I love this place. I since moved to Vegas, (they need to start expanding to other states starting there) every time I come home to visit, I never miss a trip to Pops. Since I was flying, I had to pick the most important item that I wanted to bring home. Of course it was the hot peppers. So I bought a pint, let them know I was traveling with them, and had them wrapped up to go. I did not get ONE little leak anywhere, and I had other things in the bag, had it thrown thru TSA and it came thru beautifully! I commend them on getting that together and making it hassle free. The customer service is outstanding, the food is even better. I know this review is to let you know how the food is, but think of it this way...if I never miss a trip to pops when I'm home, and I love it so much I go thru the hassle of bringing it on plane, well, that should speak for itself. The fries, the beef sandwiches, everything I have ever had has been outstanding. I am a vegetarian and I swear, this place comes close to making me throw 30 years of not eating meat out the window. When I first stopped eating meat, I did it gradually, the beef sandwiches from here is one of the last things I gave up. The food is good but over priced for what you get. The blonde behind the counter could use some people skills as well. I ordered a "bacon chicken breast" sandwich which was priced at $4.69. I got charged an extra $.65 for bacon as an add-on. WHAAAAAT? When I asked the blonde girl behind the counter why I was charged extra, she stated "that's just the way it is". I have eaten here a few times and the food has been very consistent. I've only ever had the beef sandwich (dipped with hot peppers) and fries. I think their beef is pretty decent and they have great fries. The dine in area is also very clean. There is always an employee cleaning and straightening up, especially in the drink and condiments area. read more

REALLY Great Italian Beef and everything else!! I've had Pop's numerous times whenever my in-laws have a party. They ordered a few pounds of it and boy, it never is around long enough to get cold. I've been to the Kedzie location and they have never failed to deliver the taste and quality. However tonight, my wife told me I can't come home unless I bring back some Pop's Italian beef. I stopped into the Lyon's location and talk about service, it was definitely superior. I had also ordered their gyro special. Firstly, the gyro was phenomenal. Meat was spot on (not overcooked or cold) with the onions, cucumber sauce and soft pita. Smiles and big thumbs up all around here. It was just enough to keep me satisfied. I love a good gyro and found a place to get them if I ever get tired of the Italian beef. Is that even possible ??? I picked up a few pounds of the italian beef, bread, au jus and hot peppers. Like others have said, their hot pepper mix elevates the sandwich to a great one. I could not agree more. It's so good and hot that I can eat it by itself. My wife who does not ever eat spicy foods or hot peppers even requests the hot pepper mix on her sandwich!!. The beef is very thinly sliced. It's juicy, tender and flavorful. Add some au jus and peppers and well if I had to ask for a last meal, it would be that very sandwich from Pop's. I have tried Al's, Portillo's, Buona and others. You can keep them because nothing compares to Pop's. For being a part of chain locations, I have to admit that quality is very consistent. You can not go wrong with their food! read more

We ordered some dipped beefs and a few everything hot dogs. The beefs tasted similar to Buena Beef and the hot dogs tasted like an ordinary Chicago dog. Their french fries, however, are very much on point. On point to the point that they tasted better than McDonald's french fries back in the day when McDonalds actually had good french fries. Only complaint was having one of our hot dogs loaded with jalapenos instead of hot giardiniera. Nearly killed the bf from choking on how hot they were. read more

Two things I am going to target, the jumbo dog and the Italian beef...oh the Italian beef! I have eaten all over the city and the suburbs; AL's, Portillos, Nicky's hotdog stands, kronos lucky dogs etc; by far this has got to be the worst Italian beef I have ever tasted. Baccis was bad, move over Baccis you've been replaced. The bread was this weird cross between week old French bread and some Mexican torta bread. I ordered hot peppers and they gave me a slop of pickled celery, and while I was there another gentleman actually went back and asked for giardineira peppers and the person at the counter had no clue what he was talking about. Come on, you can't have beef in your name and then serve this thing. Step your beef game up ladies and gents. Maybe switch the bread vendor to like Turano or Gonnella or something. The dog, the jumbo dog did upset my stomach a bit, once again the bread, if you are going to serve the dog serve it on the same type of hot dog bun you would a regular dog. It's like they used the bread they were supposed to use the Italian beef on the actual jumbo dog. Other than that everything was fine, the people working there were pretty nice and the service was on point. I am always willing to give someone a second chance, so I will probably roll the dice and go back, but try something else. I heard they sell chicken there. read more

