How have we not found this place after living in the area for five years. Holy shit that's good food. Crabs, lobster, beer, whiskey, dive vibes almost perfection. It might be perfect not sure yet. The day we became regulars. Crab cakes are really crispy just too much horseradish in the sauce. Damn good The crab claws in garlic butter were perfect. Bite of the year 2025! Cheers

Lobster roll was highlight of my visit. Waitstaff was patient with my group. Highly recommended.

I moved to the area about 2 years ago and I just love this place. It's the perfect neighborhood bar with solid drinks and good food. They offer a great beer and cocktail list, and wide variety of food. The appetizers are stars on the menu, but I have also enjoyed their burgers and tacos in the past. This most recent visit, I finally tried their oysters. I thought they were very fresh and delicious and love that they offer a happy hour deal on them during the week. Server and bartenders have always been friendly.

I came here with a party of three on a Sunday during lunchtime. The bad was fairly busy, but we were sat down immediately and the service was timely and great. We had played golf prior to eating so we were all fairly hungry. The food was delicious and very well prepared. We actually ended up ordering two orders of the garlic claws with the toasted bread because they were so yummy! We requested the tots extra crispy and they were prepared at such. The lobster roll was fresh and had large chunks of lobster. I would definitely order again. The lobster bites were just okay - lots of breading that overpowered the tender sweet lobster. The bloodies were okay but nothing to write home about. I requested mine extra spicy, but it wasn't that spicy so I had to supplement the spiciness with Tabasco. The Bloody Marys came with two olives, a lemon, lime wedge and celery. I would've really liked extra accompaniments (e.g., bacon, cheese, shrimp) and would've paid extra for it as well. This could be an easy addition and embellishments to take the drinks to the next level. I would definitely come here again. Such a nice friendly neighborhood location with great stuff and delicious food.

Assuming this place is known more for the drinks and beer, which I don't drink the latter. I enjoyed the food too. I was in the area and have heard of this place from neighbors and I love me some good Nawlins poor boy and gumbo, so I stopped in for some take-out. I would have preferred to sit and enjoy the atmosphere, which was more than pleasant. The wait staff and bartender were wonderful. I sat at the bar after placing my order and chatted with the bartender (can't remember her name) She was friendly and funny. Looking around the bar, I can tell it would be a pretty fun place to sit, eat and have a drink or two...next time. It was Saturday around 1:30pm and there was a nice little crowd. The food was okay. I ordered the Lobster'Boy and bowl of gotta'getta Gumbo to go. The sandwich was good, but assuming it loses a little something in the trip home versus sitting and eating it there. Now the gumbo...unfortunately, I've tasted much better. I make a good gumbo and of course nothing compares to being in New Orleans and eating gumbo. It was quite bland. I don't think I will order it again but will definitely try other menu items in the future. I like this little place. Perfect for the neighborhood. Will visit again soon!

Way overpriced fish n chips that had too much batter. Had to leave the batter in a pile on my plate. It was lunch time & service was slow even sitting at the rail. Typical sports bar feel with tons of sports on TV.

*Drink and app review* I live in Oak Park and my daughter was in a math camp nearby so decided to stop in for the hour I had to kill for a cocktail and a quick bite to eat. I noticed when passing they had half off apps and drink specials so this primarily what made me stop and I'm glad I did! The margarita was so good and so strong which I was so surprised about. I just knew it would be weak but weak it was not! The mozzarella sticks were fresh and tasty too. I will be back for another margarita while I sit outside and people watch. Great location for that too.

All I can say is: My goodness! $9 for six cocktail shrimps on ice? Phil's not poor, he's stinkin' rich if he's charging prices like these.

Is this a good place to go for your birthday it's not going to be a group it's just me and my boyfriend?

Well it's not romantic by any means, but I've never not had a great time there drinking and eating.

The bread service was fantastic. The tomato focaccia and the baguette were both excellent and I had to remind myself not to fill up on it before the main meal! LOL! We started with the calamari which was very well seasoned and clearly not the typical frozen version you often see from foodservice distributors. It tasted fresh, was crispy, and well prepared. For dinner I ordered the margherita pizza which was simple and delicious. I ended up ordering a second one to-go for my partner who couldn't make it to dinner. He also loved it - even after it sat for ~30 min or so while we chatted more, then drove home to the Maywood area. I would imagine their delivery is pretty good based on that! My mom had the rigatoni vodka with added crumbled Italian sausage which she loved, and my dad ordered the Marcelino. He loved the generous amount of seafood and how well seasoned it was. My parents are big wine drinkers and my dad was especially impressed with the wine list and the selection available. Oscar was an incredible server!! He struck the perfect balance of being attentive while still letting us enjoy a relaxed, unhurried evening. The support staff and food runners were also fantastic and very friendly, making the entire service experience feel polished! I also loved the kitchen was more open which gives you confidence in the quality and care that goes into the food. The dining space is inviting with a nice bar area and an additional room that looks perfect for busy nights or private gatherings. Overall a great restaurant that we would absolutely return to!!

Right away we were brought water in a basket of warm crusty bread with butter. Then we met our server, Axel. He was a young man with lots of knowledge of the menu. He was personable and engaging. We started out with drinks. I asked our server Axel if the bartender could make a bees knees, and he said if they had the ingredients they would make one. It turned out Axel was the one who made my cocktail and it was spot on. We shared the chicken liver pate hors d'oeuvre. The pate was served with three small crostini toasts, cornichons, cubes of clear jelly which we couldn't figure out what it was, and Dijon mustard. The pate was very good but it was disappointing to only receive three small crostinis on the plate because the ratio of pate to crostini was way off. We had to ask for another basket of bread so we could finish the pate. For dinner my husband had beef wellington, my son had lamb chops and I had the special for Saturday, soft shell crabs. Each of us enjoyed our dinners. My son asked for creamed spinach instead of the ratatouille that came with the lamb chops, and Axel was happy to make the substitution. I'm so glad I went with softshell crabs because I hardly ever see them offered on a menu. They were delicious! We ended sharing a mango soufflé - after I made a wish, of course! I forgot how much I love dining at Hemmingway's. I definitely recommend this bistro for lunch or dinner or even their jazzy brunch on Sundays. It was the perfect place to celebrate my birthday.

The buffet was okay--not bad, but not especially memorable. It included crab claws, shrimp, oysters, smoked salmon, bagels, a wilted salad, pasta salad, and a handful of dessert options. The savory items were fine but didn't feel elevated for the price point. Quiche was served cold which is not my preferred temperature. That said, the desserts were the highlight. The crème brûlée and lemon tart were excellent and definitely the standout items of the buffet. One downside was the service, our waiter was MIA for a while, which made things feel a bit disjointed, especially when trying to get the check. Overall, it's an okay brunch with a nice atmosphere and solid dessert offerings, but for the price, the buffet selection felt a bit underwhelming. Worth trying once, especially if you're there for a leisurely brunch and good sweets, but not a must-repeat for the food alone.
