Bibimbap with Beef Bulgogi and I even added more gochujang than what's seen.

First of all, I've been hoping for a Korean restaurant in Oak Park for over 10 years and especially one that won't disappoint, like a lot of the local Asian restaurants. Seoul Ave is SO clean, fresh, quality, delicious and very classic to its origins. The food was truly amazing and very tasty. Service was great and about a month into opening so be mindful of possible growing pains. Ambiance is lovely too with simple setting and beautiful artwork. We especially enjoyed the kimchi mandu, kimchi, bibimbap with beef bulgogi, gochujang sauce, beef bulgogi with vegetables, cocktail selection, spinach was cooked and flavored with perfection and even the kids fries were notably delicious. Can't wait to go again!! So excited to have this place in town and really hope it's a lasting success!!!!

    Bibimbap with spicy tofu!

Back again. Delicious. Trying new soju flavors (had tried green grape, dark cherry and lychee today). Happiness!

The food is AMAZING! New spot in OP. I've been waiting for a Korean spot within a 5 mile radius of my home and it finally happened. The server was very knowledgeable about the food and the table outside are a bonus !

Even though it was crowded, we were seated right away, which was a great start. The servers were kind, attentive, and very helpful. I especially appreciated our server pointing out that the stock was made with beef and letting us know we could request it be made with water instead. He also took the time to help us choose several vegetarian-friendly options, which made us feel really taken care of. We shared the kimchi pancake, which was flavorful and satisfying, and each ordered our own bowls. My husband and I had ramen-based soup bowls, while our friends ordered the hot pots with rice. We all chose tofu except for my husband, who tried the mushroom option - he found it a bit tough and "meaty," but still enjoyed the overall dish. The food was very flavorful, portions were huge, and the prices were excellent. We even had leftovers to take home. Overall, a solid spot for a casual, satisfying meal, especially if you're looking for good vegetarian options and great service.

We had Sang Gai Bi and the Heuk Sam Gyup Sal which was the pork belly. We loved them both. I personally like the beef over the pork but I would get both again. We also ordered a Yook Ke Jang, which was a spicy seasoned soup with shredded beef. It was not too salty or anything. It was just right! Lastly we ordered a marinated pork (forgot the name of it) and it was good, but I think we all preferred the non marinated meat better. Not sure if it's because we were already getting full at that time. Definitely recommend coming to this place. Charcoal bbq tastes so much better, although it can be a little harder to cook imo. ALL the small dishes were amazing...there isn't a small dish I didn't like. This is my new favorite kbbq spot!! This place is also super clean. The women's restroom was clean when I went as well and had everything you need...including spray for your clothes after bbq is done, which is a plus!

But meat just tastes better bbq'd on charcoal, y'na mean? It honestly had been a decade and a half since I went to a proper charcoal KBBQ, so this was super exciting for me. The place had an old facade that was reminiscent of the "old days" for me. Not to say it was run down or anything, but everything from the floorplan to the old tables with charcoal pit installed tables reminded me of the KBBQ era of the 90's and beyond. Loved it! My family went inside way past lunch hour, so the place had cleared out and owners seemed to have been having lunch. The two gentlemen eho greeted us gave out father and son energy, but I couldn't be sure. There was a life sized photo of the oldtimer in a marathon getup hanging on one side of the shop entrance, which he explained was taken a decade ago. I could tell he would have been around my father's age, but seemed super healthy. A pleasant man for sure! It may not necesaarily be a good thing for owners, but I love it when there aren't too many patrons around, because it means that I'll get all the attention I need from them, when I need. It was certainly the case here. They were super attentive when we needed something. To be fair, we knew exactly what we wanted, so it wasn't like we needed to call them every 5 minutes, but it certainly was easy to get their attention when I needed another bottle of beer. :-D My family of three order two servings of marinated galbi, contemplating on whether or not to order my wife's favorite pork belly. In the end, we were too full and were glad we stopped with only two servings. We'll just have to come back to try other meat later. This is ALWAYS a dilemma for my family. All three of us each have our favorites, but none of us can eat a whole serving. We usually end up going with my daughter's favorite every time, unless my wife and I are out by ourselves, which these days is not as often as I'd like. We'll just have to wait a couple more years for her to graduate.. Galbi (short ribs) was GREAT! Not much else to say about it, other than the fact that any meat will taste better when grilled on charcoal. With so many other KBBQs around town with more "hip" and "modern" atmosphere, I don't know how well New Seoul is doing these days, but I certainly hope they do enough business to continue to be around. More and more Korean restaurants are moving away from their traditional way of doing things in order to cater to American audiences. They may not be huge changes, but these subtle changes make people like me and my wife a bit sad because it eats away a little bit of our nostalgia each time we experience some. I hate to sound like an old man about it, but I guess it falls to people like myself to continue to support more of the traditional places like these over the young ones. Anyway, based on just the marinated galbi my family had, I must give them 5 stars!

With that said, here are things people should know: - Chinese owner who said she had Korean chef but the person cooking our food was a Chinese lady. Not sure if there is a Korean chef but honestly and as other reviews have said, the food is bland and didn't seem like a Korean cooked the banchan nor the food, see my next comment below. - As soon as I tasted my jajangmyun, I knew it was from a package because I have had it before! That's why people complain about the portions, it's because the jajangmyun that I got came from a store bought package. I also saw packets of store bought nengmyun broth in the fridge near the register. - as a Korean foodie, if you look at the menu, they sell everything! But Korean restaurants can't sell everything because a lot of Korean food including the broth based dishes require a lot of prep and boiling for hours. That's why you don't see Korean restaurants with 50 different items like this place does.

At 5:00pm on a Saturday, we were the only party there so it was a pretty quiet outing. I hope this was an anomaly, because the restaurant definitely deserves much more foot traffic. There seemed to be quite a few to-go orders, though. We were brought an array of complimentary banchan, which definitely set the meal up for success! They were all delicious, but my favorite had to be the pickled cucumbers/radish. For the main, I opted for the chicken bulgogi. It had a nice amount of heat and lasted me for three meals. The flavor was good but some of the chicken was a touch dry. I did like the variety of vegetables. The rice was pretty standard and a welcome supplement to the spice. We had a good experience overall and I would definitely return to try more of the menu!

I recommend trying the black goat stew. It has a savory taste with plenty of meat. Meat was tender. I recommend eating it with rice. The same goes with the soft tofu soup. I got way impatient after a while waiting for him to come back to check on us. If we would have known better, we should have ordered and requested everything upfront. We did not expect him to have forgotten (or ignored) us for that long of time. In addition, I would have thought that the food, cooked and uncooked, would at least come out one after the other, at a steady pace. Well ok, they did come at a pace, but a very slow pace, very non-continuing. E.g the rice came out only when almost all meat was gone. So we never warmed up to the mood of having a satisfying meal as we have minimal on the table at any time to work on. Not quite satisfying as a dining meal experience. However, and however, If you want to come and take your time to chat and chat for the whole night, it might be the place. Have fun and enjoy your time with minimal interruption. No rush at all!
