The staff tried to seat customers that came in after us. Then took the orders from two parties seated after us. Waiting in the corner for nearly 1 hour before being asked if we'd like drinks. The staff couldn't even answer a simple question about the beers available. 1.5 hours and a drink never arrived. I've never had this kind of experience at an establishment before. One of the most disappointed restaurant I have eaten at. At least 15 minutes to get sitted. We were the only my wife and I. Was given a menu to look out while we waited. $27 for 2 meat combination with 2 sides. The sides were s in the smallest bowl, maybe a sterifoam 4 oz size. The brisket was 2 slices, the burnt ends also in a four ounce bowl. Slaw tasteless. The only great thing was the waitress. I asked to speak to the manager . That person was gone by 6:10 PM. All the staff I saw in the whole place was 2 in the kitchen, a waitress and a waiter. Mind you this was on a Saturday evening. Had a chance to go to Pop's recently. We were thinking of going to a popular place over in Waynesville, but when we saw the lines out the door there we decided to go somewhere that wasn't quite so busy. We also really liked the location Pop's is in, right by the river with the babbling water going by. We were seated in a reasonable time, and didn't even really have a chance to go look at the glass blowing that was taking place in the other half of the building. We did get a chance after our meal, though. Looking through the menu, we went for some smoked wings and a couple of other barbecue choices. It turned out that the best item on the menu was the mac and cheese, which had a gorgeous garlic flavor to it. We waited patiently and the hostess was trying to seat people had arrived after us. Once the two young boys who were ahead of us were seated, we were finally seated 15-20 mins after arriving. The servers wouldn't make eye contact with us and it took maybe another 20 minutes before someone asked if we would like to order our drinks. We waited another 10 minutes and watched a table of 1 get seated in front of us and he was immediately asked what he wanted to drink and got his food order placed shortly after. In the restaurant, our table ordered many different menu items to sample. Out of the food we ordered, the catfish and fried okra was the best. I would return just for that. The ribs were on the dry side and so was the barbecue. Our server was not the most hospitable, so we spent most of our time looking outside. I was perplexed at the length of time it took us to get our food once it was ordered, as other tables who were seated later than us had more luck with their food and drinks. And oh yeah, there were only two other couples in the place. So it was NOT busy. The food was mediocre. We got our ticket and to my surprise they charged us 50 cents for tap water. How insane is that. Also, they added an 18% tip to our bill because it was a "large party" (5 adults and 2 kids). In my opinion no tip was deserved. I will NEVER go back to this place again!! I'm not really sure why other people have had such bad reviews, but we did come during a very very quiet time on a weekday around 3 o'clock. The waitress was really attentive, but it wasn't super busy as they were only two other tables besides ours, but it was a beautiful view, the service was pretty quick, and the food was fast, not only was the food fast, but it was delicious. The portion sizes were pretty decent, but it was still expensive but what do you expect from barbecue as most are a little bit pricey. We really enjoyed coming here and the brisket sandwich was amazing with the Texas toast. My daughter and I decided to drive up to Maggie Valley, 3 weeks after Hurricane Helene to try out "Pops Butts on the Creek." Maggie valley was absolutely beautiful. The trees and mountains surrounded the town. You see every color you can imagine. So this isn't about Maggie Valley still go there it's just gorgeous. Now about Pops Butts on the Creek, the menu looked really good. I ordered two meats and it came with 2 sides. I had ribs and brisket. The brisket was so dry. I only ate half a piece, the ribs however (two ribs) were delicious and I enjoyed them. My two sides were mac & cheese and coleslaw. The mac & cheese was as dry as it could be and my daughter and I returned our sides of mac & cheese. The coleslaw was good. For dessert my daughter and I shared a hot peach cobbler with a scoop of ice cream now that was absolutely delicious. My daughter ordered loaded fries and side of mac & cheese. The loaded fries were so thick and chunky and all you could taste were the potatoes, and my daughter also said that the brisket on top of hers was very dry. The ambience of the restaurant was nice and our waitress was very sweet and treated us well. However, I have to say I would not go there again. After returning the two sides our bill was $50 for lunch. In Maggie Valley it looked like there were other cute places to maybe enjoy a meal. I would recommend that you go to Maggie Valley, but look for another place to eat, I'm sorry to have to say this, but I just don't want you to spend the money that I spent and not enjoy your meal. read more

