My dog was not planned . But i bought him out of a box from a person who did not look fit to own puppy's. So 100$ later i am now proud owner of a pitbull I named him King. So , we began with him needing daycare at month 8 So i look around and research all the doggy daycares . Dr.Boyds is #1 with size and looked great. For 465$ a month . 22 day package gets you doggy daycare . The first 2 times he got happy tail they never reported it. They sent him home with bloody tail. The last 4 times they call me They say "Hey we are going to wrap his tail hes ok" Keep i mind The doctor is explaining to me with big smile Happy tail is normal . And blah blah blah Now here is where it gets interesting The last 2 times his tail was so bloody that he had to go home NOW KEEP IN MIND I THOUGHT HES OUT IN LARGE ROOM SO THIS LAST TIME I GO INTO THE BACK TO DISCOVER THIS LUXURY DOGGY JAIL . Where they rotate the dogs in an out of the kennels . I said what?????? My dog doesn't even own a kennel . My dogs injuries all caused by small crate style kennel. I have paid so much god dam money . We have been bringing our Chocolate Lab Rooney here since we got him for vet care, boarding and day care. The staff at Dr. Boyd's from the front desk receptionists to the Vets have been nothing but kind and day care has really helped us with both socialization and getting some energy out of a lab puppy. They are extremely accommodating and we have never had a bad experience there. I also appreciate that they have suggested alternative places to purchase routine medications that are less expensive (online pet pharmacies for things like heartworm preventative). We left our dogs when we went to Nashville and I do not regret it. I was very pleased for all the care and consideration they had with one of our older babies (she had heart problems). Advantages (pros) is right in Rockville Pike Ave. Is 24 hours open and is fully staffed. It is spacious and kept clean. Check-in process is detail oriented and the staff will take note of everything. They even will call you if there is any concern on your pet. They are very accommodating to your and pet's needs. They have vets on site and I am under the impression that soon they will have a 24-hour emergency room. Only thing to considered and not in the negative side, and this applies to every single dog overnight resort in Maryland, the price. Maryland, especially, Montgomery County, is not a cheap place County. We have compared prices with other pet resorts and are almost the same pricerange. However, if you have one dog it could be affordable, but if you are like us, and want to leave more than one, could be a little expensive (we used to have 3 dogs, now 2 and still a little pricey). Although, this place is top-notch. You are paying for great care, service, and an outstanding staff. If you have the budget, I will not think it twice. My dogs will stay there. The facilities seem pretty nice and the staff was nice enough but my dog was required to get a flu shot and we were charged for a another test my dog didn't need.
