I really didn't want to write this review. I rarely complain, and I have never left a review like this before, but after our experience last night, I feel it's necessary so other customers know what happened. My boyfriend and I went to Rokka Grill & Whiskey Bar in Whittier for a much-needed date night. We had gotten a sitter and were looking forward to having a nice evening together. When our food arrived, I actually thought my steak sandwich was cooked perfectly and enjoyed it. My boyfriend ordered the Rokka Burger and unfortunately wasn't impressed. He felt the burger tasted very generic and dry, with a very thin patty. We each ordered two drinks, which were okay. The real problem began when we were ready to leave. We tried to get our waitress's attention to ask for our bill. She walked away, and another employee came over and told us that our waitress had been sent on break and that he would take care of us until she returned. He then began clearing our empty plates. While doing so, he placed a plate over our water glasses and large glass water pitcher. The plate hit the glasses, causing everything to break and sending water pouring all over our table. At this point, my boyfriend's jeans and shoes were completely soaked, and my legs and heels were drenched. There was broken glass and water everywhere. What was most disappointing was that no one checked on us. The employee eventually came back with towels to clean up the mess and asked what we wanted. He offered to make my boyfriend another drink and said he would not charge us for it. We accepted, although at this point we were frustrated because all we wanted was our bill so we could leave. We asked for the bill again, and our original waitress eventually brought it. The total was $221. We provided our card, and when the receipt came back for us to add our tip, the charge was $244. They had charged us for the drink we were explicitly told would be complimentary. My boyfriend asked our waitress about the charge. She took the bill to the manager and then essentially disappeared. We were left sitting there for approximately 20mins still soaking wet, particularly my boyfriend, with absolutely no explanation about what was happening. Eventually, my boyfriend went over to speak to the manager himself. The manager told him to wait. My boyfriend then watched as the manager appeared unsure of how to resolve the situation and ultimately called another employee over to reverse the credit card charge and reprocess the correct $221 amount. What bothered us most was management not asking "how they could make it right." No apology, no acknowledgment of how disruptive the incident was, no offer to do anything for us after our clothes and shoes had been soaked, and no genuine attempt to salvage what was supposed to be our date night. Accidents happen. We understand that. If the employee had accidentally spilled the water, immediately checked on us, sincerely apologized, made sure we were okay, and management had handled the situation appropriately, this review probably would not exist. Instead, we were left sitting there wet and frustrated, charged for a drink we were told was free, and then essentially ignored while management figured out how to correct the bill. Rokka, we came here to enjoy a night out together after arranging childcare. Instead, we ended up having to go straight home because my boyfriend's jeans and shoes were completely soaked. The food may have been fine, but customer service was disappointing. We expected much more from a restaurant presenting itself as an elevated dining experience. I hope Rokka takes this feedback seriously, because the incident itself was an accident. The way it was handled after the fact was definitely a poor choice. read more

i'm a regular at rokka and have enjoyed it so much since the beginning. i've probably been here over 100 times and the staff and management have always been amazing includinh all food and drinks. this was really whittiers gem for the past 4 years and i would always bring all my family and friends to have a consistently good experience and night out. unfortunately this is the second time rokka has fired all there employees and there are zero familiar faces when i walked through the door. after the first wipe of employees the moral and consistency wasn't the same but it ended up working out great but this second time around it really just took a shit all due to the managment not being great with customers and treating the their employees like shit. i believe it's the demise of rokka ever since the new managment has entered naming jerry specifically. we had an argument about my service animals being inside the establishment which have been there atleast 20 times for brunch and dinner. i kindly showed jerry my service animal cards which i didn't have to do so but i did out of courtesy and he continued to harass me. ever since then he's always got some rude face when i walk in and has terrible customer service. you can literally tell on each employees face that they see the apprentice problem and it's him from here on out i won't be visiting rokka anymore atleast until they get jerry out of their. if you're the owner im not here to talk down on you for that but my only advise as a loyal customer is to focus on the people that manage this place and what their intentions are for the this place for the future. there's no passion, pride and very little respect. please save rokka we love this place and whittier can say the same , would hate to see you guys fail and close shop for something so easily fixable read more

