If I could apply fractions or decimals to a Star review I'd make this a 3.54 Star rating. I can only review the limited selection I had there at Poor Boy and that was the Italian Beef. So it's rated a bit better than okay leaning to good. The good: This was not a skimpy portion, it was pretty loaded with beef, that sandwich had some girth and weight, that's nice. To be fair, my favorite Italian Beef in the Greater Chicagoland area is made for me personally (usually) by Mr. Beef himself, Carl Bonovolanto, hands down the best and a high bar to match. The So-so: I wasn't asked if I wanted my Italian Beef dry, wet, dipped or dunked. To be fair not all places ask that. Even Portillio's did not the last time I went there (it was a test visit). I knew that's because the quite young employee there wouldn't know the first thing about how real Chicagoan's are particular about their Italian Beef and likely wasn't trained to say the words. She was just going through the motions. Same thing here at Poor Boy, I think that's just not the the way to present an authentic Chicago Italian beef. There's a serious tradition to this iconic beef sandwich which for a long time you couldn't find most anywhere but in the Greater Chicagoland (until The Bear TV series became popular). I was asked about peppers, I said sweet peppers. I then said do you have giardiniera and he said yes and I said I also wanted them. But he misunderstood my Chicago accented english, so just put on the hot giardiniera, no sweet peppers. I declined the cheese too, totally not used on the real deal, that's for tourists from Philly. I didn't find out until I seated and opened the sandwich. More So-so: The sandwich was piping hot and filled with beef and topped with copious amounts of very hot giardiniera. BUT.. the Italian flavoring was pretty hard to detect. It was beef alright, but where's the herbs and spices? The beef on the sandwich was way too dry and the little amount of very thin au jus that was there had all fallen to the bottom of the sandwich and totally melted the bun out in places. It was falling apart spilling beef as I began to eat it (inhale it?). So another no-no is you have to use a bun that won't disintegrate with juice. This bun failed that test pretty badly. I'd tell you the bun brand to use that's the absolute best, but then I'd have to flash you with that Men In Black device so you'd never be able to tell anyone. So even if I'd have been offered a dunked or wet Italian beef which I always like, this bun wouldn't have been able to take it anyway. The servers/cooks there looked like they knew their way around a fast food kitchen but they also seemed not to be part of knowing just how important the Italian BEEF tradition is to a natural born and raised Chicagolandian. Since there are places around that do it so well and so authentically, you have to put a strong effort in, IMO. Their menu on the wall behind the counter looked very deep and I bet they have items there that they just knock out of the park. I think the prices are fairly reasonable and you may get a good value for your dollar here. The tables were not a wreck but if it were my place I'd wipe down those tables often so there's absolutely no crumbs, greasy smudges or bits laying on top of them. If I end up in that town again for any reason I may stop in here again to try something else they are supposed to be known for, and maybe will have a better review to add. Okay, that's a lot of words for just one sandwich... 3.54 Stars, Fair/Good tasting and nice pretty hefty Italian Beef Sandwich. I think I could like this joint just fine if going there more often.

First I went there at 6:20pm. They are supposed to be open til 10. Doors locked, only drive through open. I hate drive throughs. The speakers suck, you can never understand what they are saying. Poor Boys speaker sucked. Ordered Gyro plate. Supposed to get 2 pita breads. Nope. I got 4 halfs. How am I supposed to make sandwiches. Don't think I'll be going back. The Gyro meat was good.

Really friendly people! Food/salads are fresh. Portions are enormous! Food tasted great. Easy access to the freeway - so we stopped by both ways on a road trip from Texas to Michigan (and back). Also nice little park or grassy area across the street so we could walk our dog. read more

Barely edible standard burger and Gyros joint. Nothing hand made. Everything frozen pre-breaded GFS onion rings and chicken. Pork tenderloin sandwich was precooked and reheated to a dry, hard shingle. Sauces all from a supplier. I could dcook the fries at home better myself. Total waste of cash. Go to Janekies instead. At least there the pre breaded pork tenderloin is cooked with some skill. read more

