These folks are really not into customer care or providing a nice experience. Food is mediocre at best. You can tell by the quality and amount served that this place is all about food cost and not about making customers happy. Service is more about the technical aspects of the job than hospitality. I felt like I was asking my server to give me her first born when asking for a refill of coffee. This server reminded me of a car stuck in the mud. The wheels are spinning fast but going nowhere. Despite the fact that our oatmeal pancakes were light and flavorful once we put pure maple syrup on them, we were surprised and disappointed to find out that the ounce of maple syrup cost an extra$4.00 and because my friend and I shared the 3 large pancakes we were charged an extra $2.00 for the use of an extra plate. The manager and the owner were both rude throughout the discussion of these fees and so I recommend that everyone find a nicer, more reasonable place for a meal. Comfortable dining area, large menu to choose from and very good customer service. A gentleman who I assume to be either the owner or a general manager was extremely welcoming, offering to take photos of me and my husband unprompted as well as the staff checking on us. Didn't have to wait long for our food either. My crepe was awesome, I'm used to most restaurants skimping on fruit whether they are high or low end, but they put so many fresh strawberries in it that I had enough for every bite. I would have rated this place a 4 stars if it wasn't for two factors. The first was the service! It was terrible, our waitress took our orders and never came to check on us until finally she came with a check that we didn't ask for given we wanted to order another dish. This means we never got our coffee refilled. Also my glass of water had lipstick on it. I asked her (when she brought the check) if she wouldn't mind getting me a new glass with water and no ice. She disappeared again and never showed up with the glass until I embarrassed her in front of her co worker by asking if she can help us out. I was a bit calm given that I knew if I got a bad service I would provide a bad tip. This is where the story make sense, they actually add an 18% tip for any group! (We were group of two) This explains why she didn't care about providing a good service. The second reason is for being shady. They add the 18% "service charge" and then ask you for a tip when you want to sign the bill! I guarantee you that many tourist won't realize that there was a service charge and would tip (a second tip) because this place is shady. We ordered the eggs spinach and the avocado eggs. Both were good but nothing special. The oats pancakes went really well with the syrup and we really liked that. Time was about 08:00hrs. Yes, I was seated promptly right after I entered this establishment. YES, they have a High Stool Seat Areas right up front of this establishment on the Left Wing. Since I am alone, the lovely staff ushered me to one of the seats/table which are empty a couple step down at the "Lower" Level of this establishment. All in all decent establishment with HUGE portions. The Macadamia Oatmeal Pancakes comes with 3 HUGE Layers. In terms of flavor it was just OK. Perhaps it can be over-whelming for some. TAKE NOTE Number 1, if you want REAL MAPLE SYRUP, YES they have it but definitely additional cost added to your Breakfast/Brunch options. TAKE NOTE Number 2, as I was checking their website, nothing showed up, just the Oatmeal ordering what nots. From the conversations I had with one of the servers, the Owner is out of town and she will inform them. It seems that this establishment is a REGULAR Heaven, coz the servers tend to know everyone and always strike conversations with the Regulars what nots. What a delightful morning we had on the front patio of Poppycock's in Aspen! It was 70 and perfect, surrounded by lovely potted flowers and trees. I enjoyed a great cup of coffee. Then I ordered an Egg Sandwich, made with an ample serving of scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, and crisp bacon on wheat toast. It was accompanied by a generous serving of fresh fruit...blueberries, strawberries and bananas. Leisurely, casual, and lovely, on the sidewalk in the middle of beautiful downtown Aspen...so nice! Yum! After reading many people ordering the corned beef hash, I decided to give it a try. It's really fresh and delicious! The sourdough toast came out perfectly toasted and I love the fact that they don't grease up your toast with butter. They offer small containers of butter at the table in case you don't want dry toast. We came here on a Sunday morning and this place was packed! The amazing thing was that we didn't