I used to eat here a lot but over time felt the food quality had declined and stopped for the past year or so because you never know who's in the kitchen. Last Sunday I wasn't feeling well and needed some good old-fashioned homemade comfort food, and meatloaf sounded good to me. It was 1PM and my first choice restaurant was closed so I rolled the dice on Popi's since it was across the street. My server was pleasant enough, but the meatloaf was really flavorless, burnt in spots and drowning in a tomatoey gravy, not the brown gravy on the menu. The mashed potatoes had a thin crust on them and were actually chewy (who does that?), the Italian green beans were OK but unexpectedly had cut carrots and celery mixed in. My wife, father-in-law, and I were looking for a place to grab breakfast on Christmas Eve. My sister-in-law suggested Popi's Place, and I'm so glad she did! We stopped in around 9:00 on December 24th, 2024. There was a good crowd but a few tables were still available (by the time we left it was almost completely full). It has a classic diner vibe, and was nicely decorated for the holidays. I ordered the corned beef hash with two eggs over-easy, home fries, and their homemade biscuits. It might sound like a lot of food, but I tend to work up an appetite during the holidays. Everything was delicious; especially the homemade biscuits! My wife loved the Hawaiian Omelette and grilled biscuits. Make sure to get the biscuits grilled, it takes them to a whole other level. My father-in-law got the Eggs Benedict. He must have enjoyed it because he cleaned his plate! They have a coffee bar featuring a wide variety of options including Cappuccino and Lattes. They also offer smoothies. Popi's is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Next time I want to try lunch or dinner options. Service is friendly and quick; and prices are reasonable for what you get. I stopped in at Popi's yesterday for breakfast. I generally like the locally owned Popi's restaurants and I certainly liked this visit. This was my first visit to this location and I found it was convenient to get to if you are in the area, and they have lots of seating both inside and outside in front of their restaurant. An omelette called Popi's Combination was my pick, along with their home fries. The food came out in roughly 10 minutes, which was good. What took long was eating all that food. The omelette has 7 different ingredients plus 2 types of cheese, so every mouthful included filling. I thoroughly enjoyed my omelette. As for the home fries, which covered half the plate, it was really nothing more than sliced fried potatoes. It did have a crusty top, I liked that, and with ketchup I ended up eating it all. The fries were exceptionally dry. One member in our 3 party table took and obnoxiously long time to get their meal (a good 15 minutes into our meals). There picture is what they got. Completely unappetizing looking. 2nd member in our party said their burger tasted like it was reheated from earlier. The waitress was super nice. That's really the only perk. So normally I would give this place a big thumbs up, love the people here, they normally treat us great, even if we are not the "typical" clientele. We haven't visited much since my mom passed, but sometimes my daughter and I do and it's the predictably fine. This time everything was off - service, wait, food. One would be a pass, but all 3 caused me to write this. Server was not good. I hesitate to name names, but she was less than pleasant, and never checked on us to let us know it would be almost 45 minutes for our food, never made eye contact so we could even inquire or get more drinks, never checked on us after we finally got our food. No stars there. And something tasted off about the hash browns, but I didn't get a chance to let her know. They were way too busy to tell the manager when we were leaving. I'm glad they have so much outdoor seating now, but maybe that's a contributing factor? Regardless, I'm going to keep coming back for the lemon chicken rice soup, I just can't quit it. I dined at the Popis on Manatee Ave a few days ago and ordered the turkey platter for lunch. Was pretty good but came out skimpy on the gravy, so I asked for more. Lo and behold they charged $2,50 for basically two ounces of gravy. I've never seen this happen anywhere else. Gravy is a condiment. I have to wonder do they charge if you want additional salad dressing? Ketchup for your fries. Seems a bit sneaky to not give enough gravy to start so they can tack on an additional charge. The food is average and will likely return. But will definately not order anything that requires gravy!!! read more

Can I just say the family behind these Popi's establishments have such a wonderful history behind their journey to America and they are just really kind hearted people. I had the pleasure of meeting THE Popi & her daughter in law. They were one of the two caterers I could select from through my wedding venue. They fully impressed me on the first day I met them and tried their food. What I thought was going to be a small taststing for six, was definitely a 4 course meal. Everything was incredibly delicious and made with absolute love. A few of the items we tried were: Pork egg rolls, spanakopita, greek meatballs, coconut shrimp, garlic orzo, short rib, lemon piccata chicken, greek potatoes, green beans almandine, asparagus, fresh warm rolls, and the greek salad... if i could drink a bottle of the dressing I would. I obviously picked Popi's Place as the caterer. At the wedding they did an outstanding job, food was hot and fresh, massive portions. Popi was there at the wedding and personally delivered my food and some extra appetizers to my husband and I. 10/10 all around experience with the establishments catering skills. read more

Ordered a Gyro which came out cold as if it had been taken from a refrigerator and put on the plate. The manager took it back to the kitchen to get me another. He came back with the same gyro on a plate with half the meat removed. A few minutes later he returned with the remainder of the meat which he called an extra serving of Gyro meat. It ad been re-heated in the micro wave oven. This is the poorest example of a "family" restaurant that prides itself in fresh cooked family recipes. Run, don't walk to somewhere else to eat. The manager never asked if my food was alright, he simply disappeared into the kitchen until I paid and left. read more

Worst meal we've ever had. Husband had Turkey dinner. The gravy was congealed. The dressing was dark brown and appeared to have been warmed up 10x or more. I had BLT and bacon was cold. Overall bad experience. When we told the waitress the end result was she laughed. We told the front desk and she offered 10% off. We paid in full and left no tip. Never going back.
