We had the hand cut fries, thin & crispy with a kick ass honey mustard sauce; catsup would insult these fries ! The classic fried catfish po'boy was crispy and yummy! The roast beef po'boy was a fantastic French dip type sandwich.We also tried the fried pickled okra and it did not disappoint! First time here. I got the Jake and Mac and cheese. Cody got the crawfish boiled sausage and greens. The mac and cheese is actually spaghetti noodles and it was awesome. The Jake was awesome, the bread was perfectly toasted and very tasty!!!! Cody said the greens were some of the best hes had and enjoyed his sandwich too!!!! So I'm visiting the region from out of town and decided to try this place to get a po'boy sampling. It's located around what I think is downtown Lafayette. There's on the street metered parking and a parking lot for customers behind the restaurant. Throughout the time I was there the restaurant stayed full with customers so I assumed the food must be pretty good. A steady soundtrack of Motown's greatest hits played over the speakers but not loud enough to be distracting. The menu was pretty simple, not too overwhelming and the cashier was helpful in making suggestions. I wanted to try both the shrimp and hot hot chicken po'boy but you can only order the combo if you're getting shrimp/oysters. I ordered the half of both. I rated a 3 because the wait was way longer than I expected considering the volume of customers. It took approximately an hour for my order. After 50 minutes I was told that "there was a major glitch in the computer system" and my order would be coming. I was starving and had to bag my order to go! I likely won't come back. read more

Holy for the love of Poboys ! Walked into this place thinking, snazzy little dive, let's see what they have. Well my husband and I ordered 4 different half Poboys just so we could try a tiny section of each and make a determination if this place was worthy. On our ticket we also added bus puppies, and Hot Hot sliders ( two tiny little chicken sliders is what they looked like oh how I was sadly mistaken. My husband took the first bite and when I saw a single tear flow from his left eye, I TAPED out before I even started. Yes they were HOT, but delicious. Next on to the Cardio , A+ sweet and slightly spicy Louisiana Pepper Jelly coating crispy fried shrimp topped with crawfish boiled sausage. Holy Hell Bat Man. Ah, finally got to try this place out, and it did not disappoint! Really love the ambience of this place and the vibe of the work staff! We had the following: - Banh Banh Shrimp - grilled marinated shrimp, chili garlic mayo, pickled carrots, cucumber, cilantro - I must start by saying that they chose the type of french bread for these poboys, it was so crusty and light! The grilled shrimp was cooked perfect and light, paired really well with the condiments inside - Jack Special - turkey, ham, debris style roast beef, smoked gouda, tomato, lettuce, blue plate mayo - this sandwich with a little bit more heavier and saltier than the shrimp, but the flavors were definitely there - House Cut Fries (I lost the picture) - was cooked to perfection! This is such a rad little spot downtown but I'm not a fan of the two poboys I've tried so far. I had the jack special and surf & turf. The jack special was OK, it wasn't anything crazy. The surf and turf was just very rich in its roast beef flavor and its all I could taste. I'm not giving up though, I will try more. My boyfriend likes the darlene. You can get the usual po'boy selections, such as fried shrimp or roast beef, but Pop's has some VERY creative po'boys that you can't get elsewhere, e.g., The Monster Mash (the Halloween meatloaf special), The Dirty Bird (fried chicken with creamy peppercorn sausage gravy), and The John Cho-Boy (Korean-style fried chicken with kimchee cole slaw, house-picked cucumbers, & kewpie mayonnaise). The first time we ever went there to eat by a recommendation from friends. We order our sandwiches. Mine was cold in the middle. I asked the waitress if she could heat it up. She took it and we waited and waited until my husband had to go and get it. He asked if it was ready so she checked and gave it to him. Opened took another bite a it was not even warm. Gheez needles to say I was not going to go back there again. Well about 11/2 months later. I would give them a second chance. Went and it was pretty chilly that day I parked on Jefferson really close to the place there was time left on the meter. As a native Louisianan who moved away years ago, any trip home is a quest to eat as much of my favorite foods as possible. My go to poboys are always fried shrimp or roast beef. Always! My daughter lives in Lafayette and she was excited to bring us here as it's her favorite poboy place. My sister and I decided to split a sandwich and she wanted catfish so I agreed. This was one of the best poboys I have ever had. It was amazing! My daughter ordered the Hot Hot which is fried chicken and a spicy sauce. Holy crap! It too was amazing. The