My Mom has a Chihuahua named Lady who is extremely frightened of having her nails clipped. I had previously tried the grooming dept. at the neighborhood PetSmart but Lady was so scared that she bit me as I was trying to get her muzzle on. They said that they would not be able to handle her due to her fear aggression. A neighbor had recommended The Poodle Nook & we hesitantly brought her in. Rachael greeted us & I explained the problem with Lady to her & several of the groomers who were nearby. The salon was very well maintained & I noticed all of the dogs were calm & relaxed. Lady managed to get out of the muzzle we brought & Rachel suggested giving her a tablet of Benadryl to possibly calm her down & then coming back in approximately 40 minutes. I was impressed that she was willing to try again after witnessing Lady's behavior first hand. We came back & a couple of young ladies suggested trying one of the shop muzzles they had on hand & also suggested a cone that is put on by putting it around the dogs neck instead of the kind that requires squeezing the dogs head & face through the cone. She even stopped what she was doing & went out to her car & brought in a tote full of misc. grooming equipment to help us. Another groomer stepped right in & volunteered to do the trimming while the other held Lady in a safe position. I was amazed by the way they coordinated & worked together to protect each other & the dog during a difficult procedure. They successfully got the job done & I cannot Thank them enough. They didn't give up even in what could be a dangerous situation. Not only did they do a fantastic job, they were absolutely professional & kind about it. They understood the issue & got the job done while maintaining their composure & controlling Lady without harming her. There is no way we could have got Lady's nails trimmed if it weren't for the hard working ladies at the Poodle Nook.We would of had to have her sedated by a Veterinarian & pay for an office visit & sedative which could be costly on a regular basis. I am extremely grateful to Rachael & these young ladies as is my Mom who is 97 yrs. old. She is so relieved that her little dog is going to be ok. Thanks to the Poodle Nook. read more

So, after I returned, I set up another appointment with the elderly lady, who I assume is the owner, for Thursday, June 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. I asked her to repeat the date and time before I hung up, so I could create a reminder on Alexa. The day and time arrives, I show up 15 early and I'm told. "Oh your appointment was for 9" I told her that is not what she told me on the phone and she proceeded to argue with me (she didnt make a move to look in "book"), "No, I circled 9. Have experienced his place twice one for my mom's dog and one for my own. Kim worked on my moms dog & was yelling stop at her multiple times, pulling her about around like she was not an actual living animal, grabbing her nose and flicking up her mouth. When showing her what I'd like, The owner Rachelle pulled my dogs snout over abruptly, my dog had cowered away from her, I should have paid attention to her signs of uncomfortability, shaking and running away. She was more uncomfortable there than any other time I've taken her to the vet. I asked if she had cut her tail & she said she doesnt touch trimming the tail or ears unless otherwise asked. She said I didn't say things I know I said to her too. My dogs cut is clearly uneven on the face & legs. Personably too, She was telling me what I should & should not do for my dog for her health & wellbeing not even asking if I was open to hearing her advise. I have been taking my two little dogs to these wonderful ladies for yrs now. They are good to them and treat them well. Cali and Nora are not foo foo dogs. They would prefer to be dogs on the go without a bath. But Janice and Rachel both take care of them and make them look so nice. I have numerous compliments of how nice they look each time they come out from there. My dogs are happy when they come out looking so refreshed. Going in they are fine too. Took my 9 month old Maltipoo puppy, Fred to the Poodle Nook mid-December of 2022. This was our first experience with a groomer and didn't know what to expect but it never occurred to me that it would be anything but pleasant or I wouldn't have done it in the first place. He has been bathed and brushed at home several times and aside from wanting to bite at the brush, he doesn't put up a big fuss but as you can imagine, he was apprehensive and ended up being terrified of the scissors when Rachel, the owner and groomer of 34 years, got near his face with them. She clipped a few of his nails, cut some of his hair, all while he stood nicely and let her do that. At some point, she said I don't know what to do about his face and asked if she could give him Benadryl and when I said, yes, instead of just offering it to him, she put his head back, shoved it to the back of his throat and held his mouth shut. After he spit it out 3 time she asked if I could try. I put it in the palm of my hand as I had suggested she do, and he immediately ate it. It didn't appear to do much so she muzzled him, looked up at me and said, it's going to be $75.00 instead of the $55.00 she had told me and said, once the muzzle goes on, the price goes up. I didn't want Fred shaved so once she showed me how short his hair would be, she told me I could leave and to come back at a certain time to pick him up. At this point I'd like to say Fred is the sweetest, most loving little guy you could ever ask for. He just didn't want the scissors near his face and growled and snapped at her so I understand the need for the muzzle but I also have to say that I was stymied by so many things that took place. First and most important is that she just wasn't nice to him. She didn't care that this was a first for him and in no way tried to gently coerce him or make him feel at ease or safe. I realize groomers have a difficult job. It's one most of us don't want to do when it comes to our pets but we are paying for a service and that includes our pet being well treated. On several occasions she pulled him by the ear and told him he was a bad dog. I wasn't sure what to do! Is this how it is at all grooming places? I left Poodle Nook, ran my quick errands and returned early. He had been bathed and she was working on cutting his hair. Said he was terrible while getting his bath and the bather told him over and over that he was a bad dog. I asked how he was when she cut the rest of his nails which I soon realized she hadn't even done, and she said terrible. She continued to chastise him while she worked on him. Talked about how all the dogs they had that day were bad, that she was beyond ready to retire and honestly seemed to be over it. I had wanted to take a picture of him with all his hair on the floor but with all that was going on, I forgot so at this point I took my phone out of my purse to take a picture of Fred standing on the grooming table when she asked if I was taking a picture for my attorney. I chuckled and told her I had wanted to take one earlier and asked if it was okay and she said yes but she didn't want to be photographed. Was the statement she made an admission of guilt because she had treated Fred poorly or just her dry, sometimes rude and always direct, unconventional sense of humor. She ended up charging me $70.00 instead of $75.00 because she wasn't happy with the job she'd done. He was choppy and uneven. When I got him home and for the next week to follow, he constantly licked his bottom, testicles and penis. I think he had been trimmed too close with the clippers as he was red in that area and he had a nick on his penis. She also nicked his nose as she quickly ran the clipper down it. Since then, I've talked to several people who have said not to take him back to Poodle Nook, saying her tactics are not the norm or acceptable. I had an appointment for Fred this month which I have canceled and have several recommends for other places where the groomers truly love what they do and treat our pets the way they should. I know PN has several good reviews and maybe my experience was just a bad one but her bad attitude and mistreatment of Fred was enough for her to lose a customer. She expressed several times that she didn't want to do this anymore and just wanted to retire. I think she should. For those of you, particularly those who have a puppy that needs grooming take it somewhere else. There are plenty of loving groomers out there who are up for the challenge. read more

