I took a brief trip to napper Tandy's on a Sunday night with a couple of friends. It was a slower night there, but it did take a few minutes to get my beer. However the bartender was quick once they had time to serve us. The location is a pretty typical pub with a spacious bar, and they have a good selection of beers on tap. They're pretty IPA heavy, so if that isn't your thing, another pub might suit you better. However, they do have all sorts of offerings so it was easy for me to find something I liked. Got cut off after 2 drinks, which is impressive considering I was fully upright, coherent, and simply existing with post-game enthusiasm. Bartender acted like I'd just tried to start a fight with the jukebox when in reality I was just... ordering another drink. If you're looking for a bar that panics at the first sign of fun and treats grown adults like liabilities instead of customers, this is your place. Great spot if you enjoy paying Boston prices to be supervised like a middle school dance. We went mid-day Saturday to play darts and enjoy a few beers. It was the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Not too busy, with a solid draft beer list. The bartender was attentive and pointed is toward a brand new keg of Lunch. The tip was greatly appreciated! Lots of space in both the bar room and game room. there was a lively group of friendly playing pool - which brought energy to the space. There was a good bar food menu. I've never left a review in my life but needed to for this place. Bartender is one of the worst people I've ever met. Always drunk out of his mind that leads him to being irrational and aggressive towards women only. He got mad at me one night over a disagreement that him, I, and my bf were having. It was my bf and I trying to tell him that he was accusing me of something I didn't do. He was noticeably more aggressive towards me and decided to start screaming at me and call me a "b*tch". Bad enough to the point where other customers had to step in and say something to him. Never thought I'd go back but unfortunately it was an establishment that all my friends would go to b/c its local. Went back and tried to clear the air and he immediately started being aggressive after me asking "can we talk about what happened". In fear of safety my friend and I walked away before it escalated. As we were getting our stuff to leave he comes over, throwing things around and proceeds to ask me to go into his office with him..alone. When we refuse and explain to him he is vividly drunk (he served my friend completely wrong) and that I do not feel comfortable with that. My friends and I needed to leave at that point, so we did but for anyone thinking about going to this bar, don't. If I can give this place a 0 stars I would, I came from Cali and wanted to get into something for the night and ended up at this place. We came on 10/25/2023 @ 9:12pm and bartender was extremely rude. The receipt doesn't show waiters name to mention him on this review. This was such a horrible experience and I would never come back. I don't recommend any travelers here just go to another spot. As soon as I walked in everyone there had long faces the vibe was so bad. No music no atmosphere just a sad lonely bar. No wonder the bartender looked like he was just having a bad day but I was understanding since I know he was the only one there. I ordered a beer (Corona), no smile no nothing. I was waiting to get a hold of him to get his attention to get salt, 10 mins later he brings it over then I order another beer. Then I asked for the bill this guy wouldn't even come over to check on how we were doing or anything. I saw him give others great customer service and even wiping this lady's table when I was waiting for him to bring over bill. Then he comes over with the receipt and my credit card and he had a bad attitude and I told him he was really rude. Then he started using profanity towards me a (woman). I would have liked to give this restaurant a better rating but I never got the chance to sample its food or service. I live in Roslindale and, when looking for options for lunch (there aren't that many in the Square), I went into Napper Tandy's to check out the menu. It seemed pretty good (somewhat similar to the Galway House in Jamaica Plain). But then I looked around and realized that there was absolutely NO regular table seating. Just stools at the bar and nine high-topped tables with tall stools around the perimeter. My wife finds it very difficult to get into those high stools and so won't use them. This means that we can't eat here and won't get take-out from a place that is so obviously unwelcoming to older and/or disabled persons. I know this is primarily a bar but, if they're going to offer table seating and a full menu, then they really need to offer seating that all diners can use. For us, we'll continue to patronize the Galway House - good food, friendly service, fair pricing...and plenty of regular seating. read more

