Went in for lunch; got a little lost trying to make it in, but once we found it we were pleasantly surprised at how nice the view is! Our reservation was for 11:30 and there was still plenty of seating, but by the time we left an hour later it was pretty full... Outdoor experience is lovelyyyy. This place needs to decide whether it wants to be a mediocre after work spot, a mediocre sports bar or a mediocre restaurant. It fails at being mediocre at all three and slides into the crappy category. The service is abominable and indicates an utter lack of training. Our gruff server never knew who ordered what (isn't there a numbering system for that?) and whisked away appetizers we were still working on when the kitchen sent out our mains about 5 minutes after the apps. At this price point, service that would disappoint at Applebee's is unacceptable. Buh-bye. I look forward to whatever replaces it next year. read more

I visited Porter yesterday with my team and ordered POKE BOWL ( I am a vegetarian). I could not eat anything as rice is not cooked and other vegetables are very thin, you can see other side. Dish quantity is like a side/starter quantity. Nobody care to ask me why I am not eating it, just took it away as it is. If you are a vegetarian, please do not go. Ive been coming to this place after work since it opened. It took a bit for the place to find its groove early on, but after the first year, this place was an A+. Great food, great service, and great atmosphere. A tad pricey but not crazy for the loop. And if its that good, who cares then. Always one of my first places to recommend when someone asked me for a spot to go after work. Then came the last 6-9 months. The atmosphere is still nice(although i feel like less people come these days). The service still nice(though it definitely has taken a hit). But the most egregious thing has been the food. How do you regularly screw up something as simple as fries? Over the last year, the quality of food has gotten to the point i just cant do it anymore. It downright fails. Yes it still might "wow" the Porter novice who hasnt tasted better, but as someone whose seen the highs, the lows are definitely upon us. Burnt fries are the norm. Over salted food is the norm. Being told things like sauces and sides are no longer available, the norm. The chefs/kitchen should be ashamed. I feel sad for the poor manager who embarrassedly tried to apologize to us, but was something i could tell was a regular occurrence these days for her. Another apology, another "comp-ed meal" it felt like. The place is still worth a visit for a good drink and nice service, but i wont be spending (more like wasting) anymore money on food there. Why spend my money on something i have to HOPE is going to come out good these days. Is food service a lottery these days. or the gameshow press your luck. (I find myself screaming for "no whammies" when my food comes) I rarely ever complain and send back food. It has to be downright awful for me not to suck it up and eat it (and chalk it up to a bad night for the chef). I officially have to take this place off my recommend list for fear of embarrassing myself with others, and even had to join Yelp just to voice how disappointed i have become in a place which used to be so great. For a newly opened restaurant, they are doing everything right and more!The general manager even took the time to walk around to ask our opinions about the food and experience. Went for my first time last night and i have to say, everything was extremely well done. As someone who enjoys a good cocktail (and i'm pretty particular about my martinis), they absolutely nailed it. One of the best I've had in a very long time. As for food, I went with a larger group, so we tried a bunch of different appetizers and mains. All of them were incredibly delicious. To top it all off, it was a gorgeous night so we were able to sit out on the patio. Couldn't have asked for a better view. Stayed for hours watching the boats go by and drinking cocktails. But not today, we got After we got seated for about 20 minutes, we did not have a server getting our drink order or addressed our issues with the table or the experience. Had dinner here with two friends. We ate outside which was a mixed blessing. It was perfect weather and great fun watching the boats go by. But the L trains are very noisy and a big distraction. Appalling!! Having booked a table two months in advance of our holiday, and having received an email confirmation, we turned up to find the restaurant closed for a staff holiday. It was also a birthday celebration and we had looked forward to it all day. They had not bothered to contact us to let us know and we wasted $30 in cab fares. I have been three times now and ordered the same Caesar salad with a piece of salmon. The first time there was a 4oz portion of salmon, the second time a 2oz portion and the last time it was a mere dollop. While I know they are making adjustments and Porter is a great addition to our work neighborhood they need to serve reasonable portions of the protein. I noticed that the chicken portion on the salad was also slipping away. Hope to see improvement as this is a great spot for clients. read more