I had a a bad experience at Petco where they cut my dog not once but twice (as in a cut to her skin). i was absolutely livid, especially when they told me it was my own dogs fault. I was extremely mad at myself for bringing my dog back there after they nicked her the first time, figuring it was a fluke. So they kind of traumatized the grooming experience for me and my toy poodle mix. By some stroke of luck the next place we found was the Poodle Nook and we have been with them ever since, probably 5+ years now. Janice and Rachel have put all my fears at ease, i know when my little Mimi goes there she is treated with the utmost care. Her somewhat high maintenance coat is always cut beautifully, and when i pick her up it is soft and conditioned. She looks and smells like a million bucks! I dont leave too many yelp reviews, but i feel this one is long overdue, as I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a groomer. I am ashamed i ever went to the big box store, supporting our local small business is the right thing to do, and your pup will be thankful you did too! read more

I had an amazing groomer that owned her own shop for many years and then retired. Quite frankly, she was so amazing that I've struggled to find a decent groomer since. After trying about 4 or 5 groomers (some I have already reviewed on yelp), I have finally settled on the Poodle Nook. Poodle Nook is the best place I've found and my poodle finally looks like a poodle again! So happy to find a shop that knows how to properly groom a dog. My pup got the lamb cut and it was done correctly. I am also please that when I asked about having my dog cut this summer with a cut they aren't familiar with (bikini cut) they were open to figuring it out. Yeah! Actual customer service. I was searching for a new groomer for my senior papillon. Poodle Nook was recommended. I walked in and just kind of lingered around. Nobody even greeted me or acknowledged my presence. A woman took out a small puppy, no more than 8-10 lbs and put him on her table. I saw this woman hold the dogs leg so tight, her knuckles were turning white! Instead of pulling the dogs leg back, she pulled it out the side and the dog started yelping! She grabbed the puppy by the face and looked into his eyes and tried to scold him. I was only there maybe 10 minutes but it was enough for me! I had to leave almost in tears! Please do NOT take your dogs to them. There are 2 women in the shop. read more

Poodle Nook has taken care of my mini-schnoodle, Pip for a few years. I am always pleased with Pip's haircuts, and she always feels more confident when returning from Poodle Nook. The groomers are friendly and always take the time to make sure they communicate what style you are hoping for in terms of the grooming. In addition, there was one time my car was being serviced, and when I mentioned I'd be there within the hour as I had would be jogging/walking, Janice offered to come by and pick Pip up, as I was nearby. To me, that showed her dedication to the business and her customer service top-notch. They often take same day appointments, which is another highlight for those with already busy schedules. This place has really helped my dog get over his fear of the groomers. I have a husky/malamute that only needs a good bath and brush out about 4 times a year. After getting him groomed a few times at a different place he became terrified and really fought even leaving the house for fear we may be heading to the groomers. I switched to this place and he has actually gotten less fearful. Still try's to bolt for the door once we arrive but he calms down and they tell me his howling has relaxed as well :) When I come to get him he is usually sleeping and relaxed instead of stressed and begging to get out. I am very impressed, they clearly treat him well and with kindness for him to learn to relax like that. read more

