He also installed a thermostat that he had on the truck as he said mine needed replacing. It works fine. Price was reasonable. 6 months later... I called again when cooling season started because my AC wouldn't start up. It was 10:25pm on a Sunday night. To my absolute delight, my call was answered by a real person (!) who was very helpful & arranged for the same tech to do the work. I purchased new furnace and AC from Porterhouse. The furnace ignitor went out a year later and a service call was requested. The technician was courteous and professional while explaining the issue. When he stepped out to call the owner to make sure the furnace was still under warranty, he returned to say the owner wished to charge me $85 to come out and another $85 to clean the furnace. When I protested over the phone with the owner he became unprofessional, argumentative, rude, and unnecessarily emotional. He seemed more interested in arguing with me than coming to a resolution. In the end, he instructed to technician to leave my home without honoring the warranty and completing the repair. Horrible business and a complete lack of professionalism. I cannot speak highly enough of Porterhouse and my tech, Jamarr, for the repair job on my ac/furnace. Due to some technical abnormalities, it took several visits to sort out the issue and find the right resolution for my control board. I was honestly worried that I might hear they couldn't figure it out and the only solution was to get a completely new unit. However, with several trips for parts and some perseverance, Jamarr stayed on top of everything and was ultimately able to resolve the issue. Jamarr is a great tech and I would like to commend him for his efforts, as well as the others at Porterhouse who were quick to relieve my fears. So this is chicago right? Winters no joke blah blah blah. Well... it's late October and my hvac is acting like it forgot how to hvac. I call and this team gets me an appointment the very next day. Mike shows up and he's awesome. Mask on, little booties over the shoes, looks at the problem and fixes it. Quick, easy, and now my house works again. Mike even gave me a bunch of advice how to make sure stuff keeps workin, works better and ran me through how to use a new thermostat. Long story short, mike rules. My air conditioner was not cooling the house. I had Porterhouse come out. Leroy came. He looked at it. Told me the unit was old, there was a leak, the compressor was gone, and I need a new unit. The cost was 3600 dollars for a 2.5 ton. He said he'd do it for 3200. This was a lot to say the least. I began to do research and decided to call another company. They came out today. They told me there is nothing wrong with the compressor! They put stop leak in the system. They said the coolant was low. He recharged the ac. It's working fine now. The cost? 250 dollars! Either they were incompetent or dishonest. Either way I won't be calling them again. read more

This company is not efficient. I purchased an central air unit from the Company. I purchased the ac unit. July 17 2020. I had to pay half which was 1,300. The company came to install on July 18, 2020. I gave Shawn Porter another 1,300. Two hours. I called and talked to the secretary. Told her my house was not getting cold. She stated ok. I am so sorry. Everyone is gone for today. I will let the manger know. They will be at your house the first thing in the morning to make sure it is cold , cold. They returned and put Freon in a new unit. Hmm! I called about 4 hours later stating once again my house was not getting cold. I am very unhappy, I said, the company can come pick this up. Another secretary ,said Shawn will call you on Monday. I never received a call. I called Monday evening and another secretary which was the one, I spoke to before said , she never heard of the company uninstalling a unit. I have three working business days. I have been calling since day 1. That this unit was not working. She stated, I will call you back. She called back and we arranged a dated for pick up. I have called numerous time and my guy as well to ask for my refund. I will be charge a restocking fee of 300.00. Unbelievable. Restocking fee is not in their contract. Today is August 12, 2020. I have not yet to receive my 2600 dollars back. The owner Shawn never call to see what the problem was and still have my money and I have nothing. Did even return my old unit which was within three working business days. It was taken to dump yard very fast. Do not go with this company at all. They have robbed me. They are a no star. read more

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY, My heater was broken and the technician Leroy was sent to my house and he was guided to the basement, he was left alone in the basement, once he left it crossed my mind to check my jewelry box and sure enough my ring was missing!!! Leroy stole my engagement ring of my vanity drawer, (I had just cleaned it a day before) he went through my jewelery box and ALL my drawers in the basement leaving his greased finger prints all over my stuff, when I contacted the owner Mr.Porter he said he asked the 'tech Leroy' and the 'tech' said he didn't take a ring. I Filed a police report and its now under investigation. I guess it's my fault for not staying with the tech while he's working. I never had to baby sit any other tech that did work on the house, nothing was ever missing before. This is a devastating time for my family and I. PLEASE BE CAREFUL if you hire this company, dishonest human beings, what else are these techs capable of? Horrible experience. read more

