Tip: This eatery is on Uber Eats. A few Saturdays ago, I was running errands. I needed to grab some dinner before heading home. I did a search on my Uber Eats app and found a BOGO offer on five chicken tenders at Popeyes. I could change the Popeyes location, as this offer was offered at multiple locations. I saw that this one in Markham was listed. I had never been to this location on Markham Road, between Major Mackenzie Drive and Castlemore Avenue. It was time to check it out. My order consisted of these items: - Five chicken tenders x 2 (BOGO), with sweet heat and signature dipping sauces (two each) - Mac and cheese I got an estimated time to pick up my order. I made my way over. I was heading eastbound from Richmond Hill. This eatery is located in a plaza with a bunch of stores. It's near a Subway that I've never been to. Several stores north of this eatery is a Chatime that I frequent often. I backed into a spot. I waited a few minutes, as I was early. Once I got the notification that my order was ready, I headed inside. This Popeyes was clean. It had a relaxed vibe if I were to dine in here. There was a male customer ahead of me in the lineup. He was placing an order that seemed more complicated than it should have been. The woman taking the order was patient. He repeated his order. It was more the number and types of sauces that sounded like a nightmare, but the woman got it right. He confirmed that she had everything. When it was my turn, I'm sure that my order was a breeze in comparison. I indicated that I had an Uber Eats order and rattled off my name. She nodded, confirmed that my name was there, and handed over my bag of goodies. I thanked her and walked out of the eatery. I then drove home, putting my food in an insulated bag. I had half the chicken tenders for dinner and saved the rest for the next day. The same held true with the dipping sauces. I devoured the mac and cheese. It was delicious. The cheese part was subtle, which was perfect. The chicken tenders were awesome. I have always had either fried chicken or wings. It was my first time having chicken tenders. They were huge, tender, and yummy. The tenders are white meat. I will order them more often now. As for the dipping sauces, I loved the sweet heat. The sweet part was subtle. The heat part was a slow burn at first. Once it kicked it, it worked well with the chicken tenders. I didn't like the signature sauce. It was all heat and burn. I'm not sure if it was simply hot sauce with cajun seasoning, but it wasn't yummy. I'd much rather have the sweet heat. The chicken tenders were equally as yummy the next day when I reheated them. I went with the sweet heat dipping sauce. Yes, if I could buy a bottle of it, I would. I liked coming here for chicken fingers, and mac and cheese. I'd return again when I'm in the area. the food here is horrible. I have been to many other locations that have great tasting food. I'm wondering if this is one of the locations that buy there chicken from garage freezers. the chicken always looks and taste old. it always has a dark color esp the spicy flavor. on top of that customer service needs to be improved as they are not great at following directions when you request certain parts of the chicken. every time i order 8-10 piece meal deal and request at least 4 pieces of drumsticks to be in the box or request for fresh batch of chicken I never get it. When this Popeye's first opened, I would have given them a solid 4 stars on their food. For the past 3 years now, we have had 1 or 2 incidents where we have had to go back or call in regarding issues with our orders (undercooked chicken). Having said that to clarify how often we have eaten there since they first opened their doors - we were picking up take-out at least 3-4 times a month. Based on my last visit there, this location needs ZERO stars. When the new chicken sandwich came out, we decided to go in and give it a try after all the hype we were hearing. What a HUGE disappointment! We ordered 3 combos - 2 with fries and 1 with rings. The patty was soggy, not crispy at all. I was speechless after seeing all of the commercials and posts on social media that this was THE sandwich to try out. No mayo on the bun and 2 sandwiches only had 1 small pickle inside. Well the problems didn't end there. I called in to ask what happened to the mayo & pickles. I received a half a$$ apology and an offer for 3 complimentary sandwiches on our next visit. It's not about the free food, it's the principle of it and not getting what I paid for. I wanted to return the sandwiches and get a full refund, but they refused and insisted they would make it better once I mentioned that. Fast forward 2 weeks later we decided to give them another chance. There were 4-5 people in line. The sandwiches were ordered, cashier was very polite and friendly. As soon as the credit was mentioned, she changed her attitude completely and went to get the manager. They berated my husband in front of the other customers and told him that after receiving the 3 sandwiches that he was not welcome back there. My husband asks why and the reply was "this is the 2nd time you have made a complaint, nobody complains about our food, you are not welcome here anymore". My husband stood there stunned! 