My grandmother had to go to St. Clair's, a local hospital, so my mother and I also came along. We decided to eat here since I had never been and they hadn't been for over a decade. They said it was one of the best Chinese restaurants. Of course, I was immensely excited to go to a Chinese restaurant, since where I live there aren't any. Once we got there I saw that the workers were white. I was a bit skeptical, but once we got to the buffet tables I saw all of the amazing foods and felt reassured that it wouldn't be too bad. I loaded my plate with lo mein, an egg roll, two dumplings, some green beans, and a bit of broccoli. First of all, the lo mein was very dry, the egg roll was immensely sweet (very unusual for an egg roll), the broccoli was odd and had a strange after taste, the green beans were mediocre, and so were the dumplings. I couldn't bear myself to eat the odd broccoli, the lo mein, and the egg roll. My grandmother has a HUGE sweet tooth, so when she saw the cheesecake, she was invigorated and excited to feast on it. After we all finished, we moved on to the desserts. Well, expect my mother, she had got the rice and apparently it was delicious, so she decided to get some seconds). My grandmother got a slice of cheesecake and a strange dessert I'm going to call a crisp cake. I got a mini mocha cake (the ones that have a moose filling) and a crisp cake. My grandmother's cheesecake was freezer burnt. Its corners had the texture of slushing ice, but the middle was frozen solid. She said it tasted like vaseline, and she had me take a bite. It had the texture and taste of vaseline with a bit of vanilla. She decided to not eat anymore, which, as I said, she absolutely loves cheesecake, so you know it was abominable. The mocha cake, which is usually a bit under room temperature, was as cold as ice cream. The crisp cake was almost frozen solid. Now the decorations. It was like what you would see normally in Chinese buffet expect for two, rather odd, things. First, in one of the two sitting areas had bright, neon pink lights. There was a crystal chandelier that, honestly, looked like a titty. Small and perky. Edit: I would also like to mention that the broccoli was withered. We ordered the lunch buffet and the food was ok. They seemed to care about COVID and had an employee serve the food behind the plastic wall, disposable cups and plates. Employees were kind and friendly. Although, one of the employees that was serving the food was sneezing constantly. Luckily, she had a mask on, but too close for my comfort. Later, I saw her switch with another employee (who wasn't wearing a mask) to go to the kitchen to blow her nose with her gloves on. I didn't see her change her gloves when she returned to the buffet area. They need to renovate badly. Everything is outdated, furniture stacked up in front of the restaurant, and dust everywhere. we hadn't been there in a while, went yesterday and I have to say the place it has went down hill Is an understatement. What Upset me more than anything is mashed potatoes off the food hot bar was ice cold should of been hot and on the cold bar crab / seafood salad should of been cold and was super warm. I made them aware of it and they said the electric had been off . Didn't seem to care or have a concern. They should have taken them off. If they knew that the electric was off long enough that mashed potatoes was ice cold and that the crab salad got warm they should had pulled that food off not served it until electric was back on. Drive 23 miles from Flemingsburg, KY for a buffet gamble? You bet I will! I need to show this place some love and update to the suggestions made from earlier reviews. This buffet is in a college town- as a serve yourself kind of place it makes sense to pay at the door- best part is if you stick around long enough and study you can just have two meals and it's then cheaper than most other options for the quality. Variety and freshness definitely has been improved upon - caveat- that's not wonton soup in the display... It's melted butter... That's right. I don't know if maybe there used to be crab legs for those or not, but be warned. I love high end sashimi bars all way to those sketchy bodegas in old Louisville neighborhood and this buffet ranks with some of my favorites. Dining area was kept clean during our stay. We normally never buy soft drinks when eating out. But here, the price is the price whether you want a soft drink or not! I went to the bathroom to wash my hands before eating. Disgusting. There were puddles of urine under the urinals. Literally! Puddles!! I was so disgusted how filthy the bathroom was I almost asked for my money and walked out. When I got to the buffet, the selection was very poor. When do you have a Chinese buffet that doesn't have the mainstay of General Tso's chicken? Here is where!! The only thing I had that was pretty good, were the ribs. I'm used to 2 and most times 3 lines of hot items to choose from at the Chinese buffets at home. This one had 1 & 1/2! They had pizza and even mashed potatoes! Additionally the food was old and not fresh. The hot sauce bottles were crusty with dried stuff on the outside etc. The dinning room was dirty. I love this place. I will most definitely go back when I am town. The staff was very attentive and courteous. They were wonderful, honestly. They truly only want the best for their customers and really stand behind what they serve. The options are awesome. There is the traditional Americanized Chinese fair, and there are more unique options when compared to other Chinese restaurants in the state. Yet almost all of the food was old. You can tell that the kitchen staff