Hardy breakfast allowed full day of fishing nearby resulting in this nice Snook!

Great little spot; many locals and snowbirds as well. Visited back to back mornings when staying on Anna Maria Island; first because it was the only place open at 6:30 am. Second because the omelette was so good!

Hungry Man Breakfast - biscuits and gravy, 3 eggs and home fries

Great, local joint that has been around for 60 years. Surprisingly, it was our first visit and it did not disappoint. We popped in on a Sunday morning and waited a few minutes before being seated. Coffee was hot and fresh. Service was spot on throughout the visit. My husband ordered the Hungry Man breakfast. The biscuit and gravy was loaded with sausage, but he thought the gravy was a little on the gritty side...didn't stop him from polishing it off! I ordered the breakfast burrito with sausage which came perfectly toasted with eggs, loads of sausage, peppers, onions and cheese. In addition to the standard menu, there is a huge list of special (pork roll benedict!!). Prices listed are for cash payments and they are very upfront about the additional charge for credit cards (3.99% to cover their service fees).

Nice old fashion dinner, the service was friendly and the place itself needs to be updated, the food was good.

Man, so disappointed. Eggs benny is my fav and this place has multiple types but I am old school original. Well it should be two English muffins, Canadian bacon, and a poached egg on each with some hollandaise sauce and a couple dashes of paprika. Unfortunately, these were soggy English muffins, a large slice of what appeared to be country ham spread across both muffins with two eggs that appeared to be cooked in a muffin pan, sorry very over cooked eggs with a good drenching of.....um a hollandaise sauce that was a darker shade of yellow indicating it was definitely not fresh daily or overcooked based on color and texture. Then a bit too much of "old" paprika. Not sure if the grittiness was part of the hollandaise or the old paprika. Potato's were mid but did include a 1/2" baby pancake....no I didn't eat it. I didn't have any syrup . Anyway, for the $20 bill for that breakfast and a $2.45 cup of coffee I will need to look elsewhere for a quality breakfast. As a positive the customer service was great and the servers are very attentive, kind, but def stretched thin which garnered my restraint to return the breakfast and ask for corrections because it did not appear anything would change and I didn't want to add to their frustrations. For a simple breakfast eggs, bacon, taters, and toast the prices were not bad and I feel no doubt they could produce. I think the biggest issues here are the multiple specials and options. Sometimes less is more.

Ask the Community - Cortez Cafe

Does this place serve any Bloody Mary's or Mimosas? Wondering if they have a liquor license. No worries if they don't.

I've never noticed anything that looked like a bar here so I would guess no. But next time we have breakfast I will pay closer attention and ask our server

    Is there outside seating?

The first morning I went with my sister, and we had such a good experience that I came back the very next day with my brother, nephews, niece and sister. I think that says a lot right there! The food was delicious. The waffles were so good, the eggs and home fries were great, but the mango butter... WOW! I'm not even kidding, you have to try it. It was so good! The second day we had the whole family with us, and everyone loved the food. My nephews, niece and the rest of us were eating like we hadn't seen food in days! Everyone kept talking about how good everything was, so I knew we had found a winner. But honestly, what made this place really special for us was Nicki. She was amazing. Her customer service was incredible, but it was more than that. She was so friendly, funny, warm and genuinely welcoming. She has one of those personalities that just makes you feel good. You can tell when someone truly enjoys people, and Nicki definitely does. When I came back the second day, I was so happy to see her again. Then, when we were leaving, we actually gave her a hug. How often does that happen with someone you meet at a restaurant? I think that says everything about the kind of person she is and the impression she made on our family. The food was great, but Nicki is what will make us remember this place. A good meal is always nice, but having someone make you feel that welcome is something you don't forget. If you're visiting Anna Maria Island, you really should stop at Toasted Mango Cafe. Come hungry, definitely try the mango butter, and hopefully you get to meet Nicki. You'll understand exactly what I mean. We loved it and will absolutely be back!

Omelet was huge and very tasty. Just the right amount of jalapenos. The avocado cream didn't do a lot of lifting. Homes Fries were wonderful. Crispy on outside and soft and cooked through on inside. I opted for a biscuit instead of toast. Biscuit was massive. They nailed it on the biscuit. Was not a fan of the mango butter. Second visit, I went with Eggs Benedict. The eggs were poached perfectly. Was not a fan of the hollandaise sauce. Was a little too runny and not extremely flavorful. The ham was okay & the english muffin toasted well. Nothing ruins Eggs Benedict for me more than an under or non-toasted english muffin. Need to have some crunch. Went again with the Home Fries - still wonderful. Lastly, my son ordered pancakes during my first visit. I took a bite because that's what I do. Not good. They were tough, not fluffy, didn't absorb much syrup. Almost tasted like they were overcooked. No flavor. In summary, omelet and home fries were great. Skip the pancakes.

Both were gluten free. Now I have to admit that the lox avocado toast was about 6.5/10 (as the avocado had that weird taste it develops when it sets out for too long), but the waffle was SUPER good, ESPECIALLY for a GF option. The coffee was decent. Customer service was good. Everybody was very friendly and attentive, from the cashier to the wait staff. I have to say that I also got an iced latte with coconut milk and I was ecstatic that they had the coconut milk option because I'm noticing that it's becoming less and less available. Now to the other things that I have tasted; I tried their chai chiller. Even though it was too sweet for my liking (I reckon it was made with chai syrup). However, I think it tasted great -and the spiciness really was coming through. Finally, the tried the morning glory baked item. It was good. The combination of coconut, carrots, cinnamon, and raisins worked well together. I also got an orange-something scone, but have not tried it yet. I will have to come back and update my review once I do. The place looks eclectic but it works! It also has a small gift shop at the entrance which is a good option if needed.

While waiting, I noticed the woman greeting other guests very warmly, with things like "come on in, baby." When our table was called, she mispronounced my husband Tony's name. He simply corrected her and said, "Tony," and her response was, "whatever." As we approached the entrance, she was standing in the doorway and I finally asked, "Can we come in? It's hot out here." Her demeanor immediately changed and she silently moved aside and led us to our table. I'll be honest: once I sat down, I cried for about five minutes out of anger. I'm pregnant, I was hungry, my two young children were with us, and after waiting so long I didn't feel like I could simply pick everyone up and start over somewhere else. I also didn't want to have an argument in front of my children, so I swallowed a lot of what I wanted to say. I can't say what motivated the difference in treatment, but as a Latina woman, I noticed it and it made me uncomfortable--especially when I later watched difficult interactions happen with two other Latino tables as well. I was glad to see apologies and much warmer treatment afterward, but our initial interaction had already affected what should have been a nice family breakfast. Thankfully, a second server eventually took care of us and our experience with her was much better. We ultimately waited around another 40 minutes for our food. I'm not writing this because I expect special treatment. I expect the same basic courtesy given to every other guest. Whatever the reason for the initial behavior, responding "whatever" when a customer politely tells you his name is disrespectful and unnecessary. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, because no guest should leave a breakfast table wondering why their family seemed to be treated differently.
