We wanted the old concrete deck removed, tile replaced, new pool coping, a Baja Shelf added, and a new path along the side and front of the house. On top of that, we picked the slower, but much hotter, months of July & August for the project. All of the pool work would have to be done in conjunction with a new exterior paint job for the house and the installation of low-water usage landscaping. Our landscape project was designed and overseen by the very capable Roosevelt Alvidrez of Elements Landscape. Manuel promised he that he could work seamlessly with Roosevelt and any the other contractors on site. This proved to be the case. Since I was out of town over the summer, my wife had to w with Manuel for feedback and to offer suggestions while the work progressed. The team was always timely. We never felt like they abandoned us for days at a time to work on another job. We also had added few "change orders." Manuel rolled with everything. We warned out next door neighbors about the project and they also had no complaints. Thank goodness! Singing a contract with Manuel was easy and payments were handled accurately and with no drama. I switched and after a year with this new company I can say this is not normal. They overcharged for everything. They destroyed plants breaking branches, lawn - pouring pool water on it (still can't grow back) and when the pump broke they said they'd maintain the water while we waited for repair. They not only didn't maintain it but I had to drain it 3 times in 2 months because they could even get the water balanced from scratch. They were also dishonest on occasion about repair and showing up. Nice people but not acceptable service. I caution anyone from working with these guys. It's expensive and the damage is even more expensive.

I signed a contract and was ready to go, but when it came time to perform Daniel was nowhere to be found. Edit: After reading Daniel's reply I would like to clarify, I did return the signed contract and offered him a 2k deposit. I understand you can't stick to an exact timeline, but ghosting people after all that work isn't cool.

The nightmare never ends. Our permit came through on April 7th and per our contract the pool was…read moresupposed to be done in two - three weeks. At one point we tried to get out of our contract because the construction failed inspection/Daniel neglected to call for another inspection/we couldn't get ahold of him. We had a series of sit-down meetings, "Daniel, we need you to make this pool a priority." Daniel would assure us he would and then would disappear. In the beginning he would say that he couldn't contact us because his phone was "bad," or he had no service at a job. He would tell us he was on the way to our house at 11:30 AM and never show ("I got a flat tire at the dump [twice]", "I had to wait to pick up a laborer," and on and on). He only worked on our pool about 6 - 8 hours per week if we were lucky. My day started with a text, "Daniel, what is the plan for the day?" I had to project manage everything, but each deadline he assured us he would meet would pass with no progress. The real issue is the shotcrete (concrete) that was done on our pool. The second batch was too wet and they added accelerant. We knew that the shotcrete looked bad, but we've had an engineer out and the recommendation is that the entire pool be demo'd. The shotcrete is cracking, you can see areas of dirt that were not covered and it easily chips off with a hammer. Demo will cost $15K and then we would have to pay for a new pool. We asked Daniel to leave the job last Tuesday. We are stuck with a big concrete hole in the ground with no recourse. I cannot urge you enough to find another pool builder.

I was quite impressed with the Yelp reviews of Melo's Pools. I sent a quote request via Yelp and had a response within 10 minutes! Appointment was set for five days later. Albert and Pablo arrived to my home on time. They measured, took pictures and assessed the pool along with the pool pump system. We discussed ideas, timelines, finance options and they left me with a book that contained sample ideas. The following week I met both of them at their showroom to look at the actual tiles and find a match for the pebble. Albert and Pablo were great at making suggestions and giving me space without any pressures of making a decision, signing a contract, etc. A couple weeks later I signed contract and a demo date was set. The crew was on time the first day, and that stayed true until end of project. To no surprise there was a leak detected after opening up the plaster. Mauricio, the project manager, brought it to my attention immediately. He showed me the issue, explained what needed to be done, had a plan ready to go and with my sign off they had the issue fixed expeditiously and the project was kept on track. As a matter of fact, the project was completed a week earlier! Even my neighbors commented how quickly they worked and how great the pool turned out. From Day 1 to the end, the entire crew was respectful. Mauricio kept me updated on the progress of the project. Even after the project, Pablo and Mauricio came back (each separately) to ensure all was good.
