I'm so glad that I ventured into the Pookaberry Cafe as it is absolutely the best and most unique spot on the north fork. This place not only passed the vibe check, it's on its own level of coolness that demanded a vibe check of me. From the glittery epoxy floors, to the hand carved wooden creatures, colorful, creative and unique ceiling murals, multiple textures, and art deco and pop art features throughout, you feel fully immersed in an artist's dream from the second you walk in. The lighting and the French music playing overhead also lend themself to the unique experience. I ordered a margarita and 2 sips in, I found myself even more relaxed and enjoying more and more of the decor details of the cafe that I continued to notice throughout. The menu offered so many options, including quite a few vegan options, but I settled on the watermelon salad (weekly special), the boats n hoes spring rolls (veggie), and the Vegan Burger. The watermelon salad was so fresh and delicious, and it complemented my (2nd!) margarita perfectly! The spring rolls were perfectly crispy and flavorful and the vegan burger was the star of the show and was absolutely perfect, especially with the added fresh avocado on top! This place was somehow made even more fantastic by the quick-witted, fun-loving, hilarious owner/host/server, Marco, who provided us with great service and even better stories (were they all true??!!!). I highly recommend entering this magical establishment as soon and as often as possible so that you can count yourself lucky enough to have experienced it. read more

I was looking for a restaurant in the Mattituck area after visiting a nearby farm with the family. I found a restaurant that was nearby and we walked aground the area to see what was there. The restaurant we originally picked had a 20 minute wait... and with two hangry toddlers, we crossed the street and saw a restaurant sign on top of a neat looking bar. It is actually next to a bar as well, so we eyeing sure it was for the kids. I stood outside and the clock struck 2pm, and a nice gentleman opened the velvet rope for us and said "come in, we were open." Not knowing if this was for the kids or not, we walked in and saw one of the most interesting interiors I have seen in awhile. It was fun and different. The manager made it fun as well as he has a great attitude and happy to help in terms of recommendations. The menu itself is big and you will need some help. The first thing was needing to get food to two little hangry ones, so we asked for noodles, which he got on immediately, getting in a pancit order. That came out first and my wife and I took a few extended moments as the menu is extensive. I ordered the chicken and waffle with bang bang shrimp and my wife had the steak with rice and onions. Both dishes were flavorful and definitely enjoyable. I could definitely go back in again if I ever head back or East, but maybe taking the Long Island railroad would be better since it is across the street from the train station. Wonderful new place with a varied menu. This is something the North Fork needs more of. Not your usual fare, but with quite a few familiar favorites as well. Lots of parking, unique decor, with a friendly staff. We ordered a few Filipino dishes like sisig, chicken inasal, fried lumpia, and regular stuff like fried mushrooms and disco fries. Everything was wonderful and tasted great. The new place definitely has growing pains, sometimes apps came out with the entrees, silverware and plates came after the courses, took a while for our bill to come, but these are little things that will be taken care of once they have a proper waitstaff. Pookaberry is crazy...in a very unique, fun way! We were walking out of the broken down valise, ( for those of you who know that place, you know they serve really good, really big drinks), so when we walked out and saw a pirate next door, we thought maybe we had had one too many :-) So the pirate started calling us over to come in to this place. The moment we walked in, we thought we had stepped into a time warp. The entire restaurant is amazing, with neon lighting and drawings from floor to ceiling. It was just so cool! We found out the pirate's name was Marco, and he showed us around. I even got to meet the kitchen staff, who were all so wonderful! And by the way, the kitchen and entire restaurant is immaculate! Marco was so inviting and friendly, and he made the 4 of us feel so special. He was truly happy that we came in, and hung out with us. It was late and the place I think was closing soon, but we never felt rushed. The food was amazing, and also very cool looking. I don't remember everything we ate, but I remember it all being very delicious! The drinks were also awesome! This is definitely a place we will go back to, and that I highly recommend. It's fun, the atmosphere is awesome, and the owner and staff are just so great! It's a great place to go with a group of people, or book a party, since it's lively, fun and the food is great. We recently had a birthday celebration with a group of 10 at Pookaberry Cafe and had a great time. Everything from the unique vibe and decor, the big drinks to the food provided for a wonderful evening. Marco (the pirate) is entertaining and goes out of his way to make everything work. Tried their pancakes and chicken pork adobo and they are very juicy bursting with flavors and you always want to go back and eat more. You have to try their sisig and crispy pork belly. Checked the days and hours and made a plan to go there last Thursday. Got there at a little after 3pm and despite sign on door saying opens at 2pm it was closed. Was very disappointed and confused as to why both online and in person show that restaurant opens at 2pm on Thursday and it did not. read more

