Long time visitor, first time reviewer. I know, I know. About time. What is there to say about Sub Cultured that hasn't been said already? Everything on the menu is delicious, the staff is wonderful, and they stand up to bigotry in their own backyard. You can't get much better than that. The only drawback (if you can even consider it one) is just figuring out a good time to arrive to avoid a line. Regardless, even if there is one, the staff moves through it quickly and efficiently. As Sub Cultured is a walk-up window, there's some outside tables to sit, as well as the option of sitting in your car for that car-hop action. Otherwise, you're so close to the beach and parks that taking your sandwiches for a picnic isn't a bad idea either. If you can't find parking immediately at Sub Cultured, there's a little shopping center just next door since there doesn't seem to be much for street parking outside of their handful of spots. All of that said, I'm a transplant to Jacksonville via the Navy since 2004. One of the biggest cravings that I have from back home is a real authentic sausage, pepper, and onion grinder. I can't even begin to describe to y'all how great Sub Cultured's is with that spicy Italian sausage and perfectly cooked peppers and onions. The sandwiches were really good, and the French fries were delicious as well. Unfortunately, the Chicken Caesar Salad was a bit disappointing. The chicken was very dry, although the vegetables were fresh, so I wish the chicken had been better prepared. One more thing I noticed was the parking situation. I felt the parking lot is located in a somewhat dangerous spot. While we were waiting for our food, we saw a car backing out from in front of the restaurant and stopping a vehicle that was coming down the street. Came here off a recommendation from some friends after recently moving beachside. Had high expectations, but I usually do for food. Went here for lunch, requested to-go, ordered The Godfather with salt + pepper added, was ready in 10 min. You ever take a bite of food, take a deep inhale and just say "oh my god" to yourself? Yeah, so that happened. The creamy house made Italian sauce had me hooked and the balance of flavors + textures brought it home. I'd only had the amazing cheesesteaks before but remembered seeing a review about how good the Pizza Poutine is, so I gave it a try. Great choice! I ordered the bisque on the side since I was taking it home to eat. Despite the travel time, the fries were still crisp and the heat had warmed the curds and slightly melted the fresh parm. YUM! Might take the cake for my favorite sub in Jacksonville. The fries are so good and you have to get it with the ranch. Service is always quick and the guy working is so friendly. I guess I'm the unpopular opinion on this one... we have been wanting to try it for probably three years, but every-time we go by, there is no parking, and people waiting for their food look like they want to fight someone. We finally decide to brave it; I called ahead to try and decrease wait time. They quoted me 20 min. By the time we fought for a parking spot, drove there, and I paid, it had been around 15 min. Our TWO sandwiches took an additional 40 minutes. That was absolutely insane. I get maybe being wrong by 10 or even 15 min, but we waited almost an hour in the sun with a bunch of other frustrated people for 2 sub sandwiches. The food itself? The Philly is no where near the best in the city. It was dry and extremely salty. The Hit Man was actually incredible; I really enjoyed it. This was the best part of the entire experience. They also charged over a $1 for a 2 oz of sauce. The "ranch" tasted like Ceasar dressing; very very odd. Idk, I guess I'm the odd ball bc this place has amazing reviews, but I wasn't a big fan of the experience. read more

We had the Bulgogi with Hawaiian Sweet Onion chips and Boylan Red Birch and Regular Birch Beer(rootbeers). They have outdoor seating, bathrooms are available (that's the best I can say about them). Seating area has pretty loud music( not offensive ) and lots of traffic. Parking is sketchy and limited. However, make the stop for the sandwiches. They are supreme and plentiful, and their flavors will delight an extensive palate. The Bulgogi has tender Korean pork shoulder, aolis, and seasoned grilled onions. It is savory. We had driven past this place many times and finally stopped by and OMG we wished had come sooner. The sandwich's are legit! We got the grilled Montreal which was very good, but I think the real hidden gem of this place is the fries. They have many different versions of poutine and other combos , we got the gypsy fries which have steak,cheese, peppers and onions sooooo yummy. Really good customer service, super friendly and helpful if you are a little overwhelmed by all the awesome choices. My husband and I decided to do Cheesesteak and Italian Hoagie taste test between Sub Cultured and Surfwich. Full transparency my husband preferred The latter however I preferred Sub Cultured's version of both the Cheesesteak and Italian. Honestly even my husband admitted it was very close because they were so good. The Sub Cultured sandwiches were smaller but they also did not cost as much and every single bite was packed with flavor! The Cheesesteak was made with cheese wiz aka the right way. The cheese and meat paired perfectly together and made for an ample flavor profile. The Italian hoagie was delicious and had some added seasoning I wasn't expecting but was so glad it was there. Each bite was better than the last and each bite was different than the last. I cannot wait to go back to Sub Cultured and maybe this time I can prove to my husband he is wrong! read more

Finally made it to Sub Cultured have hearing about it for a very long time. We ordered online and went with the Philly and the Godfather ( their version of an Italian). When I arrived for pick up I did end up waiting about 10 minutes more then my pick up time but I can get that. I ordered during lunch time on a Saturday so I did set myself up for that. I will say this way I knew my subs were fresh and had not be sitting around. For the Philly I went with steak, onions, and wiz of course. If you're getting a cheesesteak with provolone you are doing it wrong. I will say the sub is smaller then the cheesesteak I got at another location but it is also cheaper. The roll was soft but able to hold all the meat and cheese in without getting soggy which is extremely important. The steak was tender and the wiz was the perfect amount of creamy and salty. For sure a top 3 cheesesteak in Jax The Godfather was also very good and on the same type of roll as the Philly. It was piled with the classic Italian meats and provolone. One thing I really liked was that there was more provolone then I was expecting and who doesn't like more cheese. I also really liked the House Creamy Italian sauce that was one it that really pulled it all together. The only thing I thought I was missing was Sweet Peppers but I'm sure that's something I could add next time. For sure come move it into the top 2 if not number 1 Italian in Jax for me. I will for sure be back to Sub Cultured to try both the Godfather and the Philly again. I will say though after checking out the Bulgogi Hoagie that is calling my name and is like nothing I have ever see at a sub shop. Also gotta get me some poutine too.
