I am in love! To start off the beer selection is AMAZING! They also have wine. We went in tonight and sat at the bar. We started with the cheese and meat plate as an app. So good. It came with blue cheese, camembert, 2 types of salami and pickled onions, grilled bread and cornichons. Wicked good. From that I got the seared scallops with peas and bacon risotto. Its been the BEST meal I have had in a long time. In fact I cant remember something more perfect! It was all seasoned perfectly. The scallops had the slightest lemon flavor which just made the flavor pop. My boyfriend got the burger and fries and he said it was fantastic. We were chatting with the couple next to us and they got the chicken dinner and she said she loved it! We are already talking about what we are going to try next time! Wait a second, this isn't a Chinese food restaurant, where the hell am I? (FYI for those of you who aren't in the know, this corner was previously occupied by two Chinese food establishments for as long as I can remember. The once infamous China Gold which was adorned by late night stumblers and preceded by the short lived residency of Thai Ho, which burnt down due to a grease fire). Anyway, back to Porter. This isn't the West Roxbury I remember as a kid and admittedly, nothing could be more pleasing. I am happy to welcome VARIETY to West Roxbury and with open arms, something not usually known for this town-dawg, Kango-wearing, Addias track jacket equipped, shell toe stomping, hard-nose Irish American, meat and potato type of neighborhood. Porter is a breath of fresh air in a once suffocated town, smothered by endless bottles of Bud light. Friends and I arrived to a dim lit, welcoming(yet small) environment that offered a cozy yet intimate setting. The three of us pulled up seat at the bar and luckily, our timing was perfect because not a minute after sitting, Porter began to fill up with patrons and a line began to extended out into the street. Next, we were greeted by one of the most informed bar tenders I've ever encountered, who offered excellent recommendations accompanied by an extensive knowledge of their product. This was important because Porter offers an wide variety of beers that will satisfy even the biggest of beer snobs. I can't say enough about the service, excellent, excellent, excellent! My friends and I weren't planning to eat but since we were all so pleased, we felt obligated to sample some of their fare. We went simple and ordered the following : -Meat and cheese plate with accompaniments $9 (Simple and put together perfectly. Fine cheeses and fresh Italian cold cuts) -Fried Moonbrine pickles, jalapeno ranch $5 (they were ok. my friends complained that they were soggy but the slice I ate was crisp and tasty, lightly fried with a flavorful dipping sauce). -French fries with smoked paprika aioli $4 (Perfectly salted and lightly fried in fresh oil, again with a tasty light feeling dipping sauce). I highly recommend Porter and will most definitely stop by again. Superior service, excellent drink options and reasonably priced, above average food. read more

My review is based solely on brunch. I went in for the first time this past weekend and ordered a couple of various options. First up we have the three egg omelet. This came out damn near perfect. I was very pleased with the fluffy omelet. The homefries needed a litttle more boiling but otherwise edible. My friend orderd the hash, which was made with chorizo and sweet potatoes. This was two thumbs down. There was so much potential with this being very good but it just wasnt there. The sweet potatoes were no where near cooked and I wish someone tasted it before sending it out. Next up, we had the french toast. This was made on brioche and was mouth watering. It was lightly dusted with powdered suagar and fresh blueberries. Very amazing. Our server was very sweet but my only complaint was that everytime i asked for a specific condiment, she had to go downstairs to get it. I know its a small place and they cant keep everything upstairs (assuming) but maybe during brunch hours they should. I will definitely come back to try the regular menu but not brunch. read more

My wife and I had a perfect night sitting at the bar at Porter Cafe. Tangy and light fish tacos to start, full of flavors. My fish and chips featured a gorgeous, thick, super fresh cut of cod, cooked not one second too long in the fryer, dusted with a light crispy coating (rice flour maybe?). Tasty fries and a small side salad on the plate. For $15 bucks a super value compared to heavy bland versions you'd get elsewhere. My vegetarian wife got the sautéed cauliflower and succotash dishes, both of which were devoured. Paul the bartender was efficient and helpful and made some excellent cocktails. Try the Monk's Revenge if you want a different take on a margarita. Can't wait to return. read more