I agreed to pay $85.00 for the service call that I was told it will be deducted from the final cost of the work, and Mr. Porter came to give me the price quote. I had several repairs done around the house that I bought couple months ago, and the flexible duct replacement was the last one I needed to be done. The quote he gave me was outrages, but I already paid $85.00 which he told me it will be included in the final price. He told me that normally he would have charge $300.00 for this type of work, but because the entry to the attic was difficult, and it is hot in the attic, and his employee will hate this work, he told me that he will charge me $575.00. I really wanted this to be done, and I already paid $85.00, so I agreed for him to do the work. I am convinced that Mr. Porter terribly overcharged me for the flexible duct installation that took about on hour of work and the material that cost about $60.00. I also think that he simply added $85.00 to the price he wanted to charged, so it was not really deducted from the final price. I also asked him if he would honor the coupon of $35.00 that I have printed from Angie's list, but unfortunately, asked him before he gave me the final quote, so he simply added the $35.00 to the final price. The cost of this job should have been $300.00 as he told me he would have charged if there was easy entry to the attic. He added $85.00 on the top of $300.00(which should have been deducted from $300.00), plus $35.00 the amount of the coupon (that should have been deducted from $300.00), plus $155. 300 - normal price 85 - service call 35 - coupon from Angie's list 155 - additional charge for difficult entry? 575.00 - total price I don't think this was fair price, for again, an hour of work and $60 worth of material. The employee didn't seem to mind the entry. He told me he has seeing much worst. He didn't have any problem getting in and out of the attic. I hired Mr. Porter because I found his company listed on Angie's List and I trusted that I will be treated fairly, but this is not even close to fair, but very dishonest. He overcharged $275.00 for the work that should have cost $300.00 - $85 service call that I was told it will be deducted from the total cost, not added up to $575.00 that I was charged for the work. After reading Mr. Porter's respond to my review, I've got worried and I went to the attic to see if there was animal waste there. I was unable to see any. I also called him (per his suggestion) to discuss partial refund, however after brief conversation, he told me he will call me back, but I haven't hear from him again. read more

I called because we were in the middle of a particular nasty hot and humid weather in Chicagoland last week and my AC's condenser unit was not functioning at all. After almost (3) days, I had enough and searched Google for a company that would make same day appointments. I normally don't choose the first company I find but I did do a bit of research and found out they were BBB approved and endorsed by Angie's List, etc. I was surprised when Shawn answered the phone right away and made a same day appointment. He arrived on-time and was very respectful with going in and out of my home, never entering without knocking first no matter how many times they had to go back and forth. He explained the issues that could be affecting the cooling, as well as checking the thermostat and breakers for my home. He checked my furnace and gave me very knowledgeable information for possible causes and solutions to my cooling problem. He installed a new standard thermostat with a digital reading, which although standard was MUCH more advanced than the outdated one I currently had. Shawn was great at explaining the type of repairs required for the temporary fix of my condenser unit, implications for future and the costs associated with them as well as the variety of payment options available. His prices were extremely reasonable and I felt no pressure to purchase a new unit. I didn't feel like I was being taken advantage of which can sometimes happen. I called because my air conditioner was not blowing cool air and I saw the coupon deal for a 20 point inspection and tune up, so I decided to take a chance. I am so glad I contacted them, they were prompt, courteous, and professional. The technician that sent out was Leroy and he truly is the definition of what an technician should be. I never once felt as though I was being pressured, he was honest and straightforward from the time he walked into my home. He explained what he was doing thoroughly and I truly appreciated that, I wish all of my home repairs were this pleasant. Shawn is great in returning calls and showing up. I have used shawn about 5 times. The last 2 times are the reason I wont be using Shawn again. I own a small roofing business so I know all about being fair and not taking advantage of people. Thats why my business is successful, my name is all I have and will go out of my way to stand by it. Shawn went to a rental property that I have and looked at the furnace. He told me that I needed a new furnace. He gave me a very high price. I contacted a friend to get a second opinion. The Furnace needed $120 part. I fixed it myself in 15 minutes. It's been fine ever since. A couple months ago, I had Shawn come to the rental house to look at the air conditioning. He came out with his son and another person. He said that outside unit needed a fan blower motor. Shawn had one in the truck. A blower motor has two wires and about 8 nuts and bolts to remove and replace. I need to mention this was a Sunday when Sean came out and he came out very promptly. An hour later I asked him what I owed him. He told me $490. I cannot believe how high the price was. The same blower motor was under $100 online. While he was installing the blower motor we were talking about being fair with customers and how that makes for a successful business. And the ironic part about it was minutes later I was taken to the cleaners. Well I do understand he came out on the Sunday $500 absolutely insane. I called him the next day to ask him if I was missing something in the price. Shawn told me that the blower motor is an expensive part and the labor cost that much. I watched him install the entire motor, and it should not have taken more than 20 minutes. Unfortunately this is the last business Shawn will get from me. One thing about small contracting businesses is you cannot get the prices that the big companies get. You need to be competitive or you will not succeed. To say the least I was disappointed. For this reason I would not recommend Shawn again and will not be using Shawn for future work. read more