wait that long! We might have waited 10 mins tops. Even more amazing was that after we all ordered our food the food came really quick but still freshly made and hot. This place does not serve alcohol, so no mimosa nor bloody mary with your breakfast. Took away 1 star because the price is slightly higher than the place we ate the day before at the Hickory House and the portion is healthy but slightly less as well. Also, the place is really small so it's hard to get in and out of my seat to go use the restroom. I had to really watch myself when I took my jacket off so I didn't hit anyone. We ordered the corned beef hash plate, the manhattan salmon bagel, the breakfast burrito and huevos rancheros. I loved every bite of my corned beef hash. The manhattan salmon bagel plate was super delicious, and probably has the most amount for the money. The breakfast burrito was delicious and so was their green chili... but the portion is a bit small for breakfast burritos I have seen. The huevos ranchero I didn't get to try but my friend enjoyed it a lot. I will definitely come back and visit if I were to be in town again, really delicious stuff! read more

This establishment was recommended by our hotel front desk at St Regis..... I was told it just won the Best of Aspen recently, so we went there this morning.... boy, the oatmeal buttermilk pancake (we added blueberry) was sooooo good that I almost forgot to take a photo. My hubby eat the waffle with fresh fruit.... he said that was good too. Their deco on the walls has large photos of aspen.... one was so whimsical that a skier wanted to go skiing so bad that he rode is bicycle in the snowstorm. I for sure recommend this place. Very cute diner! Lovely, friendly staff. I assume the older couple are the owners, they are so cute and feel like your grandparents! Is the food exceptional? No. But service is amazing. They knew what we needed before we had to ask, e.g. refilling coffees, extra plates for the littles. I'm giving this place 5* because of the service, and because it's the most reasonably priced place in Aspen. The food is average but I'd rather pay a reasonable price for average food than pay 3x the amount for just the same average food else where. read more

I made a Yelp account to review this place. My friends and I went for breakfast to this restaurant. The food quality was subpar- potatoes tasted unseasoned and raw, pancakes were bland and the avacodo was not ripe. Not worth the price charged. The major issue was with an order of pancakes- we ordered the oatmeal pancakes and the server brought the buttermilk pancakes. We corrected the issue and the server eventually got us the correct pancakes. When the bill came, both pancakes were on the bill. Instead of just correcting this issue, the owner was notified and he came over. He then argued with both us and the server about the mixup. Then very loudly kept telling the server she was going to have to pay for the mistake- in front of us! We couldn't believe how unprofessional this was. Regardless of who mixed up, the poor server was very upset and then angry at us for her boss being an absolute jerk. 0/10 do not even try. The service along with the food isn't worth the very expensive overpriced food. If you are a server looking for work... DONT WORK FOR THIS GUY. I wish they offered a smaller stack or add ons like eggs and bacon so this could be your meal but still get some protein. If this review was solely on the pancakes, it'd get 5 stars. This place is a hidden gem! We were in Aspen of the Food and Wine Festival (yes, you need to buy more food because the meager portions they give you at the fest are not enough). Our hotel was charging $32 for breakfast (2 eggs, toast, potatoes) and we decided to go into town to see if we could get something with a fair price. Poppycock's was it! We both enjoyed eggs Benedict with potatoes $19.50 a plate. What a bargain! They don't have alcohol, which is a bummer but we were going to the fest and didn't worry about it too much. They are busy so service was a bit slow, but the food was worth it and the server was amazing. It was pretty quiet considering how busy they were. It's a nice sized cafe. Have been wanting to try this for brunch for years. Outside table was nice. Service was ok. Food was terrible. There were no seasoning on the eggs or potatoes. Pretty difficult to mess up eggs. I mentioned to our server that there were no taste not even salt on the eggs and potatoes, she pointed to the salt and pepper on the table. Both my food and my spouses food was unseasoned. I don't think it was overlooked. I think that the cooks here do not even bother to put salt in their food. Very expensive breakfast and not worth a visit.
