Unfamiliar with great eats options in Jax, I relied on a coworker who is local to offer up a suggestion. I went with him here and loved it. Parking will cost you (think it was $8 for 3 hours) but there's plenty of parking options. The restaurant sits on the corner and faces towards the beach (although you can't see the beach). It was pretty packed inside and a reservation is recommended. I liked the busy atmosphere. We started with a modelo and oysters. There were some beers on tap they ran out of for the evening. The oysters were good, but shall we than I expected. I opted for their snapper special: pan seared over jasmine rice with string green beans and a nice sauce underneath. It came out looking like a 5 star meal and tasted as such. One of the best red snapper entrees I've had!. It's hard not to give 5 stars when the fish is this amazing! Actually have been here a few times since my lower rating, and enjoyed a lot. To be fair, I should have updated my rating then. We came again for Father's Day- reservations made in advance. Seated on time, seated on the top- by the window, quieter than downstairs and a wonderful view. Server was great. Food: Calamari- only ok, not a lot of flavor at all. I would definitely recommend getting a reservation here because it gets really busy! Also because if you're celebrating something, they have a cute little board with your name on it in the front! The grilled octopus & white bean salad was really nice and light. The texture of the octopus was decent too for being grilled. After our appetizer, it did take quite a while for our entrees to come. But again they were pretty busy so it was understandable. Just be aware if you're waiting on timed parking! We didn't realize until after, but apparently valet parking is validated here! I really liked the sauce of the spicy seafood linguine. The spice is pretty subtle, and overall the dish was basically clam pasta with some extra seafood. I really liked the scallops in this dish. The broiled seafood platter was probably my favorite of the night. All of the seafood was delicious of course, but the potatoes were kind of the highlight for me. They were super creamy, especially when they absorbed all the seafood juices. I will say though, in the moment, nothing tasted too salty, but going home, I was sooo thirsty the rest of the night. I've been numerous times over the years, this latest visit was for a large birthday party- so large, we basically took over the upstairs! Quay was our personal server and I think he was our bartender too- although there was another person back and forth behind the bar. We added a little chaos to the mix with a handful of family who showed without rsvp-ing. Add in toddlers plus easily 15 people.... Yeah- mad respect for Quay!!! I admit to being sad that I couldn't get my broiled platter- that is my favorite Fish Camp dish, and apparently not available for lunch. I pivoted and got the steam pot for 2. For myself. And guess what- I ate all the crab, hmmm so happy! Laugh- it was hilarious, I was still cracking crab while everyone sung happy birthday! I was thrilled. I brought home most of the potatoes, corn and such- it even had mushrooms and broccoli! YUM! My old fashioned was also perfection in a glass. John had the shrimp and fish basket and loved every bite. Several raved about the shrimp and grits. Caron loved her mahi mahi. Connor got the Spicy Wild Caught Shrimp Linguine with White Wine, Garlic, Tomato, Pecorino and inhaled it! Even the kiddos were super happy with the kids chicken strips, although the kitchen delivered the first plate to the wrong toddler and the lovely parents didn't question how they got food without ordering and that little girl dug right in. We were actually going to AB kitchen in Atlantic beach but wound up at North beach Fish camp which is right across the street in Neptune Beach. Bith restaurants have the same owner, surprisingly! We found parking right in front of the latter. Eric, our server gave us the run down since we have never been in here before. It was worth the trip to Neptune/Atlantic Beach. Wifey had the chicken w, grits and collars greens. I had the Baja tacos. Both of us had a cup of the blue crab soup with real crabs. Wifey had the mimosa of course. I had the legendary bloody Mary. Wow - what an unexpected gem! We came in for a late breakfast/early lunch around 11:30 a.m. and were completely wowed by the specials. I had the cod served over coconut jasmine rice with a coconut sweet potato purée - absolutely outstanding. My honey ordered the blackened mahi on a brioche bun with avocado and aioli, along with their famous French fries, and it did not disappoint. The service was exceptional. Our server was friendly, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable about both the menu and daily specials. He was also attentive to my gluten intolerance and even checked with the chef about one of the recipes I asked