We went on a Saturday afternoon about 3ish, ordered drinks and apps. Our appetizer was the brussel sprout dish, amazingly good. Upon the recommendation of Matthew our excellent bartender (Made an amazing Manhattan) I had the grilled cheese and pulled pork sandwich and my sweetie had the burger with an egg, bacon and no cheese. Our server said the burger here is the best as long as you don't fidget with it, so I ordered the burger as is and it was pretty amazing! I also ordered the steak frites, the burger and the steak were both prepared exactly to my liking - medium rare with a rosy pink center. The sides are great too and the service is stellar. This place is famous for their large beer selection, so be sure to try something new you can even sample a few before settling for one. Went to Porter Cafe on a whim after a post Ikea shopping trip and left very happy and well fed. We walked in and sat at the bar, the restaurant was about 3/4 filled at 5pm on a Sunday and had a lively vibe as well as very chill indie music going. We were immediately impressed with the beer list, I mean I haven't seen Sixpoint beer in Boston to date! We received very prompt service from the bartender and he made recommendations on food selections. We ended up trying a hodgepodge of different things to get a feel for the place. We had as "sharing" sides the Mussels, the Mac and Cheese and the Pierogies. For our entree we went with the Steak Frites and a side of chunky mashed potatoes. The food was cooked perfectly and was really really good, there wasn't a single thing we didn't thoroughly enjoy and everything was done with class. I honestly was super impressed with the food and how well everything was done - especially for being open 1 week. After dinner we hung out for a beer and took in some of the local flavor, it was about 8pm at this point and the place was hopping, all the bar seats were spoken for and all but 1 table had people eating at it. If you live in the neighborhood I highly recommend giving it a shot, I was very very happy - its just a shame its not located in Beacon Hill read more

Absolutely loved our dinner here. My husband and I went on Monday night and got a seat immediately. Waitress was friendly and helpful, checked in on us just the right amount. The selection of beers is quite plentiful. Various light, dark, and specialty beers with different alcohol percentages made the decision-making process time-consuming yet exciting. The bar staff is very knowable about all the craft beers and can direct you to the type you're in the mood for quickly. The burgers here are also great. I've had some other things on the menu that are slightly on the salty side, but the burger tends to be perfectly seasoned. I haven't tried they're brunch menu yet. read more

We were lucky when we visited friends in Boston and they chose this gem in West Roxbury! Matt, the bartender, was a real pro and handled our large and repeated drink orders and Sandy, our waitress, put up with our 'loud crowd' and was on her game. Great food and a nice atmoshpere here. This is a great place for a couple to have a casual dinner and hang out for a few drinks after. Beer and wine licensce only at the moment so if you are looking for hard liquor need to go elsewhere. However if you enjoy tasting beers from around the world this is a great spot. Owner seems to always be there and is very friendly and instantly makes the first timer feel like a regular. Only negative is that it is a small place so not ideal for bigger (more than 4) groups. read more

Went for Brunch, because it had been recommended by a friend of mine who works there and it was absolutely delicious. I got the chorizo hash and brioche french toast. The hash had caramelized sweet potatoes, pepper and baby spinach. Not something I would normally have ordered but I'm very glad I did. And the french toast was perfectly fluffy and delicious. Service was great as well. I've never taken left overs from going out to breakfast or brunch but I did here! I recommend anyone go! read more

I just love this place. Last Saturday, 3/24, was my third visit here, and I'm so happy that this place opened up down the street from us. The beer list is crazy, and while the menu is small, there's something for everyone. Everything I've ordered has always been delicious, I have yet to try something that I didn't like. Dermot, one of the owners, never seems to sit down and is always making sure that everyone's happy and having a good time. Each time we've been there, our waitresses have been so friendly that after a few beers, we try to buy them one too. (They don't accept, of course.) It's definitely tough to get a table on weekends, and they only take reservations for parties of 6 or more. Be prepared to wait a bit and just enjoy the extensive beer list and friendly people around you. Trust me, it's worth the wait! read more
