Wow. Just wow. This is the kind of bbq joint that puts others to shame. Great staff with quick and kind service, we were immediately greeted and seated. They make their own beer cheese which is a great appetizer but be warned, it's served cold in the can... not warm and saucy. Their fried catfish was perfect. Their pulled pork... perfect. Smoky and savory. Their pulled chicken was moist and flavorful. The menu was epic... no we didn't save any room for dessert... how could you? This place was awesome! My coworker and I were in the general vicinity and had people tell us to try it. So we drove a little extra out of the way to try it out. My coworker got the half slab of ribs and couldn't stop talking about how amazing his food was. I got the 2 meat combo with brisket, ribs, and fries. It was pretty darn good. The only complaint I would have is that the brisket was a little fatty and the fries were cold and soggy. Amazingly, they still tasted pretty good. The service was great. My first time in Kentucky and I am so glad I found myself at Pops for lunch! This place is awesome! The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. If you're someone who likes barbecue food and fair priced food I recommend Pops! I ordered the platter that came with the option of two meats and two sides. My girlfriend got the chicken tenders and the loaded baked potato. My platter came with ribs, brisket, baked beans, and fries. The ribs were fantastic, the meat practically fell off the bone. The smoke flavor was great and so was the sauce slathered all over. The brisket was cooked to perfection. This was probably some of the best brisket I've had in a very long time. Nothing was dry about it, I would order that any day! The beans tasted a bit burned, but over all the had a good flavor throughout. The chicken tenders and AMAZING. If I could drive back to Kentucky just for the chicken I 100% would. They were moist and crisp. They had such awesome flavor. I raved about them all day. The loaded baked potato was also just as good. It came with pulled pork and if that isn't enough to convince you to get it then I hope this review is! Unfortunately, we weren't satisfied with our food. We have eaten here before and enjoyed everything; the service, the ambiance and especially the catfish dinner. But this time the food was subpar. The catfish was soggy with old oil and the fries which were crisscut, were soggy also. They looked like the broken ends out of freezer bag. We also had the brisket which was fatty and flavorless. Sitting just down the road from Cave Run Lake, Pops Southern Style Barbecue smokes the best brisket, wings, turkey, and Tri-tip in town!! As a regular, I've tried most everything on the menu! My favorite apps are the Firecracker chicken, and the in house pork rinds!! For the Entrees, I'd have to go with the Wings and Brisket! And everything they have for dessert is killer! BUT!! Overall, this is the best BBQ restaurant I've been to. This place is so good, I'm just beside myself. Brussels sprouts were excellent--they're shredded, so not like the whole or half sprouts you might be used to elsewhere. This makes them extra crispy, and they're perfectly salted. Delicious. Pulled pork loaded fries (with beer cheese) were outrageous, too. It was like Pop tried poutine once and wanted to show those Canucks what's possible in the land of the free and home of the brave. Then, you've got the meat: those 36 hour baby back ribs and the brisket were so tender, smoky and delicious. The turkey!! Who knew turkey breast could be so good?! Top it all with a shake make with their homemade berry ice cream, and you're good to go. This is Place is definitely worth the drive. Usually it is extremely packed but we didn't even have a wait today. The Pork and Ranch fries are the Bomb I will definitely be going back. I wish I could give them TEN Stars. It was that good. We kept it simple, in order to fully indulge in our favorite--Ribs. These were hands down the best ribs I have ever eaten. Ever. They truly didn't even require any sauce, but the "sweet BBQ" sauce was so tasty I layered some on. If you like ribs, heck even if you usually don't, come to Pop's, you will not be disappointed. I enjoyed the ribs, they were done correctly, moist, and tasty. The smoke flavor was lite. The barbecue sauce, house flavor and made, was mild. Being of KC style I believe that the weak smoke and mild sauce made it a four star meal....if I could rate a 4.5 I would because of the beans. The surprise treat is the ice cream. Waited all winter for Pop's to open. The smoked turkey has always been delicious. I was so disappointed when my wife brought some home for supper and it was a slimy, tasteless processed product with no flavor (no smoke). The only reason I'm giving three stars is because the brisket was greasy but decent. Hopefully ownership will switch back to the turkey and the smoking process they used last year. read more