I trust these groomers 100% with my dog! He is especially difficult - hates being groomed or his paws and ears touched. They do a wonderful job and he doesn't seem remotely shaken afterward (have had some bad experiences at other places). We took both our dogs in for hair cuts, tootsie trimming and anal gland expressing. They were great with both of our critters. Fylo, our little boy dog, got really loud and whiny when they removed Phoebe from the cage they were sharing because it was time for Phoebes bath. These girls know how to groom dogs! I had two Lhasa mix dogs with all kinds of hair. They are gone now but if I ever got another dog, it would only be taken to The Poodle Nook! They are very kind to the dogs and they truly love what they do. It's not just a job to Janice and Rae. They have a huge fondness for all dogs. Your pet will be brushed, mats shaved out if necessary, treated for fleas if they have them, groomed and then dried. They also trim nails. I wish I remembered the name of the woman that helped me out Monday the 2nd because she was terrific! I called early in the morning for a last minute appointment to take my mother's dog in for a nail trim. She told me to come right in and once we got there she helped me out immediately since she knew I was in a rush. She had a room full of dogs waiting to be worked on so I could tell people really trusted them. I wasn't sure how well my mom's dog would do since it's been a while since she's had a professional trim. The woman working was so wonderful to her. She calmed my pup down every time she started to get a little anxious and made sure her nails were as short as they could get. She trimmed and filed them and it only cost $10! We were only there for about 15 minutes which was great as well. I had a very good experience here and even though it is out of the way I will be coming back for any other dog grooming needs. read more

I saw a dog who was found in Natomas, covered in oil, being teased by some kids. A lady named Rochelle took him home and gave him a bath but he didn't get along with her dog so he needed a foster home til we found his owners. I took him in but his hair was so long and it was 100degrees. I was having a hard time finding someone who could get him in right away. Poodle Nook was recommended by several people. I called and they were booked. But I kinda begged and they squeezed him in and did a great job even though they were so booked already. They all have big hearts and I have since found the owners of that little cutie pie they made look so beautiful. So now I'm looking for a Shihzu or Schnauzer rescue, girl and I'll bring her to the Poodle Nook! read more

I understand that dogs are not the easiest to groom but these people claim to be experts and they did not reach any of their standards. I have a chihuahua-pomeranian that has long fluffy hair. Their cuts were uneven and did not listen to my instructions. I ended up with badly shaped bald dog. I appreciate their hard work but I wouldn't come back to this place. read more

Horrible service! Never going back for 3 reasons. 1. She didn't call me to let me know my dog was ready and made him wait in that crate thirsty and needing to potty for hours! 2. When I got there, she didn't tell me how much it was or that she raised the price on me from before for the same thing I always get and went ahead and charged my card anyway. 3. When I got home, I noticed she over clipped my dog's nails and they were bloody. He whimpered every time I touched his feet!! Just wanted to tell everybody about the wonderful staff Poodle Nook grooming. They were so kind to help our straggly neighborhood dog with a free grooming. After hearing about poor Mila accidentally eating a fish hook and how my neighbors could barely afford the vet bill they went out of their way to offer her a free grooming. When we brought her back my neighbors (who weren't able to her themselves) they couldn't believe how beautiful she looked. She came back looking like a whole new dog. read more

My fur-baby used to do well there. Yet one day my 8lb. Poodle mix was kept in a cage all day and when I picked her up and she jumped off of the floor her two back paws barly touching the counter and pounced right into my arms! Wierd! Until the last two times I took her there she was fine, she had gone there for 3yrs. No indication of trauma. . I have no idea what happened that day, with the exception of them saying a lg. dog scared her. She loves dogs of all sizes. Never has there been an issue with lg dogs before. Or if being there from 9-5 was too long in a cage for any dog. I was really hesitant to take her there again so with hesitation I did just that. I walked in and she was handed to a tall man for combing. She was there awhile again. I was charged extra because she said my dog had too many matts. Plus my dog was freaked out. She had never behaived poorly before then. I knew then it was not a coincidence she behaived that way. The owner scolded me like a child, rudely putting me and my dog down. The next Groomer I took her to there were no issues at all! Makes me wonder what really happened there. We will never return to the Poodle Nook Again. read more