about. To our surprise, the chef came out personally to explain how he prepared the Thai-inspired cod dish - talk about above and beyond! North Beach Fish Camp in Neptune Beach knows how to set the stage. The dining room hums with energy, the servers have the rhythm of regulars and tourists alike, and the specials sound intriguing enough to suggest ambition. But ambition, as we found out, does not always pay off. The appetizer, Scallops Rockefeller, arrived in their own shells, a clever nod to the original. Rich, decadent, and neatly plated, they promised much more than they delivered. These were bay scallops, not sea scallops, tiny in size and small in impact. Four bites in total, more amuse bouche than appetizer, and at odds with the grandeur of the name. My entrée, a ribeye topped with pimento cheese, Cheerwine BBQ sauce, and onion straws, was another case of more being less. Each element had merit on its own; the pimento cheese with a sharp bite, the BBQ sauce sweet and smoky, the onion straws adding crunch. Together, though, they fought for attention, overwhelming the steak and one another. I ended up scraping the cheese into a pile, wondering why it had been there at all. The steak itself, cooked to mid-rare, was fine but underseasoned. The sauce saved it from mediocrity, though not entirely. The broiled seafood platter across the table fared better. Shrimp and scallops cooked well, their flavors deepened by butter. The cod, unfortunately, leaned too far into dryness. Satisfying enough, though not memorable. At $130 for two, North Beach Fish Camp positions itself as an upscale neighborhood spot. That positioning is fair, but the execution lags behind the promise. The setting suggests refinement, the plates suggest restraint might serve them better. 3 out of 5 stars A place with charm and energy, but not enough on the plate to justify the price. read more

I drove all the way from PV to get a my specific favorite meal. The place has awesome food and typically good service. Somewhat loud, but otherwise a great atmosphere. I ordered my meal at the same time as 2 of my friends AND at least 15 minutes before my other friend. Their meals came out within 15/20 minutes. I also observed other tables that sat way after us at the bar and were also getting their meals in a timely manner. After 30 minutes I asked where my food was and they said it was coming. I watched 2 other identical dishes go out to tables that were seated after me. At 45 minutes I asked again for my dish and they couldn't figure out what happened. At the hour mark, ALL my friends were done with their food and I had to cancel my meal. I was offered an apology but no credit and no free meal for the mistake. At this point, a credit or at least a meal to go would've been appropriate considering I frequent the establishment its just common courtesy. This is bad business period. I'm not sure the manager even knew because he may have remedied the situation but the arrogance to not even offer me a credit or gift card was astounding. read more

I used to absolutely love this place. It was our go-to for seafood, celebrations, family dinners, and special occasions for years. We recommended it constantly and genuinely enjoyed supporting them. Unfortunately, after our last few experiences, that loyalty is completely gone. The problems really started during a dinner visit with my spouse. We had a reservation for two and specifically requested a booth because my spouse has herniated discs and booths are much easier on her back. The hostess with glasses told us there were "no booths available for parties of two," so we were seated at a tiny two-top directly in front of an empty booth. Minutes later, another couple - who apparently didn't even have the correct downstairs reservation because Wheel House was closed for a private event - was seated in that exact booth instead. When I politely questioned it, I was told they were "accommodating them." Interesting, because apparently accommodating a medical issue for customers with a reservation didn't matter. Still, we decided to give the restaurant another chance for Mother's Day. To their credit, we were seated at a booth this time after I both noted it in the reservation and called ahead to confirm it. Our waiter was someone we immediately recognized from a previous visit, and my parents mentioned he had waited on us before at that same table. Somehow, from that comment alone, he became convinced we were related to Chef Tim Tillus. From there, things got bizarre. He kept talking about "Timmy," mentioning reunions and saying he used to live with him. The restaurant was extremely loud, and my father had forgotten his hearing aids that day, so honestly we could barely understand what he was talking about. We just smiled politely and focused on asking about the menu because we truly had no clue where the conversation was going. Eventually, he came back and realized we were