Definitely worth the stop! Busy but still courteous and prompt service. We both had the brisket which was delicious. Onions rings were great too. We came in at 7:45 and they. Close at 8. Our waitress was extremely friendly, there is someone who gave a tip that the staff was rude but our experience was fantastic, the staff went above and beyond, but I'll talk about that at the end. Everyone ordered and everyone got what they wanted and the rest errant wasn't out of anything. The pulled pork was the best I've had in a very long time. We got one of their their home made hand spun chocolate milkshakes and they too were fantastic. We left and as we were standing outside taking some family pictures to remember the cute little barbecue place my youngest sister realized she had forgotten her milkshake on the table. She walked back in and found the table had been cleared. Even though the milkshake was nearly empty one of the waitresses made her another one. My sisters and I stopped in here 8/14/16 after being told by a local this was the place to go, the place was packed with a line out the door! There were 5 of us and a toddler and we were able to get 2 booths next to each other which was fine for us. The service was great! 2 servers tagged teamed us and did excellent. They even brought out some free fries for my nephew who was getting tired and fussy. I ordered some Jalapeno rings for an appetizer which were the best jalapeno things I have ever had! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with a sweet potato and a to go sandwich with mac and cheese for the boyfriend. There was so much meat that before I left I asked to 2 extra buns, one for me a sandwich later and one for him to split his into 2. The sides were both well prepared and good. I split my potato with my sister and in return she shared her cole slaw, KFC used to be my favorite until I had Pop's! My total after the tip was only $22 and some change. Visited here while working, wasn't impressed. Came around 2pm, a non-peak time, was greeted right away however it was over 10 minutes to get our drinks, another 20 to get our food. The outside has tons of seating (in the shade too!) The inside is cute as well. My pulled pork was ok, and the brisket reuben was impressive and presented wonderfully. What killed it for us, the BBQ sauce tasted like a ketchup base, we were given flimsy plastic forks, and the waitresses wear short running shorts and sloppy shirts. For a fun BBQ place, we don't expect the Four Seasons, but adult utensils would be nice as well as waitresses who dress as they're serving food at a family BBQ, not like they're cleaning the weekend cabin. read more

This place has great five star burgers that are grilled to perfection. However the beef brisket is inedible and less than one star. It was mostly fatty and beyond chewy and cold. I ended up throwing my $12 lunch away. Also just be aware this place and the employees are barely practicing any social distancing measures for you protection. We decided on Pop's for dinner and gave it a try. We were lucky to get a seat inside when we arrived (6:30 pm). They have seats outside as well but it was extremely hot and humid this weekend. Not too many seats inside but the food and service was great. I had baby back ribs, onion rings, and their green beans. The ribs were outstanding and came dry. They have three homemade bbq sauces. So I decided to mix the spicy and sweet. The burgers were tasty but a tad bit over cooked. I blame that on how busy they were. The flavor of the brisket was passable but the meat came in huge pieces and was extremely fatty. The pork ranch fries were on par with any other small business loaded fries. Hands-down best barbecue in the area. They have everything that you need - smoked meats, perfect sides, extra apps and fantastic milkshakes. They also have special desserts. The not-so-obvious choice and my favorite - the smoked turkey. It is incredibly flavorful and moist. Can be very crowded (a good sign!) during their summer season. From what I hear this place can get extremely busy. We were lucky as there were only a handful of people there when we stopped. This place is located in between I-64 and Cave Run Lake. It is the perfect place to stop and grab lunch to take on the boat. We just walked up and a waitress came to us and asked if we wanted eat in or take it to go. Since we wanted to take it on the boat we ordered to go and just kind of hung out outside while they made our orders. We did not have to wait too long and she brought our food to us ready to go. From what I saw there was limited seating inside and a handful of tables outside so you could eat there if you chose to. The food was amazing. The brisket, pulled pork, and chicken were all delicious. There sides were good too. This will definitely be a regular stop to get lunch on the way to the lake. read more

This is little mom and pop, small down-home kind of place located just a few minutes from interstate 64. Also, I passed it on my way out from Cave Run Lake, I would say it would definitely be worth going a couple of miles out of the way if you're traveling the interstate looking for some cheap, good grub. There are only about 12 tables inside, but there are covered outside dining areas out front and at the side of the building. When you step inside, there isn't a clear direction whether or not you seat yourself or stand and wait to be seated. Just as I spotted the sign that indicated 'ring bell for service' we were led to the only available table in the place. The place was packed! If you're in an RV or hauling a boat, there's plenty of parking in front and even at the church next door... I just so happen to have noticed. I'm not a huge BBQ fan, so I went with the chicken tender sandwich meal. It comes with a side and I chose fries. They were the crinkle cut kind and had a hint of seasoning... just right! The tenders seemed to be hand breaded, not the frozen kind that you commonly find in restaurants. There were three BBQ sauces available, hot, regular and sweet. I wasn't a fan of the two that I tried, but then again, I'm not a BBQ fan. I happened to have noticed the massive amount of hot sauces lined up along the along the shelf that separates the two dining areas. My husband ordered a platter, which consisted of smoked turkey and his choice of two sides. I tasted the onion rings and they were excellent, perfectly and lightly battered. The smoked turkey was served in thin slices and was absolutely amazing. He finished up with Reese cup ice cream and raved about it. All of that for under $25 before the tip.
