Initially I thought I had found the…read moreperfect company (I got the "we'll fix your gate latch" treatment and they loved the family dog in the sales meeting...). That has all subsided and it has been a very poor experience. I have never written a negative review of any business prior to using Ranger Pools, but I feel compelled to inform others of my experience. The issue arose when I noticed a leak in my pump, of which I could tell they left a piece off the equipment when servicing it. What followed was 2-3 weeks of frustration in them not addressing the issue (after they took the piece off). They either responded with a quick note about they will fix it tomorrow or no response at all. My frustrations really escalated when they made regularly weekly visits and did not fix it - they would send out the "everything's good" type of weekly status report. The only way I could get them to address my concern was writing a Yelp review. A few minutes after that went up they sent an email asking what I wanted. I said I know you haven't been servicing my pool to my expectations for at least the last month, please fix my leak and give me the last month's charges back and in return I would remove the Yelp review. They fixed the pump finally, but to this point there is no refund. As unorganized as they are, I'm just watching for the next month's recurring charge, even though I cancelled them long ago. I hired a new company to come out and I got even more shock. Despite the most recent weekly report from Ranger showing cyanuric acid levels as 30-50 ppm which they labelled "ideal," the new company found the level to be 300 ppm! For those that don't know, this is a chemical that slows down the reaction of chlorine so it doesn't evaporate too quickly. When you get a level over 100 ppm you essentially lock up the chlorine from working at all. And you can't get it out of your water, overtime fresh water will dilute it but at levels as high as I have I am left with the likely option of having my water pumped out and having to start fresh. This is because bacteria and algae will be certain and there are some health concerns in having that high of level of acid. Of course, with North Texas water restrictions I may have some hoops to jump through and some extended loss of use. To verify the new company had a correct reading, I took it to Leslie's and unfortunately they came up with a similar result and prognosis. The pool will need to be drained. I've tried to reach Brandon and the tech numerous times throughout this to reach a resolution and correspondence is limited and they take no responsibility. How in the world did it go from "ideal" to disaster in a 7 to 10 day period? Or did this happen in a 10 day period (Leslie's staff tells me you'd almost have to try to do that in that short of period)? Did the tech lack the knowledge to do the readings or did he just skip over parts of the service? These are all things I am wondering. One thing is for sure, they are very careless with my property. It was common to find pool items strung across the yard and landscaping, computer boxes on the equipment left open, leaves remaining in pump baskets and the gate was always left unlatched for the dog to escape if we didn't notice it first. Brandon's response to what happened and the possible resolution, written 10/1/14: "Jay We call it old water and it happens to every pool after a period of time. It's normal and unavoidable." My pool just turned 3 years old. I am not an expert but I don't think it is normal to have to drain the water every three years due to chemical imbalance. And it hardly explains why it went from "ideal" to emergency situation in a short amount of time. But maybe that is "unavoidable" for Ranger pools too. A little customer service, accepting a little responsibility and offering some form of refund or ways to correct the problem would have resolved this. But their customer service is non-existent. I'd encourage all to keep looking - don't buy into the friendly sales pitch...

I reached out to Evolution and after a little back and forth they were able to fit me in that same day at a reduced (50%) of their typical emergency call fee Dakota arrived when he said he would, performed a pressure and a dye test and located leaks at the juncture between the pool body and the face of both skimmer boxes Dakota executed the needed repairs and the problem was solved. Once again he gave me a 50% discount on the repairs to "win my business" Dakota and his assistant went about their business in a very efficient and professional manner. I was impressed by his willingness to work in bad weather (it poured rain at my house that day) and by his willingness to go the extra mile to earn my future business. I cannot recommend Dakota and Evolution strongly enough. if you have structural pool issues of any sort, call Dakota first. You won't be disappointed and you can thank me later for the recommendation

I'm retired. I enjoy doing repairs myself so, I investigated my pool leak myself. I dug a hole…read moreabout 18" deep where the water was seeping up and discovered I was "over my head" - metaphorically. My son had someone replace a pump for him, so when I told my son about my pool problems, his answer was simple: "Call Dakota. He knows his stuff." I called. Dakota returns my call the same day, quoted me the price for the inspection, the estimated price for the fix, and scheduled an inspection. Doug texted me 30 minutes before he arrived and arrived on time. I showed him the beautiful hole full of water from the leak and PVC pipes. I expected it was a pool leak because it was near one of the pool inlet jets. Doug suspected it to be somewhere in the spa which was next to my hole because of suspicious dampness where it should not have been damp. By using a hypodermic needle with colored dye, and a diver's mask, he put his head underwater and did a few squirts of dye near the suspected leak area to see the dye get sucked into a crack. So, he quickly and accurately found the leak. Once the water leaked into the stone overflow from the spa, it took a circuitous route to find and fill my hole. After a phone call to Dakota, he returned with a most reasonable price to fix the problem. I agreed at once and the work began. He drained the spa, cut out the old grout, mixed up underwater cement, patched the cut-out section, cleaned up the mess from the cut-out, re-filled the spa, and verified the leak was fixed. I paid him and he left me with my 18" hole and a warranty for the work done. But that's not the best part. The best part was the waiting around. While we waited around for the draining and re-filling of the SPA, I kept asking questions: What's the best robotic sweeper? How should I fix the grout cracks in the topstones around the pool? How about the retaining wall in back that shows cracks? What do you think of my suction pool sweep? We also talked about life and raising our children. Doug taught me things and verified some of the things I already know. He had good techniques for doing his work. It was like a personalized technical school, psychology session, and comedy show all rolled into one. (Doug has a good sense of humor.) Evolution Leak Detection does quality work, at reasonable prices with the integrity of men who will take that extra 30 minutes that determines the difference between a good job and a great job. That's a rare work ethic that is refreshing to know is still alive and well.

I collected pool update bids from several companies and chose Petri based on their customer…read moreratings, competitive pricing, ability to start the project fairly quickly and the professionalism of Mike Rakes who did the estimate. Before Petri started the project Brennan, assigned as my project manager, stopped by to meet me and check out the pool. Like Mike, a professional guy with solid, knowledgeable answers to my questions. Project-wise we missed a few days due to rain/thunderstorms but things generally ran to plan and Brennan routinely kept me informed of progress, next steps, timing, issues, etc. A really professional guy and an outstanding service provider/project manager. The one "surprise" was a leak caused by a repair company's attempt at a fix ten years prior. It didn't show up on a pressure test and as it turned out I couldn't have reasonably expected Petri's plumbers to detect it. Long story short the prior company had clearly done a shoddy repair job which led to a faulty pressure test reading. The resulting leak became obvious after I'd paid Petri's second invoice and all concerned were confident all leaks had been detected, fixed, and paid for. Imo it's now obvious that the old botched repair job caused most of my pool issues since 2012. Brennan ensured the leak was repaired quickly and, given the circumstances, at a fair, reasonable price. Imo Petri, while not at fault, proactively and professionally managed this issue to quick resolution. The project wrapped up today and our pool looks great, we're very happy with the project and would gladly recommend Petri to anyone in the market for a pool update. These guys are professionals. Ray

Looks like the bond was either not applied correctly, didn't get time to dry before the next layer was added or just poorly applied. I am not a pool professional, but I can now see the layers on the chunks of plaster off the bottom of my pool. I was unimpressed after about 6 months after the work was first completed. Trying to get a response after money was paid was impossible. May be good for pool cleaning, but I would NEVER invest in having them do another major pool job.
