I bought some killer T-shirts from here or their T-shirt store a few stores down (not sure if it's listed on Yelp yet). There were tons of fun Tees I wanted to buy but ended up with a shirt and a tank top. I haven't found a store in SF that had so many shirts I wanted to buy in one place. Here's the deal. I used to shop at places like Bebe but since Popkiller, I can't go back. Not because Popkiller always has something that fits perfectly in my wardrobe, but because when I do walk out with an item, it always becomes a staple item that gets compliment after compliment. Mainstream stores just don't do that for me. The first time I came in here, I left with what is still now my favorite "In the Moog For Love" sweater. The second time I came back, I left with my favorite turntable necklace. And it goes on... This place got stuff you need and absolutely don't need for the hipster and vintage heart. I come in sometimes just to play with the crazy glasses and their crazy lineup of accessories/random gadgets. I deducted one star because some of the items aren't made with top-quality care or materials. The little plastic tonearm on my turntable necklace fell off within 3 days and I had to superglue it back on. Quick fix, but I did expect a certain quality from the price I paid for the simple design of the necklace. Other than that, this place is a gem. read more

This store is cute but breakers of my #1 rule: greet me when I walk into your store. Nothing gets more under my skin than this. If I am going to consider spending money especially in a store which is obviiously paying a big overhead, say soemthing to me. Make eye contact! Overall, there is some cool stuff in this store from trinkets to clothes. Would I buy something from here? Yes, but I would have to LOVE LOVE LOVE it. read more

Looking for a shirt from the 80's in M for about twenty bones? They got it. If Popkiller was a nintendo game you'd have to blow on it a little to make it work. They kick it old school and provide you that vintage look with actual vintage cloths. None of this pre-fade shirts you find at Urban outfitters or any other mall shop. They got strange trinkets all about. From pig lighters to secret compartment soda cans to hide your stash. It's a little bit of everything and the only reason that is not food related that I go to little tokyo. I guess that and drunken karaoke. But that involves plenty of alcohol so we have to still lump it as "food" The prices may get you, but if you want to have that look, you know, the kind that shows you played Ms. Pac-Man and mastered it oh so well, this is the place for you. As soon as I walked in, I knew I was home. This place has just the right mix of offbeat Americana mixed with kitschy Japanese / pan Asian finds to keep my interest tickled. I tend to really like the old and vintagey and having a dash of the exotica mixed in is a great twist. What made me come inside the store? The front window shop display had an arrangement of knit beanie/masks of the following characters in intarsia knit designs: (1) A blingy silver-lame trimmed Lucha Libre mask! with eyeholes (2) Raphael from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles's top half of his head (with eyeholes!) (3) A random archetypical ninja facemask. Hell, I was sold with just the TMNT reference. I'm a sucker for new fashion renditions of things from my childhood (including some of the Disney Couture items, if that colors your opinion of this review any) I walked out $18 lighter, with Raphael on my head and no sense of shame (and I'm swearing to come back to Little Tokyo if not just for this store) read more

This store adds a cool hipster funk to Little Tokyo. Plays up too much on the Asian stereotypical stuff for my tastes, but they also have really neat accessories. What a cool store! Looking for vintage clothing? How about unique and pretty damn funny graphic tees? Heart shaped sunglasses? Mustache sets? Interesting ice cube molds? Yes, I think you get the picture. You can basically find a number of quirky, fun gifts and clothing items at this awesome little shop in Little Tokyo. I scored a panda hunter graphic tee for the bf (gotta bring home a gift when traveling, right?!) and almost bought an "I am f***ing genius" pin for a friend. The shop is pretty small, but I could have spent an inordinate amount of time inside just searching through all the racks and shelves. Popkiller is my first stop in Little Tokyo. Always. After a couple years of not stopping in, I finally went back! Not much has changed. They have more killer T shirt & Sticker designs. I had to get their Japan Rocks Tank and a new sticker. They still had a lot of cool vintage threads, and random kitchy items, like sushi keychains and printed scarves. I was also thrilled to find some postcards by my FAVORITE Japanese artist, Yukinori Dehara. The staff was very nice and helpful! If you're a fan of Urban Outfitters or generally hip & trendy clothing, you must come see the folks at Popkiller and their rad stuff! read more

Another usual stop on the tour of Little Tokyo. A small retro clothing and accessory boutique that's filled with nice jackets, decent shirts and interesting knickknacks. Most of the good stuff is for women, but if you look hard enough or catch it on a good day, a guy can find some nice swag in here. I personally love their sunglasses and beanies/knit caps. Really fun store with lots of cool clothes and accessories. Has a thrift store feel but with new stuff mixed in. I found an "I Heart LA" t-shirt that's the coolest one I've seen anywhere, not cheesy at all. There's an upstairs area where you have to negotiate really steep steps to get to. They have eclectic stuff like rainbow keyboard belts, mohawky knit caps and huge '70s sunglasses. I could spend hours in here just browsing all that jewelry and trying on all the cool accessories. I love Popkiller. Whenever the bf and I are strolling/waiting for Komasa or the Shabu place in the Japanese Village, we will always stop by Popkiller. They have such a great collection of vintage t-shirts, shoes, killer sunglasses, and sometimes even great leather pieces. I've purchased a few rings and dresses and a friend of mine (who was visiting from SD) fell in love with their sunglasses collection and bought 3 at once. The merchandise is pretty unique and it's definitely affordable. I've never been to their upstairs sale - the steps are way too steep and it looks a little intimidating - but I'm sure you can find some great things there. One other great thing about Popkiller is that they have some great designer-inspired pieces at a fraction of the price. I got a Black Halo-esque dress for $40! read more