2nd time in almost 7 years we had a problem with our food and instead of trying to make it right and ensure it doesn't happen again, they refuse service to customers. WOW!! Let me get this straight! The Yelp reviews, TripAdvisor reviews and Google reviews are all lies?!? Your restaurant is perfect and gets a 5 star every time? I have read so many reviews on this sandwich, this location and the quality and service. No surprise at the very low ratings on reviews. I tried reaching out multiple times to their head office, but clearly there is no customer service at Popeye's and they could care less about customer experiences and reviews. If you want to try a great chicken sandwich - head over to KFC and order their Famous Chicken Sandwich! Hands down 100% better than Popeye's $10 soggy sandwich. Me and my husband felt very dissatisfied with our experience at Popeye located on Highway 48 today. The cashier was dishonest with our order for the "Popeyes Saturday" We first ordered the "Saturday 5 Wings"($5.29) for myself then another "Saturday 5 wings" meal ( $5.29+ 1.29 medium Drinks + 1.29 Side ) for my husband. Then she asked me my choices of 2 sides but I said it should be only 1 side order. she insisted it is HER OFFER that I can get 2 sides then I said NO because at the end I don't need it. Most importantly she never mentioned to us the additional cost of the extra side order. She became very impatient with us and rolled her eyes at us, asked us if we were certain with our order. I replied yes just one "Saturday special 5 wings" and extra 1 set of "Saturday 5 wings meal with a side and drink. My husband then paid with his credit card. When we sat down and review the receipt, we realized the female cashier charged us total of $16.70. My understanding was the order should come up to be $14.87 in total. So we went back to clarify with the same cashier but her attitude was totally irresponsible. So my husband request to cancel the order and re-order again. At that moment, a different cashier (female) came to ASSIST and jumped to the conclusion to only refund $0.4 to end the disagreement. We obviously refused because we felt ourselves being deceived by both cashiers. Finally the store manager came and said he is willing to refund the total amount but took our receipt away. We requested to return our receipt for the proof of purchase. However he only refunded us $16.20 instead of $16.70. Again deceiving and being dishonest and irresponsible with the customer. Finally my husband took the receipt from the manager and the manager refunded another $0.50 to us. We left and decided to visit the location by Stouffville and ordered the same thing and result was highly satisfied. The staff at Stouffville did not up-sell us. They paid attention and most importantly they repeated our order before proceeding to the payment. We are fans of Popeyes, and since Highway 48 is my neighbourhood we usually visit this location once per month. The staff was well trained and nice, but after today I won't agreed with this anymore. 1. The first cashier was deceiving and not being cleared. 2. Not being honest handling customer's order 3. Refuse to admit the order was incorrect and excused herself that it was her offer. Then tried to hide the cost while up-selling "Her Offer". 4. impatient listening to customer's needs and gave bad attitude. Such as roll eyes and did not repeat the order before proceeding to pay. 5. Putting the fault on the customers in the result of us wanting to cancel and re-order again correctly. 6. The manager refused to return our receipt without explanation and commented us "stupid" in front of us. 7. after searching the menu thoroughly, a regular 5 piece wings combo cost only $8.29. I live in the area and this location is 5 minute drive from my house. I used to go to this location 1-2 times a month since they first opened. It's a real hit & miss with this location and not very much consistency with quality or portions and they have ZERO customer service or courtesy to customers. I was really excited to try their new chicken sandwich after hearing so many great raves and reviews from the United States about this item. Our mistake was going to this particular location and not a different one for something new we wanted to try. On October 4th, we stopped in to order 2 sandwich combos and a 3rd sandwich with an order of large onion rings. Don't be fooled by the pictures on their website or in store advertising, the sandwich looked NOTHING like the images or commercial ads - not even close at all. I wondered even if they gave us a different chicken sandwich. The chicken was so small, soggy and not crispy at all. There was no mayo on the sandwich and just 1 pickle. The bread was good, but i didn't spend $50 for bread. I immediately called the restaurant and asked to speak to a manager, the woman that answered wouldn't let me talk to the manager. She just asked what I was calling about. I mentioned the issues with the sandwich - soggy, no mayo etc. She gave me some excuse about the mayo saying there was "some" but it was absorbed by the bread and that it as an issue they were having. I asked why they wouldn't explain that to customers and offer mayo on the side? She had no explanation as to why the chicken was soggy, missing breading and not crispy at all. She talked to her manager and offered us 3 sandwich credits (not the value of what we spent). We were on the fence of going back at all, I really doubted that a revisit would give us a better product. However, after spending $50 on the previous visit and having a sandwich that looked and tasted like it was microwaved, we gave them another try. What a HUGE mistake that was! There were 2 people ahead of my husband in line and 4-5 behind him. When he got up to the counter to order and ask for the manager. The woman at the counter went to the back to talk to someone (manager) and then came back quickly. She put the order through but not before turning to my husband saying - this is the 2nd time you have had a complaint about our food, nobody complains, our customers are all happy with our food, we have very good online reviews, but you have 2x now complained, you are no longer welcome in our restaurant. (The first time was 5 years ago when our tenders were pink inside). WOW, because we spoke up about bad food & experiences twice in almost 8 years since they opened their doors, we are no longer welcome in their restaurant. This was also ALL communicated to my husband in front of the people ahead of him waiting for his