When I want a tasty, filling meal and don't mind getting a bit sloppy about it, I'll go to Pop's in Lyons. I particularly love their gyros, which they're currently offering for $3. I don't think one can get the amount of food or taste for that kind of money at any other fast food place. They really don't skimp on the meat, and I've found it impossible to eat without a bunch falling off. But that just adds to the fun of eating the scraps after the main sandwich is finished. I also love their jalapeno poppers. They're not ordinary ones with a seedless jalapeno pepper filled with cream cheese, breaded and deep fried; but I like them just as much, because the level of hotness from the pepper is significant - quite close to that of a full pepper - but they add cheddar cheese to the mix with the cream cheese, and that provides an extra zing that I really enjoy. If you eat in, you can get the small drink and keep refilling it from the soda fountain in the eating area. I tried a couple of their milkshakes, and I like the vanilla and strawberry, but when I had the blueberry, I couldn't taste any blueberry flavor, though there were real bits of blueberry in the cup. I'd stick with the basics on that. I haven't tried any of the other sandwiches yet, but if they're comparable to the gyro, they'll satisfy any appetite. It seems like a popular place, and they have always had a bunch of energetic high-school aged folks behind the counter preparing the food and taking the orders. I believe they've got a number of other locations, and I'd be glad to try any of them based on what I've had at the one in Lyons. read more

Should have figured that a place that is all but empty at half past noon on a weekday(lunchtime)may not be all that great. My husband said the beef was good. The corned beef was chewy, but eatable. The fries were barely warm, hard, not crispy outside and soft inside, unsalted. The cheese cup to go with the fries had no taste at all. All in all disappointing. The prices were way out of line for the quality of their fare. Maybe we just need to try some of their other offerings. We'll give them another chance. read more

I just got back from Pop's and I had to write an review. I went there with my husband and we were greatly disappointed. I ordered a hot dog and fries and he ordered a chili cheese dog and a gyro. The hot dog tasted so disgusting. It has some nasty extra flavor to it that upset my stomach. Then there was the fries that tasted like nacho chips! They didn't even taste like fries! My husband got the gyro and he simply had to comment with the word, "Meh..." The only thing that is good about this place is that the Gyros are stuffed for only $3. So if you like a nasty hot dog and fries and only want a gyro that is "meh..." then go here. I will never be returning again. read more

After a couple years of stopping and picking up a beef here and there we booked the party room for our sons graduation party. Best decision we ever made. Danny and his staff were attentive, kept the soda and coffee flowing, made sure we needed for nothing , and packed up the leftovers to take home. The room is clean , well lit, and nicely decorated. This place is great. My daughter is taking dance lessons close by so I have been frequently going here. Try the breaded steak. It's one of the best if not THE best in the area. They were having a special on gyros, so I stopped in to try it. YUMMMM! It was one of the best gyros I ever had, hot and juicy, served with onions, sauce, and tomatoes. It was so big, I took some home to enjoy for breakfast the next day. I also wanted a root beer float, which wasn't on the menu, so the nice counter girls made one up, and charged me for a small shake. The restaurant is very clean, and the decor is charming, old school food posters framed everywhere. Prices are fair. I will be back. read more

