Absolutely AMAZING experience!!!! I was left with few options when my a/c decided to stop working in the middle of the night in August, in Atlanta, and my previous a/c vendor was unavailable due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Being a pet mom I always worry about my little fur babies, and seeing them panting and looking for relief from the heat only added to my stress! I was first pleasantly surprised to see that this company opened as early as 7 AM! I then read the reviews, as most of us that use this site do! I said a prayer and went ahead and gave Porter HVAC a call, and boy was it a blessing that I did! Mr. Porter answered the early 7AM call and was extremely professional and polite. He told me that because of my location which is in metro Atlanta, he could stop by my house within a couple of hours. That immediately brought a smile to my face! Then something happened that I didn't think was possible anymore........he did exactly what he said that he would do, he was in my driveway within 2 hours! Not only did he show up like he said that he would, he was wearing a face mask for safety during this pandemic. Within less than two minutes of me showing him my set up, he was able to diagnose the issue. He was very courteous and even broke the news to me slowly that my unit would need to be replaced sooner than later..... *inserts crying face.* To be fair, the unit was almost 30 years old! I was really put at ease when I saw that Mr. Porter wasn't pushy about trying to make me buy an a/c unit and in fact, he gave me an option that would cool me down for the time being. My pups and I were once again in the a/c and there was no question in my mind as to whether or not I would let Mr. Porter come back out to replace the unit. When Mr. Porter came back out to replace the unit, he once again showed up when he said that he would. Mr. Porter also provided updates during the repair, he stayed within the timeframe that he gave me when we scheduled the repair, the removal and installation of the inside and outside units was great, and he cleaned up after the work was completed. Keith is the bomb. I called him to get a second opinion after my the contractors my warranty set me up with we're trying to charge me upwards of a thousand dollars for a bunch of uncovered modifications for an evaporator coil replacement. I had Keith come in for a free quote and he was extremely helpful. He took the time to explain things to me even when I didn't get it and had to ask several times. He was super patient and super thorough. He helped me weigh all my options and I felt that he was totally forthcoming and to the point with me. No bs. It was refreshing! He ultimately suggested I don't replace the coil yet because it would cause issues with the rest of the unit in the long run. He suggested I just charge it up with the refrigerant and a leak seal. He never tried to push me one way or the other. He came the next day to refill the refrigerant, stayed for a while to make sure it was working. He explained what he did, and his invoice even had pictures which I thought was extremely helpful. The other great thing about him was that he never made me feel uncomfortable or unsafe. As a woman, sometimes it can be a little nerve wracking letting a stranger into your house and I've had other contractors ask uncomfortable questions, but Keith was personable and never overstepped his boundary. He was also the ONLY HVAC repair person that got back to me when I called and left voicemails for several other companies. I'm so glad he did because I've finally found a trustworthy HVAC guy. (Which was giving us the run around) once he found about the difficulties we had w/the home warranty company & how long we had been waiting he came out and diagnosed our unit. The work needed to be performed was done in a timely and efficient manner. This company is trustworthy with fair pricing and best of all it is locally owned and operated! After having many of the big hvac companies come and give me estimates after my AC stopped working, I had the pleasure of meeting Keith Porter. Of course the big hvac companies all went on about the age of my unit and only quoted me prices on a complete replacement of my system for thousands of dollars, l had a feeling that my issue was only my fan motor. Mr. Porter came by and I told him what I thought and he agreed that my AC motor was the only issue and he could replace it the next day. Home Warranty Company called out Portercool HVAC on 5-15-18 as upstairs AC unit was not cooling. Porter came out on 5-15-18, said condenser coil was dirty, and unit had High Head pressure and was low of Freon. Porter called me and said he sent in the estimate (which had a Zero dollar amount) to the warranty company. Never heard from Porter again, until I called the warranty company and they informed me Porter never contacted them or e-mailed them estimate, this was on 5-24-18. On 5-26-18 Porter finally called me and told me they got approval to proceed with the repair. Mr., Porter stated that the unit would need at least 7 lbs. of Freon at $120.00 per LB and the condenser coil cleaned, my portion would be a minimum of 510.00 paid in advance, and if the unit needed more Freon he would bill me for the addition amount. I told Mr. Porter to not proceed with the repair, I called several other HVAC companies on 5-26-18, and all quoted much less than the 120 per lb. of Freon. Had one come out to clean the condenser and charge the unit it only took 2 lbs. of Freon, total cost was 210.00. I am aware that a business can charge whatever amount they would like, but three times more than others just shows that as a consumer, you must question and get others to give an estimate. read more

Tonight I had a outstanding experience that I feel I need to share! When I arrived home this afternoon around 4pm I found that our heat went out. Being that it's November in Georgia, that's not a good sign! Thankfully I found Porter Cool HVAC....he drove over at 5:30p, in the rain and was a true pleasure. Two of my systems needed freon and a repair and he fixed those at a wonderful rate. He also stated he found another issue that I was not aware of and also offered to repair once he gets the estimate for me. My second floor air conditioner was freezing up and had become useless, and the first floor unit was running all the time barely able to keep up. Before I talked with Keith Porter at Porter Cool HVAC, I already had a diagnosis of very low refrigerant gas in the upstairs unit and low refrigerant in the other. I had proposals to spend about $400 to add R-22 refrigerant to my 19 year old equipment and hope it didn't leak away or put in two new units for $5,500. Recommendations were to replace the equipment. Keith strongly advised by phone against replacing the equipment at this time. He arrived today to inspect the equipment which other than being low on refrigerant he said was in good condition. He added about three or four pounds of R-22 and checked the overall systems. The total cost for labor and supplies came to $125. Things are now working better than they have been for some time, and I expect they will continue to do so for quite a while. If perchance I end up low on refrigerant again soon, I will at least be assured that the cost for new equipment is justified and didn't have to pay a lot to figure that out. I really don't think that will be the case however. Keith was very knowledgeable, capable, and personable. I'm glad I found him. read more

My air conditioning went out in the middle of a HOTlanta summer and I was in desperate need of immediate assistance! Unable to reach my normal AC guy, I resorted to yelp for a recommendation. I stumbled across this company and to my delight they were a pleasure to work with! Keith Porter, the owner, answered the phone when I called. After explaining the urgency of my situation, he arranged to perform a free estimate that evening. He explained the problems to me along with all my options to get my AC blowing again. Since my system was already quite old, I decided to replace rather than repair my system to aovid the likelihood of future problems. He provided me with a price, which I then compared to several other companies for the brand and size of the system I wanted. Keith's price ranged from $400-$1500 less than the major companies I contacted. I also checked the secretary of state's website and confirmed that Keith is a licensed HVAC technician as using unlicensed workers can void your warranty and insurance. Keith managed to fit me into his schedule and install my new system the next day. There was a noise coming from the house the day after installation that Keith checked out for us and though it was not related to the new AC unit, Keith addressed the issue free of charge. Keith was prompt, professional, and fair. I am very pleased with my experience and will certainly be choosing his small business over the big AC companies for any future AC work I need done.