My friends and I always find a meeting place between the IE, LA and Long Beach and this time we found a gem! The vibe was everything, the seating and lighting were perfect! The drinks were great - it helps we are all whiskey drinkers ;) the food was tasty! The marrow was delish, the calamari steak was good, although we thought it was a steak cut of calamari, but the Brussels sprouts had just a little too much balsamic. The steaks and veggies were perfect! To top it off, the service was perfection, attentive but not overbearing, gave good recommendations, and just overall friendly! Great experience we went for dinner to celebrate husbands birthday. Super nice location love all the barrel decor added a unique touch. The place is a little dark inside but in a good way, gave that elegant cozy vibe. Food amazing!! For appetizers the baby rok sliders are good. Although I highly recommend getting the artisan bread basket. Toasty on the outside but soft and warm on the inside. The creamy pesto with shrimp was really good as well. Husband got the coastal Oscar filet duo it was good meat cooked perfectly. If you are looking for something more light and warm the clam chowder was good. After walking around Downtown Whittier on a Sunday afternoon, we decided to stop by Rokka Whiskey Bar & Grill for a drink and dessert, and we're so glad we did! We ordered the apple cheesecake with vanilla pecan ice cream and fresh whipped cream, and it was absolutely amazing. Every bite was delicious and the perfect way to end our afternoon. The vibes were a solid 10/10, and our waiter, Ric, was fantastic. Even though we only ordered dessert, he took the time to walk us through the drink menu and share some of the restaurant's most popular dishes. His friendly service and recommendations made us feel welcome from the moment we sat down. After hearing about the menu and seeing some of the food coming out of the kitchen, we've already decided we'll be back. Unfortunately our reservations fell through at another restaurant around the block because of a scheduling misunderstanding, but thank goodness ROKKA Whiskey Bar & Grill was nearby because this place absolutely saved Mother's Day dinner. I'm the type of person who always wants to try somewhere new, but this place left such a strong impression on me the first time that I knew it would be a solid backup plan. Drinks were good , we ordered bone marrow , coconut shrimp and the pork belly. Bone marrow tastes like cheap beef fat, shrimp were over cooked and pork belly was very dry . Really enjoyed my experience here. We had a reservation and ended staying at the bar. Two reasons. Once the bartender was super friendly and helpful. Second, it was a great people watching spot and they had the ducks game on. A number of rounds of whiskeys and end appreciated their selection. They have some of their own barrel aged whiskeys. I visited this restaurant based on a recommendation from a local friend who assured us that the food was of good quality. Upon arrival, the establishment appeared well-maintained and upscale, and the host was courteous as we were seated. We ordered soft drinks; however, the waiter delivered water shortly thereafter. When asked if they had any non-flat sodas, the waiter responded negatively, indicating that all their sodas were flat, which was disappointing. The staff member, Henry, appeared dissatisfied and subsequently exhibited a dismissive attitude towards us. Given the approximately $300 spent on the meal, I expected the food to be flavorful and free of contaminants. For our main courses, the my friend and I ordered ribeye steaks with mashed potatoes; one of us chose sweet potato fries, and I selected vegetables. The ribeye was excessively chewy and lacked flavor. The mashed potatoes were only mediocre and required additional seasoning. Another guest ordered spaghetti with shrimp, which he described as disappointing, likening its taste to that of Mexican soup. Was looking for a date night place without the kids. A few stipulations come to mind: Romantic environment or at least a nice scenery. Great cuts of steaks. Various drinks options. Convenience of places after eating. Walking into this restaurant, you