I'm not sure if it's officially called Popcorn Pawz or Riverdale Grooming, but either way -- this place is like popcorn for my dog's paws... comforting, warm, and puts a smile on both our faces. I brought my dog in for a full grooming session and walked away seriously impressed. The groomer who worked with him has been grooming professionally for over 30 years -- and that level of experience showed in every detail. My dog looked amazing: beautifully trimmed, relaxed, and not the least bit anxious. He even walked out with a little extra bounce in his step like he knew he looked good. Before coming here, I had read some negative reviews, and honestly, I'm glad I trusted my own instincts -- because my experience couldn't have been more different. Let me address a few of the complaints I saw online: "The staff is rude or unfriendly"? Not at all. I found the team to be welcoming, patient, and clearly focused on the animals. They listened to what I wanted, asked questions to make sure they got it right, and treated my dog with genuine care. "Bad communication or language barriers"? Completely untrue in my visit. They spoke clearly, explained the grooming process, and confirmed every detail before starting. Even if someone's first language isn't English, their professionalism and love for animals come through loud and clear. "Pets are handled roughly"? Absolutely not. I observed how they treated my dog -- and others -- and saw only kindness and patience. My own dog is a little nervous around strangers and especially sensitive about his paws, and the groomer handled him so gently it was like they'd known each other for years. This is not some flashy pet spa trying to upsell you treats and bandanas. This is an experienced, neighborhood grooming spot where animals come first, and the people working here know exactly what they're doing. You can tell they've built trust with long-time clients over the years -- and now I understand why. So, whether you call it Popcorn Pawz or Riverdale Grooming -- this place is a gem. Great service, skilled grooming, fair pricing, and most importantly, my dog left looking and feeling fantastic. TERRIBLE NEGLIGENT SERVICE! I scheduled an appointment for 12pm and my dog wasn't ready until 4pm. My friend who I referred brought her dog at 2pm and her dog was ready at 3:30! Not only was my dog left for last, they DID NOT LISTEN WHEN I SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED NOT TO CUT THE TOP OF HER HAIR or TAIL! I brought her in February and they cut all of her hair off the top and it was starting to grow back and they cut it all off again after receiving several specific instructions not to do so AT ALL! They were very dismissive and rude especially the manager Johanna! Miguel did not listen when I told him what I requested for the second time in a row. Maybe if they didn't forget to groom my dog in a timely manner, perhaps they would have remembered the specific instructions! No reason dogs were being taken care of before mine and I'm not aware of the conditions my dog was waiting in. I'm going to be upset if she caught anything viral or bacterial. They refused to give me a refund or adjustment for their negligence. In fact the manger Johanna threaten to call the cops on me several times! And used the example if I was at a restaurant and I didn't like the food would I get my money back! I said absolutely, they remove it from the bill! It's called customer service and standing behind your brand or product! They were concerned with the money and their work shows for it! She said well the service was rendered and I was being loud and she's calling the cops and they were on their way. NEVER AGAIN! I'm so upset I ever went here and referred other customers! I took my 10 lb mini poodle rescue here for the first time in early January. I will not go back. I needed one of the upfront staff to translate what I wanted to Miguel. Miguel took her and walked toward the grooming rooms. My baby was already was crying and struggling at leaving me. Miguel stopped in the middle to talk to a staff member and she intensified her crying and struggling. I shouted at Miguel to leave but he didn't listen. I asked one of the others to tell him to leave as both my dog and I were so upset. When I returned to pick her up I she appeared traumatized. She did not look me in the eye nor did she appear happy to see me. That is not how she behaves towards me. Quite to the contrary. I knew something was wrong. I had planned to pay the posted rate for a 10 lb dog but was told that that rate was for yorkies and tiny dogs. I argued with them. The price list has no such delineation. It just says 10 lbs. I was told I could pay the posted price this time but in the future, I would have to pay the higher price. It took over two days for my baby to calm down. I wrote to them requesting a manager contact me but I have heard nothing. Now that I see the negative reviews of others, I am not going back, EVER! I am no longer a client of popcorn paws. I dropped my dog off left specific instructions on how I wanted him groomed with their receptionist. When my partner returned to retrieve our dog he was behind the front desk shaking. My partner couldn't even recognize him that's how totally different he look. She even told the her that's not my dog I have a Yorkie. Unfortunately there was no explanation due to the fact the groomer left. When I called the following day to speak to management. I was given an email to make any complaints with management. Which I found out is odd because any complaints you would want to do by speaking directly to your customer. I asked why was he groomed this way ? She was very apologetic and said she doesn't know why Miguel didn't follow instructions. I was even told my dog was crying after Miguel left and that's why she brought him to the front with her. I know it's not her fault she wrote down what needed to be done and passed it along to Miguel I saw that with my own eyes. When they reached back to me two days later they offered a free grooming appointment with apologies from Miguel. I found this unacceptable, I requested video and was totally ignored to my request. I requested a full refund and told them I find it very upsetting how they are handling this. They just lost a long time client. Good Afternoon, My name is Charlene Restituyo. My husband took my dog king for a grooming section on Sunday December 16, 2018at 10:00am. My husband told the groomer to be careful around the face area because they always cut it too low since he always gets swollen. We picked him up at 12:15pm Sunday December 16, 2018. The groomer did tell us that his eyes were irritated due to the cut. But after shortly when we decided to take Santa pictures king started to scratch a little and cry I thought he wanted to go home. Once arrived at home he started to cry more and I notice he started to bleed a lot so I called popcorn Paz and spoke to the senior manager who said come in. When I arrived I did not want anyone to touch my king I was scared, but she insisted on it and took him upstairs were they clean his eye and a cone was placed on his head. As per the senior manager she said it was an allergic reaction from shampoo I brought in to use for him. Which it was not because King would of had his whole entire body irritated but it was just the eye section. He uses this weekly at home since he has been a puppy. She recommended to apply hydrocortisone lotion around the area for relief. She is not a qualified vet to be recommended things for my dog. Specially when he is in pain. She even told me there's no point to take your dog to the vet they won't do anything it's just irritated. Plus they will charge me more money. An hour pass and King did not stop bleeding! I had no choice but to take him to the vet who checked on him and said there is are a cut on his right eye. They did the fluorescein stain exam which proved there's a big cut that king did not do to himself. Medicine was prescribed because it was really swollen and he couldn't open his eye. I had to pay for all of this! I went back to the senior manager for help maybe a little reimbursement for this but she refused too! Instead said I can read you the contract you sign before giving us your dog for grooming sections. Accidents do happen but you signed the contract! I found this to be completely disrespectful and unprofessional. I trust you with my dog and you hurt my dog and think is okay? It's not! She is not a license vet or qualified to be a groomer. She is just a manager. After a while she said email us regarding the situation which I am now. Please understand we have been loyal customers to this company. My dog has a grooming section once a month. That's 12 times a year a total of 1,056 dollars not counting tax and tips we spend here. Is there a way I can get reimbursed for this expenses. This grooming salon is conveniently located near me so I've tried it out a couple times. I've never been impressed with the grooming for my 5.5 lb Maltishu. I've always requested to keep her hair on the longer side but I think it's easiest for them to basically shave her which doesn't make sense since they are very expensive. My dog is very shy and lonesome after a haircut. She loves being under her shaggy hair and I like the way she looks with longer hair. I tried explaining to the groomer that I want him to leave her head and face longer but the body can be cut down. I told him leave the hair about an inch long on the face, which he replied "yea ill make nice and round" ok I guess that meant do whatever he wants. I know her hair will grow back so I'm not concerned however if you're doing whatever with people dogs than Atleast don't charge nearly $100.00 for a shave! read more

