Instead of cremains at their Kent location where we started, I was told to go get them myself in Green, an hour and a half trip, or pay $100 to pick them up in Kent, and they had no intention of helping with any of that. Getting them in Green is a big problem because you have to make an appointment for only when it suits them, just between 9 and 3 which is bad enough for people who have a job but their availability to meet you is so limited it makes date and time choices way too restrictive.

Cemetery's in particular have always interested me simply because it's the only place(s) I feel like I'm amongst my own people and with my cultural background; respecting a deceased individuals body is of the upmost importance. As a former caregiver & Veterinary Assistant; I've been exposed to death in a way most people wouldn't be and therefore; funerals were once a daily activity. With this being said, Restland is one of the best kept grounds I have ever walked. The landscaping alone is sparse but what is growing are some of the most beautiful cedars I have ever seen. The grass is cut, the road is clear & clean, there are plenty of trash bins and water fountains for fresh flowers. And lots of benches to reflect and grieve. Surrounded by woods, a church and the ugly road; it is a very peaceful & comforting place. Although the land in the very back is (sadly) being developed, for now you can enjoy the breathtaking sunset and enjoy the scent of pine trees (" loaded with compounds that have a variety of positive effects on the human body"; including lessening depression). But besides this small fact, this is the first & only cemetery that pays homage to those who have been cremated. There is a tiny garden that invites visitors to scatter their loved ones ashes over a bed of ivy- I LOVE this idea! It is such a simple yet sweet gesture and I applaud whomever came up with the idea. There is also a large cannon and monument honoring our fallen men & women, a little pond stands behind it as well as lovely flowerbeds. This is also the first cemetery I have visited with a useful directory at the main entrance. Most cemetery's only offer a plot number and you're left wandering around (sometimes for hours) in search of a grave. There booklet clearly shows each section & lists which headstones are in each. Again, someone put a lot of thought and care into this place and I don't doubt that if you choose to rest here that you would find peace.

My dear Mother is NOT resting in peace, thanks to the current managers of Chestnut Hill.

I was given the opportunity to help with the service which was a big deal to me as I too am a funeral director. Terry, the owner, went above and beyond what I am used to. He seemed to be instantly a part of the family- even drove the flowers to our house. I would use this funeral home again (assuming I lived in Akron). Should mention cost- very comparable to what is expected of most funeral services- and up front with charges. I am very pleased with all their services and dedication to my family at our time of need.

He was a dark complected caucasian from working outside most of his life. Also, he always wore a pencil mustache his entire life. Schermesser was given a recent photograph and father's favorite suite. Private family viewing for a few hours one day and general viewing for a longer time the next were the arrangements. We were shocked to find father with a bright pink complexion(picture a lady's powder blush compact) of a new born babe and clean shaven for the 1st time in his adult life. As shocking as that was, on the day of general viewing, before transportation to the cemetery we had to pick several beetles off dad's body and were plagued with flies swarming around the casket for the entire viewing. When we complained we were told insects come in with the flowers and there is nothing that can be done about them. I'm getting old, but I have never seen Pepto Bismo Pink used for make-up, and bugs never joined in the ceremonies.