instantly notice the beautiful lighting and decorations. This place is definitely beautiful and the mood lighting make it a place for a date night, birthday party, meet up with friends (non rowdy friends), of casual meet up bar top to pre-funk with drinks before going to another establishment. You can dress casual or fancy, either are surprisingly appropriate. We visited on a Tuesday because I wanted to try the Tomahawk steak for $85, normally priced $165. The steak is 32oz on Tuesday, as opposed to the normal 42oz on other days. I ordered a Penicillin (my go to drink) and they made it very well with blended scotch. It's rare a place uses ginger syrup and I loved it! The Mrs ordered a whiskey sour and they properly used egg whites. Kuddos to the bartender for knowing how to properly make drinks! We split the Ceasar salad (because it's huge!) and also ordered the Brussell sprouts. The Boom-Boom sauce with Brussels sprouts was incredible. Added a little zip and spice we needed to very distinct side dish. My wife never had a Tomahawk steak. We usually ordered very lean meats when going out, but it's a great deal and wanted her to try something new. We ordered it Medium and a gentlemen comes out and cuts the steak in front of us and lights it on fire. It's mostly a show just for dinner, but still appreciated. The steak was very good! For those unaware, the Tomahawk is essentially a bone-in Ribeye. So there's going to be flavor with the fat. Don't expect a lean filet mignon or melting fatty Wagyu cut. It has its own class and place. Simply prepared with salt and pepper. We both enjoyed it. Filled us up perfectly! This place is designed for couples looking for a nice evening or birthday events. It was moderately crowded for a Tuesday with everyone dressed well, conversations kept to their tables, and servers attentive. I can see this place being busy on a weekend and possibly loud, crowded, and uncomfortable. Furthermore, I wouldn't pay $165 for the regular priced Tomahawk. But for a couple without kids who wanted a date night, this place was a swing and solid triple! There's a few bars with 2 blocks to choose from, but you're at the mercy of the clientele in the area. Don't expect a speakeasy to be local, but more local dive bars or sports bars. Next time we visit (on a Tuesday), we'll eat and enjoy drinks at the bar and chat with bartender and maybe watch the local sports team in the background. read more

The ambience of Rokka is unmatched. The interior is so fun and has great vibes for dinner. The blood orange margarita is delicious. The food is also top notch and has generous portion sizes. Our waiter was super great and attentive. My only cons is that they charge for a bread basket, offering it to the table without disclosing it's $12 for a few pieces. Additionally, the bathroom does not meet the interior of the restaurant, there was dried throw up on the toilet seat and paper thrown around. We also had pictures taken by a photographer going table to table which was odd. She then came brining framed pictures to be purchased but we declined. If you're planning to watch a major soccer match here, you might have a better chance finding the lost city of Atlantis than finding the TV remote. I came to watch the Mexico vs. Ecuador World Cup match, and it was complete chaos. Nobody seemed to know where the remote was by 6pm The TVs weren't on the right channels, Telemundo and Peacock were nowhere to be found, and the main TV directly above the bar might as well have been a decorative painting. Then came the food... I ordered buffalo wings at 6:05 PM. At 6:45 PM, I asked the bartender where they were. The response? "There's a lot of tickets back there." I'm sorry... they're buffalo wings, not a five-course tasting menu or a risotto that needs constant stirring. It should not take nearly an hour to fry some wings. When they finally arrived almost an hour later which I told the bartender cancel the order I had completely lost my appetite and left If you're looking for a place to watch sports, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. Between the missing remote, and the painfully slow kitchen, this was one of the most frustrating sports bar experiences I've had. This was really disappointing. My boyfriend had our Valentine's night planned out for weeks in advance at Rokka, and we came based on their official Instagram comment saying the regular menu would also be available along with the prix fixe menu. We also called the restaurant to confirm. When we arrived, we were told it was prix fixe only. There was nothing wrong with the prix fixe menu my boyfriend specifically wanted to try the burger and I wanted the seabass, which weren't included at all. He was really upset and we ended up having to leave and go somewhere else. Also, the comment confirming the regular menu was available has since been deleted (we do have a screenshot).
