It's hard to admit that something has been under your nose the whole time yet you were completely oblivious. Such is my story with Porras Prontito. Born and raise in the East side, working near the Loop and getting my haircut literally 1 mile down the street from here for over 7 years at least. Of course though, as soon as I posted a picture on social media of the sign, everyone and they mama started hitting me up stating how much they loved that place. Thanks for holding out on me, everyone. Lol Having lived in SA for a few years, I've become a big fan of carne guisada. Sure, it was a staple at Hispanic parties and events such as birthdays, weddings, etc but that's all it ever was to me: a quick, easy and cheap option when you've spent all your money on the other things for the event/party. But my mind was changed in SA and I realized it too late to enjoy it to the fullest in the Alamo city. Fast forward to a year after I moved back to Houston and I discovered this place (years after everyone else did, apparently). You couldn't make it up if you wanted to: a small, hole in the wall spot with a rich history, acclaimed by the community and without having to drive across town?! This place is great and a much needed option aside from the regular fast food in the area. The flour tortillas are big and flaky, the rice is full of flavor, the beans are nice and mushy and their guisada is tender and delicious. Add a few slices of veggies and the green fold of avocados just add a shiny bow to this plate. If you're a breakfast taco person, which we all are, then you NEED to try their Henry taco. Unless of course you don't like a runny egg in the middle of every other breakfast ingredient (bean, cheese, potato, etc)which in that case, grow up.

Migas and huevos a la mexicana . The best!

Just south of I 10 is the best Mexican breakfast spot in Houston. The breakfast plates are wonderful, cooked to perfection with homemade tortillas. Better than a trip to Mexico! And the salsa is first rate, too!

Food is good. Value is great. , you can tell it's a wholesome mom and pop shop that has the right people cooking. The Carne guisada is awesome. But the fajita (skirt steak) is bomb. Highly recommend . It doubles as a convenience store, so u could get your drink there as well

Eggs and sausage breakfast plate I was eating nothing but grease. Also had no seasoning.

I got the eggs and sausage plate. Once I opened it I noticed a lot of grease I tried to ignore it . But as I got a first bit I was eating nothing but grease. It also had no flavor to anything also looks very unsanitary. Won't be coming back here.

Good Breakfast Tacos Pros: - tacos are made or order - fresh made tortillas - large portion size. Two tacos more than fills me up. - shredded cheese is available Cons: -salsa is very mild. Porras makes a solid breakfast taco. I just wish their salsa was more spicy.

Moldy rice!

Thanks for the Moldy Rice in my damn tacos! My carne guisada tacos had molded rice. I was already halfway thru when my coworker stopped me from eating any more! Pissed! I better not get sick!

For drinks, my husband and our friends tried some of the margaritas from their large and unique margaritas menu, as well as their hibiscus agua fresca. All of the drinks were very pretty and it seemed like everyone enjoyed them, too! We started with their chips and salsa trio, which we all really liked. The chips were on the thicker side, but were crispy and not stale or chewy at all. Each of the salsas were quite different, and two were served warm, which we really liked! For the price, I'd consider getting the chips and salsa as a non-negotiable, honestly. For entrees, we tried the enchilada rojas, chilaquiles verde w/ chicken and beef, birria barbacoa ramen, and huaraches. My husband felt like his ramen could have included more meat, but aside from that everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. The highlight was probably the desserts, though! We got a quatro leches and two ordered of their giant and amazing churros. Both were incredibly tasty and reason enough to return for another visit in the future!

It was my first time trying out Tex mex style. It was so busy on a Saturday evening. The chips that were given to each table was incredibly warm and the sauces paired so well. That tamale was amazing. I would get several orders of that soft white tamale by itself to go. And the service was a 10/10. Service was remarkable and very friendly from the host to the cleaning staff. Food was delicious. I really appreciated the creative flavors that were inspired by authentic Mexican cuisine. Standouts were the guacamole and wagyu carne asada, but everything was fantastic. I loved the Clara cocktail and enjoyed learning about the process to create it. It is clear that there was care and attention behind each menu item. Also, the pace of the food being brought out was evenly paced, which I appreciate, and our server gave us just the right amount of attentiveness. We celebrated my husband's birthday here, and they sent out a tres leches with a candle on it. Very kind and very delicious dessert. Usually not a big fan of tres leches, but this one was not overwhelmingly soaked in condensed milk, and it has a very fresh tasting peach (seasonal) puree drizzled on top. We will most definitely return.

We ordered the breakfast burrito and the duck carnitas. We added barbacoa to the burrito, and it was honestly the definition of comfort food. It was EXTREMELY greasy though, so I ended up eating it with a fork and knife. If I had been home alone... I probably would've just shoved the whole thing in my mouth. I couldn't not order the duck carnitas. It came on a sope, which is basically my definition of the perfect Mexican brunch. It was really yummy, and I especially loved the salsa that came with it. My only real critique is that the portions felt a little on the smaller side. Either bump them up a bit or add a small side, because I definitely could've eaten a little more.