5 stars from me because this little gem of a shop fulfills the following criteria: 1) It's very tiny and you can dig around for cool treasures in there. 2) They've always got hipster kids hanging around doing random things in there (last night someone was fixing something using a matchbook, I think). 3) I always seem to find the coolest shit ever in there. Even the stuff you don't buy, like the cigarette lighter with a loaded gun on it or the honkin' huge belt buckles, are much appreciated for their random kitschiness. 5) The prices are unbelievably good. 6) Nice people workin' there, playin' great music. 7) Proximity to other cool stuff. Good restaurants, etc. The only caveat - if you find something and you don't buy it right then, you might not be able to get it. Get what you want before you see it at Urban Outfitters 6 months later...and marked up about $25. read more

They have the SWEETEST vintage shades here, bigger than Nicole Richie's. They also have normal sized shades too, but they're ALSO pretty nice. They sell quirky shirts, ranging from things about love to things about Japan selling kids beer. There's a grand assortment of things, not just shirts and shades, but vintage jewelry, bags, and keychains. GOTTA GO! I like Pop Killer. I really do. Only thing is, that I have never bought anything there. Why? I'm 6'2". Bummer. If I was half my size, I would have some cool s**t by now. I brought my sister here and we found some pretty cool stuff. Popkiller can be hit-and-miss, but worth stopping in (especially if you are killing the hour-and-a-half wait to get into Shabu Shabu House... soooo GOOD!!). It's a little hit and miss. The prices are very high here, but it's always a fun place to stop whenever I am in Little Tokyo. Its got all kinds of neat nick nacks that are mass produced or found only at the flea market. I mainly come here for the large array of cool geek glasses they have. The large hipster like ones. They usually range form 6-14 bucks a pair and I have found for the convenience and price, that it's a really good deal. I also think this popkiller actually has better items than the one on Fairfax or Costa Mesa. read more

Popkiller is like a see-saw of cool vs. sucky. On one side, you have stuff like miniature Japanese boombox model kits from the early 80s, vintage vinyl, and keyboard wristbands -- and on the other side, you have stuff like turntable belt buckles and and marijuana leaf iron-on patches. So, it's like a Spencer Gifts/Hot Topic filtered through Japanese eyes, which makes it more interesting but somehow not interesting enough. (I should also note that they were playing old Pat Metheny the whole time I was there -- for what it's worth.) If you're a fan of Giant Robot, Reform School or Munky King, this place is probably not cool enough for you (plus they don't have those collectible vinyl toy things, although there's an art gallery up the ridiculously unsafe stairs). I'd go back but I'd wait 6 months in the hopes that they'll stock different stuff. read more

They have a variety of items however some of the items tend to be on the pricey side. I check in from time to time and am always wanting to buy a lot of the items however I restrain myself due to the fact I know a lot of the items like the sunglasses can be bought for $5 in the fashion district (not to far away!) instead of $15+. I've bought some really cool items for my boyfriend and myself and love coming here, but wish I had more money to spend on the bags and boots! read more

This place rocks! And the customer service is really outstanding. I wandered in on a Sunday night with a few friends and we had a blast browsing funky socks and trying on weird sunglasses. Super cute. Bought a great red vinyl bag there...lots of neat kitschy stuff...I always have flash backs of my trip to japan when I go to lil tokyo...love the selection of cute clothes amazing hats and sunglasses to the pin that reads "i love skate" and the soda can safe...you could even get a weed pipe there if you really desired. This store has always been hipster before being "hipster" was ever even a thing. It's a cute store to stop by while you're waiting for a table at a restaurant or walking with dessert. The store reminds me of an urban outfitter and a thrift store combined into one. They have some similar accessories and little gift ideas as urban. Very cool cheap glasses and sunglasses. I wish the super oversized glasses could actually be used as real frames. They also have some interesting shirts. The prices jump a lot. Some items can be really cheap and some can be really pricey. Kind of makes it fun to shop around and see if you snag anything nifty at a good price. They also have an upstairs. If you're lucky you can go up and check it out. Sometimes they block it off. It's tiny but interesting. The stairs are kind of tall and narrow. Freaks me out sometimes. read more

I've bought multiple t-shirts here and for my older brother as well which led him to coming here and buying some things for himself. I was surprised how small this store was. There is a Big Mirror that makes it feel bigger but they had to put a sign there since apparently people were walking into the mirror.... Anyways onto the review. The music playing was very odd sounded like Bikini Kill, my boyfriend loved it and got the artists name from the cashier who was very nice. It was a little pricey for my taste but then again vintage clothes aren't suppose to be cheap. I did enjoy they gag gift area though. I saw gifts that I haven't seen before.