sauce was so dark and rich that it tasted like a Mexican mole sauce. Incredible! We also had the fried pickled okra. I'm not usually a fried okra fan but I could have eaten the entire order. Great vegan options! The Red Bean Falafel Poboy can be made vegan upon request and it is very tasty! If you're looking for something lighter, the Roquette Salad is really good too. And you can actually add some falafel on top of your salad if you want the best of both. Went here last night. I'll break down my experience per item. Marty Mac-Fry: Really bland. No flavor at all without the jalapeños. We did not finish it among the three of us because it wasn't worth it. My friend described it as "a waste of calories" and I absolutely agree. Banh Banh Shrimp: the Shrimp was burnt! It tasted like they burned some of the sautéed shrimp and unsuccessfully tried to cover it up by dousing with mayo sauce. If you want eat a Banh Mi, you're better off going to a Vietnamese restaurant like Pho Saigon. The Boudreaux: I got a whole thinking that I'd save the other half for lunch tomorrow. Big mistake. The sandwich was described to contain a pickled okra tartar sauce but It was actually SMOTHERED in raw onions. It was covered in so many onions that I only ate a quarter and couldn't eat it anymore. Good thing I wasn't on a date because I didn't have gum. Probably wouldn't have helped anyways. We've visited from out of town so this review is from that one visit. The scene: Modern sandwich shop with a bar hidden in the back, perfect to hang out with a couple friends. After reading some of the reviews here, it appears we lucked out by visiting Thursday evening (7:30 pm) and it was busy but had no issue getting our food in a timely manner. What we ordered: Banh Banh Shrimp Po'boy, Classic Shrimp Po'boy, Fried Pickled Okra, Bougie Rouge Cocktail, and a Harney & Sons Lemonade and Swamp Orange Pop for the road. The sandwiches are served on a french bread instead of a baguette that is more traditionally served, but it did not disappoint and fit that perfect balance of light with good crisp. The shrimp was sizable and cooked perfectly. We ordered a large and were both filled by finishing only half of the sandwich. Kept well in the fridge overnight for lunch the following day. My partner loves fried okra while cannot stand anything pickled, yet the fried pickled okra won him over. They served fresh and hot, and the ranch wasn't overly rich and overpowering. The Bougie Rouge Cocktail reminded my partner of a popular "house party" punch he had often in college. It was sweet like the Swamp Strawberry Pop but with a kick of alcohol right behind it. So let me start off by saying that I've been in New Orleans for about a decade and have had a Po-boy at nearly every single reputable (and some not so reputable) institution serving these staples of Louisiana living. I'm not claiming to be an expert, but I can tell the good from the bad. Let me tell you - these po-boys are INCREDIBLE. Ok so let me back up - some of these sandwiches are not "technically" po-boys. Sometimes there's something more than lettuce, pickles, tomato and mayo. But you know what? Rules are meant to be broken. Is a roast beef and gravy po-boy not a po-boy because of the gravy? Of course not! We accept the gravy because at some point someone decided to break conventions and everyone collectively decided it was delicious. This is where Pop's sets itself apart. They've got the traditionals down, but where they truly shine is with their all-original creations. Please, for the love of all that is good in this world, try the "hot hot". I promise it's not really that hot and it'll be one of the best chicken sandwiches that's ever passed your lips. Great quality bread and ingredients overall. If you order the fries, prepare for a massive serving (enough for 2-3 people) and make sure to get them with the awesome seasoning Bottom line: Sorry traditionalists - change can be a good thing! If you're ever in the area, don't miss the chance to challenge your notions of what a po-boy can really be. For the past several years, Lafayette has been suffering from mediocre poboys. The great days of Old Tyme's overstuffed behemoths are well behind us, although it certainly tastes as though they haven't changed their fryer oil since then. Chris' used to be a solid bet, but now nothing in particular stands out. Julien's spends more on racist interior decor than they do on the meagre stuffing they deign to slaughter on their stale bread. So it is with joy that we welcome Pop's. Pop's gives a shit. They use fresh ingredients on fresh bread. They have good ideas for specialty sandwiches, but they don't reinvent the wheel. You can order a fried shrimp, or a debris poboy, or you can order their red bean falafel or their Cajun Cubano. And it's all good. The sides? All good (especially the fried pickled okra. Yeah, you heard me). The salads? Fresh and local, motherfucker. So yeah, notice has been served on all you other stale-bread dirty-fryer motherfuckers.