NOT Chef Tim Tillus' family. He then explained that the kitchen staff had apparently been laughing because the chef saw us and said, "That's not my family." So somehow this became a whole ordeal in the kitchen over a completely innocent misunderstanding. We laughed awkwardly because what else do you do at that point? But honestly, the whole interaction felt strange and unprofessional. Unfortunately, the food was even worse than the awkward service. My spouse ordered the all-day seafood soup, and somehow there was basically ZERO seafood in it. That alone was shocking because their soups used to be incredible. My father ordered the broiled platter, and the portion size was honestly embarrassing for a $29 dish. His parsley potatoes consisted of literally five tiny cubes - my mother counted them because we were in disbelief. We have eaten here for years and NEVER saw portions this small. I ordered the fish special, and it was nothing like described. It was supposed to have pecans and blackening seasoning. There were no pecans, no blackening seasoning, and the fish itself was dry, bland, overcooked, and flavorless. For $32, I was served what looked like a tiny sad pile of fish in the middle of a giant empty plate. The pork chop looked beautiful but tasted absolutely awful. At this point I honestly don't know if the kitchen quality has completely collapsed or if nobody is checking food before it leaves the line anymore. Either way, it was terrible. My mother ordered scallops on the half shell as her meal - something she has enjoyed there many times before. This time, the scallops were tiny and somehow greasy. It was shocking these dishes were even leaving the kitchen. What makes this so disappointing is that we truly loved this restaurant. We weren't casual customers. We supported this place for years because we believed the food and experience were worth it. This wasn't just a mediocre meal or an "off night." This was a genuinely terrible dining experience from start to finish, made worse by the fact that it happened on Mother's Day. The service felt awkward and disorganized, the portions were insulting, the food quality was awful, and there seemed to be zero quality control happening anywhere. At this point, our money will be supporting other establishments instead. It's honestly sad because this place USED to be special. I sincerely hope management fixes the kitchen, consistency, and overall professionalism before even more longtime customers walk away. read more

Ordered the Fish of the Day which is Seabass with fries and coleslaw at market price for $23.95 and it was just cooked right and tasty. For drinks, we got the Red Sangria and the Veterans United Pilsner to complement our meals. Awesome service from Chris who was so attentive and made sure we got our food. Very chill atmosphere as the weather is just right to catch some sun. First of all, this is my fourth time here and each time, I've got to tell you, is better and better. We showed up today for breakfast/brunch, but the upstairs was closed for an event. I was disappointed, but knew I was still gonna get a great meal! Today, I started with a cup of Crap Soup. Truly blown away! If you're a seafood lover and a local or visiting the Jacksonville area, you must visit North Beach Fish Camp! Reservations fill up quickly, and we were behind on booking so it was an hour wait when we walked up to put our name in for a table, but the experience and food was worth every second of the wait. Since we had some time to kill, we chose to start with drinks and apps at a nearby restaurant that didn't have a wait at all. However, we knew we wanted to save room for a meal at Fish Camp. We decided to share the Low Boil for Two, and let me tell you... it was more than enough food for two! Truly some of the best seafood I've had in a long time. It came with a platter of Shrimp, Clams, Andouille, Corn, Broccoli, Mushrooms, Onions, and Snow Crab. Definitely recommend ordering this dish for anyone looking to get a taste of everything they have to offer. Cooked to absolute perfection, and the spice level was just right. Our outdoor table was perfect for the evening and a late meal, but they offer a ton of seating indoors as well. We were told they added tomato on top which was the furthest from the truth. My wife pushed back that you don't put "in a white wine sauce" on the menu and then have it cooked in a tomato sauce. They offered to swap it so she got the salmon, and said it was amazing. We both had two of the daily Specials and also tried the scallop ceviche. We ended the meal with the white chocolate cranberry bread pudding and let me tell you this was the best. We would go back just for this. The cod and mahi special were amazing and the flavors complimented each other well. Our only complaint was the blackened spice was a little heavy and alone it was heavy in the salt but with all the other parts of the dish it worked well.