We ordered Sizzling sisig, Barangayn pancit, Quezon City chicken feet, Ginatang Gulay...delicious! Our favorite dish was the Sizzling Sisig and the chicken feet because you can't find pig ear and chicken feet anywhere. The flavors of all dishes were 10/10 and would be loved by everyone regardless of their likes or dislikes! Located right next to the Broken Down Valise in Mattituck. The strangest restaurant to ever hit the North Fork. It is Funky, Weird and Fun. To top it off- the food is Great. I had the Chicken Inasal and the Sisag (fried rice with lots of stuff raw egg and chopped crispy PIGs ear). It is served sizzling hot so the egg gets cooked. Went in after a long day at strawberry fest and wanted a bite to eat before heading home. Saw this place on google maps and decided to give it a try. First red flag for me was the fact it was completely empty on a Saturday, then the insanely huge menu, seeing falafel and sushi and chicken and waffles in the same menu was very questionable, but this is an extremely small area so I can understand wanting to give options to people where there aren't many places in the first place. The owner was very nice and seemed to be very proud of his place which made my group feel hopeful. He took our order very quickly, i ordered a burger but was never asked how I take it (I always go for medium rare but this came out, grey?) I found 2 hairs in my burger which was extremely disappointing. It took a hot minute for our food to come out. Waiting I personally enjoyed the decor itself, it's very abstract, distinct and honestly a huge art piece. But many tvs with different things playing, cameras scattered around? But the worst thing for me was the music. The music itself was nice but there were two songs constantly playing over each other, huge headache maker and after leaving I felt my head pounding. I hate writing a bad review since the staff was very nice and timely (the wait staff not the kitchen) but the food was just plain bland and I can probably get better food at a school cafeteria. However I did love that with our check we got cute little erasers with frogs bears cats fruit etc. I truly see exceptional potential for this restaurant to be a hidden gem in the mattituck area, I hope the owner understands that quantity over quality isn't worth it for not only the customers, but the kitchen as well. read more

We got the spring rolls as an app. It was very good, but I ate a couple too many, and I hurt my dinner appetite, so I have some of my fabulous Sizzling Sisig. for later today. Ordered take-out from here yesterday and the food was amazing! We had chicken dumplings (light & delicious) wings Adobo (large and maybe the best wings out here), BBQ pork skewers (very flavorful), and chicken adobo (juicy and delish-rice was fantastic too). Everything was nicely packaged and ready for pickup. The menu was eclectic with great Filipino choices, a welcome addition to this area. While creative, the menu could use more straightforward clarification/explanation of dishes. The restaurant itself is wild and very interesting though a bit dark. The owner should consider lighting up the dining area if they want to attract families as it currently looks like a disco inside- way too dark. Love the artwork! Definitely reccomend. read more

I rarely write reviews, just wanted to give honest feedback for those managing Pookaberry. Firstly, I just wanted to say the food is outstanding, and the interactions we had with everyone running the establishment were pleasant, they are very kind and it does seem like they care very much about what they are doing. If I may give some constructive feedback. The first time I ordered, it was for takeout. I was contacted to let me know the cafe had closed early that day, and my order did not go through and I would not be charged. Fair enough, no big deal Second time, came in sit-in dining and there were people but it wasn't too crazy. Shortly after we arrived, a ton of other people came in. We ordered drinks and were interested in ordering food, but no one asked us after our drinks came. Unfortunately I had to order stuff to go, as the groups that piled in after us were attended to first, we were waiting around an hour and a half and we had somewhere we needed to be. When we were able to dig into the takeout, we discovered that one of our dishes was missing. Although I have to say, everything we did get was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! Upon reading my bank statement, I discovered the very 1st order that had been canceled, did indeed go through and I never received a reimbursement. Pookaberry, I love your food and friendly people :) However I do think it may be good to be aware of these issues, because I can see you flourishing with the refreshing vibe and delicious food you bring to the north fork. Mattituck just got blessed by the little purple alien baby Pookaberry is my fave new spot. The food is insane. The art installation is beyond words. The entire space is a gorgeous collection of things and thoughts and lots of glitter in the best way. I can't wait for upcoming events and to rent this space for gatherings !! Marco and his team were excellent hosts. The food is authentic and delicious. We had the Lecon Kawali, Chicken Adobo and Pancit Noodles with Shrimp. Everything tasted great. Marco is an extremely talented artist and he showcases his work in his restaurant. The chef came out and checked on us, he even brought us some extra green chillies to spice up some of the dishes. We are so glad to have this as an option in NOFO. Will be coming back here - many times for sure. BTW Marco makes a mean Habanero Margarita, I strongly recommend it. read more

Cool little cafe next door to Breeze Hill Farm. You have to walk thru BHF, exit the backdoor and walk to the building next door. The entrance is in the back. Wife runs the cafe, husband is an artist, MarcoArt and his artwork decorates the cafe. He also sells his artwork in a truck by the parking lot. They have a small menu including sandwiches, baked goods, coffee and tea. I had a cappuccino to go with my cider donuts from BHF. They don't mind if you bring in food from next door. They gave us a Portuguese custard on the house. It was so good, I'm going back for another one next week. We also picked up a scone for breakfast tomorrow. There's some crafts for sale. This restaurant says it closes at 9:00. We thought the restaurant sounded interesting, so we drove from Nassau County to eat there, Arriving at 5:30, we were told that the chef had already gone home! Are they open till 9:00 or not? I guess they have to decide whether they are willing to put in the hours that a restaurant requires. We dine on the Northfork almost every week, but but we will not be dining at this place. read more

The American Phillipeno inspired food is as terrific as it is inspired.
