So I tried their grilled chicken breast burrito as a togo order so I can't speak of the sitin experience. However, the food I got was quite a let down. I know the carryout experience and sitdown can vary tremendously so again, that is the major caveat for my review. Anyways, I airfried my burrito so that it would be warm (I didn't eat it till after work and my partner got one for me during lunch time). Air frying it did make parts of the tortilla crispy so that was kind of nice. The actual burrito was extremely one note in terms of flavor. No grill or any spice flavor on the chicken, just dry, sad chicken breast. The beans and rice didn't taste like much either, had the texture of refried beans but again, that's about it. I tried to save it with their salsas but those also had minimal flavor and took basically using a whole minicontainer of their salsa to discern any notable flavor. The point that's keeping 2 vs 1 star is that the burrito was massive and filling. I think its a great sustanance meal, not too expensive but filled with carbs, protein, etc. and can keep you full for quite some time but again, you'll be missing out on flavor but sometimes we just need cheap, quick, fuel. read more

I have been eating lunch here about once a week for a few months, I like the food and the prices (especially on the combos) are very fair. However, the problem is with this location is whom I can only guess is the manager. He is an older Hispanic fella that seems to be loosing his hair. He is just a rude nasty person, he is never friendly, never smiles in fact he wears a scowl on his face. He never offers a greeting or a kind word, never asks how is/was the food or thanks anyone for their business...in fact he is usually in the back doing nothing but playing on his phone, he is the worst choice for a front of house manager they could hire. He's the kind of person that will make you not ever come back or subconsciously find something wrong with the food when there really isn't anything wrong with it. One time they accidentally gave me the wrong plate of food (completely different that what I ordered) he was so rude to ME about it and made it seem like it was MY fault, when it was just a simple mistake from the expediter Now the good with this location are some of the OTHER staff members, especially a young man named Angel...he is what you want greeting and dealing with customers, friendly, fast on the register, engaging, always has a smile on his face and a friendly greeting. There is also a very tall Hispanic lady that seems to maybe be assistant manager? I dont know her name but another asset to the restaurant she is a hard worker...in fact even the bus ladies are nice and hard working. Not bad, but I've definitely had better. I tried the Panchos appetizer, which was okay. The beef was really tasty and tender, but I wasn't a fan of the cheese sauce, as it was bland, as was the overall dish. I've been eating here for years. Lately I get the Pirata Jr. Two tocos for under 8 dollars is pretty good. Enchiladas and fajitas are good. I used to get the quesadillas but the last one I had was pinche with the chicken. Nachos used can cheese and they did nothing to modify the taste. This place has been on my radar for a while. Though I pass by it often, was never drawn to find out what they serve until today. Scrolling through Yelp! I wanted something new to eat. I sorted the choices by distance and fell on the site page. Anyone who knows me knows that Mexican is my fave. I love fajitas the most, followed closely by chips and queso and rounding out the top three is quesadillas. Since I've never been here, thought it best to stick to the basics. I pulled in the drive thru and looked over the menu. I asked a few questions and then placed my order. One single beef fajita quesadilla, one single chicken quesadilla and one ground beef taco, with a drink. Pulled forward and proceeded to sit in line for over 20 min. There were three cars in front of me when I placed the order and it seemed to take the car at the window a very long time to receive their food. Once they pulled off, the trend continued. Each car before mine just sat at the window and then after more than five minutes, received their order and left. Once I was at the window, the cashier was extremely nice, even apologized for over-filling my drink and left me at the window for another 3 minutes. No one inside seemed to be moving fast to service the customers either at the counter or the drive thru. Finally, I got my food and was on my way home. Now, I will say that while the service may have bothered me, I enjoyed the food. Both quesadillas were cooked through and extra cheesy; the picadillo was seasoned well and very tasty and the mild green sauce made the food yummy. I didn't like the taco shell; tasted old and dried out but that's my only complaint. Gave 3 out of 5 stars as I hope the wait is shorter in the future and crunchy taco shells fresher. I had never heard of this place until recently. My friend ate at a T.P. in McAllen and kept raving about how good the food is. This place reminds me of Taco Cabana or Chacho's (drive-thru, open 24 hours, salsa bar, etc.). I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I got there. The building is older and the dining room seems a bit outdated, but you know the saying: you can't judge a book by it's cover. I had the crispy taco plate. It came with 3 beef tacos, rice, and refried beans. It was so much food and pretty reasonable for the price. The salsa bar was awesome. I trekked here with my sister--she was dying to try some mole. Since Taqueria del sol didn't have any my sister insisted that we try this place out. It's near the Concord Apartments that's by the HEB. The building used to be a bank--that's why back in 2006 and 2007 I didn't see it. We walked up to the counter to order and the cashier standing there just staring at us--she didn't look as if she spoke English, but she was staring at us as if we were mute. Then, the manager--Frank came to our rescue. He asked us if this was our first time visiting and we politely said, "Yes!" He then became happy. He started grinning really hard and showed us the popular dishes on the menu. My sister ordered the plate with mole and I got a combo with Spanish noodle soup, 2 tacos, and a drink. As we sat down to wait for our food to come out. Frank came to our table to tell us that the chips are homemade and free, the dips were free and homemade, and the drinks had a free refill. I was thinking, wow everything is so free. I like that..a lot! The food was so delicious. Everything tasted so fresh. Frank checked on us again. We started chatting about how late the restaurant stayed open. From 6am to 1:30am: that's good for college students or late night eaters. He was eager to meet two Blacks--I'm guessing all he sees is Hispanics. Frank was very friendly, welcoming, and made my sister and I feel like we were at home. They have a drive-thru too! They have 2 Spanish drinks: Horchata and Jamaica. The Horchata literally tastes like Christmas to me because of the amount of cinnamon. Also, the Jamaica is the nectar from a Hibiscus flower. It had a light taste to it--definitely not overly sweet. I will say this place beats Taco Bell and Taco Cabana any day of the week. The worst customer service ever! They gave us the wrong order and tried to make us pay the difference. Then argued with us and when we were missing four tacos we just wanted. They then refunded us the $22 and charged us for the quesadilla and drink instead of just giving us the four tacos we were missing. The women name Irma was not helpful. read more