food and the people standing behind him. One woman at the back of the line spoke up and said they were rude and she was appalled over what she was hearing, she walked out. My husbands answer was: When a meal costs $50 and you can't provide a customer what they ordered, a refund is the least you can do. The poor attitude and lack of customer courtesy is unacceptable, not necessary and that it was very disrespectful to be talked down to that way in front of other customers. Accept responsibility and be accountable for your mistake - especially after acknowledging it over the phone. AND, NO restaurant is perfect and without mistakes or bad online reviews. That was even confirmed further when we got home and looked up their reviews and saw many of the same complaints about undercooked chicken and bad reviews about how poorly they were making this new $10 chicken sandwich. We got home and emailed customer service, which was even worse to get through to. It has been 5 weeks and we still have no reply back or call from the operations team. Customer service clearly doesn't read the emails either because after sending the date, time, feedback and visit to them on our take-out order, they kept referring to our experience as an online order!?!? NEVER going back! They can keep their poor attitude, pink chicken and rubber chicken sandwich! Good luck staying in business with that attitude - and maybe start reading your online reviews, but they are NOT good, not even close! End note: We were approached in the parking lot by 1 customer that was ahead of us in line and the person behind us. They had nothing nice to say about the staff at the location as well. This is the better Popeyes location in Markham. I say better because their food is always good and they give you CONDIMENTS. I know it sounds crazy but giving you the appropriate amount of condiments is essential in running a local fast food chain. When you ask for ketchup and hot sauce, they give you enough that you won't go home with your take out, miserable that your remaining half bag of fries are deprived of the delicious sauce. Service is also always quick and speedy here. They never leave you waiting for more than 15 minutes. Even on busy Tuesdays with their daily special, food is served quickly and efficiently. I did take one star off because of the parking lot. Believe it or not I think this Popeyes is the busiest restaurant in the plaza. Much busier than Sushi Sushi, Subway, Pizza Nova, and even Tao Canteen. Or maybe because I came on a Tuesday night and Tuesday is their $2.99 2-piece special... I don't go to Popeyes much, but the first thing I took away from this place is that service is slow. I only ordered two of the Tuesday specials, but it still took upwards of 10 minutes for everything to come out. It definitely didn't feel like fast food service, per se. As for the food, I find the inside of the chicken better than the KFC, but KFC has better skin. Popeyes skin (at least the skin in this place) was too thick and constituted too much of the chicken. However, the chicken meat was much juicier than KFC, and was very hot as well, meaning freshly made. I don't mind either KFC or Popeyes, especially when it comes to their Tuesday specials. What can I saw about Popeyes that hasn't been said. I definitely like it way more than KFC! The chicken at this location is always perfectly cooked. It's almost always fried fresh. Most times you have to wait a bit because they are making a fresh batch. The coating is nice and crispy and the chicken is super juicy. I prefer the spicy over the mild. Honestly my favourite thing on the menu is the chicken strips. They all all white meat, super tender an nice and crispy on the outside. We ordered 3 pieces of chicken, tackle box combo and onion rings. Everything came out piping hot. Sounds good so far right? Problem 1: Onion rings. I've had Popeye's onion rings once in the last 6 months in Vaughn. They were great, best fast food onion rings I've had. These didn't look the same at all. These went straight from "too hot to eat" to limp, completely skipping the crispy stage. And the batter just wasn't right. Unless Popeyes changed them recently, I would guess these are not from Popeyes. Problem 2: They TRIED TO CHARGE FOR A REFILL. My gf went for a refill and got a free one no issues. I went up to a different lady and she told me it's $0.85. Ok, slightly irregular for fast food in Canada, but maybe the GFC has finally gotten to Popeye's. I offer to pay on my debit card. And immediately, she said "just forget about it." Hmmmm. VERY SUS. My family usually only come here when we run out of ideas for dinner and this location is within walking distance so it's perfect for those nights. The chicken is oily but that is a given for fried food. I came in here for the Thursday special but since i ordered 3 orders of it for the family, they had to cook some more chicken because they didn't have enough thighs. They told me it would be a 15 minute wait which was fine. Not the fastest service considering it's fast food place but I didn't mind I had to wait 30 minutes after the dentist to eat anyways. The girl at the cash was obviously new and had to keep asking the other employees for help which I understood. What kind of threw me off was that you could see into the back of their kitchen and see someone on their break eating. They had their hair down and backpack on the table. Not sure if that is a designated employee tables but it was close enough to the kitchen to make me wondering food handling procedures here. My mom loves the chicken at Popeye's, so i pop in every week before i head to her place nearby. Terrible customer service (if you want to even call it that) at this location. They are so rude and never willing to accommodate orders if you want to add or change a piece from their dinners. They just want to charge extra for everything. Which makes you