Its far from perfect, the gyro's and beef's are child sized, you need to order a somthing more then a "regular" sized beef/gyro to be similar to what you would be standard elsewhere, think decent quality, low quantity. As far as salads go, ive only ordered the chopped salad, and living right around the corner, ive had my fair share of chopped salads from pops in the few years they been open, they are decent, not bad, definitely could hold a fight against the likes of portillos, however, they aren't even consistent with their salad, one time it to dry, next time its soaking, sometimes you get noodles, other times you cant seem to find more then 1 noodle, sometimes it was prepared last week, sometimes its prepared as you wait, there is no standard. Fries are pretty good, made 100 times better with a additional cup of cheese, im giving it 4 stars because while it isnt perfect, its one of the better only places in the area where you can get a decent bit, at a above normal price without having to worry about whether or not your eating beef, or some kind of pink slime crap that costs about 10 cents a pound. In business its all about location, location, location, and these guys have it down packed. PS: The Breaded Steak Sandwich (Called The Godfather, took me about a year to even figure out they offered a Breaded Steak Sandwich because the stupid name) The Breaded steak sandwich is golden! tastes so god, smaller then what you would get at the likes of rikobenes or freddies in bridgeport, but very good and definitely worth the trip, especially when they have it on special for 3 bucks! Great place to go when you're craving a beef and boy do I like this place! Their beef is very succulent and add the hot peppers, don't forget dipped, is even better. There portion on fries is awesome and the cheese dip could be better but I'm not going to complain more on that.I love cheese fries. Been here numerous times with my family. We have had never had a bad experience and we enjoy the food. I tried every one of the soups there all good. The fries rock. The beef is very good. The breaded steak sandwich is damn good though not as good as one from the near south side ;) We have even booked this place for our kids graduation party this weekend in there party room. read more

wow was i eating at a different place? YUCK.. I MEAN YUCK . When this place first opened me and my boyfriend were so excited to come here.. We came for lunch their staff was not paying attention to the customers up front they were fooling around in the kitchen. Whatever its fast food im not paying for A+ customer service. I get a meatball sandwich and my boyfriend got the combo whatever where it has beef and the italian sasuage. We ate there i couldnt finish my meatball sandwich or fries they were both terrible my boyfriend ate half of his as well because it was that un-bearable we couldnt finish it ... we both felt sick by the time we got home. I've been to Pop's in Orland Park but I have to say, this one is 10 times better! It is very nice inside and I think the people that work there are very, very friendly. I am always surprised by their good customer service! The food is tasty and you can't beat the price! I love the baby beef, it's just the perfect size! Not a fan of this place. My first visit was when they first opened, and i ordered an italian beef. by all the standards that i rate italian beef (texture, flavor, juiciness, the cheese, the peppers, etc.) this sandwich completely flunked. The meat tasted processed, the bread seemed stale (which is odd, the place had JUST opened, how long could they have been sitting on that bread?), and the au jus was bland. The giardiniera was all that saved the beef as a whole from being a complete disaster. Being a fair individual, i decided to give this place another try. I went in a few weeks later and ordered a cheeseburger. I was met with disappointment again, as the meat was flavorless, had way too much ketchup and mustard on it (trying to cover up the flavorless meat perhaps?), but worst of all, it was served to me barely lukewarm. how they couldve possibly botched my order this badly was a complete mystery to me, considering i was just about the only person in there. The decor inside this place makes it seem like the owners are trying very hard to imitate Portillo's, as does the expensive pricing on their menu. The sticker shock in combination with the subpar food will probably keep me from coming back to this place. For italian beef, ill continue to go to Buona Beef. And for burgers? I was going to Pop's 4 times a week for a salad and Danny & John were always very helpful as I could only have lettuce, cucumber and onion in it.One day (when they were'nt there) my salad was not the way I ordered it,. The following day John gave me a credit for another.Anyway, when I went to redeem the credit a redheaded girl at the drive thru informed me in a very rude tone that they "dont guarantee special orders". She was so rude that I asked for the manager to which her reply was"Im the general manager and the top dog here, my parents own this store".Really??? Within the hour I was at a Varsity football game telling everyone of my experience. I will NEVER go back there and I'm sure they lost a ton of customers.