This is an excellent venue in the west loop with a nice view, great food, but growing pains of a new restaurant. I felt the menu was well put together however the service was either overly attentive or underinformed of the menu. Getting to the restaurant was not as obvious as I would have hoped however now that I know to access the elevator, that is not a problem. This establishment does not deserve a 1 star rating, as I would not recommend this place to anyone! Before we were seated, in a half full restaurant, the hostess said "I will need this table at 8:00pm...". She seated us at a table where all of the employee traffic frequented, passing by our heads with full trays of dirty dishes and bumping into our chairs. I was here for a dinner event with my colleagues and some management from our corporate office. For whatever reason, this restaurant was about 100 degrees ALLLLL night. My co workers and I complained multiple times stating it was way too hot in there. Mind you, I was wearing a tank top underneath my suit coat (which I took off after about 15 minutes of being in there). At first, they opened a side door to the patio and that helped but then it started raining so they shut the door. We continued to tell the waitress and the host to please turn the heat down or off since we were all sweating profusely!! They did not do anything and one of them claimed it was because we were near the kitchen. I'm sorry but figure it out -- if you're in the restaurant business and you're opening up an over priced spot known for taking business associates to at least figure out your climate controls. The food was pretty good but again, this place is better suited if you're going and you're able to expense the meals, etc. $24 for a fairly small salmon fillet (probably around 4 oz or less) is a bit much. Forgot to add that they brought 3 of the 7 entrees out and there was about a 15 minute lag in between the remainder of the food being brought it. This is horrible timing. We sat there while our salmon entrees were getting cold and waited on the other dishes to arrive. Please get your timing right!!!!! read more

We have eaten at this restaurant several times both for lunch and dinner. Overall, the food is very good although pricey. The menu is fairly limited - especially at dinner - so I would recommend checking it out before trying the restaurant. The only item we've tried that wasn't very good was the lobster roll - otherwise, we have enjoyed the food. The views on the deck and from inside of the restaurant are great. It is nice place to eat or drink and enjoy the riverside ambiance. Service is spotty, My most recent visit was on a Monday night. The restaurant was empty inside but outside most of the tables were occupied. It took almost 15 minutes for a waiter to approach our table and offer to get us drinks. It got a bit better after that but service overall was slow and we have experienced that on our other visits as well. I asked for another glass of wine after our appetizers and by the time I received it, I was almost done with dinner. Note that the restaurant closes early and is not open on the weekends. It is part of the 4 Corners group of restaurants so you can use your points earned at other venues here which is nice and helps compensate for the somewhat high prices. read more

I get that this place is new. Regardless they might've wanted to take some more time with planning and strategizing on giving the best service and being more consistent. After reaching out to the event's person about a party of 14 maybe 4 times last week and getting no response I called and spoke to a host (Think his name was William) He said that he would be more than willing to help accommodate us if they had the space but would check with his superior and call us back. About 5 hours later the Maitre'd (Seemed a bit lost/confused?!) calls to let us know that we wouldn't be able to be seated at the time we requested because it would be too busy. (Okay, Strike 2?!?) Talked with my party and was able to move the time up an Hour 30 min, called the next day and spoke with William again. He assured us that he would be in to accommodate us that afternoon and apologized for the previous confusion & frustration. Showed up that afternoon to be greeted by a CROWD at the host station. Maybe 7 people half servers and maybe the other half managers. It was kind of empty in the restaurant but it felt like everyone was just hanging around by the front just for kicks. Super intimidating!! I gave my party's name and William showed us to our seat. Paris took our order at the big table and was pretty nice and attentive. We thought that the food was a bit overpriced but it was decent enough as the drink's were flowing! All in all it was Okay, maybe they're just working out the kinks but it was upsetting to see that on our way out it was still pretty empty and that was the original time we were scheduled to come. We all left work early and it seemed for no reason at that point (Strike 3) :( Hope they get it together because it was a nice looking place.
