The restaurant is casual, has comfortable seating and plenty of lake view tables in their main dining room. The menu had a nice selection of handhelds, salads, sandwiches and entrees. Incredible food, some of the best I've ever had in Northern Michigan (or anywhere, for that matter). My gf's halibut and risotto was a real highlight, as was the lobster bisque. The halibut was very well seasoned and perfectly cooked, and the risotto was a great accompaniment. My fried perch was, as expected, not as good as the halibut, but still quite above average. The prices were higher than a "regular" sit down, but I felt it was a good value compared to a place like Artisan at Delamar or the restaurants at Grand Traverse Resort (we paid about $85 + tip for the halibut, perch, 1 lobster bisque, and a soda) The location is certainly one of the main draws here, as the restaurant is located right on the water, with a great view of the west bay. We were very happy to get a table with a good view of the water, but it seems like the vast majority of tables also have a good view, aside from the bar seating. The decoration and furniture was tasteful and cute -- not quite fancy, white tablecloth vibes, but much more elevated than your average taxidermy-infested northern Michigan dinner spot (ahem, Nonna Lisa's in Mackinaw...) The service was one thing we encountered that I felt was less than completely perfect. Strangely, it seemed like our waiter was a bit overwhelmed or something, despite the moderate crowd, and forgot to bring our soup until about 2 or 3 minutes before the entree came out, and then did not bring the ciabatta bread until after the entree. We also did not get our Coke until after the entrees came out, which I thought was a bit weird for a place as nice as this. But, I know things like that tend to happen in food service, so I don't hold it against them. It was also nice that the manager came to chat with us about TC and our hometown. We were looking for a spot that we haven't tried yet so I was excited to find Apache. This place did it all right! We were a bit surprised when we got there. It had a very old school feel to it. The bar area is located at the front or the restaurant and had a ton of tvs. This reminded me of a sports bar so I was a little unsure about how the food would be. Now, if you go to the restaurant side, there are stunning lake views. I definitely need to come back in the summer time! We enjoyed our drinks as we perused the menu. I chose the Halibut. Let me tell you. They did NOT disappoint! This was creamy and delicious. Once you've had Halibut in New Orleans you are difficult to impress. But I was absolutely impressed. Stopped in while driving along M22 near Traverse City and ended up staying longer than planned because of the view. You are right on the water and can see Grand Traverse Bay from almost every seat. I read the yelp reviews to stay away from the fried items so we did, but overall we had an amazing time and the outside lounge area was beautiful! Do not order the pork tenderloin. I had my fill of seafood for the week and decided to give it a go. It was one of the worst non-fast food meals of my life. Overcooked, tough, and marinated in some kind of teriyaki sauce. The apples along with it weren't terrible but resembled apple pie filling. I didn't want to go through the hassle of returning it so my family each shared a little of what they had ordered. The perch was outstanding as was the seafood roll. One of the only places open on a Monday night! I wanted a steak so I decided to check it out. There was an hour or so wait when I arrived but a bar seat was available so I snagged that. I wanted the ribeye but sadly, prices were not posted online and the only option was a 24 oz tomahawk for $75 (MP). I settled for the 8oz filet ($47). It comes with mashed potatoes and a veggie (they seemed flexible about swapping any of the sides.) It was tender and well-seasoned. I do think it's a bit pricey but given the area and that it's a local business, I won't knock a star for it! There were options in the upper $20s range. They have a beautiful lawn by the lake with some seating - they only serve drinks out there. Apparently the owners are the same as a more casual spot up the road ...I believe it's called West End Tavern. (Free) Parking was full but I got a spot after waiting a minute or so. read more

We are locals and have been here for 30 years. We were there this summer and all was good, but they just recently changed everything and it's horrible. I would not recommend going there unless you wanna have a couple of drinks at the bar and maybe an appetizer but don't bother ordering food. They're way overpriced in the food menu has changed tremendously. See what I wrote below that's why we will no longer go there since we've been going there since the early 90s. We are a family of five with three teens. We decided to stop by after a day of shopping because we saw they had whitefish dip on their online menu. We were immediately profiled as we were not dressed in upscale boating attire like the rest of the diners. We were sat in the back of the restaurant next to a very loud table of 6 drunk adults. The waitress visibly sighed when we saw us. We ordered sandwiches and sodas. She rolled her eyes at us. Before we were finished eating she tried taking our plates multiple times. My husband had half a sandwich left on his plate and she tried to take it several times. We are not slow eaters. This was all in a matter of fifteen minutes. She gave us the check before we were finished and plates were cleared. She never even offered us dessert. She threw to go boxes at us when she came to pick up our check. As someone who waitressed to put herself through college, I know service etiquette. We were profiled and pushed out because we did not fit their idea of clientele. My husband and I have very high paying jobs and easily could have dropped a good amount on dinner if we were treated better. We ordered food to go from here for 6 people and the experience was shockingly not great. 3 of the meals we got were incorrect. One meal got mashed potatoes instead of fries, soup was missing, and someone got a grilled chicken sandwich with fries when a fried chicken sandwich with onion rings was ordered. We go back to correct it and they tell us the fried chicken sandwich wasn't even a menu item yet even though it was on the website and the server could order it on the screen, so thats why they made a grilled sandwich. So instead of telling us while waiting there they just made a different item it seemed like since the manager said they discussed that back in the kitchen when the order came through. We waited another 30 minutes for the correct food and refund for the chicken sandwich. When we get back the burger that we got had parchment paper cooked on the cheese. Overall food was just okay for the price and experience with restaurant and manager was a negative one. read more

My other comments on the food- the fish we got had tons of bones in it so be careful. The steak was a bit undercooked order one above what you want. We've always enjoyed Apache Trout Grill when visiting Traverse City, largely for its stunning West Bay views and warm atmosphere. It's been a go-to spot for a nice dinner, even with the higher prices. But our latest visit was a letdown that has us second-guessing whether we'll return. During our meal, we watched a waiter/busboy drop a cloth napkin roll of silverware on the floor while prepping two window-front tables. Instead of replacing it, he picked it up, rerolled it ON the freshly cleaned table, and set it ON a plate like the other place settings. I don't think it's an overreaction considering the next guest will eat off that plate and potentially wipe their face on that napkin. At a place where a meal for two can easily run $150-$200, this kind of hygiene slip up is unacceptable. It left us uneasy about what other shortcuts might be happening out of sight. The food didn't do much to salvage the evening. We tried the special appetizer, a smoked trout spread with bread, priced at $19. What we got was a small portion of spread with four tiny bread slices, overshadowed by the garnish taking up most of the plate. While it did taste quite good, the quality just didn't match the price this time, and the experience fell flat. After this visit, unfortunately, I don't think we'll be back. read more

We returned for dinner. The food and service were outstanding! We ordered the white fish dip and it didn't disappoint at all, the signature salad was fresh with ample amounts of apple and pecans along with a variety of lettuces, of course we can't dine here without having the Halibut, which was cooked to perfection and served at the right temperature on a bed of delicious rice with asparagus and mushrooms cut up bite size.