This groomer does the job. We have been using them since we moved to the area. They are friendly and clear about the pricing. The dogs are groomed in an upstairs area which is fenced off, so there is some reassurance that your pet will not be able to slip out by accident. They are definitely hardcore about making sure your pet is up to date on their vaccinations. One day paste due, and they will not accept you. Overall this is a testament to their commitment to safety. We have never had any problem with record keeping or lateness. The dogs come out looking cute, and they are in decent moods when I pick them up. My dogs are a little oversensitive, and they don't warm up to strangers. I was pleased that the transition to Popcorn Pawz went smoothly. My dogs are rescues so I am not too worried about the exact style. I was going here because it's close to home and they do a pretty okay job. However today - was probably the LAST time I go here. I made an appointment for my 16 year old shih tzu to get his hair cut. I was well aware that he has many knots and that his hair was probably going to be cut short - which was fine. (Mind you my dog is 16 years old and has had ALL OF HIS TEETH REMOVED) when I get upstairs I was horrified. It looked like they shaved his body and didn't touch his neck ears or face. I pay good money ($100) because my dog doesn't let me clean his face properly so when I go to a professional I'm assuming I'm paying them because they know what they're doing. I went in the other day for their grooming services for my one year old cockapoo. I usually go their for treats or apparel as they usually have good deals and offers. I also used to take my 4 year old labrador there for grooming and worked out very well, as they returned him to me smelling and looking fresh. When I went to pick up my cockapoo, I was really happy the way they groomed her. They did everything they were suppose to do, and took only 3 hours given the fact she is difficult to groom. The problem I had was that when she was so happy to see me she urinated out of excitement (it's her thing) and although I felt bad, their reaction made it seem as if it never happens. They were unpleased with the fact she urinated and had no problem showing it. Meanwhile, at many other places where I have taken her, when such a situation happens, it's all smiles as if it isn't a big deal. Which it shouldn't be, if you run a pet business, things like this happen, and after the accident happened the only feeling I had after was unwelcome. Since it's a habit of my dog to urinate when she's excited and does so whenever grooming is over, I no longer plan to take her to popcorn pawz again because of their reaction. I want to bring my dog to a place where she is recognized as a dog (it is likely for them to do business anywhere especially under certain circumstances). I would like to tell you about my experience at Popcorn Paws in Riverdale (Bronx NY). I called to make an appointment for my Maltese to get groomed by Miguel. I waited 2 weeks for this appointment because he was "booked". On the day of the appointment (11/24), my daughter dropped Lilly (my dog) off where Miguel welcomes her and takes her to the back. We were then called for pick up after about 2-3 hours and find our dog scared in her individual space. Once we get home we noticed that Lilly did not want to be petted by her head area (specifically) her ears. We also noticed her nails were not cut. I paid for a complete grooming experience (bathe, nails, teeth, ears cleaned, anal cleaned). After about 2-3 hours we noticed that she was cut behind her ear, I was completely horrified because she was crying when touched in the ear. When I began to question my dogs experience at this facility, I was informed that the groomer who I had booked and paid for was "over booked" and that an assistant groomed Lilly. I felt that I should have been notified if my dog was going to be treated by someone else. I was only informed about this when I questioned my dogs reaction at home after her experience at Popcorn Paws. As a customer, I believe in honesty and transparency especially when leaving our most precious animals in their care. No one notified me about the change in groomer or that she had been cut, or that her nails were NEVER cut. Today, I decided to get her groomed else where and was unable to do so because she began to bark excessively and as a result did not want anyone near her. Her experience at Popcorn Paws has caused trauma. Lesson learned DO NOT TRUST this establishment. They are not honest or transparent. This rating gets 0 stars. read more

