    Giant chocolate chip cookie

I love this place for their empanadas and doughnuts. The crust of the empanadas are slightly sweet. Come early when they are freshly baked! The spinach ones are delicious. The doughnuts are the basic flavours. Nothing fancy, but the texture of the doughnut is way better than what you would get at Tim Hortons. The price is about $1 each or less depending on how many you purchase. They did a giant Valentine's Day cookie for my kids that was delicious! The staff is always so nice. They give my kids doughnut holes whenever they come in. A huge bonus is that they are a NUT FREE FACILITY! This is one of the only places that I can rest assured that my nieces and nephews can safely eat their food!

Butter tarts - less than $1 each, and YUM!

Still 5-star worthy in 2014. I'm not here year-round, so I only get to check in a few times a year, but everything is as I remember in my last (more extensive) review. As Vijaya notes in her review, the donuts are yeast variety, which I don't usually like because of their consistency (I usually prefer the denser cake-donut variety). But here they do something to give the very light donut a bit of a crunch. I put it down to "magic". Vijaya also notes that the Boston creme filling is spread, not injected - I see this as preferable to a big glob in one quarter of the donut, because you get creme in every bite. To each their own, I guess. On my visits this summer, I was overjoyed to see BUTTER TARTS. I'd asked in prior years if they ever made them, and was told "only around Christmas", but by popular request they had them, and on special for $4.50 for 6! These are not huge tarts, but they are excellent, and for comparable quality they would be twice the price at "The Flaky Tart" and other winning tart makers. I'm not a fan of raisins in my butter tarts, and P.U.B. makes them with and without, also a plus for me.

Port Union Bakery was one of those places, based on reviews, that I really wanted to like. For one, it's a neighborhood joint, family run. Also, the thought of local fresh baked goods was alluring, as I am a fiend for carbs. And, it's only a 10 minute drive from where I live, so total score right? Well, here are my thoughts. I headed out this morning around 11 am to grab a doughnut or two. Prime time for baked goods, I would hope. They had quite the variety: Chocolate Dip, Vanilla Dip, Sugar, Cinnamon/Sugar Twist, etc. All were yeast based I thought, or at least not cake doughnut-like. I chose the Boston Cream, and Dutchie. They both had crumbly textures and were on the drier side. Disappointing :( I had anticipated the fluffy, chewy texture associated with a yeast doughnut, and was totally let down. May be they use baking powder/soda here instead? I don't know. Moreover, the vanilla pudding/custard/cream in the Boston Cream was spread sparingly. No squishy, gooey goodness here. I hate to say it, as I am one to root for the underdog, but Tim Hortons has better. I may return to try their Empanadas down the road.

    Nice little local bakery

We got there a little after 11 and already the place was jamming. All we wanted were a couple of cannolis and sfogliatellas. When we got them home, the product did not disappoint. We felt like we had been immediately transported back to Napoli where we enjoyed these delicacies fresh out of the bakery. Their pizza line is also crazy. You need to be sure to show up as early as possible, or they run out. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Aside from the hustle and bustle, it has a great atmosphere, but I would not recommend eating there unless you feel comfortable with a mass of people all around you.

Nutella croissant, pistachio cream filled. Staff super friendly took my order gave recommendations. Croissant was crispy versus buttery had a decent amount of Nutella in there. Not sure if it's more crispy vs buttery or just end of day. The pistachio filled donut was heavy filled with whip cream delicious and not lactose friendly. Tiramisu good on the sweeter side not too heavy on coffee flavor whip cream and cake bottom. Not super traditional but it's okay. 3 separate counters to order different food items this place can get quite full. Little bit hard to find the price on the items it's not listed with the food itself. In the middle of the place there are tables and chairs to sit and eat at which is nice. Not just a take out spot. Great especially in the winter. Havent had a chance to try the prepared foods or pizza that is for the next visit!

Tips: - Sign up for Breadcrumbs rewards to get a discount on…read moreyour next order and a free treat on your birthday. - This bakery was fully stocked with baked goods and bread at 4 pm on a Saturday. I have been on a bakery kick as of late. While in Pickering last Saturday, I found this COBS Bread nearby. I headed over because it has strawberry items that are new additions on the menu. This bakery is in a plaza. Burger King and Scotiabank anchor it. I parked fairly close to this bakery. I then walked over. There was a couple ahead of me attempting to place an order. The woman was unsure of what she wanted. The man seemed like he just wanted to leave. They were being helped by a man behind the counter. I immediately got a friendly woman working with him. She asked me if I needed time. I did. I figured out what I wanted to order: - Strawberry danish - Raspberry and custard danish - Chocolate croissant There were a few customers who dropped in after I had. The nice woman returned and asked if I was ready. I was. I scanned my Breadcrumbs QR code. I then let her know that I was ordering three items. In the past, at any COBS Bread, I'd get my danish pastries in bags. I never enjoyed them being stacked on top of one another. I'd have to peel off one from the other because the filling from the bottom one adhered to the one of top. This place didn't do it. She put all my items in a box. Nice! I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I thanked this woman, grabbed my box, and carefully carried it to my car. I then placed it in a reusable bag and drove home. These pastries were amazing. I had the strawberry danish first. It was so fresh. I loved the strawberries. It was so yummy. I need to get another one. My go-to danish is the raspberry and custard danish. I love the tartness of the raspberries mixed in with the most perfect custard, in a yummy danish. Excellent! I had to get a chocolate croissant. I normally do danish pastries only, but I have a weakness for this croissant. It was flaky with the best dark chocolate. It had a light dusting of powdered sugar and dark chocolate drizzle on top. I appreciated that it was slightly sweet. This bakery stands out being fully stocked with baked goods and bread at 4 pm on a Saturday. When I visit the COBS Bread in Aurora on a Saturday at 4 pm, it's slim pickings. I loved my experience here. I'd return for more pastries. I should also get some bread next time. This store also has butter tarts. I just want everything! (199)

I have seen an article about this place (introducing it as an award winning bakery) a few years…read moreago. It is a Hong Kong style bakery, offering a variety of buns (both savory and sweet) and tarts at affordable price. Stepping in, it was more like cafe offering variety of drinks than regular HK style bakery. Bright and clean. Looking closely at each product, the quality seemed to be better than other counterparts- each looked fluffier, less greasy, and a bit more sophisticated in presentation. I got - BLB (Bo Lo Bao): Crunchy cookie crust on soft bun. - Crispy cream: Crispy sweet topping on soft bao - Chestnut Bao - Sugar donut - Egg tart Buns are very pillowy. The taste was "milk forward", no detectable butter flavor, which makes their aftertaste light & healthy. I found that the texture is a bit drier than I preferred. We liked Chestnut Bao. Chestnut paste matched the milky sweet bun. Overall, affordable, a lot of options and comforting. Next time I want to try savory types of buns!!! Oh each buns are individually bagged and sealed. Which is great, but you want to open it before buns with sugar topping get soggy inside. ;)

Their egg tarts are excellent, along with their milk tea. However, I need to call out their frozen rice dishes. It's like a mini clay pot rice place, with chinese sausage and a salty egg. There are other variations as well. If you go to the food court in the mall, they have them already steamed hot and ready to eat! Pricing is reasonable. Each location I've been to has plenty of parking, very clean and comfortable decor along with friendly staff. I would highly recommend this local bakery in the Markham area.