pay more for that than the meal itself. Chicken is ALWAYS to spicy especially the kids meals, i ask for mild all the time. I am a fan of fried chicken, I have to admit; however, Popeyes fried chicken is definitely not my go to when it comes to fried chicken. In a bind, I would definitely have some, but if I had to choose between this place and several other fried chickens, I wouldn't choose Popeyes. That being said, this location is ok in a sea of less than premium fast food shops. They have some good daily specials, but I definitely don't make it a habit to come here. We go to this Popeyes fairly often as it is close to our house. The food is good and the service is generally polite although not overly enthusiastic. Once we went in just before closing and got some extra chicken in our bucket because the owner didn't want to throw them out. The last time we went though it took 18 minutes from the time we placed our small order until it was handed to us and we walked out AND the chicken got packed up and THEN the guy who took our order told the kitchen to put some fries in the oil, not exactly 'fast' food. There was also a shrill woman talking loudly in the front office the entire time we were there, but it was late and maybe staff were just joking around to pass the time? On Wednesday September 16th I went the Popeyes restaurant at 9830 Markham Rd In Markham Ontario, to buy 3 of your new chicken sandwich. This would be the 3rd time this week I purchased these sandwiches, but this time I found something very strange. I felt the sandwich was a lot smaller then the other 2 times I've had it. Every time I had it, I was in a different restaurant, but this time I felt like the restaurant used a different chicken piece for the sandwich, it was a lot smaller. Now you can say it was just that sandwich, however I bought 3 of them and there all the same small chicken patty. This is the new sandwich that started in Canada this week. I didn't go back to the restaurant to complain because they would simply deny it. That's why I'm emailing you this issue. I felt like I was ripped off. I've had the same sandwich 2 separate times before that and I can honestly say the chicken was a lot smaller this time around. I emailed your head office on September 18th and Jessica said she would forward the complaint to the right department. I heard nothing, then I emailed again on September 30th and was given this number 1 (877) 767-3937. I called that number on October 1st and explained the situation and requested a district or an area manager to speak to. 20 Minutes later I get a call from the store manager or the owner of the same store. I don't want to speak with them, I want to speak to a district manager so I can properly address my complaint. If the store owner was ripping people off they will sweep it under the rug. Since then I have now had the sandwich at least 3 or 4 more times and I can confirm they used a much smaller chicken fillet then the one that was suppose to be used. I am asking to speak to a District manager or Area Manager of this area. I don't want a franchisee or store. I've been going to this Popeye's for years now since I live about a 2 minute drive away from it. The food here is decent, usually pretty fresh as it is busy most of the time. You need to pay for refills here, which is weird but they have always charged people for it. I always order the tenders here as they usually always have to make it fresh and the tenders gotten a lot bigger over the years. You can always get fresh food if you know they hadn't prepared it beforehand. For example the Tenders and sandwiches are 90% going to be made fresh so give it a bit of time. Chicken will most likely be off the heat lamps so don't expect fresh chicken if on a non busy time. The chicken is usually pretty oilly too. Mash potatoes are decent not much to say, onion rings are the worst here, I tried them 10 times in the course of 2 years they always have been the same. Bland and soft, the worst for onion rings. The biscuits are pretty good here, you can tell they are fresh if their warm and slightly crunchy. Fries here are not bad, they taste best fresh but you rarely get them real fresh unless you go in when there is nobody there or near before closing. Overall food is 3.5/5 best is tenders, sandwiches and biscuits. I also tried every thing on the menu. The service is slow sometimes, usually around 10 minutes and longer when they have to make the food fresh for you. They also lie most times when they give you an estimate for the food, such as "5-6 minutes for tenders" I waited upwards of 10. When you know the staff there for some time they start to give you a little more than others, like a bit more fries or a extra tender which is a nice surprise. They are more welcoming to regulars and like it when you know what to order and order it fast, they will always ask for mild/spicy, side and drink so be prepared. They don't like it if you want to pay with credit/debit on an order smaller than $5, they say they cant accept it but I've done a couple times so they lie a bit for their own comfort. Restaurant itself is pretty nice, they keep it clean and maintain it pretty well. It gets pretty packed on certain times so I tend to go when I know it isn't as bad so either right when they open 11-11:30, 2-4, 8-10. Food is also fresher on these times as they have to make it fresh because less people are there. Overall its not bad but could be better so I rate it 3/5 as they can do a lot better, but as the closest fried chicken restaurant to me, I won't complain much. read more

A nice clean location for a growing town. The staff is nice and professional. They know how to work efficiently and quickly. It's a nice place to sit down and enjoy the many options Popeyes has to offer. The store has an updated look to it making it a nice place to eat. Overall, this store is pretty awesome. read more