I for one do not have time in my busy life to do reviews online. As a matter of fact this is probably the 2nd review i've even given in my entire life as the treatment and disrespect received by the Owner/Manager there was beyond humane. Up until last Wednesday I had never had a bad experience with this location. Rocky was well groomed and if he weren't I'd bring him back and they would groom him again free of charge. Yes appointments sometimes could be hard to get but i'm sure after a few more reviews this place will be out of business. I have been a customer for 2 years here. Last Wednesday I had a family emergency and had to leave the country. Rocky had his appointment and I had a young family member taking him. Yes I probably should have been prepared and left payment but with everything else I was dealing with it slipped my mind. It was not till after Rocky was done grooming when I got a call that they needed payment. I explained and apologized that I was out of the country and asked if they would take credit card payment over the phone or a check. The girl on the front desk really tried and wanted to help BUT the OWNER/MANAGER got on the phone Not only was he rude and disrespectful but then got personal. First of all I had no idea that it was store policy they didn't accept payment over the phone, but the Manager made sure he told me that over and over and that I was NOBODY for him to make an exception for. After 2 years of being a loyal customer this is how I am treated! When I asked what if I wasn't able to get someone there to pay till after they closed what would happen to my dog. He stated it wouldn't be a problem that they would only make more money cause they would have to take him and board him for the night and I'd be charged. So sad to say it is all about the money. All throughout my career I was always taught customers come first and customer service and respect. This established certainly lacked it. So of course they would not release Rocky and brought him back up. During this entire ordeal over the phone my friend whom was there could here the cleaning crew upstairs screaming "shut up and muzzle it" as dogs cried. I was so worried. Finally after a few hours I was able to get a friend to leave work to go pick up Rocky as I was concerned for his health, safety and well being. And sure enough I had reason to be. As soon as he came home and for 2 days all he did was throw up and wouldn't eat. I take full responsibility for my part and should have remembered to leave payment but when a family emergency comes up it becomes fight or flight! I will never bring Rocky here again. Rocky is thankfully doing ok now and I sure hope they didn't cause him any long term mental damage. Please beware do not bring your pets here! I've taken my dog (Blue) here twice for grooming (the second and third haircut he's ever received in his lifetime, he's 10 months old). I moved to Riverdale recently and I was so relieved to find out that there was a good grooming/pet store option down the street. Given that Blue has had so few grooming experiences, I was very nervous because I didn't want him to have a negative early experience with bathing and nail trimming in particular. It turns out that I didn't have anything to worry about because the staff continues to be fantastic every time I bring him in. They always manage to work around my schedule, Blue always looks fantastic and most importantly he always leaves happy. I have every intention of continuing to use Popcorn Pawz in Riverdale as my regular groomer. read more