put a lot of work and thought into each and every dish. You can tell that they take a lot of pride in their food. Yet it was all old and... bad. This is probably the best Chinese (Asian food in general) buffet I've ever been to. The buffet has many options along with a dessert table. They have some American styled options such as pizza (super handy if you have picky children). The establishment is clean, MUCH cleaner than any Golden Corral I've ever been to. It has almost as many options as Golden Corral, but instead has Chinese food. On weekends it's more expensive to eat here, but the grill is open meaning you can get a steak cooked right in front of you. No charge! It's all included in the buffet price. The place is great for large groups and families. I suggest not to eat here around cold and flu season, because it is a buffet. It's a pretty decent place to eat at. I also watched one of the workers scrape old food, very old food into a container of new food and mix it together and then stick it back in to the salad bar. I used to love this place but every time we order from there lately they always forget something. We live 45 minutes from this place last time we ordered they didn't put all of our rice in our bag. I called to complain because this is like the 3rd time we didn't have all of what we ordered so I finally called. The manager told me that we could come back to get it if we wanted. I told her I was already home. She said well we give that to you for free any way. I told her it was part of the meal I paid full price for not free. She said that she would just give me two extra white rices next time. I said who wants two extra white rices with there meal? I asked her if I could just get a discount next time and she told me absolutely not, only two free extra white rices would be all I could get. It truly saddens me to write this review because this place was once one of my favorite places. However, this place keeps going down hill and after the last visit here I am doubtful I will ever return. They are trying to offer fresh sushi by having someone there rolling rolls, but when I looked at the selection there were slices of grayish salmon on the selection bar (not sure salmon is suppose to be that color). The bathrooms are nasty too! I thought maybe it was just a fluke they were as bad as they were, but then after another visit, and seeing the bathroom in even worse shape YUCK! Was pleasantly surprised! We were traveling home from the south and we stopped in Kentucky for some food. Choices were slim, and at first we exed out Chinese food in the middle of Kentucky. However, it was the lesser of all evils in the area. All I can say is I'm glad we stopped! We had their lunch buffet and it was pretty good. They had sushi and it was fresh and decent. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. They have different menus before 3:30 and on weekends. They offer crab on weekends, but there is a premium price and I really don't think it's worth it. Those thin little king crab legs are just too much work for too little meat. I think you're limited to two servings of crab. On the up side, contrary to what another reviewer wrote, I think their sushi is fine. The sashimi has always been fresh and they have several sushi choices. I like anything wrapped in tasty seaweed. I've eaten sushi all over the SF Bay Area, and all things considered, the rates well as far as buffet sushi goes. They always have tasty fish broiled in butter. Yummy. I always get a big piece. They also often have mussels on their dinner buffet (not for lunch), and often have good sized iced shrimp as well. They offer fried won ton and plenty of sauces to spice up any dish. On weekends they grill beef to order. It smells good, but I'm not a beef person so I can't really give an opinion. They have all the usual Chinese suspects when it comes to buffet chicken, beef and pork entrees. Most have too much sauce for my taste, but they seem to be popular. The dinner menu sometimes features fried frog legs. They're pretty tasty and I was kind of knocked-back to find them on a small town buffet. They have a good hot tea making machine and the soft-serve ice cream is better than at another local Chinese buffet which will remain anonymous. This is just about the best Chinese buffet in the area. The food consistently tastes fresh and well prepared. The entree variety is exceptional and they frequently have entrees not commonly found in this area (mussels, crab legs, etc.). The dining room is nicely decorated and the restrooms clean. The price sometimes varies upward if more expensive entrees are being offered (and they may limit the number of times you can fill your plate with crab legs), but the good value is still there. My husband and I went to this restaurant for the first time in 5 years. They charged $28 for two adults to eat the buffet. They asked if we wanted to eat crab legs and we said no...so I can only assume they would have charged more. The last time we ate here, they charged about $20 for two adults. I was shocked by how expensive they were. The buffet was old and cold. There were several people digging into all the food and we had to wait around in line to get ours. I was so disappointed and told my husband that with their prices, we could have went to Buffalo Wild Wings and ate fresh food for cheaper. (By fresh, I mean recently cooked, not farmers market.) We will never be going back to this place. The Chinese man at the register acted appalled when I showed my shock for their outrageous prices. Most people in Morehead are barely scraping by and $30 for just 2 adults to eat a cold, chinese buffet is absurd!!!