Since reopening during the end of and post the pandemic, this Napper's has struggled to retain kitchen and bar staff. No consistency. Very telling. Additionally, the food is a mixed bag and recently the food offerings have been reduced drastically- no pizza, no burgers or wings and second rate alcohol offerings. The place often is unsanitary, with odorous stenches from the bathrooms and the pool area. Then I witnessed something very gross, one of the bartender's girlfriend felt comfortable to place her dirty sneakers on the bar. If the owner is unable to address these issues, sufficiently, he should sell and allow someone truly vested in making the space accommodating and a destination again. read more

Asked for a Guinness and was told curtly that he does not have anything available if there was a red cup on the tap. I said there is no red cup on the Guinness. He was super rude about it and said he could not serve Guinness with no sorry, I did not put a cup or something on the tap yet. 6 of us walked out... I live around the corner from this bar. When I moved in, the former tenant was just closing. I'd heard it had been terrible. The new owners made it NOT TERRIBLE! I got a really flavorful burger and fries ($10), and a very very very heavily poured glass of Woodford Reserve ($7). My wife got a tasty pizza ($13) and a pretty good gin & tonic ($5.25). They are still working some kinks out, but this place is all promise, and the staff is ludicrously nice. The owner, an Irish guy who owns some other bars, came by at the end and told us to feel free to offer any suggestions to improve the place. He also reported they'd be putting pool tables into the empty room next to the bar. The atmosphere is very traditional Irish-American bar. The decor has a lot of antique stuff and prints of old Boston stuff - I noticed an old Freedom Trail map and a newspaper announcing the death of JFK. Give this place a whirl. It'll be good for the neighborhood. I'm just ecstatic that there's a place in the square to get a beer and a burger. read more

Thank freakin' GOD! I've been waiting..a year...two years...seems like a lifetime for a bar like NT's to settle down in Rozzie. I mean, it was so bad at one point, I was going to quit my job and go to the bank for a loan to start my own bar. Pizza, apps and burgers. Yum!. With no kids. So they got it right by my terms. A bar with good reasonably priced food with no kids. Did I mention, no kids. YAY. Hoping it stays that way because they are putting pool tables in the adjoining room. So I'm thinking they are going to keep the vibe of a bar with good food. Hopefully this will deter any yuppie families that seem to be invading Rozzie from JP. We went on a Monday night. It was busy. There were two bartenders behind the bar. Emma was our main server/bartender. She was super nice and attentive. We got some beers. There were like 10 on tap I think...then bottles. The only thing I noticed was there were not a lot of "lawn mower" beers. No PBR, Gansets....whatever. Only high life...coors light and bud. Just thought it was interesting for kind of a blue collar area of Boston. Maybe they are trying to fancy up the neighborhood. The food was good. We got buffalo dip which was good. A few girls next to us got the nachos. HUGE. Like 4 people could probably do a number on them or a meal for two VERY hungry people. Then we got a pizza. It was big. We got the half Irish, half Italian. It was very good, ham, roasted red peppers. There were a couple of guys down the bar that got a pizza which looked like it has sausage on it and they kept saying "This pizza is f*&kin' awesome." Then the one guy says "This is nice bar. Tandy's Brah!!! So, yeah, I like this place. They've used the existing Robyn's layout, but upgraded it. The bar side is separated by a wall (instead of a half wall) and the "dinning room" side has been turned into pool tables!! POOL TABLES, Y'ALL!!!! I've yet to play pool there, but I'm excited they have it. I know that's kind of like Hansel's praise of Sting in Zoolander, "The music he's created over the years, I don't really listen to it, but the fact that he's making it, I respect that." But I'll stand beside my pool table excitement! Anyway, the food is solid. Pub food, but with lots of options. They have like 8-10 burger selections, which you can get beef, turkey, chicken or veggie. I also dig their curry fries. They have pizza, several apps, including a cheese-steak egg roll. Pub Fusion! Also, they have a good tap list, with good micro and macro brews. Decent prices, even though they come up to weird-ass airport bar price totals, like $4.67 for a pint of Long Trail or something. But yeah, I'm really glad this place is back and better. I do miss the townie BS that went on in Robyn's, but that isn't completely gone either in Napper Tandy's. Its 12:50 am, a sign on the door state it will be shut at 1 am, yet i am rudely being flagged away by a man i assume is a bartender with blonde hair as if they are closed... My husband and I couldn't be happier there is FINALLY a nice Irish Pub in Rozzie! They are still working out a few kinks (like the door is really uninviting, and you may wait a little bit for food or a beer until they figure out their busy times), but you should definitely go check it out. I'm not with one of the previous yelp reviews, I actually hope that this can be a bar were the "yuppies" from JP like me and the locals can all hang and have a good time together! The staff is SUPER nice, and the food is DELICIOUS!! Now we just need the friendly owner to get shuffle board for the other room and we will never leave :-). So come on out all you yuppies, locals, parents, grandparents, 20 & 30 something singles and enjoy a few drinks while we all get to know our neighbors! read more