Found this great spot while passing through on our way to Chicago. Very friendly service. It looks like a whole in the wall but is very clean inside. I had the chicken pita with gyro sauce and my husband had the burger. Pita was awesome and burger was good but nothing special. The fries were really good and plentiful! read more

I love poor boys! they got me with the rib tips dinner and i say that because i am very picky when it comes to ribs, but other then that they have a good selection. They are not cheap with the food they hoook you up! So i so recommend to go there. read more

I ordered the gyro plate - - - it was enough food for two people, but as gyros go, the meat could have been better. After tasting my wife's Polish sausage (I think they called it a Maxwell Special), I realized I ordered the wrong entree. It was a GREAT tasting sausage. read more

Best gyros in town. Best Greek salads in town. Nothing here is bad. Huge portions, fair prices. Great customer service. I've never had an order messed up. Lots of fatties eat here though, and they aren't getting salads. There are 2 locations, and at the one on the east side, you can score some good dope in the neighborhood. read more

Great gyros with plenty of meat on them, pita is always warmed/grilled perfectly. The maxwell polish was great, good grilled flavor topped to perfection with grilled onions and mustard. The closest I've found to the maxwell in chitown. read more

This use to be a place that no matter what your order will always be right. Now, these people they have working there is either to busy with their makeup or hair that my order is always wrong. Use to be I would always have a fork and napkins without even asking. Now I'll be lucky if I get my entire order right. Most the time it's a bit of a wait. read more

As others have mentioned, if you're in the mood for greasy food, this is the place to be in K3. I became a vegetarian a few years ago, but I still go back to Poor Boy's when I'm in town for the BBQ fries and fried pickles. So yum. read more

I decided to upgrade based solely on food flavor. My other statements still hold true. HOWEVER, there is now another Poor Boy about a mile west on the same road and the atmosphere does feel nicer. They also carry deli sandwiches. read more

Great place. The Gyro is the biggest but not quite the best, however, if you are in the area It's the best hands down. I asked for extra sauce on the side & get this humongous container of Gyro sauce. I could not get my big mouth around this monster sandwich. When I did get a good bite, I had sauce all over my face & chin! I'm not complaining but you'll look like an animal trying to eat this thing with your new girl friend on a lunch date. (Just a precaution). My biggest complaint was not enough napkins. I had to wash my face with hot water & soap. I brought this on myself with the extra sauce. Good value Gyro, fries& drink for $9.00 or less. Bob tail parking. Cops alway eating there. You will feel safe. Truely its own kind of place. read more

Went through the drive through and ordered a shrimp basket, Reuben, fries, and onion rings. $19.64 total. Shrimp came with fries. No drinks come with these meals. Seems pricey to me! O-rings were 8 silver dollar sized ones and were a bit crunchy. The fires were soggy and underdone. The rueben was not in marble rye like it had been and was also soggy though the meat was nice. Such harsh reviews. Lol.......but don't miss the point of this place. It's a "fast food restaurant". Your not going there for a weight watchers meal, your going to get unapologeticly good food, large portions, small price. If you want healthy food......go spend a hour and cook it yourself at home. read more

I've given this Chick-fil-A more chances than I should have…read more I come here regularly, and the one thing that stands out is how consistently slow the service is. I've done numerous DoorDash pickups from this location, and it's common to wait far longer than expected. Delays happen, but what really gets old is that nobody ever seems to acknowledge it or apologize. Today's visit was the final straw. I placed a mobile order specifically because I expected the drive-thru to be slow and thought ordering ahead would save time. Instead, I ended up sitting and waiting while multiple cars in the drive-thru received their food before I got mine. No one came out to provide an update, explain the delay, or apologize for the wait. What makes this frustrating isn't just the speed--it's the complete lack of communication and customer service. A simple "sorry for the wait" would go a long way. Instead, every visit feels like long delays are just considered normal and customers are expected to accept them. There are plenty of places that make mistakes or get backed up. The difference is that most at least acknowledge it. After repeatedly experiencing the same issue here, I've decided I'll be taking my business elsewhere.
