Main bar area. No surprises here...but continuity is great.Me thought Bart Simpson would walk in any moment.

Inexpensive classic dive bar. Cash only, retro 60's early 70's woodpaneling, looks, smells and acts like a classic dive bar...and belive it is . I'll definitely be back. Mo drama, cool laid back bartender.

Poor Dennys what can I say.. It's Cheers reincarnated.. good music , cheap drinks , $ cash only .. and good a/c.. me and my honeys favorite watering hole

The crowd was pleasant and the bartenders were cool. Not fancy bar so be cool with expectations. No cover charge The music playing was a mix of Rap, r & b and I believe I heard Selena como la Flor come on at one point. $4 drinks oh yeah!! Honey jack w sprite or Jack and coke is what I was dranking. They had tv's showing the Winter Olympics. California lotto is available here. Dart board It's a small spot and for what it's worth I had a good time here. I didn't see security, considering the area just be aware of your surroundings. Yelp review challenge 11/100

(Drank 08/22/18 WE @ 1:30pm): No need to feel poor, Denny...it seems your patrons really love you and your saloon from just my first visit! I had the fortuitious occasion to have come across Poor Denny's Saloon as I met a former tenant who recently moved out of a nearby property my family and I owned to return a security deposit. Some of my favorite dive bars have disappeared in recent years or reimagined themselves to something completely different and off-putting. So, to my pleasant surprise this boat of a bar brought a smile to my face with all the earmarks of true diviness. Would I make this a constant watering hole each time I was in the area!? PURCHASE Modelo Negra ($4.00 x 3): One of my favorite Mexican cervezas mainly because it had more flavor than most lighter offerings south of the border, I eventually stopped at three on this particular day https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=qBJY8ZfShQO4Fyy-8z7iJQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. On a recent visit, I went lighter with a Pacifico https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=6jFPY2RVpSbpVK2WyYc6og&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. SERVICE I was immediately greeted by the active and effervescent bartender Crystal as I made my way to an open barstool where I parked my arse for a good hour or so. Once I perused what they had and made my decision, I had a beer in front of me. As quickly as I downed my first beer another appeared as if she read my mind. She made conversation with everyone and simply kept things moving like a ringleader in a circus. Crystal rocked! PARKING (FREE) Although I parked across the way on the street where there were plenty of non-metered spots (please carefully read all posted signs), they had a medium-sized parking lot - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE This dark tavern with an air of mustiness, its numerous elements from wooden plank walls, rods, reels, pictures, a freakish pelican statue https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=j3IjMSWNhtNHB1uNJaxu-A&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw and the like on display throughout to show the owner's love and passion for fishing, along with old leather booths https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=awGriUdyPBBsjIBTWOvzZw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, and a long long bar with equally similar stools https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=LR_diMmeK1Jq_XKgUd4HcA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, were all indications of a neighborhood dive joint where everyone inside truly knew each other. If you felt lucky (and many of these patrons did on this libatious afternoon), Keno, Lotto, and Scratchers were easily available to pass the boozy time https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=sZSswNmSeV_UGQytEjLBUA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. As a Donald Duck fan, I must mention the sign that greeted me at the men's bathroom https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=F-hybW5GkTR7p3-KclQ3hw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Only natural lighting was when someone opened the front or back door which garnered turned heads like prairie dogs on the range when spooked! Otherwise, it was the din of low-wattage recessed ceiling lights. There were several muted TVs while good rock & roll music played from a jukebox https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=w3RSYqIWd8fJ4TaSSt91ww&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL With the seemingly slow death of my beloved neighborhood dive bars, Poor Denny's Saloon was a fabulous find and would certainly return whenever I was in the area! This was a no-frills hangout that didn't serve food except for packaged snacks (but were allowed to bring your own), offered no taps but a small selection of bottled domestic ($3) and imported ($4) beers, and a decent liquor assortment needed to make the most basic of mixed drinks. However, the prices were dirt cheap, and the service was friendly and quick. Plus, I made easy acquaintance with everyone and was given a complimentary shot from a fellow patron! I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $12.00 BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, this was a CASH-ONLY kind of place (ATM onsite), so they didn't accepted any credit cards especially mine of choice...AMEX! 4.0 STARS.

Amazing dive bar. I have lived in Whittier for 15 years and didn't know this place existed. Love the juke box selection and how the cocktails are made. Way better beer selection than the other 2 bars nearby (bottle only). Tip: no fancy cocktails, no pool table, just a dart game and CASH only. Highly recommend this place if you are a no frills kind of person.

I love this place! One 9f the best hole in the walls. The bartender Ginny is the best! Thank you for your wonderful hospitality!

This place instantly became one of my favorites after just one visit. From the moment you walk in, the whole vibe hits you--the moody, neon-lit ambiance sets the tone perfectly. It feels elevated, a little edgy, and honestly just the kind of spot you want to spend your night at. The music is curated so well. Not too loud, not too mellow--just the right balance where you can vibe, have a conversation, and still feel the energy of the room. You can tell they actually care about the experience, not just throwing a playlist together. Now let's talk about the drinks... because that's really where they shine. Every cocktail feels intentional and crafted with care. You can taste the quality immediately--nothing watered down, nothing basic. They have a really cool mix of classic cocktails and modern twists, and even the familiar drinks feel elevated. It's the kind of place where you want to try something new every round because you trust the bartenders know exactly what they're doing. Service was on point too. Friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. They took the time to explain drinks and made great recommendations, which made the whole experience even better. I came in not knowing what to expect, and left already planning my next visit. If you're in Uptown Whittier and looking for a spot with great energy, amazing cocktails, and a full vibe--The Vandalist is it. Thank me later
