After saying i would never go back to this place again I decided to give it another try (terrible decisio). Arrived and ordered at 6:36 pm on 3 Feb 26 out of Cole slaw, spicy chicken with be a few minutes, ice machine for drinks not working. Several customers arrived with smaller orders were served and departed, one gentleman eating in returned to counter three times to get correct order. 6:50 I was asked sir have you ordered yes 15 minutes ago. Finally at 7:10 sir your order is read. Picked it up and based on past experience decided to check for correctness and as in the past it was wrong returned to the counter and approached the young lady that had taken my order and showed the box with two pieces of chicken on a three piece order she did not understand three pieces on the receipt and two pieces in the box explained the difference to her and while showing her the second box she shook her head threw the receipt on the counter and walked away to the back of the store after waiting approximately five minutes for her to return and fix the order one of the other employees went to the back to get her upon returning she apologized and asked what I wanted to complete the order she was told two LEGS would be fine at which time she proceeded to cram two THIGHS into a two piece box to complete the three piece orders. At this time I decided to take my order and depart as there were several people still waiting. I might add a gentleman apparently a friend came in laughing with the employees who stopped fixing an order they were working on and threw several pieces of chicken in a box handed it to the guy who then departed with a thanks for fixing me up. My boyfriend ordered in the store from Popeyes Neptune Beach location last night, Tuesday, 7/29/25. While the food was good when he finally got it, the service was horrendous! It took approx 30 min to get the food. After about 20min of waiting he asked the girl at the counter how much longer it would be. Apparently that was absolutely not acceptable to her. She proceeded to berate him in front of everyone in the restaurant and tell him how impatient he was. Popeyes in Neptune Beach impressed me this afternoon. I went in to try the new chicken nuggets. The store has been newly remodeled and thankfully they fixed the drive-thru as the asphalt had been bad for years but now it's new and free of potholes. I placed my order and in less than 2 minutes it was served to me. I ordered the eight count with Mardi Gras mustard and blackened ranch sauces. The nuggets were hot with just the right amount a breading to make them crunch. The chicken meat was moist and fried perfectly. Bonus, they were not too greasy. I also had the coleslaw which had a little more mayonnaise than I prefer but was still tasty. I didn't eat the biscuit as I'm watching my carbs. And the fountain Pepsi was crisp and refreshing. Service was fast and friendly and I give the new chicken nuggets five stars! I preferred dipping in the Mardi Gras mustard sauce and it had a little kick. read more

Well I hope this place gets it together...I understand how most fast food places are short staffed these days, but I noticed this place was in shambles the moment I arrived at the drive-thru. The sign was missing a menu panel, the speaker to order food was unintelligible, all customers ended up ordering face-to-face at the pay window. On top of that, it took forever for a simple 4-piece chicken meal, only to be told all they have are drumsticks and breasts. Not wanting to wait any longer than I already have, I agreed to it so I can finally go home. The chicken I received was dry, overcooked, and tasted as if it had been under a hot lamp all day. What strikes me as strange is this particular place used to have really great food. Whether it was just a bad day, the short staff, the pandemic, or otherwise...Im not likely coming back. That may not mean much coming from a single customer, but I just hope this place gets it together and soon....If I were the owner of this franchise, Id be really ashamed and embarrassed to conduct business under those conditions. I'm from New Orleans, so I've been eating Popeyes Fried Chicken for a long time. Even before it was called Popeyes, by Al Copeland, the founder, as a matter of fact. I've eaten at Popeyes in approximately 35 states, and two other countries besides the U.S. I love Popeyes. Specifically, the spicy chicken, the jambalaya (not served at most stores in most states) and the red beans and rice. However, sometimes the service levels at different stores are wildly different, with some stores woefully inadequate to the task of providing efficient and friendly service to patrons. This store is a little schizophrenic in terms of service. Sometimes OK, and sometimes laughably inept. I would guess that I've dined here about 20 times and gotten takeout here another 6 times. There is tremendous turnover in terms of the staff, and many of the employees seem to be working there because they can't get a job somewhere else, or because it's near the bus stop. So, a lot of them just don't care about their work, or your satisfaction, and sometimes, it shows. Just an interesting side note: When you walk into a Popeyes anywhere in the U.S. (except for New Orleans), the cashier will ask you, "Do you want regular or spicy chicken?" When I was younger, and used to walk into a Popeyes in New Orleans, the cashier would ask, "Do you want regular or mild?". Because everyone gets spicy in New Orleans. They feed that spicy chicken to little babies there. And if you did by chance say you wanted mild back in the day, the girl would just put her hand on her hip, cock her head, and say (quizzically), "For true?". Like, are you kidding me? Anyway... I'm giving this store 4 stars. The chicken and red beans and rice are (over) 5 stars, and the place itself is a 3-star joint, so 4 stars is the type of equilibrium we're looking for. Now, here is something special that you can do to make Popeyes red beans and rice takeout into something much more delicious, and it's easy, and inexpensive. How much more delicious? I would say, five times more delicious. That's a good ROI (return on investment)! INGREDIENTS: Popeyes Red Beans and Rice (takeout) Package(s) of Hillshire Farms Smoked Beef Sausage (pre-cooked) (shown in accompanying photo and readily available in the U.S. at almost all supermarket chains) Extra virgin olive oil or butter Black pepper White pepper Red pepper STEP BY STEP: Buy as many large containers of red beans and rice that you're going to need in order to feed the people at your house. Go home, and put those in a pot, add a very little bit of water, and simmer at low temperature (don't use medium or high heat - red beans burn very easily). Stir occasionally. Cut the sausage (packaging shown in photo) into one-inch or two-inch wide slices (your preference), and place, one side down flat, into greased (butter or extra virgin olive oil) pan at medium temperature. Liberally sprinkle (I coat the slices) black pepper, white pepper and red pepper on the sausage slices. Don't worry about putting too much on; you're going to turn the slices over and most of the pepper is going to burn off when you do. Brown (heavily) the sausage on side facing down. Then turn the slices over, and heavily brown the side that has all the pepper. This won't take too long - remember, the sausage is already pre-cooked in the package. When the sausage is done browning on both sides, pour out the red beans and rice into a bowl, add as many of the sausage slices in there as you like (I like a lot, but it's your preference), and that's it. You're done! Grab a big spoon (not a fork!) and go to it. It's so good you'll think you found a brand-new love, my friend. A couple of notes: Do not substitute other kinds (kielbasa, turkey, chicken and Applewood, breakfast sausage, etc.) of sausage for the sausage shown, using the logic, "Oh, I'm sure it will be just as tasty." No, it certainly will NOT be anywhere near as tasty. Plenty of people make this rookie mistake. The only other sausage I use is andouille or boudin sausage, which are from Louisiana and are not readily available in most places in the U.S. And I wouldn't say those are even necessarily better-tasting for this - it's just more traditional. If you're serving a number of people, you may want to add the sausage to the red beans and rice in the pot before serving out portions to everyone. Once people taste the sausage with the read beans and rice, they'll pile on the sausage if they're serving themselves, and then there won't be enough meat left for the people at the end of the line.