Completely clueless, flustered and unaware of anything happening around her. Quoted 40 minutes and were seated within 10. It was cool and breezy on the porch with no heaters, others were complaining. They ran out of pork which was no big deal and the waitress at the table next to us was giving away the farm!! We ordered the 3 meat combo to share with chicken (comes 1/4 chicken on the bone) beef brisket and sausage. Honestly I thought the portion size was small for $30, only 1 sausage and one small fatty piece of brisket. When I entered the restaurant there was a crowd of people waiting for a table. The hostess walked by and said I'll be back to seat you in a minute. There were at least 5 parties and she was able to get them all seated pretty quickly. Many were complaining about the wait. I didn't witness many people leaving so not sure why it stacked up. Two of the tables near me were seated before me. The waitress was apparently very confused and didn't know which tables were hers. She kind of fumbled around and got the larger tables order. The adjacent table of two was ignored. A different waitress came and asked if I wanted a drink, I asked about IPA's and she was not sure but named off a couple that she thought were. I ordered one and she asked if I was ready to order, I was and ordered 3 meat plate with ribs, brisket and sausage. For sides I went beans and smokie wings. She told me there was an up charge for wings and I said ok. She asked if I wanted blue cheese or ranch and I opted for blue cheese. The table of two now lost it and left, still waiting for service. My food came and although beans were spilling over it looked good. The larger table had asked for a manager and was told that they would be served soon. When my food came they lost it and all walked out too. Their server showed up with a platter of drinks about 5 minutes later and was shocked that they were gone. It has probably been 10-15 minutes with no communication or service. I was given a spoon and no other silverware. I figured she would bring them but didn't. I was very tired and asked her for a knife and another beer. She gave me a knife only, and my beer. My wings were great, but no blue cheese anywhere. I dove into the ribs which were tender and delicious. I sampled all 3 sauces which are oddly in one clear bottle and a ketchup and mustard bottle. Their mustard sauce was good but their traditional bbq sauce was my favorite. Next I dug into my brisket with my knife and my spoon. It was fatty which I liked and tender moist and delicious. Only wish I had a fork. I finished everything and realized there was no sausage. I was so full it didn't matter but I suspect they gave me more brisket and wings because it was a lot. The restaurant is on a creek in a very rustic cabin look. It's very comfortable. They really need better management and more servers, especially trained and seasoned servers. My server was adequate but inattentive ,and the server for the tables that left needs a new profession. The hostess also needs training and was pretty lost, although apparently trying. I would order food to go, but honestly that line looked bad too. The bar was covered in paperwork and no one seated or attending the bar. Such a waste of a profit center for a restaurant. I would have happily sat there. All in all my food was great, the venue is great and management needs to be replaced ASAP. Pork was cooked to perfection with a sauce that was a little spicy with a little sweet behind it. Onion rings were battered and cooked to a perfect crispness. My dinner partner had the southwest burger with a side of mac and cheese. The burger was hand pattied and cooked to just the correct temperature with Pico de gala , onion ring ans a spicy aoli. Mac and cheese, you would've thought your grandmother made this!! It was a meal so good that we may go back again tomorrow. Ordered the Brisket Burnt Ends and Ribs. Flavors were okay, just bad butchery. I got a small cup(6oz?) of undercooked Burnt Ends for $25 with 1/3 of them being gelatinous fat??? The whole point of Burnt Ends is the render the fat down, deeply browning the outside. Not well cut, executed, and definitely over-priced. Ribs were large, but again, not butchered well, undercooked, and chewy. Large sections of tendons and connective tissue that's inedible. A St. Louis Style Cut often give you more meat and a better end product. The sides(Smoked wings, Corn on the cob, Onion Rings, and Okra) were fine and the sweet tea was nice. I have eaten here for years. These disappointing changes have happened over the past couple. Step your game back up folks. There's a lot of local competition. read more

Absolutely terrible! If I could give them 0 out of 5 stars I would! First of all, it took 45 minutes to get lemons for our water, even after asking more than once. The table was so sticky, we had to lay down paper towels so our arms didn't stick to it. We waited an hour for food to come after ordering. The pork was chewy and not very hot. The FRIED corn on the cob was not hot either. The waitress barely came to our table. We saw others 5 times as much as ours and other tables received drinks and appetizers within minutes of ordering. One friend's mac n cheese looked crusty and it was cold. The waitress said it was the last of a batch they had and others at our table got the new batch. One couple near us approached our same waitress to ask about their order because they had been waiting on hour as well and she blamed it on a group of 13 on the other end.