This is a really nice pub. I've only been in Rozzie for a few days, and I've already gone here twice. Once was at night with some friends for drinks and appetizers, and again this afternoon for lunch. At night it was lively but not too crowded, and in the afternoon it was quiet but not deserted. Had the same waitress both times, and she was great. They have a good selection of beer on tap, or the ones I like at least (Harpoon, whale tail, blue moon and lots more) and the cranberry margarita from their specials was yummy. The food was good both times too, and the portions were generous, especially the nachos. The drinks seemed very inexpensive to me, but I'm used to downtown prices. The best thing about this place is the ambiance. It manages to be dark and cozy but still inviting and friendly. One of the cleanest bars I've ever seen. I was really pulling for this place to be good. Sadly, it is nothing beyond mediocre. I have been a handful of times, both weeknights and weekend evenings. The ambience is, well, a small local dive-bar without much to offer. There are a few flat screen TV's - they will accommodate your viewing requests. A back room offers pool tables. The music is uninspiring - an odd mix of top 40 blended with 80's power ballads and classic rock. I definitely can't figure out what Pandora station this would be. The bar is standard - full bar, local brews on tap. The selection of beers on draft is satisfying - your standard Bud and Coors, along with some specials like local-only Sam brews and even a bit from some smaller breweries. On to the food - arguably the worst part about this establishment - which leaves much to be desired. I have ordered nachos, fried pickles and a bowl of chili from the app menu (separate occasions of course!) and none were impressive. The chili (with a side of pita chips included) was the best option from this bunch, it actually met the standard for an average bowl of chili, but nothing special. The main dishes are horrendous. I've gotten chicken and broccoli, some kind of pork dish, this mango chicken deal and others. None of them - not a one - was edible enough for me to finish eating. On all occasions, I came hungry, and on all occasions honestly lost my appetite because this "food" is so horrible! It became apparent to me on my most recent visit that they MUST source their dishes from some kind of Sysco-frozen-meal conglomerate. The appearance of the meals, the texture, consistency and flavor - all lend to a Lean Cuisine lunch on a plate. My last dish (a chicken, green pepper, mango medley over rice) presented itself to me a pile of soupy mush. The green peppers - soft and brown in appearance, the "mango" - altogether absent and the chicken - dry and clearly processed. Read: frozen and reheated. Not freshly prepared, not real, full of preservatives and salt and who knows what else! ICK! I can promise you I will never - and I mean never ever! - eat food here again. I don't care how hungry I am! The service does not make up for the lack of quality. The servers are blunt, don't crack a smile and are slllloooowwwww. Yes, I can see that they are working the entire bar (with a whole 8-9 people seated), however, their staffing is not my problem. I shouldn't have to wait until the end of my meal for a refill on my soda or water (after I request it, of course). Unacceptable. As an adventurous twenty-something living in Roslindale, and given the complete lack of bar scene in the Village (and beyond), I was rooting for Napper Tandy's, I really really was. It is clear that some of their workers - specifically Mark the Bartender - are not used to seeing people who look different. We were treated very poorly and rudely by this young man. What a relief! Napper Tandy's is an actual pleasant and serviceable (if too loud) pub in Roslindale Square with uninspired but perfectly tasty pub food (if you're really in it for the food head to Redd's down the street), some basic diversity in the beer offerings, and a super friendly staff, which is an ENORMOUS improvement over the black hole of awfulness that was Robyn's. It was announced yesterday (8/16/12) that the Boston Licensing Board voted to allow NT's to only install 2 coin-operated pool table in the side room (they requested 5), which is a bummer as the old Happy Hour had (I think) 6 and it was really amazing, but still, maybe some darts and even a pinball game and I can guarantee I'll be stopping by at least once per week and bringing friends! Not too bad a place but it really is going to need some work to compete with other pubs in the area. 1. The atmosphere is sterile. I had no desire to stay beyond on drink. 2. Service is slow since there was only one person waiting tables and bar tending. In fairness she was killing herself and doing so with a smile but she really needed some help. 3.