Amazing! Took my dog to the store on Riverdale Ave. today and the groomer did an amazing job. My dog is not the easiest when it comes to his face but the groomer was able to trim his face beautifully and included the hair in his ears. The groomer listened to my needs. My dog was finished within 2 hours and the cost was not more than the big store groomers. I shop here also for my dog's food. They have a fantastic selection of top quality foods. I highly recommend this store, for grooming and your pets essentials. read more

Had a problem posting here so this will be brief. Brought my dog here to be groomed by I believe Jennifer. I was assured she was experienced with aggressive dogs. I was ready to leave when I saw they had booked another dog at the same time. She assured me she had an assistant. When I picked Max up the assistant handed the leash to me and put my tip in a jar without looking at it. I tip high and like to be thanked. Max had a cut in the corner of his eye and his eyeball was red which I discovered when I got home. I understand that things happen because I have a difficult dog. I should have been told about the injury and his ears had not been done as requested. Max will go back to Paw Prints of Harlem where Dianne grooms aggressive dogs one at a time before the store opens. read more

I love this place! My dog is well dressed & fed because of it! I used to have to go all the way to the PETCO on 86th Street to get his holistic food (Merrick) but now I am able to go here! It's only 10 minutes away from my home in the Bronx! Customer Service is A-mazing also! I also get my dog groomed here! He is no easy pickle believe me! I heard him howling because he was getting washed and the groomer Mario howled along with him which put my dog at ease after that he calmed down and enjoyed his spa day :) I could not recommend this place more! read more

I took my prince to the Riverdale location this past Sunday December 24. The manager calls me half and hour later and tells me that prince had fainted while his nails were being clipped and that he was crying and howling. I immediately thought that probably he was anxious and that probably that was the cause of him fainting, mind you my dog has never fainted or barked or howled before. They took him directly across the street to Riverdale veterinary group. When I got there I was received by José one of the workers of Popcorn Pawz. He told me that prince had fainted and when he(prince) got to the vet that he had pooped and urinated on himself and that he was very disoriented. A short time later José told me that everything was on video and asked me if I wanted to see the video. Looking at the video I was still in shock (crying)not knowing what was going on with my baby, but later realized that prince had fallen from the grooming table (he was not harnessed or leashed). Immediately the tech picked him up and that's when he fainted. My dog might have a brain injury, the bill was almost 400 (an IV and an x-ray of his body) dollars and they did not even offer to pay it. Christmas day I took him back to the vet so they could remove the iv shunt,I was told by one of the vet's tech that he was the second dog that was brought in from across the street, the first one had a broken pelvis. Have taken my dog in 3 times total so far, the first cut was mediocre - which i was ok with considering it takes time to adjust and figure out what an owner wants. The next time, barely any hair was removed, even though I explicitly asked for half the length to come off. Finally, just went there two weeks, and never will return again. My dog came out shaved almost to the skin with bold patches on the chest and legs. All 3 times were different groomers.... but with such unpredictable results, I could never trust them with my pup again. read more

Went in yesterday to get my nails trimmed. Called beforehand to see if the groomer was in, person on the phone was very friendly. Went into the shop, conveniently located on Riverdale Avenue. It is a little crammed in there, but not impossible to get around. I dropped off my dog and when I picked him up, I met the groomer who gave me advice on how to care for his nails. Very helpful people, clean environment, up to date with technology, etc! Great place!! read more
