Had a craving for street tacos and this was a location close to where I was staying. Came in about 45 minutes before closing and place was still busy. Quickly seated, provided chips and salsa then ordered house margarita (have short or tall size, short pictured). Food was good, unfortunately I used a little too much hot sauce that over powered my street tacos. Margarita was ok, nothing to write home about and also available frozen if desired. Staff was friendly and quick along with kitchen getting the food out rapidly. Great location to fill taco Tuesday needs in relaxed atmosphere with music and TV at bar seating if desired. Our new favorite Mexican restaurant! Very clean, and nicely decorated! We were quickly seated and our drink order was taken immediately as well as chips and salsa delivered to the table. Our second chance visit. I ordered a enchilada with rice and beans. Simple enough, I thought. The rice and beans were cold and the enchilada had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. The hubby ordered the 3 taco special with a side of rice and beans.....both ordered a drink, had our first "complimentary" small basket of chips and salsa. we also ordered queso on the side, which had separated ( had to be mwlted and mixed with water or milk). This is a real Mexican Restaurant. Their selections of both Food, Tequila and Wines are excellent and far above the average restaurant. I would wholeheartedly recommend them. The Sangria is very good but don't make the mistake I did by starting with the smallest glass. read more

We have eaten there several times with our family. The new Owners/Management is horrible. Very disappointed the last two visits. Cold food, tough steak, no refills on all our drinks, just to mention a few. Ordered Maria's Burritos $14.25 and with that price, the meal came with NO SIDES. A little bit of grated cheese on top, no beans and no rice. We will not be going back there. Too many excellent Mexican Restaurants to waste my money with them. read more

This is our new go to spot! It's small and intimate with beautiful paintings all over the walls! It's family run. Literally dad runs kitchen and makes the drinks and daughters run the tables. So cool. PROS: service- our waitress was hilarious and so sweet and attentive! Best salsa I've ever had! Homemade!! Spicy and sweet! Secret recipe dad makes!!! They sent me home with extra! $2.99 margaritas and long islands for happy hour 4-7 pm. OMG THE BEST MARG IVE EVER HAD! No mixer! Homemade lime mixture. So fresh and so strong!!!!!! I would drive by all the time on Sundays and was always curious about how the food tasted. Finally got to try it and it did not disappoint. There's a reason why every table was filled and the parking lot was packed. The tacos were packed with meat which was tender, juicy, and packed with lots of flavor. Well I will start this off by saying I AM A HUGE MEXICAN FOOD LOVER. Everything about it just makes me happy. I have one place I usually go to BUT will be making the travel to Casa Leon as well because the service plus the food was just simply perfect. They have great margaritas and their cheese dip is delectable. You can tell they make their salsa fresh in house. I loved their guacamole as well. The best part is as it was coming to their closing time it was like they all came together as a family and you could just feel the love in the place. Everyone was so kind to us. I love Casa Leon! I have to search through a lot of pictures to find theirs but everything I've had has been good. Rice, beans, salsa, churros, tacos... and their HH margarita got me right more than a couple of times. The customer service is great and you can tell it's family owned but what you see and how they run the joint. It's far away down Mayport and probably seriously overlooked because you have to u-turn just to get to it and it's tucked away where there isn't much around it. But if you're in the beach area it's a small place that is definitely worth the try. I judge a place a lot by their rice and beans and I could eat there's all day. Nothing different or special than any other typical Mexican restaurant, but the food and service makes it a 5 star. Reasonable price for the amount of food you get. After wanting Mexican but not the usual tacos, I remembered I've been wanting to try Casa Leon. I ordered the Potter's pollo con arroz, their version of arroz con pollo: grilled chicken and rice but it's smothered in yummy cheese sauce. I added grilled mushrooms and onions which I highly recommend for only a dollar more. It was still steaming hot by the time I got home. It tasted as incredible as it smelled: flavorful and savory in every bite, including the rice which some places don't season as well. It's a good-sized portion, easily two meals. It's definitely a dish that will taste even better as leftovers. It came with a side of chips and salsa. I typically don't care for sweet salsa but theirs isn't overpowering and it balances the acidity and heat well. Casa Leon gets a thumbs up for this version. It's more like comfort food than your typical arroz con pollo and it's difference makes it a new favorite dish! read more

I have lived in this area for many years. I always pass this place going to or coming from mayport naval base. This is the first time I visited casa leon and I learned I have been missing out. The outside is bright red and easy to spot from mayport road. The inside has a bright Mexican atmosphere. They have Mexican mural art all over the walls. Everything is clean in top condition. I could not make up my mind on what to order. I kept flip. Flopping on two choices while speaking with our server. She chimed in and started praising the casa Grande. I was hesitant at first about the ground beef. Our server assured me of the meat and even brought me a sample to taste to help my decision. All the food we got here tasted very well flavored. Everything was cooked perfectly through. The chilli relleno was in the top three I have had in my worldly travels. Overall I learned what I been missing all these years by not going here.
